We went for my mother's birthday dinner and had the absolute worst service. It took 2 hours before someone came to take our drink order and things went downhill from there. The cook started cooking 2 1/2 hours after we were seated and did not listen to our table regarding food allergies, some of our appetizers came out after the dinner and the cook was not entertaining at all. We paid over $480 for 5 people and had a terrible experience. Will not return and will share our experience with friends and family. read more

I have called more than six (6) times to speak with the manager at Benihana's in Downey regarding the poor service that we received for my grandson's birthday in February. Waited about 3 hours with reservation. We checked in at 8:15 and didn't eat until 11:00. The food wasn't that great either. I think the chef was just very tired being that late at night. Have mixed feelings about benihana. They allow you to make reservations and then set you an hour after your reservation. We made a reservation at 8 o'clock didn't get sit till 9 by the time the cook came our kids were falling asleep wasn't a great experience. That has nothing to do with the cook though. The cook was awesome making jokes putting on a good show. The food was cooked awesome tasted great. The wait staff wasn't very great though once the cook started we didn't see them again we had to beg for another drink or refills. read more

Second, when I got home, I took out my food (24 oz of chicken and shrimp fried rice) from the bag. I understand you had to charge extra $9 for shrimp, but this is not what I expected to have. Shrimps are chopped into small pieces and only can be found on top of each container. They are not even whole shrimps! Regarding chicken, they are chopped into baby size and not many can be found in each container. This is a almost $40 of fried rice and this is very disappointed! The restaurant has improved its services tremendously. From the minute you walk in until you're seated. The host explains to you where the restroom were and where to be mindful of walking for safety reason. Very polite... Our server Brenda was amazing as well. This place is HORRIBLE! Do not go to this location. My wife and I have gone to this location a few times already and the last time was the last. I took my wife for our anniversary and it was one of if not the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. First thing - we had reservations as were seated within about 10 mins of our arrival. So far so good. Once seated we placed our drink order and waited at least 30 mins before our drinks came out. We ordered two drinks from the bar and 2 waters. When the server came back his excuse was that the bar was running a little behind on the drinks. At this point, that wasn't going to ruin our day. Next the cook came out, the she started and he begun to make the food for our table, we started getting our veggies and chicken and that's when I realized that he never gave us our veggie and meat sauces that they normally do before they even start cooking. I brought it up to the cook and his response was "they are still washing the saucers". The table next to us had just sat down and they all had saucers so I asked the cook why they had them but not us, his sarcastic response "well, I'll just steal them from the table for you". I quickly responded that his sarcasm was not necessary nor appreciated. At this point My wife and so were not happy. We didn't say anything else and tried to just enjoy the dinner. We received our veggies, rice and started to get our main course items and that's when I realized that we never received our appetizer shrimps. At this point, I didn't want to engage the rude, sarcastic cook so we waited to see if maybe he would cook them after since, my wife's main course was shrimp. After about 10 mins he was finished with the steaks and everyone at our table had their food. He started cleaning the grille and off he went. We never received our shrimp and my wife didn't receive her main course shrimp. At this point - I asked the server to speak to the manager. The manager came out and after I explained our experience he was in a state of disbelief. He apologized multiple times and comped our meals. Which I believe was the right thing to do and to his credit he handled the situation very well and professional. But it was a bit to late. Our anniversary dinner was ruined.
