A year ago when I move to West Berkeley, I tried few ultra-local cleaner services, it was a disaster. I ended up trying Berkland Cleaners after reading good reviews here. Since then I'm picking up and drop off clothes my wife and I care a lot about, almost every week. Had such a good feeling about these guys based on reviews and my customer service experience dropping clothes off. Very nice people. Seemed very professional. Thought I'd found my new dry cleaner. Got my clothes back and they have RUINED a brand new, very expensive Armani suit jacket. It will have to be donated or discarded. Jacket is shrunk so much that it can barely be buttoned, I can barely squeeze my arms into the sleeves, and the shoulders no longer fit. Trying to put it on with a dress shirt would be impossible. There are shiny spots from being overheated with an iron, in spite of strict warnings on the label about steam ironing and iron temperature. Seams at the breast pocket are torn. Fabric along the sleeves has been snagged and torn. Edge of the collar is ragged. Internal tags have been torn as well. This jacket has been cleaned once before (no problems) and I've owned it for less than 18 months. Will take it to Armani to see if they can save it, but not optimistic. I don't understand the other good reviews. If you have nice clothing, avoid these guys at all costs! I have reached out to Berkland and will update this review f they respond. read more

I have been going to Berklands ever since the local dry cleaners went out of business due to a fire accident. The people who work here have been nice since day 1 and work hard. Clothes come out pressed well, with no fragrance, which is nice given people have different preferences. I have been going there for over 2 years now and it is my go to dry cleaners. The owners are very nice, friendly, helpful, and welcoming in that community based small business. I think it's quite affordable ($2 per dress shirt!) especially since they use organic products and do a darn good job! My shirts are always spotless, sharply pressed, and ready promptly. I've trusted them with my delicate Coogi sweaters and they were even fresher than the day I got them. As a frequent wine drinker I've had a number of stains taken to them. Even set-in stains were removed with no damage to the clothes. Coffee and chocolate as well. Couldn't be more satisfied. read more

Came here recently to have a white dress shirt dry cleaned. After having a bad experience elsewhere recently, I wasn't in the mood for mistakes, and Berkland indeed did a great job! The staff person upon dropping off the shirt was friendly and answered my questions about starching and what not, and gave me the quote ($4.50 for the shirt). The shirt was ready on the day she provided, and was in excellent shape (sparkling white with just the right starch). I've had cheaper jobs done elsewhere, but Berkland got mine done on time and seem to have a very well run system, so I'm going to spend that extra dollar from now on and come here. read more

I don't know why this place advertises that they clean leather and suede. I went far out of my way to drop off a vintage leather jacket, suede dress, and leather pillow case at Berkland Cleaners, only to have the woman behind the counter tell me she didn't think that cleaning the jacket was worth it because it was too old. (The jacket is probably worth over $1000!) Then, she told me that I would have to physically take the dress to the leather cleaning company that they contract so they could give me a price. When I asked if she could just call them on the phone and get the price, she said "no." That's beyond terrible customer service! It's rude and unprofessional. read more

I brought in my wedding dress to get it cleaned and also to place it in a box for preservation. Prices vary depending on the size of your dress and how much cleaning you need. Service was excellent and drop off was easy. Communication was good, price was clear. My dress is now beautifully cleaned and stowed away in a gorgeous box with a window for viewing. I arrived at the location hoping to get some articles of clothing dry cleaned. Please be aware that despite claims and name this location does not technically dry clean. They use a water based cleaning method unfit for items such as fur, leather, and suede. The service, however, was great and the lady helping us was extremely polite and upfront about their process. read more

Had a VERY fancy wedding dress pressed here, and couldn't be happier. The dress is covered with beads and pearls and gems, with a multi-layer skirt and long train. They worked back from the wedding date/time to determine when they would do the pressing, and when we should pick up the dress. Upon arrival, I found the dress beautifully pressed, hung with support, and wrapped loosely for protection. SO happy with the resulting fit and look of the dress for this special occasion. read more

I live around the corner from Berkland, so the first time I went there a few years ago it was merely convenience that brought me. I keep going back because the owners, Julie and Michael, are truly wonderful and they do a fantastic job with my clothes. Prices are affordable and they use organic products. They've never failed to clean my clothes perfectly. And really, I can't stress enough what great people the owners are. What a great experience! When I dropped my items off to get dry cleaned, the employee carefully examined each of my items and made note of anything that would be relevant (such as worn out, moth damage, etc.) and discussed it with me. She was exceedingly friendly and was wearing a smile. I was not in a rush, so I picked it up a week later, and getting my items back was very quick. Prices are much lower than I had anticipated--I got a two-piece suit and two ties dry cleaned and a pair of slacks dry cleaned and pressed, all for $26.75. Overall a wonderful experience, and I would absolutely come here again! (It also helps that they are super close to where I live.) read more

Truly as good as it gets. Best dry cleaning experience I have ever had. I have only been here twice (once to drop off and once to pick up) but both experiences were lovely, specifically the pick up where two of my shirts I thought were ruined had been cleaned to former glory, a patch I had them sew on looked great, and everything was handed off in the most friendly and best-customer-service way. I really appreciated to offer to walk me to my car, asking me how my day was going, etc. I don't dry clean often, but I will ALWAYS be taking my business here. read more

AVOID Tailoring here. VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE Also We've had decent cleaning here, BUT, I had over a dozen shirts tailored and all but three were ruined. Julia one of the owners did the work herself. First she over shortened the sleeves and I specifically had her re-measure and fit before she did the rest of the shirts i had left there, she was bus so she was going to do them in batches. She did such a bad job on the first I should have stopped, but bc they seemed nice i just decided to trust that it would work out. Sadly she RUINED 10 out of 13 shirts. When we tried to explain she lied about the charges and refused to pay for the damaged garments. WHAT'S WORSE is her Brother jumped in to defend her and ganged up on me. I left all of my shirts there to be donated to the Good Will. What do they think I just wanted to have all of my shirts ruined and donated to the Good Will. I now only have three shirts to wear. I need to shop for all new shirts, go to many different stores and had a terrible experience overall. Julia was embarrassed that she'd done such a bad job, and instead of apologizing and making it right, she tried to save face in front of her brother who is obviously an aggressive unprofessional business owner. This is a VERY bad dry cleaner and even worse Tailor, in fact she should not be doing any tailoring. She charged me almost 300 worth of tailoring and she did refund the tailoring, BUT, I had over $1,000 worth of Ruined shirts. They owe me a refund of over $1,000 worth of ruined garments. Obviously they can't afford it and don't honor their mistakes. Don't make the mistake of using this cleaner, try The cleaner on Hollis or Solano. read more
