The food was good - lobster, steak; and the overall experience was memorable. Mama Kay was awesome with the service, and the cook brought a whole theatrical energy to the experience while being very generous with the portions. The vibe was warm, friendly, and welcoming, which made the atmosphere enjoyable. That said, it ended up being a bit more costly than I expected, partly because I may not have fully realized what I ordered or how quickly the total added up. Still, I had a genuinely enjoyable time. Something felt slightly off that I can't quite put my finger on, but overall, it was still a solid experience and one worth trying [again]. read more

Terrible food, horrible service. Prices are astronomical. This place isn't even the same anymore. It was a waste of money and a waste of time. Beware of the giant service fee that will be on your bill. They say it goes to the house, but you can also leave a tip and I thought absolutely not. Specialty butter is five dollars- are you kidding me? The menu has changed drastically. Management was nice, however people at the table had shellfish allergies and that was not recognized even after they were told. Some guests couldn't even eat their food, and they walked out because of the allergy. Maybe the one in Alpharetta, Georgia, is much better... I can't believe the amount of money we brought in that building...for one star service... dirty plates and forks. The bathroom was a whole nother story. Don't get me started on that. They had a boarded up window to put a air-condition unit in. I felt like I was was just in the hood... read more

I haven't dined inside the restaurant in at least five years and after tonight's visit, I dont ever have to return. Because we waited so long for our chef to arrive I asked to see the manager because our entire party was there and we had two additional people at our table. It was hardly packed at 6pm on a Sunday night and our waitress had told us twice the chef was coming. When the manager came over to the table she brought the security guard with her. I was shocked, whyvdid she need security for a table of seven people to inquire why we had been waiting over an hour for the chef to come to the table. We waited close to an hour and a half after being seated for our chef to come to the table. He was pleasant enough but he made it very clear he was there to cook the food, not entertain us with food tricks while he prepared it. The most he did was make a heart shape with our rice. The air was either not working or it was turned off because everyone seated at our table mentioned how hot it was in the restaurant and the chef had to keep wiping sweat off his face. My 76 year old mother requested to come here for her birthday because she had the $50 birthday certificate. I had called beforehand and Jody informed me that the certificate can be used on Sunday before 430pm. Our reservation was at 6 so we didn't use it. Feeding 5 people came up to $520. I truly didn't have a $500 dining experience however this included three glasses of wine, two martinis, two long Island ice teas and a beer. I imagine they are mostly still open because of nostalgia because its definitely not the service.. The food however was tasty so while we didn't have yhe most entertaining chef, he surely cooked our food to perfection. I can only offer him support in his future endeavors read more

This place needs an overhaul beyond belief!!! NEVER AGAIN. Such a bad experience however the only thing that was good was our chef-Chef James. He was great. Even spelled out our grandsons name in rice since it was his birthday. Our server on the other hand was atrocious!!!!! We were sitting down for 40 min and NOTHING. No "your server will be with you soon" or "what can I get you to drink while you wait?". I had to ask for all of our drinks THREE times, THREE different people. Finally the last person I asked was a manager. The place was HOT!!!! Not good for anyone but especially silly a woman in menopause. They had all kinds of plastic bag venting going on, portable air conditioners and don't get me started on the decor! For the $$$$ they are charging people to eat here the decor should be impressive. The walls have done rinky dink decals pasted to the wall. And then two different display cabinets with various bowls. Wow. Underwhelming to be kind. Our server-sadly didn't get his name-was a young skinny male who was HORRIBLE in so many ways. I didn't want to even tip him and I usually always tip 30%. He didn't deserve a dime. Of course when I had to ask for the bill (because we needed to leave) the first time he ignored me even when I gently touched his shoulder. Second time he said ok. Never came back. I went up to the managers asking them to do it but they refused and said the server does it. I voiced how we had to leave and I've already asked TWICE, they didn't seem to care. Unreal. AND I was FORCED to tip!!!!For sh*tty service?!?!?!!!!!! I understand if an establishment is short on staff it is the MANAGER'S JOB (and there were THREE!!!! Just standing around) to HELP!! Make sure your customers paying $$$$ are happy. It's their job to go to each table occasionally to make sure all is ok. NEVER AGAIN! BUCKHEAD should be embarrassed. I know we were. I came to celebrate my birthday recently and had a pretty good experience. My server was a vet, and little older so she was really great at listening and got everything going smoothly. The food was nice as well, we got the show of flames from our chef and it was still so good after all the years. The Ambience and vibe was still super busy but they did a good job on keeping up with everything and even remembered to bring me cake and ice cream in celebration of my birthday read more

Phew. I don't think that I've had a worse dining experience in years. I haven't been to Benihana in so long. The only reason I ventured there was because my boyfriend wanted to finally take advantage of one of their birthday gift cards, so we decided to head there for lunch with our toddler. We made our 1:45 reservation by just minutes, but we were quickly seated by the young lady at the hostess stand. As our table filled with other guests, we chatted as we waited for a server or chef. We waited. And waited And waited. Around 2:20, a super sweet waitress named Ashley greeted us. She was so nice! She went down the menu options at lightning speed and took our drink & appetizer orders. Later on, I saw Ashley handling two other large parties, even being super fun & engaging with a tambourine celebrating a birthday at another table. So to be clear, Ashley was amazing! The issue came when we continued to sit without even water. Yes, servers put their drink orders in but it's even more than that. Seeing that she seemed to be the only server with multiple tables, that's a bigger issue. As we continued to wait for any attention at all as other tables got drinks, we noticed a woman who was obviously management. She repeatedly visited the POS system which was DIRECTLY next to our table. She continued to glance at our table, seeing that we had no drinks and that I personally looked disgruntled. She continued to walk around the dining room looking over tables but not doing a thing to help an obviously overwhelmed team of servers and chefs. When we finally got her attention, she gave us the "one second" finger, walked away and then finally came back 5 min later. When we voiced our concerns, instead of offering any assistance, apologies, hell, even a carafe of cold water for us as we waited. She walked away, talked to Ashley and kept going. When my boyfriend went to the restroom minutes later, he respectfully addressed her again and she still did nothing. When does someone step in to say, "We're sorry for the delay, can I get you all a drink? Our chefs are a little backed up, we'll get someone over here with your apps." As a former waitress and bartender, as well as one who frequently dines out I understand and appreciate the hard work happening there and that things happen. However, the lack of communication, haste or desire to even help turn around a bad experience proved that this location and management team lost 4 different parties of customers in one swoop. We all ended up leaving our table empty around 2:51 after being beyond fed up with the lack of effort on the manager. I thanked Ashley before leaving as she was the only one to even try to apologize and explain the situation while her manager continued to dodge accountability on our way out. What a disappointing waste of a time. read more

I've been a long-time Benihana customer, but mainly back at home in Houston. This is one of the first times I've come to the Benihana here in Atlanta. I've always sat at the hibachi tables, but this time since I was dining solo and needed to be in/out fairly quick, I decided to sit at the bar. The man running the bar was pretty efficient, despite being busy. He was always moving - cleaning, taking orders, pouring drinks, serving food - he never stopped working hard. Even though my order was taken promptly, the kitchen must've been very backed up because it took a hot hot minute for my food to come out. My steak entree was fantastic - they definitely used a lot of the garlic butter heh - not great for the body, but very tasty. My shrimp on the other hand was quite a let down compared to the steak. The portion size is clearly smaller, and it wasn't as flavorful as the steak. Something I do appreciate about the lunch entrees is that it comes with vegetable fried rice. One small gripe is that Benihana is quite pricey. I think the lunch prices are okay, but I've seen the dinner prices and it's steep. AYCE level prices, but for an entree. Ultimately, the high price point, the fairly slow service, and the disappointing shrimp is what brings my experience down a few stars. read more

I have not been to Benihana in at least 10 years, and I hope that I will not return for another 10 years or more. I went for a friend's birthday, so I had to appease the birthday girl. Nothing has changed, at least for the better, since my last visit. The chefs are less talented than they used to be and the prices have skyrocketed. The only positive change is a tofu/vegetarian entree option. Be ready to pay at least $65 for any meal, unless you get the tofu which is $35. Fried rice will incur an upcharge though. Our chef literally only did one "trick" which was making the heart of rice beat. Very sad show. We had a reservation but still had to wait an exceptionally long time to get the food service started. I gave them 2 vs 1 stars because the food actually tasted good and the portion was large. The menu states "dipping sauces". We were only given yum yum sauce. When I mentioned it, the chef asked if we wanted ginger sauce too. We shouldn't have to ask but pretty sure we should've also gotten teriyaki and/or soy sauce as well. I also mentioned that we didn't get a show, at the end after preparing everyone's meal, then the chef did the onion ring of fire and attempted to do the choo-choo train but the train lost steam before it left the station and definitely fell off the tracks (fell apart) when he tried to move it. Such a disappointing time. read more

We chose Benihana to celebrate my baby's 10th birthday, and overall it was a great experience. Chef JoJo was engaging and talented, and the food was exactly what we hoped for, well-seasoned steak and shrimp, tasty rice, and fresh vegetables cooked perfectly at the table. Our server Denzel was awesome friendly, attentive, and kept things running smoothly once we were seated. The service itself was very good; however, the wait time was long (as ever), so definitely expect that, especially if you're going during peak hours or for a celebration. That said, the lively atmosphere and interactive cooking made it worth it, and my daughter truly enjoyed herself. Man do I wish there was a zero rating! Do not go to this restaurant. If you are suffering from starvation, do not go to this restaurant. If there is a blackout in Buckhead and there is only one restaurant open, Benihana, do not go. You will wait for hours as the wait staff tells you it will only be another "15 minutes" and, when you finally realized they either have no food or no chefs at Benihana, you will leave just as starving as you came. We have been to this place twice now about a year apart with a reservation time that was not honored on either occasion. The first dining experience took about 4.5 hours. Tonight, after waiting about an hour after our reservation and being told "just 15 more minutes." we left just as starving as we came. Judging by all these other reviews, we made the right choice. Subject: Formal Complaint Regarding Unbearable Dining Conditions and Customer Service I arrived with a party of 15 guests to celebrate a very special occasion: a student who was recently awarded a $25,000 scholarship, along with her birthday. We were looking forward to celebrating this significant accomplishment together. Unfortunately, the experience was overshadowed by the unbearable heat inside the restaurant. The temperature in the establishment was so excessive that our drinks were visibly melting, and guests were perspiring through their clothing. The conditions were extremely uncomfortable and, quite frankly, unacceptable for a restaurant of Benihana's reputation and price point. The photograph accompanying this complaint clearly illustrates the conditions we were experiencing, including the excessive condensation on our drinks. I personally spoke with Manager Meisha and Manager Kenny, as well as our chef, Omar, regarding the temperature. I was particularly concerned to learn that this is apparently an ongoing issue. I was told that corporate is aware of the problem and that it occurs every year. Chef/wait staff stated that the restaurant is cold in the winter and hot in the summer. Kenny also told us that we had the option to either stay or leave. While I understand that unforeseen facility issues can occur, telling a party of 15 guests that our only options were to stay or leave was extremely disappointing. We had made plans to celebrate an important milestone for a deserving student, and leaving was not a realistic or reasonable option at that point. We should not have been placed in the position of having to choose between abandoning our celebration or enduring unacceptable dining conditions. Additionally, I was very disappointed by the pricing. Given the prices charged at this Benihana location, the overall experience did not come close to meeting the level of service and comfort that customers should reasonably expect. I have experienced hibachi restaurants in Smyrna and Dallas, Georgia, and the pricing and overall value at those establishments make the cost at Benihana particularly difficult to justify--especially when customers are expected to dine in such uncomfortable conditions. read more

It was my daughter's sweet 16th birthday and it wasn't a good experience for us and her 1st timer friends. The chef did not interact, no tricks, no fun, nothing special. The soups came out cold. My friends and I came here for a birthday dinner, and unfortunately the experience was horrible from the moment we walked in. There were only four of us at the bar, yet the bartender repeatedly said she was "overwhelmed" despite not making drinks for anyone at the bar or in the restaurant. Any time someone asked for a drink, she'd announce that she needed a minute. To make matters worse, we noticed a cluster of fruit flies behind the bar. Once seated, things continued downhill. Our waitress was extremely slow, forgot basic items like straws and utensils, and disappeared for long stretches of time. When she returned, she smelled strongly of smoke, so we assumed she was taking smoke breaks instead of checking on her tables. We ordered steamed rice and didn't receive it until we were nearly finished eating, even after asking both the waitress and the cook multiple times. The cook had a noticeably dry personality...not rude, but very flat and disengaged. He kept self‑proclaiming that he was such a great cook yet later mentioned he had only been cooking for six months, which honestly matched the quality of the food. Every dish across our group was overly salty and drenched in butter, a consistent complaint from all of us. From the time we sat down to the time we finally got our checks, more than two hours had passed. Meanwhile, we watched another family of four come in, be seated, eat, and leave all within the span of our visit. As we were leaving, several workers, including the manager, were clustered at the door chatting, and one employee barely moved out of the way to let us exit. This was supposed to be a birthday celebration, but the service, food, and overall environment were so disappointing that none of us will ever return. We all agreed that absolutely nothing could get us back through those doors again. read more

This was my second time visiting this Benihana location, and unfortunately, the experience was pretty disappointing overall. We had a reservation and were seated pretty much immediately, which was great. We were seated at a hibachi table with another group of five other people, so there were seven of us total. During the meal, one of the people in the group found a hair in their rice . The chef recommended remaking everyone's food, which honestly made sense to me because the rice is prepared together on the hibachi grill. However, the manager seemed to have an issue with remaking everyone's rice and questioned why everyone's rice needed to be remade if only one person found a hair. The problem with that logic is that the chef was preparing everyone's rice together. If one person's portion had a hair in it, there was obviously a possibility that the same issue could affect someone else's rice. Sure enough, another person in that group later found a hair in their rice as well. At that point, that group decided to leave. That situation wasn't really our responsibility, and we still wanted our food, so we stayed. Our chef, Kendall, was nice and did a decent job overall. However, he did forget to prepare our vegetables, which were included with our meals, and our spicy chicken was also forgotten. Because we didn't receive the vegetables, the manager removed the up charge for the fried rice. I'll give him credit for making that adjustment, although considering everything that happened, I feel like the situation could have been handled better. Ultimately, the food preparation and customer service left a lot to be desired. I was already hesitant about returning to this particular location because of an issue I experienced here years ago, and unfortunately, this visit didn't really change my opinion. Kendall was fine and I appreciate him trying to keep things moving, but based on this experience, I wouldn't really recommend this Benihana location. Hopefully management takes situations like this more seriously because food safety concerns, especially finding hair in multiple people's food, should never be brushed off. read more

We went to Benihana with a birthday coupon. The food was really good and the staff was extremely nice, but having said that it was way more expensive than most Japanese steakhouses and I'm not sure what value is added for the extra cost. This restaurant was nice, but did seem somewhat dated. I have no complaints, other than the cost. Even with the birthday coupon, we were out of pocket for about what we would have paid at another Japanese steakhouse. I have never beem to a Benihana before so I figured it was worth a shot. Boy was that a bad decision. The service was not good and neither was the food. They gave our appetizers to other people and charged us for it. They also never came back around to ask if I wanted another drink or refill my water. The food was over salted which is common in mediocre food places. Rather than just use high quality ingredients, they just salt the hell out of things. I couldn't eat my food. It was low quality and super salty. The final bill was over $500 (after I made them remove the appetizers they never gave us) for 5 people with everyone either getting a soda or 1 mixed drink. I must admit I was a little nervous dining here based on the Yelp and Google reviews. We went here for my niece's 13th birthday, and reservations were made for a party of 12. We had to wait for everyone to arrive before we were seated. Our server came over, introduced himself, and said he would be over shortly. He was in the process of closing out a large party. It seemed like the total experience (orders, hibachi chefs preparing food, and checks) took long but we appreciated that we weren't rushed and we were able to sing happy birthday and celebrate with a cake. The server provided us with sushi containers so everyone could take their slice of cake to go. 10 solid stars for Coop....he was Amazing!!   The restaurant is high energy and everyone appeared to have a really good time, it was a very soulful experience. The food show was entertaining, both adults and kids were laughing and smiling. Everyone enjoyed their meal and I was pleased with my spicy hibachi shrimp meal, I had enough for leftovers. However, my sister only received 8 shrimp in her hibachi shrimp meal and thought it was too expensive for the portion she received.   This was a Saturday night and the restaurant was packed.   Self-parking was available in the restaurants private lot. There was armed security inside, so not sure if sometimes there are incidents at this location. I probably wouldn't dine here too late, I would come early when you see more families. Definitely a more younger crowd as time passed.   With that said, this is not a gourmet restaurant, and for the experience and food I think it's at least worth 3 solid stars. It's perfect for a family night, celebration, or night with friends. Our family received great service from each employee we interacted with, and the food was cooked well. They were even mindful about my nephew's seafood allergy.   Thank you for helping make my niece's birthday special. read more

I was not sure if I even had to write a review for this place. Looks like everyone else who has dined here has already shared their similar experience. We waited for 2 and a half hours for our food after placing the order. The food and drinks that we did get were not too bad... Our waitress was really nice and apologetic about the long wait so it was hard to be too upset. The manager came out and apologized and took care of our appetizers. We only ordered one appetizer that was $16 for 6 small pieces of wings... The prices are definitely NOT worth it. We never got our entrees so no comment on that. Title of this story is Chewy chicken Entered establishment at 5:45 for my 6pm reservation. Sat down at 6:00pm. Ordered food and drinks by 6:25pm. Did not get a chef until 7:15pm. Many other tables were handled before us. I think because they now automatically enter fees for chef and kitchen. So if the order is not big you will be sitting there because chefs are looking for the big ticket items. Look at the bottom of your receipts there are kitchen fees. (Lawsuit maybe) Waitress gives off atlanta bad customer service energy so I did not engage with her as much as usual. I don't remember her name that is the same as her waitressing lost in the sauce. After standing around perspiring for 20 minutes, I asked the host what the timing looked like for our table. Half the tables in the dining room were empty. He said about another 30 minutes - they didn't have enough hibachi chefs to work the grills at the tables. So, we all agreed to have dinner at another restaurant... It's a total amateur hour at Benihaha. read more

Just terrible. GHETTO! Please save your money and go some place else. There are so many better hibachi places that will give you so much more food and options for less! First we waited about half an hour to even get our drinks and food ordered. Then after we got our drinks it took about almost an hour for the cook to arrive at our table! When he arrived he had an attitude and was trying to convince the ppl that ordered fried rice (which we have to pay extra for) to just have white rice bc he didn't have the ingredients on his cart and would have to go back to get them. He was unprepared for a few meals that he was preparing. The person who took our order didn't put things on the ticket correctly. My 17$ drink tasted like juice and didn't seem like it had any alcohol in it. The food had barely any flavor or seasoning and was just OK. It was my first time at benihana and I will not be back. You're truly not missing anything. Find a better place with better reviews and I'm sure you will have a way better time with more food and better service. read more

Long story short, don't ignore the reviews, even if it has been a few years. I arrived at 6:50pm to attend a birthday party with a 7:30 pm reservation. We didn't get seated until til after 8pm. Finding a parking spot was terrible for this to be a private lot. I expected better. Nevertheless, it was what it was. If you visit just take heed that it will be better to carpool or you will be waking a few blocks if the parking lot is full. Let's fast forward to finally being seated. The waitress took our drink order. I ordered the hibiscus flower power tea. In red print on the menu it states complimentary refills, which is my prime reason for ordering it. I also ordered a sushi roll, and of course hibachi that was also to come with soup, salad, green tea and ice cream. I purposely added a picture of the online menu but please be warned, it states this on the menu in person as well. Refill on teas are complimentary. The waitress stated that she only gave me a refill because her manager was "looking out for me". There was nothing to look out for me on! This was my 2nd glass of tea in the entire 2-3 hours I was there and we never received the complimentary green tea with the meal or the ice cream. Back to the food, the soup came before the sushi, the salads came seconds before the chef arrived. Because of the position of the tables, our chef and the other chef in front our table were on top each other trying to cook. It looked uncomfortable for them from my point of view. Nevertheless, our chef attempted to make up for poor service and cramped accommodations. The food was decent. I also appreciated the fact that he made note of my food allergy and cooked my food separate and separate sauce from the table. Overall, don't waste your time. This location needs a remodel cause it appeared dated, the parking lot is too small for the volume, service is entirely too slow and wait staff is uniformed. When the soup arrived, I wanted to cancel my sushi because at this point what's the point of an appetizer. And the soup was lukewarm at best. The waitress reply was, these things take a long time. The order in which the food came told me the kitchen was discombobulated. I hate to be complaining but for the price you pay for food, quality should be just a tad bit better. I expected better. But anyhoo, I tipped my server 15% off my tab and wished her the best. Maybe she was newly hired, I'm not sure but there is always room for improvement. If you're in the mood for hibachi from this location, Enjoy! read more

KICK ROCKS!!! DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. Please read the other one and two star reviews here. I wish I had prior to going and having a disappointing experience. First of all, make sure you aren't seated under the A/C vent, because you'll have to tell the unbothered server that the water condensation from it is dripping on you. Then you'll have to wait about 10mins for a worker to get a mop handle/towel to wipe the vent off, while holding your own plate because you don't want the water dripping on your plate. Also, though the website has a lunch menu listed, they don't offer one at the restaurant. My party was told that menu as of 3wks ago was ONLY for take out/delivery services. WTF??!! Shout out to our cook, John. He was professional and pleasant. My coworkers and I came to celebrate three special events in our lives. WE SHOULD HAVE CHOSEN ELSEWHERE. I'm not going to get into the other specifics of why this Benihana's location is subpar, because I noticed from other reviews here that all is going to happen is a janky apology from a manager that's going to tell me go to the corporate website. read more
