The one star is for the salad bar that had lots of options, but be mindful of what you're grabbing some items look like they've been in circulation for weeks. The place is outdated, the service is practically nonexistent and the food is inedible. We ordered an app and entrees, tried one bite of the app which was a slightly burnt, cooked in old oil, monstrosity. Decided to see if the entrees would be the redeeming quality. They were not. My first visit was to the one in Jesup. I took a group of 20 senior adults from our church. The waitress put us in a special room where we were all seated together. I had the fried shrimp with fried pickles and salad bar. The garlic cheese biscuits from beside the salad bar were my favorite thing of the meal. The lunch menu was very reasonably priced. My meal with water was less than $15. We had a great time, and will return again and again. read more

I went with my sister and wife Saturday 6/14. The place was packed and kitchen was overwhelmed. So the service was slow. However the hostess took our order to help. We were catching up w/0ne another so it wasn't a problem. We took our time building a custom salad from the plethora of offerings at the salad bar. No one does shrimp better. Love this place and they have one of the best salad bars I've ever been to! Wait staff was very attentive and kept the salad bar area clean. They also have disposable gloves for guests to use at the salad bar. Food was great! We had a seafood platter and grilled shrimp skewers. Both were delicious. Make sure you go hungry. read more

There are few restaurants in Baxley GA so I thought I would go for some seafood. This place was overpriced, dark and outdated. The food was horrible. All the seafood was deep fried with the same coating and all of it was extremely greasy. Long John Silvers has better fish and it is fast food. I will not return to Captain Joe and would not recommend it to anyone. read more

I usually visit the Captain Joe's in Jesup and I am very pleased. We met a friend at the Baxley location, however, and the quality is not consistent. When I eat in Jesup, the shrimp are HUGE! In Baxley, the shrimp were tiny- like grocery store $5.00 a bag tiny. The fried macaroni was dry and gross. Only redeeming quality is the salad bar. I love a good salad bar. Visit the Jesup location if you want the better quality out of the two. read more

I have been twice in the past two months. The service was wonderful... But there salad bar wasn't stocked. I couldn't get soup until I was finished with the meal! My appetizer came out with my order. It was awful ..I would like to eat my soup and salad first and the portion on the seafood platter for two was so small me and my child couldn't get full. For the price I paid I wasn't happy...I'll drive out of town to get seafood after it being like this twice! read more

Out of the two Captain Joes I have eaten at this one is well worth the extra ten miles. Food is superb, flavorful, and crispy. Salad bar tastes fresh. Service is friendly and glasses don't go dry. My wife and I love fresh seafood. We choose the Baxley Captain Joes over our local Jesup location every time. A+ all around. read more

Tonight we held a gathering at this location to celebrate my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. You know: a once-in-a-lifetime event. We decided on this restaurant largely because it has private meeting space, which would allow attendees to converse and offer their congratulatory remarks. I confirmed our reservation for the private dining room several days ago, so all seemed set for today's event. Upon arrival we were escorted to a large private dining room in which tables were set for our expected number of guests. We were instructed to use a certain table for gifts, and another was provided as a cake table. I was pleased with the accommodation as our server took drink orders and our guests perused old family photos and socialized. But then, about 45 minutes in, ANOTHER LARGE PARTY WAS USHERED IN AND SEATED IN THE SAME DINING ROOM! This was another large group, very loud and boisterous, there to celebrate a birthday. We were just beginning to eat our meals, so no speeches had yet been made. I had prepared remarks, so I rushed to deliver them before more people arrived for the other party. I literally had to YELL to be heard as our family and friends leaned forward and strained to hear and focus. My heartfelt ode to my parents turned into a crazy shouting incident as I tried to bellow out my remembrances over the loud talking and laughter of the second party. Needless to say, what should have been a tender moment was lost. My father stood to thank everyone who came; my mother tried to do the same but IS too soft spoken to be heard. One other person attempted to speak, but then we just had to abandon the whole idea of congratulatory wishes and shared stories. When staff were asked why another party was put in with our private gathering, we received contradictory excuses. It was just an overbooking error to the restaurant, but for our family it was ruination of an important event. Our waitress apologized repeatedly, fearing for her tip, I'm sure. The food was well-cooked and flavorful, and our server was attentive and skillful. We had no complaints in those areas and certainly tipped the server well. But the food was our secondary reason for being at Captain Joe's tonight. Celebrating a 50th anniversary with loved ones was our primary goal, and THAT was ruined. I'm a native of Baxley and my parents still live there. I'll continue to visit my hometown, but tonight's inexcusable handling of our private party pretty well assures that I will not suggest Captain Joe's for any future visits. We'll eat somewhere else that offers more respect to their patrons. read more

The only positive thing about our visit was the salad bar that came with the meal. Everything on it was fresh and it was kept well stocked. The wife ordered stuffed flounder, the fillets were small, full of bones and it wasn't very appetizing, the stuffing was mostly filler with a hint of crab. I ordered the fried flounder and the three fillets were cooked properly but were also full of bones. There were so many bones that I basically ended up eating them with my fingers so I could feel and remove them. Our waitress needed a new job because she had no idea how to serve customers. When she brought our food she told my wife that she'd be back with her sour cream and butter after she took drinks to another table. Needless to say my wife never got either one and that was the last time we saw her. We attempted to complain about the food quality and service when we paid our bill and the hostess said she'd tell the manager.
