First time plano player, this teacher really knew how to sit down with a beginner and make them…read morefeel comfortable when learning a new instrument, in this case a piano. He has fairly nice studio to practice the guitar, violin and the piano. His rates vary between the instrument you would like to practice. But I think its very reasonable. If your on staten island or brooklyn, I would highly advise this teacher.

Edmund is a fantastic teacher!! I would recommend him to anyone who is interested in taking piano…read more(or voice/guitar/violin) lessons. I started taking piano lessons with him shortly after I turned six years old (back in 2002) and continued until I was 18 (and left for college), so I'd like to think that I can speak honestly about how amazing Edmund is as a music teacher. He was extremely patient with and encouraging to me during lessons, even when I was facing a challenging piece that I wasn't sure I'd be able to play (and I was eventually able to play this under his instruction and many, many hours of practice). I had not always loved playing the piano (parents were very adamant that I learn--it was not something I had initially wanted to do), but I grew to love it over the years of lessons I had here. Looking back, I want to thank Edmund for being so, so, so patient with me. There were so many reasons for why he could have gotten frustrated with me during lessons (e.g., occasionally came in without practicing enough, really did not enjoy playing Mozart pieces when I was younger, etc.), but he was ALWAYS calm and understanding. The best part about having Edmund as your music teacher is that he works with you. As I said before, I hated playing Mozart when I was younger for some reason or another. Many other piano teachers would force you to do that anyway because Mozart's pieces are so iconic, but Edmund gave me different options and allowed me to play other composers' works, which made me so much happier and excited to play the piano. He always keeps in mind what the student wants and needs, and this is something that is so important when choosing a music instructor. I have seen Edmund work with all types of students throughout the years (different instruments, all sorts of ages, etc.), and he works well with everyone. He works with his students at each student's pace but also pushes them just enough so that they grow without feeling overwhelmed. SUMMARY - I highly recommend Music and Method. Edmund is an amazing and patient professional music instructor who works well with his students. He played such a huge role in my life while growing up and helped me find my love for playing the piano. Thanks, Edmund!!!

Well I see that the good doctor is still peddling musical snake oil. I was a teacher of voice,…read morepiano, and music theory at this place for the better part of the Eighties, and the best way I can describe their approach to teaching is "assembly-line instruction:" get 'em in, get 'em done, get 'em out, and make sure you get their money. The claim that students can have all the time they want is a lie wrapped in the truth. They can spend all day working at their theory papers if they so choose, but on a busy day some of my voice and piano lessons got cut off after barely fifteen minutes with the student and nothing I said or did changed things one bit. The only reason I stayed as long as I did was that the job fit my schedule, and while the money wasn't great, it kept body and soul together. But in all the years I taught there I can count on fewer than ten fingers the number of students that actually learned to play their chosen instrument or made any significant progress cultivating their voices. Don't send your kid there unless all you're looking for is a babysitter.

I was a voice and piano teacher at Trogan's Music School for six years from 1984-1990. It seems…read morethat not much has changed in eighteen years. I was constantly at odds with Trogan because he would cut lessons short simply because he had too many students and too few teachers. He also flagrantly lied to people, signing their five-year-olds up for voice lessons that no self-respecting voice teacher would give (the voice really can't be cultivated until the child reaches adolescence; fifteen being the usual age). His other bad habit was recruiting teachers from the ranks of his students. On occasion this had good results if the student was particularly gifted and able to teach, but most of the time we had teachers who were only one step ahead of the students they were teaching! This guy is averse to putting anything on paper unless and until he can con then prospective student or parent into signing up, and then it is too late. I knew he was a crook twenty years ago, and from reading Leslie's review it seems I was right all along.
