A local chain jeweler offered to reset the stones in a new ring, doing what they could to preserve its character. Their estimate seemed a little pricey, though, but what did I know? Although my daughter preferred retaining as much of the ring as possible for sentimental reasons, she was open to doing this. Guided by positive reviews about jewelry restoration, we then visited family-owned White & Ivory Diamonds and Fine Jewelry in the Village at Leesburg. A daughter, Alina, greeted us. She was delightful to work with, asking questions about what would be important to us and coming up with some creative strategies. Alina suggested keeping the setting and the ring itself while strengthening it. It seemed ideal, so we put half down and let them do it. They did the work within the estimated time, communicating regularly via phone text, and I felt optimistic the whole time. They preserved and modified the setting to display eight of the diamond chips and kept the original clamps that had held fast all these years. The "odd" diamond went into a recessed hole on the inside of the ring - a hidden jewel! They reinforced the lower part of the ring so it would last and could be resized and plated the whole thing with white gold. The best part was it cost half what the chain estimated. I'm sure the chain would have done a fine job, but my daughter couldn't be happier with White and Ivory's creative craft work. We're so glad we gave them a shot!

I first came into Leesburg Jewelers with my boyfriend as we are shopping for an engagement ring…read more I found the most stunning ring! It was the first ring we looked at. I want to be surprised however so kept shopping to look at others and get a sense of what I like so my finance can surprise me. The thing was, when the ring was taken out of the case and shown to me- it was put into a box which was obviously used. So I got this sense that it was a used piece. Was told it was new. I could see some very minor marks on the band and assumed it must be used as it was obviously an old ring box that honestly looked dirty. After looking around at others available that ring is still the most beautiful piece- honestly exactly what I envisioned and hoped for. (But I want to be surprised). I just thought we were lied to! It had an old box, and nicks which I assumed must be wear. I mean why would a NEW piece be in an old jewelry box? Why would it have some scratches on a band you can see if look very closely? The design also does not look modern but was just beautiful and vintage looking (floral cluster design). BUT Then I went in today to shop for a birthday gift as I really did like the couple. I wondered if I was wrong in the assumption that I was lied to. I mean- I liked them when met them, read positive reviews and my gut told me they were honest. So I wanted to give them a chance. My impression of the ring in the box being used and their saying it new was an anomaly from the other impressions. Most of all I wanted a nice gift for my daughter and I want to shop local and support family-owned businesses and not big box retail establishments, so went back in. I was very pleased with the purchase of the ruby earrings I bought for my daughter's birthday. Subsequent looking on the internet made me realize the price for the stud real ruby earrings was very fair! BETTER than anything I could find online anywhere for comparable quality of real ruby. They are beautiful and simple and perfect for my daughter's birthday. She likes them! AND AFTER I bought those I talked to them about my concern and straight up told them the integrity and honestly was the most important thing to me when I had been shopping for a ring. They reassured that with gold there can be tiny nicks from handling. They reassured it was a new piece, and even new items sometimes can get nicks you can see when look very closely but they can be buffed out. They also DO have an estate section- so can see the items sold as estate jewelry. (There is no reason to lie as honestly it doesn't diminish value for a really fine piece of jewelry). I mean a fine gem will be priced at market value. The experience of going back made me think I likely was not lied to and this is why: This couple have been selling jewelry a very long time and do have a good reputation. So After I discussed that concern with them, they told me that ring had not yet sold and I said "Let me see it again". Elaine then had to find it for me to look at that ring again as it had not yet been sold. It turns out they put out some jewelry every day in the cases but then- understandably, take every item out of the cases to lock them up at night! The ring I wanted to see was not in the same ring box the ring was put in to show me last time! AH therein lie one source of my assumption I think: They have a bunch of items just kinda all together where they get locked up in a safe at night and each day they take some out to show, and keep the others safely tucked away. Elaine had to open the jewelry boxes with rings in them one by one to find the one I wanted to see again. I am guessing the rings are just put in a random ring box- indiscriminately, and it matters little which box. Elaine knows each item and can tell you about each piece once she takes it out to show it in the case where set for the day; or pulls one out to find what you are looking for. When I found that ring first it was in the case being shown. I think she just grabbed a random box to place it in on that occassion. I got the sense this is a place with an excellent gemologist and reputation, in the very old looking store with -no fancy upgrades, -simple cases -simple presentation -recycling and re-using boxes (I am all for that honestly!) -and no fancy ads that has been doing business based on reputation and word of mouth mostly in this area for a long time has to have been successful and still here because of integrity. Lack of the modern fancy presentation or ads is what keeps their prices reasonable. One of the cases of "Don't judge a book by its cover" so to speak. Don't judge this jeweler by the look of the store, or the case, or the box. When given the gift my 20 yr old said- "OH! What a pretty package! I love the butterfly paper!" Elaine wrapped those ruby earrings that were in a pretty red box into a gorgeous looking package. I am very pleased I went back and trusted.

The shop also has a really interesting, well-curated vintage/antique jewelry section. In addition for the holiday, they worked with a local florist and baker to make really sweet, thoughtful Valentine's gifts. I loved mine! They even involved my kids in gem exploration (check out their geode kits online). Even the thoughtfulness with which they wrapped and presented our purchase showed their attention to detail. This is the idyllic world we lived in, in late February 2020, when I strolled into my local small-town jeweler, Hunt Country Jewelers, and dropped off my diamond stud earrings to be reset in yellow gold. I dealt with Claire Cutshall and our interaction was pleasant and brief. She told me my earrings would be ready in about 2 weeks. Fast forward about two weeks into early March: schools are shutting down, people are hoarding toilet paper, and fear is running rampant. It is then that I get a phone call from Claire letting me know that while in transit to New York City, my diamond studs were stolen out of a package. This, my friends, was the first time I had ever heard that my diamonds were leaving the small hometown shop known to us as Hunt Country Jewelers. If you read their very own website's homepage you see they pride themselves on all of their in-house work. I was so shocked to hear that my diamonds were lost but was pacified by the owner's reassurances that she would make this right and replace them with "better" stones. The original diamonds were roughly 1/3 carat each but Claire insisted they were only 1/4 carat each and that I was mistaken about their size because they had a bezel setting, making them appear larger. Luckily for me, I had an old appraisal stating that I was correct about their carat weight. I should have known at this point that this business was going to attempt to cut corners in dealing with my issue, but sadly I did not. She did indeed replace my stones with ones that were reportedly slightly "better" and had them available for us to pick up. They looked fine enough, although certainly not very different than the ones I had dropped off, but Claire told me they were better so I trusted that. At this point, we were embroiled in the most stringent COVID restrictions and the idea of getting an outside appraisal, or frankly going into any brick-and-mortar store was almost unthinkable. I tucked them into my jewelry box and believed they had made the matter right. In October of 2020 things had somewhat settled down, so I took these earrings to a very trusted and long-established jeweler to have them graded and appraised. Much to my surprise and chagrin, they graded worse than Hunt Country Jewelers had told me in color, clarity, total carat weight, and overall value. When I contacted Hunt Country about this, the owner assured me that she had specs on the diamonds asserting that her information was correct. I had to contact her multiple times via phone, email, and even dropping in to get this information. She did offer to have them graded out of the setting in front of me, but at this point, I had frankly lost trust in their information and decided to instead go to a third independent jeweler. I am sad, though not surprised, to report that the third jeweler concluded that the second jeweler, and NOT Hunt Country Jewelers, was accurate. In conclusion, while the new stones were a relatively fair match to the originals, what I was most upset about was the dishonest assertion that they were a superior replacement to compensate me for the sentimental loss and then their defensiveness when confronted with this fact rather than a sincere apology. I clearly will not be darkening their doorway again in the future and would really caution you to think twice before you trust any jewelry you care about with Hunt Country Jewelers.

0 Stars - Horrible Customer Service…read more I had a terrible experience at Zales Outlet Store #2711 on February 22, 2025, at 2:34 PM, with associate #475738. I was simply trying to locate a September 2019 purchase to check if I had purchased a warranty for my $2,129 certified diamond earrings. Despite giving my purchase year and maiden name, she couldn't locate the order. I even provided my maiden name, married name, and previous married name--as I have been a loyal customer for 20 years--yet she still struggled to find it. Instead of being helpful, she made an unnecessary and offensive comment: "Oh wow, that's a lot of names." After finally finding my purchase, she condescendingly questioned my memory, asking if I was sure I had purchased a warranty. When I replied that I believed I had, she put the receipt on the counter and rudely stated, "NO, you didn't." The unprofessionalism and lack of respect were completely unacceptable. At this point, I don't care what it costs to fix my earrings--it's about the principle and the disrespect I experienced as a long-time Zales customer. After 20 years of loyalty, I will NEVER purchase from Zales again. If this is how they treat returning customers, I'd hate to see how they treat new ones. Absolutely unacceptable customer service!
