The prime rib was a thin cut, cooked as ordered and just the right size for breakfast., bacon & eggs. The bacon was very flavorful with crispy hashed brown potatoes and an english muffin. We also ordered a side of very tasty onion rings. Lastly, the Southwest Chicken Wrap ordered with grilled chicken. It is filled with blackbeans, southwest sauce, cheese and lettuce. It was a little lacklustered and I don't highly recommend it. The french fries were crispy and yummy. Coffee refills were a plenty. They serve blind dog coffee here which is lovely! The portions were more than we could eat and we never felt rushed to leave.

We bumped into Jay Frey and his desert stream farm booth and I could've stayed there for an hour. They had heirloom tomatoes, cherry tomatoes in four or five different colors, it seemed. Friendly faces that answered questions were available. Heck, it seems like Jay was the tomato whisperer as he pointed out to my wife, which tomato to eat tomorrow not today. He also had a small supply of greens, that we never even tasted, and that's another reason for us to return. Here's the good news, this was Tuesday night, August 19 and Jay let us know that the farmer's market has got another six weeks and then it will be done for this season. It's your chance to come taste some of the best tomatoes of your life. The Minden farmers market is open Tuesday evenings and there's a lot going on here that makes it a friendly fun stop. It's a lot like stepping into a Norman Rockwell painting and who wouldn't like that. We enjoyed a cocktail, we sampled potato chips and dip, which we ended up making a purchase and we met many friends while hobnobbing around the market. So you've got the chance to eat tasty, locally owned and grown produce purchased about four miles from the farm. That is something to celebrate these days. We ended up eating one of the four heirloom tomatoes as part of our dinner last night. It was delicious, and I was particularly proud of the fact that I resisted eating every bit of the tomato prior to it getting added to the dish.

Originally housed on the second floor of Station 1 on the corner of Musser and Curry, the concept was retained as the station was moved to Stewart Street, and a dedicated museum room now displays the memorabilia. "Fire trucks" from bygone ages are on static display and how lucky we are to see them in person and imagine the stories they could tell us. Each one of the vehicles is a literal work of art! A history of the Carson City Fire Department is available to read at Carson.org. Reading it can bring to life the photos and displays you'll see in the Museum. There is no charge for visiting the Museum. There is a donation box available. Parking is adjacent to the fire station. At the time of visit, there was a restroom available in the reception area of the station, near the entrance door to the museum. A few blocks away is the Warren Engine Company building at the corner of Musser and Curry Streets. Directly across from it is the site where Station 1 used to stand. History buffs and firefighting enthusiasts are sure to enjoy the CC Fire Museum!

It may not look open, but check in with the receptionist and she will open the large one room museum for you. It houses original fire equipment, memorabilia, and a couple of engines. The history of Warren Engine Company No. 1 (WECO) is- it was organized on June 17, 1863, in Carson City. WECO is the oldest volunteer fire company west of the Mississippi River. And probably the oldest continuously operated fire company in the nation. The name comes from the Revolutionary War hero, General Warren. The original Hunneman hand pumper, two hose carts, and 300 feet of fire hose on display in the museum. In the late 1800's it was an honor to be a member of a fire company. There was a pride of being the first to get water on a fire. Today WECO is still an all-volunteer company that works beside other firefighters and paid personnel of the Carson City Fire Department. In 2023 WECO is celebrating 160 years of continuous service. Stop in for about an hour and check their history. The equipment is in beautiful condition and plaques are full of great information. It's free. Just park behind Carson City Number 1 station in the lot.

Residents of the Carson Valley are super passionate about their community and the rich heritage of the valley and this event celebrates it all and activates the entire community. There's a big parade with participants from the local community and businesses, a carnival and more all across a series of days. With all of the summer events in Reno, it never really made it to the top of my list, but living kinda in between the two cities and with the whole pandemic and crowds in mind we opted to check it out this weekend and I'm glad we did. We missed the parade but made it down for the carnival and my kiddo had a blast. It was his first carnival and he was wide eyed from the moment we arrived, full on sensory overload! I will say it's not cheap, but it is a lot of fun. The ride tickets are $1.50 each or they sell an all you can ride wristband that goes all day and into the night or you ca. Buy 24 tickets for $30, which is what we did. Most rides were 3-4 tickets, so it made for a fun day for the kid. The games are a total rip at $6 a play, but you are almost guaranteed to win a prize so it's good for kids. We didn't really get into the food or explore the vendors so I can't comment on that, But all in all a good time had by all.

My wife and I have been coming to Renner Farm annually for the last 4 years to enjoy their…read moreHalloween/Harvest festivities. It's a small, family owned farm in Smith Valley, NV. During Halloween time they sell pumpkins (of course), fresh vegetables, locally sourced honey, farm fresh eggs, and more. New this year is the inflatable movie screen they've set up. Every weekend they've played family friendly movies such as Nightmare Before Christmas and Hocus Pocus. They also have a bounce house, do tractor pulled wagon rides around the pumpkin patch, and set up a corn maze with a new mystery to solve every year. Outside of the season, however, they continue to sell a lot of the items listed above. The family who own/run it are great people and have always had smiles on their faces every time we've been there. I couldn't recommend visiting and supporting this local farm and family enough.

That means they won't pay you full track odds, so if you bet a Pick 6 and it hits for $500,000, they won't pay you the full amount. Instead, they'll pay you something like 300to1 based on your amount wagered AND use a hard cap of a maximum $5,000 payout for any bet made. For casual horse players who only bet Win/Place/Show, you're probably okay placing wagers on horse racing here when they carry it. Otherwise, true horse bettors need to find a parimutuel book (such as CVI, Atlantis, Peppermill or Caesar's Republic - always ask the teller if they are a true parimutuel before you place a horse racing wager). On the plus side, they have kiosks for placing bets if you don't wish to place your bet through a teller (like me).

The casino is usually pretty empty, and now I know why! There are NO cocktail waitresses. You're depending on the bartender to see you and realize that you are there. Sometimes there two bartenders. They do not walk around to check on customers. This one bar tender (picture posted) was talking to someone for over 30 minutes, not paying any attention to any other customers. I can see the bar from where I'm playing. After waiting 40 minutes, I took a chance, leaving my purse on my chair, to go to the bar. I told the bartender where it was sitting, that I had been sitting there for 40 minutes, and could I please have a Chardonnay. She eventually brought it to me. The other problem . . . The whole place smells like Pine-Sol cleaner. Workers are continuously cleaning when there's really no customers. If they had someone paying attention to the customers playing, maybe COD's business would do a lot better. I will not go back! I will bring my money elsewhere!
