    Italian sausage pizza

Perfect escape from traditional pub food we'd been eating on our trip to London. Traditional, fresh Italian food that we thoroughly enjoyed. We started with the burratta which was wonderfully paired with pesto, pumpkin, and pomegranate on top of a few other delightful accompaniments. Split the mushroom pasta and Italian sausage pizza as entree. Beautiful stop during our London stay!

Note: I am writing this as we eat our meals... The selection of dishes in the menu all sounded yummy to us... it was hard to decide, so we will just be back another night. We ordered the grilled squid with a delicious tomatoe sauce with basil. I wanted to drink the bowl with sauce, after we devoured the squid... The pork chop with sage and butter was amazing. A really nice char. Salmon risotto with prawns peas and mint was out of this world...so fresh and delicious. Side of arugula salad was a perfect accompaniment to the pork. We will be back.

Absolutely lovely Italian restaurant! Found this place through OpenTable and also saw the great rating here on Yelp, so decided to go for it and reserve for dinner. And it was a great decision. The restaurant is beautifully decorated in a modern way, and the lighting was romantically dim. The staff was friendly and attentive the entire night. We had the Courgette Soup and the Burratina to start with. Both were lovely. For the main course we had the Maltagliati and the Pan Fried Gnocchi. The sauce of the Maltagliati was a bit runny, but tasted great said my hubby, whereas I wished that I had more sauce for my gnocchi and pumpkin. We were too full to order any desserts, but the menu looked wonderful and each dish also suggested a wine pairing. Great modern Italian cuisine along with an eye for detail in presentation and service!

Italian restaurant Bernardi's impressed me with beautiful, tasty food and outstanding, friendly staff. Would I go again? Of course! When I arrived at Bernardi's in Marylebone, just off Edgware Road, on a Saturday evening, the place already was fairly busy. The very friendly guy at the door checked the bookings and went out of his way to find me a spot - although just for an hour. Still, after being sent away by another new, French restaurant that did not even check the bookings, I highly appreciated the effort. I like the style, Bernardi's is a beautiful, light, modern restaurant with a simple design that pleases the eye. After settling down at a nice table in the corner, I browsed through the wine list. I was looking for a white wine, and the waiter asked a few questions and then recommended the 2014 Verdeca, "Askos" Masseria Li Veli Apulia. Not a bad choice - it was probably a bit too fruity or sweet for my palate, but the slight minerality made it still enjoyable, just as the waiter had told me. Not long after my wine arrived, a basket of thin crunchy Italian flatbread with something like a tomato, parmesan and basil dip came along. I appreciate a good slice of soft bread, but those crispy bites were also a great way to start a meal and bridge the time until the first course of the evening was ready. I had ordered the burratina antipasti with heritage beetroot, almonds and basil. The dish looked stunning, bright colours - green, red, yellow - beautifully arranged around the white cheese with finely sliced almonds sprinkled across the plate. All components individually tasted nice and fresh, forming a delicious symphony of flavours when combined. The burratina was smooth and soft, the funny heritage beetroots added a refrehsing fruityness with the almonds throwing in some salty texture. I must admit, I wondered about those pieces in different colours on my plate - I soon found out that heritage beetroots come in various colours, a nice touch. My main that evening was tarragon gnocchi with rabbit ragu and pancetta. The plate was hot when it arrived and looked as beautiful as did my antipasti. Recently, I started to appreciate rabbit more and more, it is a light kind of meat with a great taste to it. The only detail marginally impeding the delight was a piece of bone hidden within the ragout - not sure whether that was intentional or not. I also was surprised to see that the gnocchi looked like they were pan-fried. However, I did enjoy the minor crunch effect it added together with the crumble. As with any Italian dish, or anything really, freshly grated parmesan made this course even more tasty than it would already had been without. So far, antipasti and main course were great successes with me. It was probably no easy task to top this with a dessert, and unfortunately, the milk chocolate mousse with hazelnut was somewhat disappointing. I had been hoping for a stronger chocolate flavour. Still, I did like how nice and nutty it was. After a little chat with a lovely Italian waitress, who happens to live in London for five years - just like me - I finished off my dinner with a bitter, Italian espresso. Not my favourite style of coffee, but I guess what people expect at an Italian restaurant. If you ask me, Bernardi's in Marylebone is a great restaurant delivering on flavour and service. Next time, I should also try one of their cocktails.

Stumbled into this restaurant when I was visiting London. Had a wonderful experience from the moment I entered the door! The service was amazing, the food was above and beyond highly recommend dropping by.

How did I walk past this place so many times? Happy hour lasts until 6:30. Sat at the bar and the bartender suggested their most full bodied red was one from Southern Italy. It had a luscious nose and a body to match. 2015 Susumaniello "Askos" from Puglia. Had the salami board- 4 meats for 10£, a good deal I feel. They offered bread and brought 4 good size chunks of fresh focaccia, with olive oil. Enjoyed a pasta with veal ragu, and finished with a chocolate torte. A perfect meal with a perfect wine. Very satisfied.

Flavors were not aligned with price. Food was good overall but overpriced. Good place to socialize but service was a bit slow.

Dinner was a lovely experience. The mushroom risotto is amazing. For dessert, try a scoop of the daily special ice cream.

Ate dinner here last night. The Risotto was so fishy I couldn't finish it. Too specialized without true Italian roots.

The bartender was absolutely charming and amazing, and he made a truly outstanding Ramos Gin Fizz (a cocktail from New Orleans that few people know how to make, and even fewer want to make). Not sure how that cocktail came up, but he seriously deserves a round of applause for making not one, but two. He truly revived my soul! I split the gazpacho and short rib pasta with my husband. The short rib pasta was magically both light and hearty; it was exactly what we needed after 18 hours of travel. We frequently travel, and I am highly skeptical of Italian food when outside of Italy. Bocconcino was an authentic experience that rivals many of our meals in Rome. Maybe it was jet lag, but I did almost lock myself into the water closet and luckily after a few minutes manage to unlock the stall door without calling for assurance. I suggest visiting with a friend for gossip and security! As far as ambiance, there was great people watching with the Saturday evening patrons; it was an experience in learning about London 'going out' fashion, and watching the very attractive staff interact with customers was a prime education in upper class customer service/flirting. My parting comment is that the bartender stole my heart and I hope to have another of his delicious beverages on a future trip!
