This is Denise the office manager, after balling up her fist and lunging at me 3 times saying you scared better be while the 2 females threatened me on a video chat. This is after I asked her and reported her to Berkeley community thearpy to stop coming to my place of work and my son's school harassing us, she continues. Don't understand her anger and hostility, however other reviews do confirm she threatens patients and gets other people to threaten and harass patients. Nagenne the physical thearpist runs a very hostile negative practice where she gets employs to harass and intimidate patients. Nagenne committed patient abandonment to myself and my son and lied on our medical records that I did not want to come back because of disrespect and unprofessionalism, and that is am her patient via phone. I have called and left messages and email messages with no response, and new and persisting pain caused by the physical thearpy and abandonment done to me and my son. The only response I got was Denise stalking, threatening and harassing me. read more

Had a really horrible experience with Negeene. At the first visit she only superficially evaluated me then gave me some basic exercises. The second week she gave me a new exercise and I said that it felt scary because it felt like my hip was going to pop out. She yelled at me that she had 20 years experience and knows what's she's doing. The third time I met with the assistant and I said I was struggling with the exercises and he said just keep it up. The 4th time I see Negeene and she's upset that I'm not getting better and discharged me without even looking at me. As unprofessional as that was, I'm really grateful not to be working with her anymore. My new PT explained why the exercises Negeene gave me were incorrect for my body and were the reason I wasn't getting better. Since stopping Negeene's treatment, I'm doing much better. read more

"You can't just walk in here, say your @** hurts and think you can see us same day" said the woman at the front desk, Denise, as she walked past me during a treatment session with Nageene. "I know right? People!" She replied to both her patient and employee. This office is negligent in billing, and bills incorrectly, adding "manual adjustment" to bills when no physical contact occurred. This office is stunningly rude and non-responsive when calling in, and fails to bill correctly, then refers bills to collectors. WATCH OUT, this place is NOT professional. Go to FYZICAL therapy instead. You'll be treated like a person, and respected. read more

I ask them if like to use the services. They say you need a recommendation from your doctor. I provide it. Then they say second visit you need your doctor to sign off on the amount of time your insurance covers.why not say that the first inquiry so I don't have to run around twice to the doctor. Run for the hills! The most rudest, condescending folks in the world. They talk to you like you're shit . In reading the prior reviews, I guess I was speaking with a Denise (office manager?). The other patients stated she was treated them with dis-respect and volatile phone service. I'm an ex-rehab nurse who called for an appointment and it took them 2 weeks to call me. Anyone with an acute injury would be non-functioning. I couldn't go to work with out any therapy because I'm limping and I can't walk. I called my physician to switch physical therapy from this ill mannered staff facility ASAP. Instead of them trying to accommodate you, they pick a fight, and upset you. Just ghetto customer service for a facility that suppose to help people. read more

After getting a referral from my Doctor for physical therapy, I made a series of 8 appointments over 6 weeks ago. Today was supposed to be my first appointment. I received a voicemail from the office manager Denise less than 4 hours before my appointment telling me that it had been moved to later in the day. I have a busy schedule like many of us, So I called back and left a message saying that I needed to reschedule and that I thought it was unprofessional of them to change my appointment on the same day. I then received a very nasty voicemail from Denise stating that they had canceled all my appointments. VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. Hello. I have been seeing Scott PT and Hunter PTA for a shoulder injury from pulling back my 130lb German Shepherd. Their manual skills and exercise progressions are top notch! I should know, I have been a professional dancer, wellness coach, strength/stretch trainer, and Classical Pilates instructor for over 30 years. I have had 4 serious injuries from a fractured humeral head, menicus tear, to a type 2 tibial -plateau fracture. So I've been through my share of rehab with many great physical therapists from Harvey Deutch who owned Redhawk PT in SF, Elizabeth Scarpelli in SF, Montclair PT, and Fyzical (Taylor and Thorton). My shoulder is finally getting so much better after 4 visits. They are punctual, thorough, clear in their explanations and strict, mixed in with equal doses of kindness and humor. Don't expect a spa type of treatment though. They will work you! The receptionists have also been very professional and cordial. This is a very busy practice so don't despair if they cannot take your call at first. The place could use a little spiffing up, ok maybe a lot! I'm just so happy my shoulder is almost pain free and my range of motion is better than before I injured it. read more

HORRIFIC! I have never in my life been spoken to the way this person that called me back from the vm I left at 1:01 pm on August 2 2023. They are closed for lunch from 12-1pm. I wasn't allowed to speak or answer questions. I was not allowed to speak to someone else or a supervisor. When I asked her for the supervisors number she gave me the same number and the name Negeene. The woman refused to give me her name though. She would not help me period. I told her REPEATEDLY I was new here and was trying to get her the information she was asking for. She screamed over me over and over about how I needed a referral from my doctor-the referral I had in hand. She asked me my insurance. I told her (my insurance referred me HERE) when I told her she asked me if it was this type or that type then told me they don't take it but take EXACTLY MY INSURANCE. I told her over and over I had the referral in hand and I understood if they did not have it yet. She tried to tell me I was getting upset when it was her that was shouting at me over something she refused to comprehend. This woman's lack of comprehension is not my issue it's hers. Speaking to me with absolute hate won't make her be able to comprehend any better. I finally had to say to her stop talking over me so I can answer the questions you keep asking! Recap-I have the proper insurance. I have the proper referral (already double checked with insurance and my pcp office). Looks like I'm not the incompetent one here. I made her the promise to follow this up as far as I could. I already filed a complaint with the insurance company. I will be going right on up that chain as well as filing a complaint with the state. I won't forget her voice. You do not speak to people like this in the medical field. You have no clue what someone is going through. NONE. Quit this job lady. This is not your calling that is for sure. Oh when I told her it was illegal OVER AND OVER is when she gave me the same office number and the name Negeene. It's like people think you aren't going to ever be there in person when they do this. Under the new ownership, this practice is a disaster, especially in its communication, or lack thereof. For example, clients do not receive any advance information about changes in appointment times or therapists. Moreover, one has the impression that the current owner simply doesn't know how to run a business. The front desk staff people are overwhelmed with some as rude as the owner. Adding insult to the injuries that clients have experienced, the owner fired Allan Horwitz, the one empathetic, completely professional, and truly experienced and competent therapist who had been there for ~30 years. read more

The next week I called twice on two different days and left messages on the machine very clearly stating my name and phone number...and still no one called me back. I imagine that this is the exception and not the standard, but nevertheless I found it super frustrating and extremely unprofessional. This review is for Allan Horwitz. The man is a physical therapy genius. He is also exceedingly kind, funny and pleasant to work with. I had a shoulder injury from swimming some 8 years ago (in a different state). I've lost count of how many PTs I've seen over the years--not a single one could get me to the point of full recovery until I saw Allan. With Allan I am 95% of the way there. It is nothing short of a miracle--when I started to see him the injury had been aggravated again and I couldn't even put on a jacket or t-shirt without experiencing a lot of shoulder pain. After working with Allan for a few months I am pain-free and have gained a ton of strength and flexibility. He is confident I can return to swimming and this is the first time in 8 years that I too believe this is absolutely possible, given this incredible recovery I've made, thanks to Allan. He has also helped me with an old whip-lash neck injury. One imp thing: Very recently Allan left Berkeley Physical Therapy and is now in private practice. I have continued to see him privately. I came to Negeene with a long-standing, chronic sports-related hip and back injury. Within the first 5 minutes of our first visit, she'd diagnosed my issue and was designing a stretching and exercise regimen to address the underlying weaknesses and ensure I could recover and get back to pursuing the activities I love. Honestly, I'd given up the idea of "full recovery" and was expecting to live in pain for the rest of my life. Not only am I now pain-free, but I'm back in the gym lifting heavier than ever before! Did my entire post-ACL surgery rehab with Negeene and her team. Excellent therapists that provided personalized rehab plans/exercises AND regular hands-on therapy (cupping, ultrasound, manual scar tissue work). They got me back to contact sports in quick time with sufficient strength to ensure a safe return. The atmosphere of the clinic is also very unique, open and well designed. I was very troubled after developing tendinitis in a shoulder because TWO doctors weren't able to tell me HOW I did and one suggested I might need surgery. Berkeley Community Physical Therapy (BCPT) owner Negeene Mosaed, who I met in the Friends of Adeline community group, suggested I give her service a try. "We can help you," she said. I'm glad I did. Firstly, her friendly and professional staff immediately made me feel at home. The receptionists remembered my name after my first visit and always greet me like family. Secondly, I got a highly revealing one-hour evaluation from Negeene, who's exceptionally well-educated, -trained, experienced and, most of all, deeply committed to helping others. Indeed, she told me in the first three minutes HOW I developed my condition. "Oh, I recently helped four other people who got it the same way," she said. "In fact, one just this morning." She carefully explained the exercise I'd need to do, both mentally and physically; gave me helpful handouts on it; and, as if this wasn't enough, DEMONSTRATED it. She also kindly agreed to let me videotape her doing it -- which has proved invaluable. Finally, on a personal note, I was excited by BCPT even before I began therapy when I noticed in its lobby the amazing mural on Berkeley's rich history of social activism, particularly during the civil-rights, ethnic power, women's, peace, ethnic studies and environmental movements of the 1960s. I'm a native Berkeleyan and a visiting scholar in UC's Department of African American Studies, so I know this history, but I was deeply moved to see it honored and celebrated in this way. But I soon learned that BCPT also EMBODIES these movements in the people that it draws and inspires to contribute to the common cause of making this a better world for all. Thus, it's a true COMMUNITY institution. I couldn't be prouder that it's located in my beloved hometown and is doing such good works, particularly for those who are often marginalized and receive substandard healthcare. I could NOT recommend BCPT more. If you need physical therapy, don't THINK of going anywhere else. You'll get healed, if it's at all possible, but you might also get INVOLVED! (Smile.) read more

I highly recommend Allan Horwitz. I went to him for 4 months for bad knees and a chronic back issue -- he helped both immensely. I never felt like he was working off a checklist, but rather watched how I moved, measured various extensions, and demonstrated what I should do. Worth noting first that Allen is an exceptional PT who is patient and effective. However, if you can make an appointment to see him, it's a borderline miracle. I have called numerous times over the last two months and left several unanswered voicemails to try and schedule an appointment. When I finally got a phone call back, Michael was rude and impatient. I stressed that I wanted a guarantee I'd get a follow up call, as I had been out of PT for two months due to unanswered phone calls and unreturned messages. Michael grew impatient, was rude and condescending. I've been in pain and grown frustrated with the communication breakdown. I spent a half hour on the phone with this business. The person answering the phone did not know the name of the various body parts, including what a tricep was. She had no idea what it meant to have the injuries that we needed physical therapy for and had no idea where the heel bone was located, she thought it was in the knee. When I got on the phone to a supervisor she was just as ignorant and asked for an x-ray of a tricep. They were rude and unhelpful and completely ignorant as to where body parts are. This is very frightening that they are going to be doing physical therapy when they don't even know how to locate body parts. I don't know if it's the person just answering the phone or if it's the entire place but the owners should definitely know about what is going on on the phone calls - maybe they are ignorant of basic anatomy as well... My daughter and I both have attended this place of business. We both received great care and the physical therapist are kind gentle and caring! The office manager Denise I s HORRIBLE inconsiderate and disrespectful. I am on crutches due to another accident 2 days before my appointment and was late. For the past 2 months I have received a text informing me of an appointment. On July 6 I had another appointment and I never received a text or a call (I am sure it was due to the holiday) as a reminder so I forgot again. I received a phone call from a rude and inconsiderate Denise. Scolding me about not making the last 2 appointments and that they can't see me anymore. I take full responsibility but you don't get to speak to people any way you see fit! To add insult to injury she hung up in my face when I called to ask to speak to her superior. People are coming to your place of business for medical assistance which also can effect a their mental. I would NEVER consider coming back even if I paid out of pocket. read more

My experience at Berkeley PT was disappointing. Although my PT was knowledgeable and gave me a lot of information, she didn't send me home with any handouts or emails so I could remember her advice. Her manner was direct and not very positive or reassuring. I was experiencing a flareup in symptoms the morning of my visit and she wasn't particularly careful in asking about my pain. I was very sore for almost two weeks after the appointment. I thought I was expecting too much, but I've since switched PT offices. The new office provides online visit summaries with video instructions. It's much easier to follow through if I can remember what to do between appointments. My new PT is more attentive and careful as well. Two stars because the staff at the Berkeley PT front desk was kind and friendly. read more

I didn't want to believe the horrible reviews for Berkeley Physical Therapy, but now understand exactly what people were talking about. It's hard to see how this place continues to operate, as it is one of the worst-run businesses I've come across. I started post-knee replacement PT here 2 months ago and am very happy on all levels. My PT, Negeene, balances hands-on and exercise/education, so I feel all my needs are met. I also have some serious back issues and she has shown a lot of ingenuity and caring in dealing with a complex and perplexing problem. One of the things I like the best is that Negeene seems genuinely curious and committed to diagnosing the source of my problems. I often show up and hear that she's been thinking about how to treat my irritable back; it makes me feel like she's as invested in my wellness as I am. The administrative staff is also excellent; professional, yet friendly and extremely efficient. Highly recommend Berkeley Physical Therapy. read more

I have never been a patient here, but I am going into the PT profession. Part of the requirement for getting into a doctorate program is that you have to obtain "observation hours" under the wing of different PTs in different settings, and I completed some of my hours with the folks at BPT (followed DK). What a busy little place! And after a few days of observation, I could see why! The physical therapists there are all extremely knowledgeable and passionate about their profession, and they really do care about ALL of their patients. I went to Berkeley Physical Therapy because I was having leg pain that my family doc could not seem to diagnose. The pain was deep in my thighs on both sides but whenever I would rub my leg, I could never feel /reach where it was originating from. I saw Alan and after a very comprehensive eval, he immediately requested that I have my hips looked at. Well, he was right. An MRI showed degeneration in both hips. My son went to Berkeley Physical Therapy four times. The first time the therapist spent awhile with him, but the three times thereafter were quite brief. He did learn some worthwhile exercises/stretches, but scheduling was challenging, and front desk personnel were often unavailable. Upon concluding these appointments, I received an additional bill in the mail, one that more than doubled the fee (which I'd already paid in full). I called the billing company, who said they couldn't help me, then wrote to BPT twice, without hearing from anyone. Finally, after leaving several phone messages, a woman called me back and told me that she would neither reduce nor eliminate the bill. "I will not be able to continue this conversation, since we're not getting anywhere" she said. I was shocked by her rudeness, inflexibility, and inability to understand that when you're quoted a certain fee per session, it shouldn't mean that it may actually be twice (or three times) that much, depending on your deductible. Had that been explained from the get-go, we would have never proceeded with treatment there. Clear communication (and a smidgen of kindness) would have been appreciated. read more

I have needed to see many physical therapists over several decades. I have never met one who is as knowledgeable, caring and helpful as Negeene, the owner. She's helping me with both knees and one shoulder. They are all getting better fast, thanks to her. I am doing the exercises she has given me faithfully and seeing excellent results. She also referred me to an MD who can keep my knees going for the next 25 years (I am 77 and plan to live to 100). I could not recommend her and Berkeley Physical Therapy more highly. read more

I had a good experience with Mark Poggetti. He's very supportive, positive, encouraging, and helps devise a plan for getting healthy. Highly recommended! The only nit I had is that scheduling was difficult; reaching their office by phone for the initial appointment was a challenge. But once I got past this hurdle, I thought the actual therapy was excellent. read more
