From the moment you step foot through the front door, you know this place is special. A host greeted us with a friendly welcome and sat us at a booth. The booths are designed to help you have an intimate dining experience with your friends and loved ones helping to filter distractions and encouraging table conversation. The service was on point and never missed a beat. Our server anticipated each and every need and want and focused on making our dining experience truly enjoyable. Yes...yes... the service is great and the atmosphere inviting, but the true star here is the food. The menu is diverse offering delicious appetizers and mouth watering entrees. We started with the homemade fried pork skins with spicy ranch dipping sauce...FANTASTIC! Then I ordered the combo 2 which included an 8oz. sirloin, ribs, and 2 sides. Others at the table enjoyed the mahi mahi, and shrimp and grits. Each entree was prepared perfectly. To take this experience to the next level, the owner himself visits each table and thanks his patrons for stopping in and spending a part of their night at his establishment. The service was excellent. The burger was good but the chicken was VERY salty and a lot of black pepper. I asked the manager if he could make me another one without so much seasoning on it and he said okay BUT he will charge you for it no matter what. He said that how it get marinated and he did nothing wrong. That seasoning is used on the steak as well. The seasoning is not the problem it's just too much. read more

Food is always excellent! Love their steaks & all their homemade desserts! Never been disappointed.

Having seen this place packed out on Friday nights, we decided to try it out. We had checked the menu on Yelp before we went and noticed the steak prices. With prices like that, we figured these were gonna be steaks comparable to Longhorn, etc. Once we got there and saw the actual menu, the first thing I noticed was the $27 steak on the Yelp menu was now $34 on the in-house. I looked over the menu some more and was absolutely shocked to see the prices. I live in Atlanta and would expect prices like these there, but not in the middle of Appling County. Service was just ok. Waitress was nice, but passed my fiancé twice with refills (while she got everyone else's). The food? Not near worth the prices. Steak was full of fat and gristle. Flavor was good but it was just hard to eat. All in all, we were not impressed. Then.... we got the ticket and there was a service charge added to our bill. I guess it was because we had 6 people in our party. We sure didn't see this noted anywhere before we ate. Been there; done that. Won't do it again. read more

There's something for everyone here! The steaks are so good, but, don't stop there! The ribs are delicious. The shrimp and grits mighty tasty. The red velvet cheesecake is AHmazing! I do highly recommend trying the pork skins with the spicy sauce. Yes, it's a little pricey, but it's one of those 'nicer' places you go to when you plan to 'go out to eat.' we have been eating here for a little over a year but we will not be going back! our waitress was so sweet we had a to go order that we had ordered and it was taking awhile to come out. The manager was really nice about everything but was really rude about the waitress. when asked about what was going on about the order the manager told us " to be honest with you the waitress isn't good at her job and when you come back i promise you she won't be working here" this really hit a nerve with me. As a manager you shouldn't be talking like this about YOUR employee in front of everyone. even if she did make a mistake they were super busy and she was the only one constantly going around to tables. The owner ray is the same way. i will not be supporting a business that treats there employees this way. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. read more

This was our first visit. We had heard about the desserts and the steaks. Rays did not disappoint. Service was excellent. The wait staff attentive and efficient, recommended several items. Our meal was wonderful and the steaks cooked perfectly to order. We met the owner and ne t time we will definitely try the ribs. I was looking for a good steak so I dropped in Ray's with my daughter. After looking a the menu I knew they had to have a great ribeye, especially one priced at $32. Disappointed is an understatement... The steak was comparable to the Huddle House and not to mention the Huddle House frIes. I noticed the kids meal was almost $11. I ordered my daughter the chicken fingers. She had 3 chicken fingers and fries both comparable to the Huddle House. I received the check and it was $48 just for me and a 3 year old. I expected it to be that much, but after the reality set in that I just paid that much money for such poor quality I felt robbed. I have been 2 times before with friends and wasn't very impressed, but noticed the menu prices increased so I expected the $5 increase for the steak to mean better quality food. read more

Ray's is one of the best restaurants in this area, in my opinion. I have only been one time (so far....I WILL be back!), but I was so impressed by my first visit! We went on my son's birthday, but he didn't want us to tell them. LOL. When my family entered the door, we were greeted by the owner, in a warm, friendly, genuine manner. Then, as we were being seated, every server, etc., who was in the room, also welcomed us warmly. When seated, we were waited on promptly with menus, questions answered, etc. The server was very sweet and accommodating (we had lots of questions!). She never acted impatient, and gave us plenty of time to look over the menu to make our dinner choice. I should say right here that after you are seated, you get these homemade pork skins with a couple of dipping sauces. I don't normally eat pork skins, but these were so fresh, crispy and non-greasy tasting, that I made a pig of myself on them! One of the dips was an amazing jalapeno ranch, that I could have eaten on everything I had at the meal! It was wonderful. So good, in fact, that I can't even remember what the other one was! Now to dinner....my husband and son both had Ray's Ribeye, and both said they were very tender and tasty, and cooked just right. I had a hamburger steak, which was also excellent. During the meal, Ray came over to our table and talked with us some more. Turns out he and my husband know some of the same people. I told both the server and Ray how nice and welcoming they all were, and how much we appreciated being treated like we were family from the time we walked in the door. I really like that. The thing that most impressed me about the way we were treated is that it was so "real". I have certainly been treated well before in different establishments, and when you deal with the public, you need to be courteous, etc., but this was just different. I could feel the warmth and kindness in everyone we dealt with. So....if you want to eat some wonderful food in a welcoming atmosphere, please go to Ray's, just this side of Baxley (if you're going from McRae that is). We will be back!!
