Benihana take out is a total ripoff!! I ordered the steak and chicken hibachi entree with no onions, extra zucchini, and no onion in the fried rice. I didn't get any chicken. I got 3 small pieces of zucchini and the rest was onions.I did not get fried rice, I received steamed rice. I paid $40 dollars for a meal that wouldn't be enough for my 4 year old grandson! We had a fun night out with family tonight. We were a little skeptical after reading all the negative reviews here and other sites but decided to take a chance. We are so happy we did, food was great, our chef was very personable and put on a great show. We enjoyed trying the Saki flight and the sushi was great too. So disappointed! They only had three cheffs working on a thursday night. I remember as a kid always begging my mom to come bring me here. We would always come here for family birthday dinners. The customer service here is horrible, they take no accountability and two people can order the same dish while receiving different portions. This was not my first time coming to this location but it will definitely be my last! Every time I come I order the Splash n' Meadow because I like steak and shrimp. Someone else with my party ordered the same thing, the issue is they got a good portion of shrimp and I received 2 maybe 3 shrimp. When I brought up the noticeable difference the cook said oh their appetizer shrimp is mixed in. When I pointed out the appetizer shrimp on the other side of the plate the response was well you received the right portion and they were over portioned. I took a picture of my plate which then triggered the cook to let the manager know I had an issue with my food. The manager immediately tried to tell me that I can't compare my plate to someone else's and I received the correct portion. How do you not compare the same dish at the same table and within the same party? The other plate which I didn't take a picture of and I'm regretting had significantly more shrimp than the one pictured here so which happens to be my plate, not to mention this dish is almost $40. It wasn't until I stated I would never eat at this establishment again and that we didn't have to continue this conversation that the manager wanted to rectify the situation. I left the restaurant with no resolution and they could care less. There are too many good hibachi places in Memphis with GREAT customer service and better food to waste your time and money at this location. Benihanas I make it my business to go to Benihanas when I'm in a new city because I LOVE it so much! But this was NOT the experience I'm used to! We came here for a birthday dinner with reservations for 8pm. Everyone arrived on time as requested because we knew they wouldn't seat us without everyone being present. Well, we didn't get seated into 9:45pm!!! Crazy!!!! Then, once seated because we waited SO LONG, we made sure to order everything we wanted when the server came to get drinks because we had been waiting for so long. Well, we did, and still didn't get the soup until 10:43pm and still hadn't got the alcohol drinks ordered. It seemed as if they only had 2 chefs cooking. I don't know, but this was the worst experience ever! If I wasn't so hungry and hadn't wasted so much time there, I would have left! The restaurant wasn't clean like it normally is at other locations, and the service was NOT present AT ALL! I would NOT recommend that anyone come to this location if you are used to great customer service! We requested the manager as well... she finally walks over with tons of receipts and money in her hand (NEVER apologized) but offers to give some "cards". She handed us Complimentary appetizer cards, and still no apology! 11:24 p.m., and we were STILL waiting for our chef! First time ever at a Benihana. It was nice, we had a reservations for 6:30 and we were seated quickly with two other people. Our waitress was very attentive and our cook was pleasant. He wasn't as engaged as others, but I think the problem was the two others at our table were stone faced during his jokes, soon think he just gave up. The steak was wonderful! A little disappointed that the menu said we got hot green tea (it was never offered) and when my son asked about green tea ice cream, they don't serve it anymore. Vanilla ice cream was offered but only after we asked. And fried rice is $5 extra. Our bill was $164 for three people - seems like they could have given us the fried rice Next time, we'll probably just go to Nagasaki, but now we can say we've eaten at Benihana. read more

This place was running 2 HOURS BEHIND ON A RESERVATION SCHEDULE. Yes, it was New Years. BUT, a TOTAL ABSENCE OF CONTROL. Instead of asking people to leave after they had spent a significant amount of time at the table AFTER THEY PAID, they chose instead to make people wait who made good faith reservations. PLUS, they were doing all they could to NOT let people know how far behind they were. Can not even give 1 star! Arrived for a 6 pm reservation and several workers were standing in parking lot smoking pot and couldn't move for us to park. Next waited for 30 minutes to even get a drink order from the waitress who obviously was so stoned she couldn't get our drink order right and forgot our soups or dessert for 5 course meal...2 hours later chef shows up to cook our meal and to say it was the most underwhelming experience we've ever had there. The bathrooms were awful, no toilet paper on rolls but all over the floors and soap dispenser was removed from wall and sitting on sink, at least there was soap cause it was horrendous! We made reservations for 12:30 and arrived 15 minutes early. They told us it would be a minute for a hibachi table. We had 2 seven year olds with us and they were hungry. We waited 45 minutes before we're were seated. Once seated, we waited 20 minutes for drinks. My friends daughter had apple juice and it didn't come with our waters. It took so long, her mom finally went to the bar and got her a water. My friends daughter was literally in tears she was so hungry. We sat with no food or drinks while several hostesses stood at the hostess stand. We didn't get our salads until the hibachi chef started cooking our food. The waitress said she was the only one there and I understand there is storage of workers in restaurants. What I don't understand, are hostesses not helping, no one apologizing for the long wait, or complimentary food being offered. When you have a child crying at the table she is so hungry and you are eating snacks out of your purse, it's gotten ridiculous. I'm not sure who manages this restaurant; however, they are not doing a good job. If you are short staffed, establish workflows to accommodate. There are more hostesses than waiters. Regardless of what changes, I will never step foot in this restaurant again. I can't imagine it will stay in business. The customer service if she worst I've seen, the only redeemable person was the hibachi chef, she was polite and tried to get us our food quickly. After never eating at Benihana before, and also being a lover of Japanese hibachi, I was very excited to eat here. I looked at the menu for days. I planned on treating my mom and myself to an amazing meal. I had already picked out what I would eat, planned on spending at least $100 on my filet and shrimp, and drinks, an appetizer, and planned at least a $20 tip. This was just for my meal, my mom was going to spend an equivalent amount. We were excited and thrilled to eat a great meal. When we walked into the restaurant at 5:05PM, there was no one working at the host desk. We had made a 5PM reservation on opentable, and we were 5 minutes late. We saw what looked like 8-12 employees in the restaurant, but no one said a word to us. They did stare, but no one made any attempt to attend to us, After about 7 minutes, the host came and told us to sit in the bar, it was open seating. There was only two other people in the restaurant when we sat ourselves in the bar area. After seeing various cooks and other staff talking with each other, and looking at cell phones, we had been sat at our table for over 10 minutes and no one had said a word to us, besides the hostess. So, i get up to find the awesome hostess to see if we had a server, and she seems puzzled why our assigned server hadn't spoken to us. The hostess said she would go find of server. 3 minutes after this, the female server stopped by our table and said she is finishing up a guest check, but would be with us. She then gave that couple their ticket, they paid, and she went to the register. 5 minutes after that, she was conversing with a black male employee, and laughing while looking at her phone, and my order had not been taken. it had been almost 30 minutes since we entered the restaurant, and our order still hadn't been taken. As someone who had been looking forward to this meal for so long, as as someone prepared to proudly spend good money, I was disappointed with how I had been treated thus far, but was willing to be understanding. When the female server came to our table for our order after spending 30 minutes already waiting, I was ready to place my order. I asked the server if it was happy hour and if there was a menu. I was not rude, but I directly wanted to get my food. She said there was a happy hour menu, but i needed to be patient. At that moment, I became extremely agitated. I am a customer with good money. I politely waited to be sat, I politely asked where our server was, I patiently waited almost 30 minutes for service. I aksed her point blank "did the third sentence you ever said to us as costomers was to be patient, after the waiting and not knowing what was going on. She said yes. I said a customer, I have waited and given ample amounts of patience to the situation up until that point, but being addressed in such a disrespectful way after my own time was so disrespectful wasted was beyond the pail and uncalled for. The waitress then said she wasn't even suppose to be at work today and she was doing us a favor. I don't know what is going on at this branch with the staff, but as a customer who made a reservation and planned on spending over $200, I was not looking for help. I was looking to go to a business, place a order, and eat it. That is what could have helped us, but this level of rudness was uncalled for. I decided that with such treatment and disrespect, I couldn't imagine the food being worth it's price point. I also thought that if this is the kind of service you receive at this branch, I can't waste anymore time being disrespected and spend over $200. We left our table and went down the street to The Olive Garden, where the service was amazing. Our server was nice, the service was immaculate, and I was happy we could have given over $40 in tips to that service, an amount I increased because it was so refreshing to be treated decently, and since I had this terrible experience at the Memphis branch, I was thankful for not good, but just standard service! I usually love this style dining, my recent experience was not great. The chef did not do any flare, in fact it seemed like he had just recently learned how to hold a knife. It took forever to get drinks, and two of the people at the table never got the white rice they ordered. The waitress presented the bill on an electronic tablet which did not show that there was a 20% gratuity already included. Once you swiped the card and printed out the receipt the included gratuity showed up, so they got double tipped ($30 + $30) for a lousy experience. I'm not a wealthy person, and this was a rare treat for us. Let's not talk about the strange overhead temporary ventilation.... Disappointed. read more

I have been to this Benihana for years. I've been with groups two times during the last month. Service has been horrible, wait time once seated and ordered is extended even with reservations. the cook was good however despite an hour and 45 minute wait for the cook to come out to start. Then it was noted that the on the hibachi grill had not been turned on so Wehad to wait another 15 or 20 minutes for the grill to heat up. One of our party had to leave to catch a flight. Also a young couple with a 3 year old celebrating his birthday also left as he was hungry. Ruining his birthday dinner. We sat at 6:10. It was 8 pm before the cook came out . Then to not be able to start cooking for another 15 to 20 minutes. Looks like when it was taking so long that his food could have been cooked in kitchen and brought out timely. Or at least given him some ice cream! With 2 horrible experiences within the last month it will be a long time before we come again! Will however complement our cook Freddie. He was great! The server was MIA for most of the night and we couldn't even get all of our drink orders in. Tried to eat here last weekend. We had a reservation but knew we were in trouble when we saw all to folks outside and in the lobby waiting to be seated. It was the most chaotic lobby I have been in since covid. Not sure if they just didn't have staff show up but there were empty tables not bussed and a bunch of angry folks whose reservation times were an hour in the past. After waiting a half an hour we saw it was just getting worse, not better. The manager looked like a dear caught in the headlights of an oncoming truck and kept running away from the angry customers hanging around the hostess stand. We ended up bailing to another resteraunt and had a nice dinner. Don't think you could pay me to go back to that location. 1. It was extremely hot, everyone was sweating and using the menus to fan themselves because of the heat in the restaurant. 2. We waited over 2 hours and 30 min for our food, and our main meal still did not come out. We canceled our meal and just left after having our appetizer. 3. The staff was not accommodating or efficient. We told them that we made a reservation for 6:45 and didn't get seated until 7:30. People who did not have a reservation got seated before us and even when we were seated we waited another 30 minutes just to get our drinks. We were also greeted by an attitude by the hostess which also made the experience unenjoyable. I am usually not the type to write a bad review about a restaurant, but I am BEGGING you please do not come here. Not a single minute spent was worth its money.
