I've had 3 surgeries in the past 2 months; 2 done by Dr. Schlechter. I can't say the Dupuytren's contracture surgery, done by someone else, was meatball surgery, but it was close. A non-malignant growth between my eye and nose was very worrisome, at least before the biopsy was received. Dr. Schlechter got it all, so I asked him to remove a mucous cyst on my right thumb. I showed Dr. Schlechter's work to the hand surgeon's OTRL, who admired it, and my neurological CRNP, who also agreed that it was a work of art. Neither ladies commented on my contracture surgery. In defense of the hand surgeon it required removing 1" of ring finger tissue and 1 1/2" of fibrous tissue in my palm. A 2 1/2" (6 cm) scar is a serious operation. I'll be performing therapy for 6 months until the scar has flattened, then for many years to prevent the return of 'Dupes'. My eye is healed, my thumb has numbness where a flap of skin was turned down to allow Dr. Schlechter to remove the cyst without compromising the thumb bursa sac. That will resolve normally, as skin removed for hernia surgery. We have brilliant and kind surgeons in Berks County; millionaire don't travel anywhere but the U.S.A. to receive serious medical attention; God bless America. I am indebted to Dr. Schlechter for his skilled compassionate care of me. A "medium to large cerebellar infarction" stroke survivor, from 3 years ago, I require 100% from doctors and their practices, 100% of the time. Dr. Schlechter is a godsend! I had a procedure (draining an infected cyst in my back) done by a general surgeon in Harrisburg. After three weeks, my wound was not getting better. The drain was very uncomfortable, and the wound seemed to be deteriorating. At my follow-up appointment, the general surgeon told me I'd have to wait 2-4 more weeks at which point he'd assess whether he could proceed. He said the second surgery to remove the cyst and close the wound would be done in the hospital. I called Dr. Schlechter for a second opinion. I was able to get an appointment with Dr. Schlechter very quickly. He removed the drain, finished the cyst removal, and prescribed an antibiotic cream to aid in healing. By the next day, I felt a million times better. I actually woke up singing! I cannot get over the difference in the level and quality of care, professionalism and skill. Dr. Schlechter is worlds above the surgeon in Harrisburg. It was clear that Dr. Schlechter cared about my situation and that his primary concern was healing me. It was such a relief! I went to Dr. Schlecter based on another surgeon's recommendation. I needed to have a mastectomy and when discussing the reconstruction piece, I asked my general surgeon who he would tell his wife to go to in the same situation, and he didn't even hesitate. Dr. Schlecter and his entire team have been AMAZING. I feel so comfortable in their office, I feel heard and understood by Dr. Schlecter, and the staff knows you by name. Everyone has been supportive and encouraging. Every doctor who has had to look at me has commented on how great his work is, and I have to admit it looks so much better than I expected! Going into this decision, I had so many questions and uncertainties. Not only in regards to whether or not I would be happy with the way I look after all was said and done, but if the outcome would really be worth going under the knife and the whole recovery process that followed. As someone who has always pushed my body to physical limits as a competitive athlete, I wanted to make absolutely sure it was the right move for me and that the surgery would not affect my ability to continue to do the things I love every day. Dr. Schlechter was there for me personally from the moment I stepped in for a consultation. Everything from my pre-surgery concerns to my questions during recovery would always receive quick responses and the assurance I needed to feel at ease with any routine aches or pains I experienced. He never left me waiting or worrying and would find time to see me immediately, even if was simply to calm my nerves about something small. He truly cared about my health and took whatever action necessary to alleviate all the stresses involved in a serious surgery. For close to 4 years, I have been associated with Spring Ridge Plastic Surgery (formerly Proserpi Schlecter Center For Plastic Surgery) as a client. A few years earlier, I had gone to a local dermatologist/cosmetician a few times for Botox treatments, and always left with an uncomfortable experience. The issue was not the treatment, but the sales pressure from the doctor/staff to buy skin care products and have more injections. Being that Botox injections were costly, and that my need for treatment was not a necessity, I stopped going altogether. A couple years later, I came across an introductory offer for "new clients" at Dr. Schlecter's practice (and the Spa at Spring Ridge...an extension of his practice). Suffice it to say, I made an appointment (with some trepidation). Though admittedly, I was neither satisfied or dissatisfied my first couple visits, I did feel a bit uncomfortable and unconnected. Then again, I was a new client and neither Dr. Schlecter or his staff knew me. For all they knew, I was a once and done kind of client. However, after my second visit, that all changed. I knew I was in good hands. Better yet, there was no sales pressure, and I felt that the only thing that mattered was my level of satisfaction and comfort when getting injections. In 2011, my confidence with this practice was such that I finally looked into plastic surgery and mammoplasty (breast reduction surgery). After having a thorough consult with his qualified, experienced staff, I walked away with all the necessary documents and costs. Still working and travelling full-time, I determined that though I had wanted this procedure done most of my adult life, I was not in a position to take the time (I felt) necessary to heal. Process to getting there: When I was ready, I scheduled another consult we sat once again and discussed the procedure (in depth. They went over any and all risks associated with mammoplasty and surgical procedures in general. We worked out a suitable date and time for my surgery, I was handed my pre and post-op instructions and made a deposit for the surgery. Though I may have had a slight chance of having the procedure covered via healthcare insurance, I chose to pay for the surgery on my own. For me, there was less stress to deal with. Having said that, I really did not feel all that stressed about the surgery. Dr. Schlecter and his staff were very open and straight forward with everything. The day of surgery, I went in and consulted with Dr. Schlecter about what my expectations and desire relative to breast cup size, incisions, etc. He marked me for surgery, took photos (by the way, a recent/current mammogram is required prior to surgery). Shortly thereafter, I spent time with the Anesthetist (who has been with him for years). He asked some necessary questions and explained his role and what would happen once back in surgery. I then went back to Dr. Schlecter's surgical center (used solely by his practice), was introduced too his two nurses, and next thing I knew I was in recovery next to the surgical room. My spouse was there to take me home, and I already had my prescription pain meds and anti-biotics (scripts given the day I signed up for the surgery). Surprisingly, I used little pain medication, and (for me) could have probably made it just fine with extra-strength Ibuprofen. Within the first 3-4 days of surgery, I was back for an exam (this appt is made for you the day of surgery). I was back again within the week for another post-op exam, then again about a week to 10 days later. Fast forward to today ... I am now 9 weeks post-op, and have had the mammoplasty. I could not be happier!!! It was the best thing (and best time) for me to have the procedure. Though every individual is different, I found my surgical experience and recovery to be a breeze. Most importantly, I LOVE my breasts, and never thought I would ever feel that way in my lifetime. I have another post-op appt coming up ... all of which are part of the initial cost of the surgery. Though there will always be some visible scarring, I must say, mine is subtle and healing wonderfully. Mind you, I FOLLOWED ALL INSTRUCTIONS AND LISTENED TO MY DOCTOR. In closing, this is supposed to be about MY doctor, and probably less about my experience. However, I feel it important for people to know why I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this practice ... and Dr. Schlecter for ANY plastic surgery. It is with great confidence, that I am highly recommending Dr. Benjamin Schlechter, who has performed two surgeries on me, leaving my highly satisfied. The first, in 2008 an upper and lower eye lift, which resulted in a more youthful and natural look, as the lower lids were slightly lifted, resulting in a fresher appearance. After the surgery I had minor swelling and bruising, no pain. The stitches dissolved within a few days, leaving me with nearly invisible scars one month later, which disappeared complete after one year. In both cases, my expectations were exceeded, both during and after the procedures. The staff explained what to expect in detail, I felt personally cared for, secure and at peace. I went to Dr. Benjamin Schlechter today for a second consultation on plastic surgery the 1st consultation I had was with a different plastic surgeron and needless to say when I left the 1st consultaion I left feeling more depressed then when I went in. If I am coming to your office for a consultation I dont need for the dr to make me feel like I am worthless and tell me that I need to lose weight before he would do a procedure on me. I am coming to you because I am looking for your assistance not for you to tell me Im fat I already know that thats why I made the consultation in the 1st place. When I went to see Dr. Schlechter I had a very different feeeling 1st of all he came into the room with scrubs on and not a suit and tie and he talked to me and not above me he made me feel so comforable and told me what he is able to do for me and never once made me feel worthless or drpressed. He answered all my questions and concerns he was so down to earth and he is so personable he didn't act like he was better then me.
