I've been going to Ru Sans since I was a college student, so coming back here always brings back good memories. My longtime favorite has been the Japanese Bagel Maki, a fried, decadent masterpiece that I still love. Now I get to enjoy Ru Sans with my mini legacy, which makes each visit even more special. On this visit, I had the miso soup, vegetable tempura, and a Punk Rock and Roll. Everything was delicious and hit the spot. And our server was amazing! I don't remember her name, but she's an African American woman who has been there for at least the past three years. She sometimes wears a belt of rainbow markers on her apron, so I hope she knows exactly who she is. She was attentive, friendly, and made our experience even better. Came here on a rec from friends about good, cheap sushi (I know those two things don't usually go hand in hand except at Public's zenshi special Wednesday's j/k) and was not disappointed. The lunch special is $14.95 and includes a choice of six rolls, a ginger dressing salad, or a miso soup. After tax and tip (mandatory 18%) it came to just under $20 which isn't too bad. It wasn't the best sushi I've ever had but it also was pretty decent and hit the spot. I had a little bit of a hard time distinguishing the flavours with what I ordered from the sushi. The salad was good although there was too much dressing which is not a normal issue I've had ever but this dressing is heavy. Sushi wise I tried the classic ahi, the salmon, the salmon skin (fried, crispy, delicious and maybe my favourite), the shiromi, ceviche, and yellow tail. It was plenty filling. read more

Came here for lunch and spent about 25 on Kyrah goon steamed dumpling and a full sushi roll. Pricing isn't bad. It is in the Edgewood shopping plaza off Moreland Avenue. It was pretty quiet when I went. There was only two other tables. There were two servers one of the servers that took my table was on her phone in the back so when I was ready to go, it did take a little while to check out. However, that was really the only deterrent. I didn't experience any alcohol options as I came and left quickly. They do have a happy hour between 3 to 8 PM that the server did mention. I'll probably come back the next time. I'm craving sushi for lunch or I'm interested in trying the teriyaki bowls the table next to me ordered it and it looked really good. read more

One the best asian restaurants in the city, this have a Japanese ambience great for family and friends, located at the 2nd floor, easy access from the parking, have stairs and elevator as well. I have been going to Ru Sans for almost 20 years; it's where I first learned to eat sushi. This is definitely a neighborhood restaurant and makes no qualms about being a casual spot. In a city full of fancy sushi, Ru Sans is the delicious, casual standard. It's not fancy, nor is it trying to be. However, you can always bet on the fish being fresh because the place is always busy... There's not enough time for the fish to sit and get old. In addition to standard options on the dollar menu, the Japanese noodles and tempura are delicious. This is a great place to go for a post workout sushi fix. I grabbed Ru Sans to go, after my tennis match the other day, as I was in the area. I used to come to Ru Sans all the time when I was in college. Most of those times I ate at the restaurant too, and a few times I had done take out. I decided to check it out again after quite some time. I got the miso soup, spicy chicken roll MAKI, garlic chili salmon MAKI, chicken yakitori, sesame chicken tempura, and a salad with a ginger dressing. The miso soup and salad was nothing special. Just your run of the mill miso soup and salad with ginger dressing that you would get anywhere else. The sesame chicken tempura was okay, but it was covered with way too many sesame seeds, I didn't know it was going to be covered all the way like that. The chicken yakitori was good, way better than the sesame chicken tempura. The spicy chicken roll has been my go to order for YEARS. It's MAKI, which means it comes in 3 pieces, so I got 3 orders. For some reason though, it didn't taste as good as it used too. Seems like the quality has just gone really downhill. The garlic chili salmon was whatever too. Nothing special there. The quality of the fish has really taken a downward spike over the last few years, it's definitely not what it used to be. The menu is still as big as it used to be, but the prices have definitely gone up. I probably wouldn't come back here again unfortunately. I know they do have a Buckhead location still, so that one might be better? I also haven't been to that one in years either, so I am unsure. The Monroe Piedmont one they used to have, closed down permanently. There are plenty of other places in the city that have good sushi, so definitely do some research first before coming here. read more

I've been eating here since I was a kid. Ru sans was my intro to Sushi. Whenever my boyfriend craves sushi, we come here. Today was no different. I came by for some takeout to bring home for us to eat and watch the House of Dragons season 2 premiere together. This was my first time noticing the remodel they did. The manager alerted me that they did the remodel two years ago. I guess I never noticed because I usually get my food Togo. This time, I sat and waited at the bar. It took roughly 15 minutes. I got 2 California rolls, 2 teriyaki tuna rolls, 2 orders of bacon wrapped scallops, 2 orders of shrimp tempura. Their food is pretty much a la Carte so it can get expensive if you're not careful. My total came out to $44.xx. Still place is pretty much a staple in my house so I'll definitely be back. read more

I've been coming here for sushi since 2009. I stick to my usual favorites whenever I come. I miss eating at the bar only because of the cucumber salad that I got when sitting at the bar. They have updated the inside post Covid and also have increased the prices. They also automatically add 18% gratuity to your total. I highly recommend visiting her. This is a pretty decent place for sushi. Customer service was great, and our food didn't take too long to arrive. We ordered Edamame, Crab Rangoon, Hamachi Kama, Garlic Chili Yellowtail Maki, Spicy Tuna Tempura Maki, and the Salmon Quartet. The Crab Rangoon was very tasty, despite containing so much cream cheese. My other favorites during dinner were the Hamachi Kama and the Garlic Chili Yellowtail Maki. They both were bursting with so many flavors and the fish tasted fresh! My least favorite was the Spicy Tuna Tempura Maki. The fried rice made it difficult to chew the sushi. The Salmon Quartet included Salmon, Seared Salmon, Lomi Lomi Salmon, and Spicy Aioli Tuna Vinaigrette. For what it is, cheap sushi it is four stars. Then as I wrote the review I had less positive to say so I had to give it three stars. My friends would give it four and are the only reason I still come here. If I was comparing it to the regular sushi restaurants I visit, then it is no question three or two stars because of the lower quality of fish. The service is hit or miss. Sometimes the servers are attentive and sometimes you feel forgotten. The atmosphere is friendly and energetic. As for the food I start with tempura anything is good, but the salmon is my favorite. I used to eat here often. However my experience recently has deterred me from this establishment. The new manager is very unprofessional, (the young lady with glasses); another server took my order over the phone and placed it incorrectly. When I picked my order up and brought it back inside for it to be remade, I was told that I would not be refunded for my first order because it was my fault the order was incorrect, which was mind-boggling to me because, as I said, I eat here frequently and I've never been through this type of poor customer service. The food here was decent! I went for the first time the other day and I got a Chicken Teriyaki plate. I wish that the chicken was cut smaller. It comes out cut like a cutlet. Not a big deal, but I prefer the smaller pieces. The chicken did not reheat well at all, and it wasn't that great served fresh either. I think if I go back here i'll try something else. The star of the show for me was really the fried rice. It was flavorful, which was a shock for me considering it was just the fried rice , no vegetables in it or anything. We were sat pretty quickly at this establishment, which was cool. The server was very nice and honest about what to get or not to get on the menu. However, a lot of our food took sort of long to come out and the server also forgot to put in something with ordered. She did offer to compensate with a complimentary dessert! I think this place is good for casual and inexpensive "hibachi" style food. I think i'd come back. I just need to find the menu items that are the stars lol! Menu prices have reflected inflation. No longer the cheap place for sushi. They have gotten rid of sushi buffet. It no longer exist.. Do not order the miso soup. I ended up ordering a large and it came with some noodles. Very weird because a miso would just be tofu and seaweed. All I got was noodles and water. Very tasteless and bland. The sushi is mediocre if you're going to increase the price, match your sushi standard with other nearby sushi restaurants. My rock n roll was covered in leathery eel sauce, hardly any eel. The spider roll taste like carrots and fishy flavor. There is a 18% service charge due to covid. Covid has ended its been 2 years. If a business is so concerned about covid they should just do take out. It's time to move forward and not use covid as an excuse to put an 18% service charge. I ordered on Uber eats. I normally always get the Katsu California roll. This one time the avocado was extremely brown and when I called the restaurant to tell them that they gave me this brown avocado in my sushi they tried to blame it on the fact that the roll is fried. I've gotten this roll at least five times before and the sushi has never came with a brown avocado. I'm talking about brown all the way through. My son and I came for an early dinner on a Monday around 4 pm. Alecia was our server and was super polite and efficient. We were in the area since I needed to pick up a birthday dessert from Cinnaholic. We ordered the fried pork gyoza which has six in the serving as an appetizer. It is also available as a vegetable gyoza and steamed. These were tasty! My son ordered Rainbow roll and shrimp tempura roll which he liked. I ordered a side of fried rice which reminded me of my grandmother's who grew up in Taiwan when Japan controlled it before WWII. This fried rice is legitimate. I also liked the beautiful vegetable decorations on each plate which are edible. I was the only Asian person at the restaurant other than the staff, but I am telling you, this Japanese food is authentic. And with authentic Japanese food, expect it not to be cheap. I have made a family out of Ru Sans. I have come to the same Ru Sans since I was 20, and now that I'm 31, nothing here has changed when it's come to service and comfortability. It's perfection. I always get a friendly host that makes me smile and even talks to me about my life which has caused me to just love this spot. I have tried LITERALLY every drink and every roll and I can say that in between the Kiwi Ladykiller to the Tuna and Sea Bass Mai Tai. The menu has me coming back to relive nostalgia. I'm not sure how this place only has three stars, it is very good. They give you huge portions for a very good price. The spicy Yakiudon was so delicious and I loved the sauce. It wasn't very spicy but it still had a really good flavor. I thought the udon was cooked perfectly and the veggies were also really nice. The fire cracker maki was also really good and had a nice crunch but you could still taste the fish which tasted really nice and wasn't too fishy. But I like sake so what can I say. They have a huge sake selection, along with beer and wine. And the prices are ridiculous low. RESTAURANT: The interior is self isn't really nothing to look at. No love was put into the interior of this place, its like they woke one day and decided a restaurant was how they would make money. Ru San does offer outdoor seating options, definitely a plus if your looking for more of intimate setting. The restaurant isn't anywhere fancy so I would not suggest a first date here. This place is more of a "after work I'm to exhausted to cook" establishment. SERVICE: Nonetheless the service here is amazing. The staff is very friendly, extremely knowledgeable on the menu. They are definitely needed energy to bring a cold, stale restaurant like this one to life. Ana was absolutely amazing! Overall this is an okay place. I wonder why I haven't ever visited this place but noticed it for years. This day I allowed hunger to get the best of me and stopped in. The spring rolls were obviously burnt and the waitress choose to argue me down, instead of offering to fix it. Which disappointed my experience and the $.50 eel, sauce (no pictured) tasted like crap. It's been years since I've had Ru Sans and with the taste for sushi and being in the Edgewood Area I figured I'd try this particular location out. The best part about eating out for lunch on a weekday is that most places aren't normally as busy so it didn't take long to be seated or have my order taken. The waitress was amazing and polite. She even gave me some Miso Soup as an appetizer on the house. I had never had Miso Soup but after having theirs I'm a fan and I'll definitely be having more of it in my future. It's a basically made up of dashi stock, soybean, seal salt and rice koji. It's extremely flavorful. They typically have lunch specials around noon til about 2 so I had just missed it however, they have tons of discounted sushi rolls on their menu ranging from $1-$6. I decided to try 1 Southern Hospitality Roll $9.95 ( 5 big pieces with crispy oyster and spinach), 2 Spicy Chicken Rolls $1.75 ( 3 pieces rolled grill chicken with spicy tuna sauce), & 3 Crispy Calamari Rolls $ 2.75 (3 pieces seasoned fried calamari roll). Didn't take long (sushi never does) for my waitress to bring my entree out (maybe 5-7mins) and I'll admit out of all 3, the Crispy Calamari Roll was my fav followed by the Spicy Chicken Roll. I ate all of them lol but the Calamari Roll was the best. From a healthy standpoint the Southern Hospitality would be recommended because it has the spinach which takes over the entire roll. There was some oyster taste but you literally taste mainly spinach which isn't a bad thing if you like spinach. The Spicy Chicken Roll was good but the tuna sauce on top was the icing on the cake for me. The tuna sauce does give the chicken a somewhat cold taste but it's still good overall. The Crispy Calamari Roll was good from inside out. The crispy taste of the calamari and its seasoning was enough for me but when you did it in the spicy mayo, perfect 10/10. Lol Ru Sans is a good spot for a chill date, solo outing or even a quick meal with a friend. Good space inside and there's more than enough parking in the parking lot but just know it's not the only place there so it can be packed in that initial parking area but there's still plenty of room. I'll definitely be back to try a few other rolls as well as some other soups. read more

My Wife and I have been customers of RuSan's Edgewood for over 10 years, sorry to say we won't be back. I guess you can strike this one up to "Covid" and never recovering from it. #1 Ru San used to be a Sushi "Bar" and they have a nice one, but you can't sit at it and eat . We used to like sitting at the bar because the Sushi preparers would talk and joke with you. Ru San management stopped this during Covid. #2 When management automatically adds 15% Tip to your total bill it kinda has an effect on how well the waitress take's care of the table. They are getting paid no matter what! I think it would be smarter business if you put a big sign at the door "NO TIPPING all inclusive dining" then just mark the food up accordingly to cover paying your servers. #3 The food quality and serving size has shrunk but prices raised. #4 the Total fun atomsphere of the place is "Gone" its dull and out dated. Just thought I'd vent because we are not happy about loosing Ru San's as a place we looked forward to eating at. It was our special night out place to go. read more

BF took us here for a quick lunch. Food: Definitely subpar. If you're looking for super fresh sushi and a pretty establishment, this isn't it. If you want some good drinks and cheap sushi with some 90s to 2000 hits playing while you eat, make your way here! Our sushi wasn't anything to run home about. Apparently this place has a reputation of being a sushi spot you go to if you just want a deal. Can't complain about diarrhea either. You pay for what you pay for, essentially. Customer service: The staff is okay. I feel that the friendliness is not organic, but at least they pretend. Everything we asked for was brought over, so not many complaints from me regarding customer service. Drinks: Delish! If I come back for anything, it'll only be for these drinks and maybe some edamames. Note: The location is prime if you need to shop at Lowe's or anything surrounding it.
