Dr. Drury has been in the ENT business for long enough that he has the ability to intuit what's going on with the patient. Our whole family has seen him. For my 13-year-old daughter, he was so great with her around her tonsilectomy that she made a special trip to give him a jar of homemade jam afterward. I have had so many ENT problems that I am on a first-name basis with his office staff. Otosclerosis, allergies, keloid bumps in the mouth, swollen salivary glands, sinus infections - including a nasty one that my (former!) primary care physician thought was lymphoma and scared the s*** out of me. Dr. Drury rapidly figured out what was going on, and I felt like a death sentence had been revoked. This was a case where antibiotics was the right thing to take, microbiome be damned. Dr. Drury uses old-school diagnostic style that relies on his experience and intuition. He was never corrupted by the mechanistic "decision tree" logic that was taught for awhile in medical schools a decade ago, leading to wrong conclusions. Thank goodness this medical school pedagogy has been discredited. Human beings are not computer circuits. Yes, one occasionally has to wait for a long time to see Dr. Drury, but the wait is worth it. Wait times have improved in recent months. And yes, it is difficult to get an appointment. Supply and demand. He's the best ENT in the Bay Area IMHO. read more

My direct contact with this ENT was pleasant and he is an affable fellow who seems competent. BUT, it took a month to get an appointment with him (I have a foreign object stuck in my throat) and I left the exam with a promise of an order for a CT scan. After calls to the scanning company and my insurance company, I find that neither had heard from Drury's office. This is despite assurances via the "Standford Health App" by two MAs (sic) that the orders had been sent. Both the Imaging and Insurance people attempted to call Drury's office, with me waiting on hold and both were NEVER able to get anyone to answer after several 20 minute plus waits on an endlessly ringing phone. My experience was the same, a total of 90 minutes (three calls) with no answer. I finally went in person to the Manager of the Stanford Emeryville operation and he (a nice guy) was able to force the CT scan order through. Now I have to wait another 4 weeks to see Drury and hear his opinion of the scan. Did I mention I have something stuck in my throat!!! Avoid this Stanford Clinic at all cost. read more

I brought my daughter in SEVEN MONTHS AGO for an ENT evaluation following a sleep study in which she was shown to have significant sleep apnea, and as of today, I still do not have Dr. Drury's post-visit recommendation, which I was told I would receive in a few days. What I *have* been told, by Dr. Drury himself, in a series of vm messages from 7 months of phone tag, is that the number I'm calling is one that is not frequently monitored, that he is busy at a family reunion, that he is busy at a funeral, and finally that he recommends an in-home sleep study, since the in-office study was normal. My daughter's in-office sleep study was *not* normal, or we would not have been referred to him in the first place. He can walk on water and intuit patient conditions and have the best bedside manner on earth, but none of this matters if this is how he chooses to do business. read more

Funny people are all torn up that I didn't have a perfect experience. Dr. D is a great MD and I have no complaints about him but I don't think its unfair to rate the entire experience and set peoples expectations. I have a primary physician who I have never waited more than 10 minutes. At Dr D's I waited as long as 20 minutes in the waiting room and then another 20 minutes in the procedure room. I think 40 minutes is undeniably inconsiderate of my time and taking off one star is reasonable. read more

Concur with others that the office staff is awful. My mother in law came in to get her test results, the results were not in even after repeated calls and assurances that they were, so wasted visit. They promised a follow up call, WHICH WAS FIVE MONTHS AGO. Repeated calls and messages on the portal have been ignored. Awful, awful service. We are firing dr. Dreary customer service. read more

One of the best doctors I've seen. Went to him with a very bad case of vertigo and while we both suspected it was the fertility drugs that caused it, it's so rare that he did a very thorough round of tests (after test, after test) to confirm. He didn't just blow me off and so "oh it's probably the fertility drugs," which is what my primary care doctor did. Great doctor. Listens and follows through. Yah, the wait is sometimes longer than normal but he's a popular doctor. read more

I couldn't have had a better tonsillectomy experience. I was very lucky at each of my appointments to be seen on time. Dr. Drury was very upbeat and down-to-earth, very easy guy to get along with and was very forthcoming about what to expect. One of the guys from the office (Benson?) was also amazing. He called me to schedule the surgery and gave me a breakdown of what to expect as far as what bills I would see after the procedure. I was surprised because it seems pretty unheard of, usually you just get stuck with a bill at the end without any understanding how much it will be. I felt very prepared. The procedure went flawlessly and the post-op appointment actually concluded before the time I was supposed to be there (I got there a bit early). Couldn't have been better. Luckily, I don't have to get another tonsillectomy but if I did, I would definitely go back to Dr. Drury. read more

Dr. Drury took the time to understand my problems and then explain it to me in terms that I could easily relate. I have always received great advise. I would highly recommend him. P.S. Ever think the office was always busy for a reason? Ever go to a quality restaurant at lunch and it's empty think about it. You get what you pay for and in some cases what you wait for. read more

Not only is Dr Drury a very knowledgeable ENT, he is the absolute nicest guy. VERY personable, compassionate and understanding. He is not an alarmist and gives you clear, concise opinions and diagnoses. I am lucky that I don't need him very often but, when I do, I always feel good and appreciated when I leave his office read more

Terrific doctor but the office staff I'd give only 1 star. Be prepared to wait a VERY long time with little to no communication from the staff behind the sliding glass window. read more

It's true that Dr. Drury *seems* kind and reassuring. But consider this. Not only did he utterly fail to diagnose my throat problem correctly (instead offering such gems as: it could be a thyroid problem... you see, your thyroid is right there [pointing]), after giving me an unhelpful drug and telling me to call back and report on its effects (which I did), he has yet to contact me. AT ALL. For 1 month. This despite repeated calls to the office, begging for information, asking repeatedly for the referral he said he'd write. Nothing. It's like trying to talk to a brick wall. In what universe is it acceptable for a doctor to wholly ignore a patient in need for 1 FULL MONTH? not even a call from a secretary? Not to mention the letter he said he'd write? The Summit ENT office is pretty incompetent too (lost my documents, entered my insurance information incorrectly, which ended up costing me major $$). I could never recommend Dr. Drury to any friend of mine, and unless you're looking for a doctor who seems to want to obstruct your health care at every turn, I wouldn't recommend him to you either. read more

The wait was horrible. I waited for an hour and when I finally got into the office, he had to leave for another appointment. The receptionist had asked me to reschedule. Methinks not. read more

I had appointment yesterday with Dr. Bernard for my riging ear. My appointment was 9.45am. I got there 9.40am. And saw him at 9.50 am. Got out the clinic by 10.08am . This is the shortest wait time ever to see doctor for me. He was very kind, friendly, knowledgeable, great listener. He explained me very well about my condition. He is one of the nicest doctors I have ever visited! Staff are very nice too. I hope he will be able to make the riging sounds in my ear go away. read more

Had to fire them! I am sure he is a proficient doctor, but the back/front office is deplorable. After 17 days of waiting for an authorization for a CAT scan, I was told it had not yet been requested due to the fact they needed more information from the Doctor. In today's world of insurance and professional service, a medical practice is a full package from front to back and this practice is very inefficient! read more

Best bedside manner of any doctor I've seen. He even went to the store to buy me a yogurt once when I showed up to his office feeling sick! Dr. Drury truly cares about his patients. Also, the surgery he performed on me was successful and there were no complications afterward. His office assistants are sweet too. read more

I really have no idea why anyone would give Dr. Drury fewer than five stars. I can't remember the last time a doctor sat down and truly listened to me before an exam. I had throat and sinus problems that wouldn't go away and were causing me serious concern. Dr. Drury gave me a thorough examination, explaining everything as he went., and identified the source of the problem. I am a nervous patient, and Dr. Drury was the most sympathetic, caring doctor I have seen in a long time. Not only was he extremely knowledgeable, but he took an extra look at my nose and throat with a scope on the spot because he knew that I was worried. Now THAT'S a bedside manner. I highly recommend Dr. Drury. Maybe the staff has changed since the earlier reviews, but everyone in the Oakland office was pleasant, friendly and efficient. I had to wait a few minutes past my appointment time, but I would rather have a doctor who is willing to spend adequate time with each patient than one who watches the clock. We are all busy, but a few extra minutes for a doctor of this caliber are well worth it. read more

I am DEAF in one ear and a musician - SO - when I have a problem in my good ear - you can bet I am really worried. Well, I woke up last Sunday in the middle of the night with a horrible earache and muffled hearing/ringing in my good ear after suffering through a nasty cold for 5 days prior. In a panic, I called every single ENT specialist in Oakland for a same day appointment and luckily I found Dr. Drury - he was able to squeeze me in to an afternoon visit that same day, I was SO happy. He took a decent amount of time to hear me out, he was empathetic, very knowledgeable and I just felt very well taken care of. Since then, I have also had to call the office to communicate and he has been great about relaying info to his nurse to get back to me. So, all in all, so far, I think he and his staff are a good selection!! read more

The office never calls back. After having a great experience with Dr. Lewis, I tried to schedule a surgery for my daughter. After more than 8 phone calls and 2 emails, I never got a response back. Not sure this practice is in the business of actually performing surgeries. read more

This was my first first with Dr Drury. Unfortunately, I had to wait nearly an hour. The office was extremely busy. However, the wait was compensated by the treatment I received from the Dr, which was excellent. I always anticipate delays, so I come prepared with reading materials and a laptop to pass the time productively. No reason to sit around stewing. read more

A doctor WITH a bedside manner. Dr. Drury really takes the time to understand, explain, offer options, and follow through. Mostly, I'm pleased that I'm breathing better, sleeping better etc. I've been to Dr. Drury's office in Oakland at least 5-6 times, and there usually is a wait, but never more than 15 minutes. read more

Dr. Drury is by far the best I found, and I visited ENTs at UCSF and UCDavis while planning my surgery. I drove 3 hours to have him fix my deviated septum. The procedure was complex and took 2 surgeries, so I was doubly glad I had shopped around. Dr. Drury's bedside manner is tops. He listens, explains options, and takes his time to make sure everyone is on the same page regarding treatment. He reviewed my CT scan with me and showed me exactly what to expect. The wait is sometimes 20 minutes, but each time I walked out with a clear plan, all my questions answered fully, and I knew exactly what to expect next time. If you want easy parking, you can always schedule in Orinda. read more

Dr. Drury and his staff are the excellent! They are very welcoming and make sure you are comfortable. More importantly Dr. Drury is very smart and clearly knows and keeps up with the most current medical technologies. He comes with a very calming and reassuring manner. He takes the time to listen carefully and then explain clearly but simply every step he's going to take. Dr. Drury is very friendly. I was very panicked after a whole night of an unstoppable nose bleed. I called many ENT offices. Only Dr. Drury's office sensed my urgency and panic. They quickly found time to get me in within an hour. No other ENT office could see me even as I described my emergency and need for an urgent intervention. Unbelievable these days to find a doctor able to still hold those old fashion values of care for the patient! My experience was fantastic. Dr. Drury quickly stopped my nose gushing out blood. I left knowing exactly what my problem was, knew how to take care of preventing bleeds like mine in the future, knew I could call him at any time if I had any problems, and was really reassured I didn't have something terribly wrong. I don't frequently go to doctors. I suppose this is due to my bad experiences with uncaring doctors and long waits. Not the case at Dr. Drury's office. I wish my regular doctor had one tenth the skill, knowledge, and 'bedside manner' as Dr. Drury. Thank you Dr. Drury! Michael read more

Dr. Drury is one of the best doctors I've even been too. He did my sleep apnea surgery and if I ever need anything else done, I'll want him to do it. Just a note about the staff, they are friendly and doing the best they can. I have found no reason to think that my wait times would be different if they did things differently, and once I waited 45 minutes only to be told I wouldn't be able to see Dr. Drury at all that day as one of his surgeries had unexpected complications. I think people underestimate how difficult it is to do scheduling for a busy doctor. IME, the front desk and Drury's are doing well making a difficult schedule. Drury's schedule is difficult because 1) he's really good, 2) he takes the necessary time with each patient and 3) he's a working surgeon. So maybe lighten up on the staff, but do bring something to occupy yourself just in case. read more

The visit was fine... Billing has been a nightmare. They lied about what it would cost upfront. When I spoke with billing, I was told, "I am sorry they said that, but there is nothing I can do about it" read more

I made an appointment yesterday (monday )after 10 days with a horrible sore throat and sinus trouble. The receptionist told me they were switching to a new scheduling system and although I am a returning patient, she needed to get all my information again. I had to give her my information twice, for whatever reason. She kept clicking me on and off hold and there was lots of static on her phone. I was thrilled when she said she had and appointment for Tuesday, August 30 ( the next day) at 4:15, because I know Dr. Drury is very booked. I wrote that date and time on the pad of paper by my phone. When I showed up today they told me that my appointment had been yesterday, Monday the 29th. Which I never would have made because my kids have music lessons at that time. They didn't call to say that I missed an appointment, which would have savd me the childcare, trip over there and the parking. I understand that mistakes happen, but it is how employess handle them that is important to a business. The receptionist showed no concern whatsoever, told me they are completely booked today, but that they had an appointment in 2 weeks. I walked out. I will say that Dr. Drury was very helpful the last time I saw him, but I need the time spent on medical care to be more than the time dealing with the b.s. of the office staff. read more

Dr. Drury pretty much walks on water, in my opinion. If a few of you have to wait at times, it's because when necessary he'll fit in patients with a potentially life-threatening situation...and it could be you next time, so be careful what you complain about. He's smart, funny, kind, and unbelievably thorough. Yesterday he fit me into his busy schedule on short notice, and he took the time to carefully diagnose a rare and dangerous condition that I had, one that had been missed by the ER staff of a large East Bay hospital. It could have been fatal if not treated properly. So I, for one, am happy to trade that kind of responsiveness for a short waiting room stay. read more

My father, 92, who has Alzheimer's had a fall with a nose fracture. ER recommended a follow-up with an ENT. Dr Drury and his staff understood the concern, carved up time between appointments to see him the next day in contrast to all other specialists we'd called. Deeply impressed by his competency and caring manner - detailed check-up, reports examined, notes dictated so he cld perform the exam uninterrupted. He explained his steps to my parents, conversed with my Dad. Dad's PCP, in contrast, treats him like a vegetable. Rare to find a doc like Dr Drury. read more

Dr. Drury is a nice guy and said they would get to my thyroid scan quickly. But the office staff is seriously rude and would not listen to me. They told me I needed a pre-authorization. I was quite sure I did not (called my ins. today, I don't). I may have thyroid cancer and his staff reassured me they would get my referral within two weeks to a month!! Can you believe that!! I have never in my life been so upset. I am pretty tough but I went to my car in tears after their treatment. I am currently trying to get this referral from them with no luck. If I don't get it today I am finding a practice that gives a crap if I might have cancer or not !!!! read more

I stupidly put off seeing a specialist for my allergies for four years. Just had my first visit and the entire experience (except for a short wait compared to other medical practices), was an A+! The staff was friendly and welcoming and Dr. Drury has a great bedside manner - which is saying a lot these days. Very competent and made me feel at ease and in good hands. I will be continuing my care for allergy treatments with him. Highly recommend Dr Drury if you're suffering from ear, nose or throats problems. read more

I have never written a review of a doctor before, but after many years of taking my kids to see Dr Drury and our whole family talking frequently about how fantastic he is, I wanted to share. He combines medical expertise (I've been told by numerous other doctors that he's the best ENT in the area) with a genuinely kind, patient and caring personality. He always has time for all our questions and is so tremendously patient and sweet with my kids it's amazing. He makes them feel at ease no matter what is going on and he's playful and funny.... my kids really like him. He has performed surgeries on both of my kids and I felt that they were in the best possible hands. Our wait times have varied from what others have mentioned -- 20-40 minutes -- to almost no wait. It just depends on what's going on with patients that day I guess. When you see Dr Drury and experience how much time and careful attention he gives his patients, you'll understand that sometimes he can't help but run late. read more

I have been seing Drury for at least 10 yrs. for acute sinus pain. Since last April it became debilitating and last month Drury gave me still another round of antibiotics (this one, 21 days' worth). About 10 days ago I reported the sinus trouble to my accupuncturist (Don Gates, Oakland) who said maybe it was an allergy, dairy and wheat being the usual suspects. I took an allergy tablet and about 75% of the pain was gone. I gave up dairy and feel better, thanks to Don Gates, not so much to Dr. Drury. read more

I believe you have his name backwards as opposed to the other physicians listed. His name is Bernard Drury, not Drury Bernard.

Dr Drury is great. Concerned & listened to my reason for being there. Explained best course of action & why. Great 'bedside manner' Don't know what folks are complaining about re: the wait. I was in exam room w/i 10 minutes of appt time & saw him 5 minutes later. Front office staff is great. Very pleasant, efficient & 'hoped I would feel better soon.' What more could you ask for? Do get there early to fill out all the paperwork. read more

I have to agree with RB. The office staff definitely seems to strive to be unhelpful. Apparently, they don't have anyone employed whose job it is to answer the phone, so it is very difficult to get through when calling to schedule or cancel an appointment. One of them literally treats you like she wants to make sure you know that it is a huge imposition for her to have to interrupt her morning to speak with you, and this is after you've called 3 or 4 times already and been told to leave a voice mail message. Unfortunately, there are not many choices in the area for ENT doctors. But I may try to find one! read more

Dr. Drury is fantastically and almost a little disturbingly gleeful and giggly, but it is truly admirable how reassuring he is, his manner of complimenting "good patient" behavior, and his apparent competence. The two star deduction is unfortunately the result of the long wait. I selected Dr. Drury because of the Yelps and so was prepared to wait 20 minutes here, 20 minutes there, but when I'd been asked to arrive a half an hour before my appointment (which I did) for paperwork and then was not seen for another hour and a half.... Well, I'd lost my patience by then. Quite frankly, I don't understand why staff can't alert patients to the expected delay or schedule patients further apart. It was too early in the day - in my opinion - to already be backed up that much. Or the office could offer free parking, refreshments, WiFi, a tour bus to take you around Lake Merritt to catch you up on local history, SOMETHING since they must know what to expect day to day. The reviewer who compared the wait to that at a fine restaurant ... [shake head here] ... reservations exist for a reason. read more

I had 2 visits to Dr. Drury's office and was TOTALLY PLEASED!!! The wait was very reasonable (approx 12-15 minutes) each time and once inside, I only waited about 5 minutes. Dr. Drury was patient with me as I was very timid. He was very comforting, extremely gentle and right on point with the diagnosis. I haven't felt this good in months and my follow-up visit was just as pleasant. I'd recommend him in a second! He's the Best! read more
