Welcome to a real Country Kitchen! I was told to stop by and that I would enjoy it. The menu is basic and to the point. They offer frog legs, alligator bites, steak and other items. Walk in, grab a menu, have a seat and enjoy the experience. I had the medium size sirloin and it was MASSIVE cook to order! The alligator bites were good but not worth the $18. The service team will take your order and a few minutes later the magic happens! The service is good and it is a Country Kitchen so do not expect Michelin star service but they do tale care of you. The restaurant is nice and they have plenty of windows with a country kick. Weather was great so we drove over to Benton Lees this week. The steaks are wonderful as always. Wait staff is attentive as usual. They had opened earlier in the day so I know they had plenty of time to clean the bathrooms but didn't . Even a little sweeping would do wonders for the rest rooms. First off, I want to say that I've been going to Benton Lee's since the early 80s. I came from a large family, so it was a special treat when we all went. I continued this tradition with my 6 children. Now, my grown children are carrying their families. We are all aware of the rising prices, so it only makes sense to look at the menu before driving an hour from home. I can't express enough the shock I felt when we sat down to order. The sirloin for 2 was $12 more than the official Benton Lee's Steakhouse web page. Sirlion for 2 is $55, not the $42, as advertised. The Ribeye is $45, not $33, the gator bites are $28, not $24, etc... I can't find one current menu price online. The Benton Lee's Facebook page has a link to the history but nothing on menu. Once you click the history link, you can go to the menu, but again, it's not accurate! It appears that someone representing Benton Lee's runs the Facebook page, as they posted on February 10th, that they are open and not affected by the rising of the Altamaha River. So why not update the menu prices? One can only assume. 4 of the 8 adults in our group ordered the sirloin for 2. I was one of them. My steak was smaller than I remembered them being. The other 3 were given out and they were exactly the size, mine should have been. I asked the server why mine was so much smaller. She told me that mine was actually the correct size and the other 3 were bigger than normal. What?? For $55? She brought me another steak to make up the difference. The picture I posted is what was handed to me first. You can compare my steak to the ones they have pictures of online, it's not the same. (But the pictures they have posted are the same from at least 2016) The quality of the food has gone down. The steak had no seasoning. The Cole slaw had an overwhelming taste of onions. The fries were dark brown, oily and mushy. Both sweet tea containers were empty. The new tea they brought out tasted like it had sweet n low instead of sugar. My grandson's steak sandwich was an overcooked piece of cube steak. (It looked like a piece of leather) Our meal for 8 adults and 3 children was almost $500 with the tip. While I'll always cherish the memories I have of spending time with my family here, I won't be back. read more

First Bentons is charging extra for their steak meals due to covid. Which are expensive to begin with! And their oysters. Not sure why, but okay. We Found ourselves here at dinner on our Saturday drive from FL to GA and wanting to try something new. They don't bring the salad before hand and it's bagged salad. To top that off the salad they brought to us was wilted and gross and when we told the waitress she took it to the back and brought it back half full and it was like she picked out the bad pieces. Gross!!!! We left it on the table not touched. So on our plate was wilted salad, a roll that you'd bake at thanksgiving which wasn't good, a ribeye steak (the most expensive they charge for there), and a baked potato that was small and nasty tasting like it was over cooked. So out of my meal I ate my steak and a couple bites of potato. My husband had the same meal and ate the same and we paid 72 dollars. Definitely will not be back! And the steak sauce is Winn Dixie brand! I paid 29.00 a plate and couldn't even get Heinz 57?!?! read more

I ordered me a cheeseburger fries and tea. The burger came out just right. They were out of butter, out of Gator, out of frog legs....2 steaks were undercooked. Salads were forgotten, my hush puppies were hard as a rock and dry not to mention the roll was the size of a crouton. They ran out of tea and people everywhere were waiting for it. Service was slow but we were patient due to staffing. The shrimp was not fresh, the steaks were so fatty !! So disappointed and we will never come back. The food was severely overpriced. NOT complying with Covid-19 regulations. We were there earlier this evening to celebrate my mom and sister's birthday. We called earlier in the day to schedule a reservation and were told that our party would be accommodated. We arrived right on time, and the owner, Vickey Tapley, "greeted us." We told her we had a reservation and all she responded was "number, Number, NUMBER!" My sister tried to ask her what she meant by number, to which Vickey responded "I CANT HEAR ANYTHING YOU ARE SAYING." We all stood there in shock - unsure of what to say to her. She finally clarified the number of people in our party. If we have a reservation (which was confirmed) why do you need to know the party total? Vickey pulled another server (who was amazing btw) and had them escort us to our table. We were told for our reservation that we would have a more private room for our party, however, our table was placed right in the center of the restaurant, where they clearly had no regard for any sort of social distancing. We were sat right beside/on top of another larger party. The server who sat us tried her best to move us, however, there was no luck. I did not get this server's name but she apologized profusely for the exchange between our party and the owner. Our server, Tonya, was absolutely amazing. She was thorough with taking our orders, made sure we had everything we needed, and was the best part of our experience. Similar to other reviews, the food came out cold and unseasoned. Not at all how I remember the Benton Lee's food that I grew up on. We also noticed, through the course of our meal, Vickey seating other large parties and groups. She avoided our table at all cost... sending other random servers over to let us know things like "they were out of salad" etc. Upon time to pay... Vickey was ringing up other customers (without proper ppe btw), however, when our party came to pay, she immediately left the register and made someone else from the kitchen come out to settle our bill. Prices are also higher "due to covid." All in all, I would not recommend spending $300+ on dinner here. Maybe if the owner, Vickey Tapley, would focus more on the quality of service she personally provides instead of the numerous tacky glamour shots of herself she had posted all over the restaurant, this would have been a better experience. I'm not from this area, but my fiancé and I are staying in an Airbnb across the street from this place and decided to try it. The first thing you see when you walk in is trophies and some pictures of celebrities that I'm assuming came to the restaurant (still not sure about that). There were lots of spider webs on the trophies and dust everywhere. I made light of it and said "well, I guess the spider webs means no bugs, right?" Our original waitress was very rude. She acted disinterested in being there. We called over another server to ask a question about the menu, which she answered efficiently. Our original waitress came over while we were talking to her and said "She doesn't know anything" and shooed her away like she was an annoying dog. It was very rude especially since we called her over and she answered our questions. The menu is very limited and quite expensive for the quality of food. If it wasn't overtly salty, it'd be bland. My fiancé and I were both sneezing while there and when I left, I had allergies so bad that I felt sick and had to take a Zyrtec. The place is definitely lacking on cleaning and I'd be terrified to see the kitchen. We definitely won't be coming back. If you have asthma, I wouldn't come here. Disappointed in Benton Lees Steak House. Way Overpriced. I and 3 other people went to Benton Lee's over the weekend February 5th, 2022. The place was kind of dead after the lunch crowd and before dinner got going. When we walked in the Steakhouse there was a lady who said we can seat ourselves and why we were at it we just go ahead and grab menus for ourselves. We went to seat ourselves and most of the tables had not been cleaned off from lunch. We cleaned our table off. the drink order was 2 beers, 2 sweet teas, 1 water. Each of us ordered the 14-to-16-ounce steak. On the menu it lists that it is 32.99 each plus fries, salad or coleslaw. If you want a bake potato it is 4 dollars more. There are no other veggies of any kind. When we got our meals, the potatoes were not done, my salad was just regular head lettuce with cheese and one cherry tomato in a paper bowl and coleslaw that tasted like it was made anywhere else but in the south. absolutely terrible service. when i went to pay for everything I was told I didn't see the sign saying that all meals had a 4-dollar upcharge them cause food has gone up in price. I was charged for 4 ice teas and also water. I ask why there was a charge on water, and she (the Owner) said that she has to pay for the cup that I got it in. The cup was a Styrofoam coffee cup. You can buy a bunch for 1.50. The whole place was a rip-off, and they knew it... I will never be back and suggest you go anywhere but there even Shoney's. The owner was very unhospitable and shouldn't have a restaurant if you are going to people like that. she was very into herself and could care less about her customer. The one star was one star to much. Days later I went to Vidalia Georgia and went to the Downtown Bistro. It is filthy. They are rude. French frys were cold and greasy. The place is truly nasty. I worked here only a couple days due to it being so bad and they refuse to even pay for what I worked.. I spent 6 hours cleaning and you couldn't even tell we had touched it the grill is black. I will never eat here again. Yes, the view is beautiful, but that is about the most positive thing I can say. Our meals were served randomly and incomplete. The salads were mediocre at best - straight from a bag. The steak thehigh in fat content. Three of us ordered shrimp and received different things on our plates. When asked about why one person received certain items and others not, the waitress blew us off. The prices are ridiculous! There is a $3 upcharge to switch from fries to a baked potato that includes butter and sour cream only. The restaurant is a total rip off. Don't waste your time or money. This was my first trip to Benton Lee's. First off let me say that I was disappointed by the steak selection available. When you call yourself a steakhouse I expect an appropriate selection of steaks to be available. However what I found was that if you don't like either a T-Bone or Sirloin your out of luck. No Rib-eyes, No Filet's, No Porterhouse. Only T-Bone or Sirloin. My second disappointment was when I asked for my steak to be very very rare. I was informed that all steaks MUST be on the grill for a MINIMUM of seven minutes. You cannot cook a steak for 7 Min's and it be Very Very Rare. The restaurant only has a beer\wine license which is no big deal for me. However our server was actually to young and therefore unable to serve us beer or wine so anytime someone needed a drink she had to get another server to bring the drink over to the table. Not a big deal but it was a distraction. Having said all of the above my T-bone had a good charcoal flavoring when it came to the table and it was Rare though not as rare as I normally prefer my meat. Their forks & knives are somewhat wanting. It was difficult to cut my steak with the steak knife provided so I ended up using my pocketknife (I know how redneck that sounds). Also my fork broke in half while I was cutting on my meat. Go Figure. Some of our table ordered a gator tail appetizer which was a little to salty and so I wasn't impressed with that or the consistency of the meat its self. So, the next time I'm in the area and want a steak, You'll probably find me over at J&B's in Vidalia and not at Benton Lee. read more

****WARNING!**** AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! Where to begin with this restaurant. Honestly wish I could give it 0 stars because that's how bad it was. We went last night (8/29/2020) for a birthday celebration and it was horrible. We had a party of 14 but I'll only tell you about my families experience to save time! Hubby and myself ordered the sirloin for 2 and our son got the chicken tenders, which was good according to him. Our steaks were horrible. We ordered them well done (knowing it takes longer to cook it well done we were willing to wait the extra time) the first time they came out they were burned on the outside while the inside was still bright pink and bloody. Hubby had to get up and go find a waitress. Once they were taken back and brought back to us they were burned even more on the outside and still somewhat pink in some places and bright pink still in other places. At this point we was like screw it we aren't sending them back for a second time and just asked for a to go box. What few bites we were able to eat it was tough as nails and tasted like burnt charcoal. Not only was the steaks bad but the fries were way too greasy and cold. The brown and serve rolls were cold as well. The place was nasty and filthy. The table we were sitting at in the back room wasn't even wipes down properly (still had grease on it from whoever ate there before us). My shoes stuck to the floor every time I walked anywhere. You have to get your own tea or water. If you wanted a coke product or beer you had to go up front and get it yourself. Again we were in the back room, it was so hot ( never cooled down, stayed at around 80 the whole time we were there) The owner is rude! She doesn't care. Biggest steak I've ever had in my life and was very tender. The plate was literally about 12 x 24 inches and the steak was about 12x 12 inches. Someone else brought our food, and that was the last time we saw anyone until we paid. It took almost an hour for our cold food to arrive. One of the steaks was very much undercooked and the other was overcooked. The bathrooms were filthy. We've heard about this place for years and are extremely disappointed. First let me say, that in my whole life I have never had the experience that we had this evening. Never been asked to leave an establishment of any type. Hopefully at the end of my tale you will understand my anger. Here it begins. Seating yourself, a party of 8, no problem, think we can handle that. Grab your own sweet tea or water. Ok, strange considering the costs of the items on the menu, ok can handle that. Running out of coke in a can to be later replaced with a pepsi product, goodness, just made me laugh. The waitress being too young to serve beer so my husband had to go to the bar & purchase a beer every single time one was needed. Ok, well that was not the greatest. Items on the table that hadn't been changed or washed in goodness how long. Seriously, open up the steak sauce bottles or touch the salt shakers, you will be disgusted. Seems to be some nitpicking here. But really, hang on, gets worse, much worse. Waiting about 75 minutes to be served, after we had to say something. Not good. A slice of kraft cheese, not melted, on a baked potato, for an extra $2.50??? Laughable. Steaks not cooked properly. Well that is common enough we all know that. My steak was in fact sent back twice, once for being cooked improperly. Other steaks were sent back or just left on the plate as other members of the party didn't want to complain. A person complained that his steak tasted off. He stopped eating his after 2 or 3 bites & didn't want a replacement steak, he had the ribeye. When I got my steak, I first made sure it was cooked correctly, it wasn't but I was not about to send it back again, so I took one bite. I also had the ribeye & 100% agreed that the steak was off. The best I could describe it was it tasted a little like soap. Mine was sent back, never to be replaced. The owner did come to our table. The 2 questions she asked, first....where are you from???? Like that mattered? And I can't honestly remember the second question. Shortly after this a member of our party went to the bathroom to get sick, she had the sirloin. She was doing this as I was trying to figure out our bill. Because they don't put prices on your bill, and you have to go to the register to receive a waitress slip with abbreviations & pay your bill. Doesn't really give you plenty of time to make sure that everything is correct. When I let the owner know that someone was getting sick, she said not my problem, ok noted. The 2 ribeyes that were "off" were discounted off our bill. All other items remained. FYI, 2 steaks out of 8 were eaten, says enough. I go back to our table & overhear a conversation at the table next to us. They too were telling their waitress that something wasn't right about their steaks. The steaks were taken away, and they stood up & left the restaurant. Not sure what the outcome was. Then was told by another person, that another table in this place was also complaining about the taste. Now I don't know about you, but wouldn't you think the owner would be concerned? No, she was not. After I then discussed, not too calmly with another waitress what was going on in the restaurant, we left the building, only to find out that another member of our party was throwing up in the bathroom, she had the sirloin and did not have any adult beverages. At this point, I went back to the register, someone let the owner know I was back, and not too quietly, she said something on the lines, they are still here??? you have got to be kidding me??? or something. I responded in the like right back at her. Now, yes I was heated, I will not lie. My voice was raised, my arms were flailing around. But I never swore. And really tried to be calm about 2 people now physically ill in the bathroom. After her & my snide remarks to each other, I did say, I am not trying to get my bill paid, I am not trying to get a discount. Remember, at this time, I have already paid my bill. I wanted to let her know something is wrong here. Seriously wrong. Instead of trying to listen she turned her back on us. A person told us we needed to leave & escorted us out the doors. In 48 years, I have never been kicked out of any establishment. I did not read the reviews before going to this restaurant and I regret not doing so. Some things can be overlooked, if you are at McDonalds. But never should you ignore, not 1 party but 3 parties word that something is wrong. read more

I do expect to get what I pay for and when you pay $75 for 2 adults (including tip) you expect a little more. A little too warm in dining area. 2. Seat yourself- odd but expected. 3. Fix your own tea like a fast food joint without the fast food price. 4. Charged $2.50 extra to sub a baked potato in place of fries when steak cost $24 already.-you can buy a whole bag of potatoes for less. 5. Salad is brought with steak and not before- their practice-not an oversight 6. Waited almost an hour for ANY FOOD. 7. Steaks were not cooked properly so they had to be sent back so another wait ensued- but I did snag my salad off the tray to eat while waiting. 8. Salad was actually about 3/4 cup of lettuce ONLY. 9. All condiments on the table were CHEAP supermarket brands. 10. Steak was returned cooked properly but bread was left off and waitress never came back after I realized it. Who needs more carbs anyway... right! Long story short, the atmosphere of the restaurant on the river was unique but don't go there expecting to get what you pay for in the food. The owner did apologize for the wait stating she was having legitimate staffing issues and I can sympathize but a slight discount or comping the drinks would have been nice to soften the sting of a $75 bill for a sub-par fast food (minus the fast) dining experience. But... as it turned out it wasn't my LAST meal as the Lord was gracious and saw fit for me to live another day but did give me wisdom to be a better steward of my money and not put Benton Lee's in to our weekend dining rotation. May they get their act together, change a few service issues and continue to prosper (just not on my 750 dimes). read more

This place is located on the Altahama River and has the best steaks and burgers in the area. Don't get me wrong the food is very good but there are very limited choices in the Vidalia area. It may be a little difficult to find for out of towners to find but it is worth the trouble, any local will tell you that. They have some unusual items on the menu so maybe try something unique. read more

As you walk in the door, sign says grab a menu and seat yourself. Ok that's alright. 20 minutes later no one has even stopped by to say how are you.? First time here so we didn't know serve yourself tea and water was available. Grabbed a waitress coming by to wipe the table down as it hadn't been prior to our sitting down. She wasn't real happy about being asked to do that. It only goes downhill from here. Waitress takes our orders, then crickets chirping........... After 45 minutes we ask a different waitress what was going on. As people who came in after us had received food. She goes to check, comes back apologetic and says did anyone order well done, this apparently takes extra time. Like no one at our table had ever cooked a steak before, this was news to us. Then she says your order is coming up. Also, she says she's sorry but there is a birthday party of 25 people, only have 2 waitresses and short on cooks. Well, it was my birthday too, I had called to see if reservation was needed earlier in the day and was assured it was not necessary. Ok, well maybe the food is really good. Then you start thinking well if the rest of us is waiting on the well done steak to get done what's the med rate steaks doing? Sitting there getting cold?? We wait another 15 minutes and no food. So we walked out, only to be stopped by waitress saying your order is coming out now. Nope, give it someone else. I have visited this restaurant a few years ago and it was great. I moved back here in April and went there for dinner with 13 other people in our party. There was a large roach on the table crawling on my moms napkin ,It was the worse I have ever eaten. And the lady that took my money could only say I'm sorry. First my fries were cold I ordered a chopper steak with onion gravy. It was so salty I couldn't eat it fries were cold. Coleslaw was watery the server brought more fries out. Then I bite in to my steak an it was salty I couldn't even eat it the server took it back. I didn't order anything else , when I went to pay my bill it was $26.00 and some change for a catfish dinner and two sodas. They said they took off my steak. But they charged me for the coleslaw and fries I didn't eat. And a sharing plate. I ate a piece of fish off of my moms plate because my meal was not editable. The location is about all this place has going for it. All 5 of the various steaks my party ordered were so tough we all gave up trying to eat them. Aside from the steaks, the customer service was pretty bad and I was floored that you have to get up, walk all the way across the place and fix your own drink. The "salad" is a pathetic gesture...wilted iceberg lettuce with a sealed cup of food service dressing. All the "servers" do is take your order and bring your food. You get your own drinks and your own refillls. The baked potatoes, fries and onion rings are the best things on the menu. The whole experience, as a customer, is rather cattle-esque. One feels as if one is being herded in, fed, and herded out. It's a shame, really, because the location is gorgeous and it's a fun little road trip to drive there. Note to owners: please do better. Sad to say . The worst steak I've ever had. Cool location off the beaten path. They told use the new owner (nice lady) promised to keep it the same but I never visited it prior so I can't compair.the steak was just flat out tuff and over cooked. I got there quote best steak a ribeye but I believe it was a butt steak if you know what I mean.it really has potential but it will be hard to risk taking my biker friends all that way and risk it being an embarrassment. It was difficult to give this restaurant a rating of 2 stars. We waited for 45 minutes for our food. The salad looked as if it was out of a bag from the grocery store. It contained almost totally lettuce. One of our party ordered fried shrimp. The shrimp and hush puppy were cold when placed on the table. The T-bone steak ordered was tough and dry. Prices are ridiculous and those shown on their on-line advertisement are incorrect. Prices averaged about $5.00 higher each for the T-bone and rib-eye steaks.. I expect a higher quality of food and service for these prices. The containers of salt, pepper, etc., on the table were sticky. We will not be dining at this establishment again. read more

It is what you expect to find in the middle of nowhere. If you want a steak this is the place to go, great view on the river. nice and clean inside. plenty of tea. It is simple nice big portions of meat. Personal fav is the hamberger steak with gravy and onions. Dont go here for a salad your not going to be happy. Gator nuggets are good catfish is good, wasn't a fan of the tiny shrimps. check it out why not. its better than mcdonalds. read more
