My daughter's new used-violin is ready to be played thanks to this business and its quick service. Our violin came with out of tune old strings & some digs. The guy(I think he is the owner) didn't charge us much for his fee while he gave me some idea of potential work needs to be done near future. AZG is a Luthier in the south of Brooklyn. I had let my cello fall into less than perfect condition after I went to college and needed a fix up. Luckily after looking around Westchester, Western CT and Brooklyn, the areas I frequent most, I chose to go with AZG because of his Brooklyn delivery option. I didn't end up using it but I'm glad it brought me to this business. Alexander, the owner, cares more about his craft than milking you for a dollar, and that's rare in these days. He was more focused on getting my bow and cello into glorious condition than the up charge, and didn't even charge me for some of the refinement work he did that brought the results to the next level. If you are not an expert in your instrument, I would highly recommend him (experts should go to him too!). He thoroughly explains all options and variations that can be customized on your instrument and you find yourself making truly informed decisions. I had played my cello for a decade one way, and instead of reproducing the exact same action on the bridge, I learned and worked with Alexander to truly customize my cello to my style and needs. Can't say enough good things. Took a disused cello I'd found on a stoop in to have it looked at and see if it was worth salvaging. An hour later I walked out with the bridge re-seated, the strings tuned, the scrapes in the body touched up and a working knowledge of how to care for and keep the instrument. Mr. Guth could have up-sold me strings, a new bridge, pegs - whatever he wanted - because I had no idea what I was doing with a cello. Instead, he patiently walked me through everything he did and then only asked to be paid for 45 mins rather than an hour. I will definitely be back. I have had a Yelp account for years now but I have never felt the absolute NEED to provide a review for a business. Mr. Guth is an inspirational craftsman. I took an old guitar in to get the strings replaced and he not only walked me through every step of the way but explained the importance of each step. It was definitely an interesting lesson but I enjoyed hearing him talk with passion about music and instruments more than anything. He is a skilled luthier and possibly the only one of his caliber in Brooklyn. The work done on the guitar was superb. The customer service he provides is excellent! The whole experience was very personal and inspired me to pick up my guitar again. I really wish I could express how impressed and surprised I was to have stumbled, by chance, across such an inspirational man with his master skills and breadth of musical knowledge. He showed us every part of it and took time to explain everything, and gave us good advice about how to take care of it. When I took my old violin to another luthier, I felt he was trying to up-sell a bunch of things that I wasn't sure I needed at the point. That didn't happen at all when I came to see Mr. Guth. Mr. Guth took time to explain all details to me. I've learned quite a bit, and I liked that. Only did what I asked him to do, plus a couple of other things at no extra charge.
