Oh my god, y'all. Don't sleep on this place. I popped in for lunch and got the pick 2 for less than $10 - I asked for the owner's recommendations, to which she said 5 spice chicken and 3 cup chicken. Both are different from each other and individually wonderful. 5 spice chicken was like spicier, Taiwanese popcorn chicken, and the 3 cup chicken reminded me of the similar flavor profile of perhaps chicken adobo, but a little sweeter. Both were SO good, hot, and you could taste how fresh everything was! I'm upset at myself that I haven't come sooner. Fried rice that came with it wasn't anything that will blow your mind, but it is a nice complement to both of the chicken dishes. It's hidden inside the food court at Eleven25 at Pabst, which I had never heard of until going there that day. Unfortunately, parking is kind of a doozy depending on what time you get there, but it is well worth the visit and I'm so excited to go back! read more

5 spice chicken, 3 cup chicken, and Brisket Beef Stew were delicious. Even the side veggies and fried noodles felt a grade above regular food court fare. Mapo Tofu was okay. We were a big group trying to decide what to eat so the lady owner got a bit curt with us for taking too long. Then got grumpy we wanted to order from the menu instead of the buffet. She at first said no but quickly relented. It made it feel authentic like being in a big city in Asia. haha. As a native Taiwanese, I am always looking for some authentic Taiwanese eats, hence I was super delighted when Bento Xpert opened in the Milwaukee area! Finally I got a chance to go last week with my family! We ordered gua bao/pork belly bun, three cup chicken rice platter (three cup as in 1 cup of rice wine, 1 cup of sesame oil, 1 cup of soy sauce), and the Hakka Mei Cai Kou Rou (mustard green with pork belly) rice platter. We really enjoyed the pork belly bun - the flour skin is fluffy and the pork belly was flavored to the point. Three cup chicken was legit too, exactly what you would expect to get if you were in Taiwan. I thought the Mei Cai Kou Rou was decent too, though my mom thought the mustard green can be better seasoned. Each platter came with stir fried cabbage, rice, and a half soy sauce egg, again, just like how you would get in Taiwan :D I wish they can have some other Taiwanese street foods - stinky tofu, oyster omelettes, or oyster thin noodle. But I would definitely go back and try their other dishes! read more

One of the four choices in this food hall, and let me start with the fact that the food is excellent. Absolutely delicious and authentic. But the service was a little annoying. So I came in when it didn't seem too busy, and the White woman working the front of the stand beckoned me over to try some "authentic Japanese street food." It didn't look Japanese, she gave me a sample and it didn't taste Japanese, there was writing on a Blackboard behind her that wasn't Japanese, and the names of the dishes weren't very Japanese sounding: "Mongolian Beef, HongShao Pork, Five Spices Chicken, Beijing Beef..." But it was decidedly scrumptious so I ordered a plate of the Five Spices Chicken and I told her "This is delicious but it is NOT Japanese street food, isn't it ..." a woman came out from the back and scolded me a little. She told me that this was most definitely NOT Japanese bento, "This is Taiwanese bento, authentic Taiwanese street food!" I told here that I knew it wasn't Japanese, explaining that her American worker claimed it was Japanese, but she still seemed a little insulted. Instead of explaining that she was the one who misunderstood, the White worker went to the back to get the other Taiwanese worker from the back, maybe he's the chef, so he came out and asked me "Are you the one with the questions about our food?" I told him no, his worker claimed this was Japanese street food, and he too thought I was the one who needed to have the explanation. He told me that he served authentic Taiwanese street food, not Japanese bento, and that they were written up in the Milwaukee Journal as such. I explained again that I knew this wasn't Japanese, and that his worker had described it this way. So, usually this sort of awkward and uncomfortable experience makes me not want to come back to a restaurant, but the food is incomparably delicious, a great deal and yes, it is authentic Taiwanese street food. I'm always on the lookout for good Asian food in Wisconsin (grew up in Chicago surrounded by many authentic Asian places), and Bento Xpert will certainly be my go to Chinese/Taiwanese place whenever I'm in Milwaukee! As many others have said, the owner is incredibly friendly and helpful. I came here at 4 pm, which is a weird in between meals time, and I was delighted to find out that all the entrees are made to order. I ordered the Taiwanese Crispy Pork and HongShao Pork (braised pork belly!!!!) - SIMPLY AMAZING. I was also pleasantly surprised to find out that their smoothies with boba are made with real, fresh fruit - not the powder! I have yet to find a place in Milwaukee that sells fruit smoothies with boba that aren't made with powder. The only critique I have is that the side of vegetables that came with the entree was a bit salty for my taste. My husband liked them, but I didn't. Just my own preference. I loved the food and will absolutely be back! I still have to try the Gua Bao! The only thing that would make this place even better was if they served Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup ;) Until then, I am certainly satisfied! read more

Stumbled upon this spot inside the former Pabst Bottling house. Nestled in the middle of the food hall you can smell the five spice walking in. I take a look at all the buffet options but I went for a cook-to-order item. Taiwanese style pork chop bento is a must order! It's marinated lightly breaded and fried served over a bed of rice with a side of veggies and a hard boiled egg. The Gua Bao is very soft and tender. It's a steam bun with braised pork belly, chopped mustard greens garnished with peanuts and cilantro. I met Samual the owner and he's very informative and hospitable, awesome guy. Omg! My fiancé and I are visiting from California, and I found this secret gem of a place on yelp. Samuel, the owner, is very friendly and took the extra time to explain the menu. My fiancé is a very picky eater. When the food arrived, the food was soooooo tasty and fresh that none of the dishes stood a chance and was eaten within minutes. Really good and locally owned, in the food court at the Brewery Complex! Same folks who have Marco Pollo (also located in the food court). Half the menu is more authentic Chinese and Thai, the left side is American favorites. Set up like Panda Express but better quality and less expensive. Go in when you can rather than using an app to order, you'll pay less and also have access to any specials being run in the food court. The owner told me outdoor seating is coming soon. read more

I am so happy there's a Taiwanese spot in town! I'm originally from Taipei and I can say that this is very authentic. I went with my bf and we ate with pure joy. The dishes they offer are typically what you can find in Taiwanese night markets- "street food"! I ordered the Taiwan Pork Chop bento and the pork chop was breaded perfectly and cooked just right. What I really liked about the dish was that underneath the pork chop is a bed of rice that was drizzled with a Taiwanese minced pork sauce (lu rou). Lu rou is probably one of my favorite things on the planet. The vegetables and tea egg were also seasoned well and it made me think of Taiwan. My bf ordered the HongShao beef bento and we shared the gua bao. We finished the meal with the red bean dumpling soup. It made my day yesterday and I'll definitely be going there once or twice a week. The owners are a couple and they are super friendly. I got to talking with them. They even gave us deep fried Oreos! This is definitely a place to visit, the food was great. I have been working my way through the signature dishes and I can honestly say I have not been disappointed as of yet. The food has a "homemade" taste, which matters to my palette, if I may suggest for first timers ask the owner or his wife for a recommendation (if you are an adventurous type) you may find their suggestions quite surprising in a VERY GOOD WAY. Here are my picks so far: Pork belly bento box - full of flavor and truly satisfying. Three cup chicken bento box - if you love spice and flavor this is your "one stop" dish. It's a beautiful composition of protein and veggies with amazing flavor and "punch". Bento expert will always have a soup of the day. I have had the chicken soup. Trust me when I say it's nothing like what you at thinking about. Again, it has that "homemade" taste and a broth of its own. Wonderfully seasoned and prepared. It can stand on its own as a meal. Go for it and try it. As I work through the menu I may review further dishes but for now these are the stars of the show, in my opinion of course.
