Last December, the owner, "Rich," came to…read moremy 1793 house and talked me into purchasing ventless gas logs for my fireplace for approx $4,000. I used them all of last winter with no problem. Fast forward only 7 months to July. I was out of town on vacation and I got a random message from my dog walker that these logs he sold me had self ignited. Mind you I was on vacation. Thank God the dog walker was there to see the fire. The next day, Rich came out and ordered a part. He said rain had seeped in the chimney and wet the unit causing them to reignite. Once the part came in after Rich and his wife were on speaker phone saying if they can even get this fixed it is going to happen again because of the seepage. At this point I asked Rich if he could just give me a refund. Then Rich started yelling loudly at me telling me things like electricity should never go where there's water. He continued by saying "you would never put a TV under there would you?" I was confused why he asked if I would put a tv in my fireplace, but whatever." He kept yelling irately and it became a heated argument on both sides. The minute I asked for a refund, he stopped working on the gas logs and left me with what's pictured below. After he left we emailed his store and asked to go in to work this out. I was told they won't be doing anything for me and that I am not allowed back in their store. All and all, I called this chimney service and ended up being talked into buying approx $4,000 of gas logs. They are chimney experts and never mentioned that water that comes down a chimney could cause the gas to spontaneously ignite. I asked for a refund and was immediately yelled at and was banned from going in the store to figure out a resolution. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE at Rich and John's. I wouldn't recommend this business to ANYONE. They have my approx $4,000 and left me with what is in the picture below.

The guys seemed nice and Junior knowledgeable, but…read morethey altered my chimney caps and left my boiler flue cap wide open to the elements and any critters (see before and after photos). Not giving me a heads up to call someone to cap the boiler flue? I didn't know this until I went up to the rooftop to check out the situation myself, because a storm was coming through and when I looked at the chimney from ground level it looked wrong. This could have been a disaster if I didn't catch it and called another company who was available to come by and cap the flue. Not sure what these guys are doing, but seems sketchy to me. Also tried to convince me I need a new chimney, roof and boiler set up. Second opinion said no to all. Two stars because fireplace insert is working.

They charged us over $400 for an inspection and what they called a 'cleaning' which involved…read morevacuuming out the box of the insert and the top of the stove. They weren't able to clean the stove initially because they couldn't get the cover plate off the insert. We took it off with a grinder and then they charged us another $100 to vacuumed the top if the stove, which took all of 5 minutes, and they missed a bunch of creosote mess (that we ended up vacuuming out ourselves) in the back of the stove. So we basically paid them another $100 for doing the work ourselves. Their strategy seems to be to give you a reasonable quote for a cleaning and inspection (~$120) and then tacking on additional costs for any little thing. Their approach is to take advantage of the customer whenever they can. Stay away from them!

Our story: Several months after buying our house last year 2016, we called Ener-G Tech to have someone come out to clean/service our 3 gas (propane) fire places in our house. Also make sure they were safe to use without any gas leaks with the old units. They answered our phone call and we got scheduled for them to come to our house within a few days. Paul showed up on time and did an excellent job servicing/cleaning our old fireplace units and also took the time to talk to us about perhaps a different operating unit that you wouldn't have to get on the floor to start the pilot light. A few days after he was at our house we made the time to drive to Stratford to check out their show room and see their gas fire place units set up and operating. (Great show room by the way!!) We fell in love with the idea of just a click of a button to start them! No more climbing on the floor trying to light them. Right their we ordered 3 new automatic starting units with a click of a button. A week later all units were in at their store and their contracted plumber picked them up and got scheduled with us to come out and install them.
