My wife and I recently bought a new house and we contracted him to do a remodel that spanned new windows, new lighting, new wood flooring, new insulation, and other pre move-in "touchups". We thought we bought a "nice but on the older side of a house." Rano turned our house into our perfect dream home! Rano's customer service attitude is outstanding: He lays out your options clearly and outlines exactly what materials and labor cost. In addition he lets you know quickly if problems arise. Generally speaking I've never seen him miss a completion date; though it did happen this past remodel - but we can chalk it up to anal Foster City building inspectors. This resulted in us having to delay our move for a day, but this is where Rano really shined. The day prior to our move, he came to the new house and did a final clean up (edge to edge) at 9pm on a Saturday! This attention to detail always impresses me. I like anal construction people. :) Rano's team is excellent - he's the only one I trust to do multi day through multi week projects and give him full run of the property while we're at work. In addition I've always trusted his judgement when I ask the inevitable: "Is the extra $ in materials for this worth it?" There's no attempt on his side to upsell the unnecessary or un-needful. On a secondary note for the ladies. While he's married; many women find him devilishly attractive - including my Chinese mother, who ran into his crew during our pre-move walk through, commented, "Wahh..[Wow] - that construction team is very good looking.". Of course, you don't tend to look for this particular quality in a top notch construction team. The North Current builders just seem to have it all. Well so about that "perfect" house comment - maybe... it'll be even more perfect when I save up to have him do our kitchen. :)

The scope of work was extensive. Vince and his team installed 1,100 square feet of mixed engineered hardwood and tile flooring. They replaced all the baseboards, door trim, and doors with new, shaker-style finishes and updated all doorknobs. Electrical upgrades included installing new can lights and retrofitting existing ones, along with new light switches and outlets. A new French door was added to the exterior for improved aesthetics and energy efficiency. One of the standout custom features was a flush-mount range hood, which required Vince to reconfigure the ceiling joists -- a task most general contractors would have outsourced or avoided. We hired Reyes, Amber, and their crew to help us replace our backyard door. We wanted a large…read moreopening (18 ft and floor to ceiling) so basically a whole wall in the house had to be prepped for the door installation. The project had a lot of moving parts. We needed an engineer to calculate the loads, permits, steel beam fabrication (to replace our thicker wood beams), framing, door installation, drywall work, electrician to move outlets and switches, painting, taper, stucco work on the outside. Reyes and Amber managed the whole project. They kept us posted, explained every step, communicated very effectively, and dealt with the surprises that are inevitable on projects of this size really well. I would recommend Shark City builders to anyone. They bring "union quality" to everything they do and for a more than fair price.

After reading through multiple reviews on Yelp and BuildZoom, we shortlisted 5 and ended up…read morechoosing Apollo after interviewing and getting quotes from all of them. During the very first onsite interaction, a few others simply gave a random number and later changed it quite a bit for a slightly more detailed quote. But Apollo took his time during the first appointment, made some calculations and gave a number. And then followed it up with a detailed line-by-line estimate - interestingly that was the same quote we used to settle the final dues. He is as good with numbers as he is with construction details. Our project involved a 1950's house - we completely gutted the place and also added some square footage. The wiring and plumbing was all redone, a brand new kitchen, fully redone bathrooms just to name a few. On day 1 he quoted 90days (from permit approval), he ended up taking a little over 110days. The +20days was due to an unanticipated delay in windows delivery. Apollo had multiple other projects underway and this delay was causing a logistical nightmare for him and initially asked to push the completion by 3 extra months. But after a good discussion, he came up with creative ways to make progress and lineup inspections. Considering he finished it with 20 extra days than original quote is some achievement! (An average contractor will slip by at least 3-6 months by default). Some traits that stood out for us through the project - + Apollo was very responsive and communicative, he will pick up your call at 7:00am or even 10:00pm and will show the same energy and positive attitude + He will keep you up to date on weekly basis, when appropriate on a daily basis and during the crunch time even hourly basis + Apollo has a very experienced team (some said they have been with him for over 10yrs) and they were all very skilled and meticulous + Although he didn't commit to it or charge us extra, he worked 7 days a week sometimes even late into the night to get stuff done Overall, you will not go wrong with Apollo. He is not cheap but he is not super expensive either he will be very competitive in his bid and most importantly transparent to the final penny! The key is to be equally engaged with the contractor to make sure you get things the way you want and communicate accordingly, and Apollo will make it happen!
