    Hallway filled with comfy couches.
Looking Out For The City ..

Private sole hotel brand. I arrived in for an early check in and I found that this hotel was located in a residential part of the city. There are not too many restaurants, if any, lots of houses, a church, etc. The entrance is only on one side. If one were to drive in according to the "Maps" app, it will take you to the one road (this is the only road to access Benham). Trust me, I tried the road next to it thinking that was a way to the back parking lot and I was already on someone's property (thinking I was going to get threatened or shot) Anyway, the entrance on the one road that the "MAPS" app leaves you on is on the left and there are four spots for registration only parking. The rest are behind the hotel, which one will have to take what looks like an impassable entrance to get there. This needs to be fixed because it is a liability on the hotel if a customer scratches their car against the wall, on the turn. Issues with room: Some other things I noticed were that the door to the hotel room reflexes to closed, which means you need to push it a bit more than a usual hotel door and while carrying luggage in, it could become an issue. There were a lack of outlets I found in the room. The outlets I did find were in inconvenient places like near the t.v., at ground level and near the sink. One will not be able to work on their laptop in this kind of setup. There is no elevator in this place. One will have to carry their luggage up the stairs. The walls are paper thin. I could hear a gal and guy next door to my room. I could not hear what they were actual saying, BUT could here them speaking something. From the atmosphere, I love the couches in the hallway. I had a chance to sit in one of the comfy chairs. Overall, the concept of a schoolhouse is great, but it needs to be more modernized in terms of hotel standards (elevator, widened entrance to the back parking lot.) Requested items: If you need an iron and iron board, you will have to request this at the registration desk (on your left when you enter this hotel). If you want to inquire about complimentary snacks, you will have to request this. They do have free snacks and so one can skip the vending machines. I ended up spending a $1 because I thought that was all they had. They also have a carbonated beverage vending machine as well (all I survived on while here was Great Value Glacier Ranch chips, Yoplait yogurt, water, and trail mix for dinner. In the morning, I ate Cinnamon Toast Crunch in an out of a to go container and a honeybun.) Edit: I checked on my cell phone and yes, there are literally no restaurants close to this place (everything is actually in the neighboring city of Cumberland, KY). Bathroom standards: Good ply toilet paper. Thick. Soft, fluffy towels. But bathroom fan is loud and makes grinding noises (room 1942). Suggestions: This hotel could use a business center for guests. And a fun comment...... This hotel is interesting, an old school house turn hotel. I am not sure why they do not have THOSE kind of conventions held here. You know those...non-vanilla relationship ones....SCHOOL HOUSE. ;)

I really didn't know what to expect when booking this Inn. This was really the only hotel to stay in the immediate area. My Aunts and Uncles recommended it to us. My Dad was raised in the area and wanted to take my sister, neice and I to visit. We stayed for 2 nights. I really wanted to give BSI a 5 star rating since this was the actual school my Grandmother attended. I was born in the hospital next door so there's a lot of history here. My Great Grand father and Grand father both worked in the coal mines in Lynch. The outside entrance was nicely decorated with Halloween and Fall decorations. The building appeared to be in great shape from the outside. I would agree with the other reviewers it was a little annoying that nobody was in the little check in area when we arrived. We quickly found someone because we are impatient city people :-) They did have a telephone number posted to call if you needed immediate help. The WiFi was free and didn't require a password. That helped because I had little cell service. They let us check in an hour early which was nice. There's no elevator which was mentioned to us when we booked. Also they didn't have a luggage cart to load our luggage on but the gentlemen on staff helped us carry our bags upstairs. There was also a cute little gift shop downstairs. My sister bought a few things. We booked 3 rooms and each was a little different. My parents's room was a little bigger than mine and had a small table with chairs. My room had a couch. Each room had a small refrigerator. The walls weren't very insulated so you could hear people talking and walking in the halls. Sometimes I would wake up and wonder if I was hearing ghosts walking the halls :-) We were there the weekend before Halloween. They could use some brighter lighting in the hallways. It is quite dark and does feel a little depressing. We ate dinner in the little restaurant and it was fine. I got the pork stuffed baked potato and my Mom got the potato soup. My Dad got the fried bologna sandwich. We all thought our food was good. Seems they don't really make things fresh there and mostly have pre-made frozen foods. There's only one grocery store nearby so I'm guessing fresh foods are expensive. We ate at a few other places in town and the B.S.I. was the nicest restaurant in town. I was a little surprised that the employees didn't seem to take any interest or give us any of the hospitality that you would expect from a small town Inn. It was really strange and disappointing. Also the breakfast was ok. Would be nice if they had a few fresh items. Everything was mostly packets of oatmeal ,grits , muffins etc. Maybe some fresh eggs and biscuits with gravy would be a nice touch. I'm celiac but I know my family was kinda expecting that for an Inn. I really want this place succeed. I think they could make a few adjustments and it would be really great. I guess these homey places are growing on me. I would stay here again. Our rates were $100 a night.

take a drive into the hills of Kentucky and you will find an old, forgotten mining town. But the community that lives there has not forgotten it. Nestled on a terraced land is a school that has been converted into an Inn. I came upon this inn and gasped in awe at the height of the ceiling. 'My, my,' I told my husband, 'the lord is in this place.' He smiled and nodded. He understood the powerful feeling of a place steeped in history. He went on to tell me how trees talk to one another and recognize their own seedlings. It really is incredible what God has made to sustain us in life, including the coal mines of a forgotten town laced with dust and smoke. God is all about movement, change and movement of His people. Just as a tree grows and provides a home for new life to take root, Benham offers so much to so many in such a seemingly small town. This inn is a relic of the past, but it is the promise of a future.

Inside of the buffet/fancy wedding reception room

Staying here for the week during a mission trip. Rooms are always nice and clean and there is a good solid wifi connection. On another note my group and I just had the Sunday lunch buffet here at the Inn. Very tasty food and fantastic atmosphere. It reminded me of a classy wedding reception. Excellent experience and I would recommend it to anyone who is around on a Sunday at lunchtime. Bring your appetite!

Despite all the excellent reviews on this hotel, my experience was not good. If the Fairfield Inn…read moredid not have some good qualities, I would have given it a one to two star rating. For first time visits to this hotel, I strongly encourage people to closely survey their room and bathroom before settling in for the night. So the hotel seemed stellar at first UNTIL I used the shower in my room. The hotel had great reviews, so I did not think I would have a problem. The front desk check in area and our room were clean & very appealing. I loved the selection of tv shows and movies on our television. We had checked in for a late night stay & just wanted to relax before we traveled out early in the morning. Everything seemed ideal until I took a shower in the morning. I noticed there was human hair from other people in the front and back of my shower area. One was a long light brown hair in the front upper area of the shower stall. One was a short black hair on upper back of the shower wall. I was mortified that housekeeping didn't notice this immediately. It made me wonder if they cleaned the bathroom at all after the former guest before us left. Despite all the wonderful amenities, the unsanitary condition of our bathroom made me dock 2 stars from a 5 star rating. It makes me want to thoroughly survey any room we get at any hotel regardless of the hotel having an excellent rating especially this hotel. Breakfast here was exceptional with many options EXCEPT they started shutting down earlier than the 10 AM closing time & there was NO COFFEE available at 9:30 AM. My husband had to wait for them to make a fresh batch. Despite the great breakfast, I got sick from something I ate on the breakfast provided there which is very rare. I never get sick from food I eat. I wanted to give a one star rating to this hotel yet I decided to be kind yet fair.

Great price and comfy beds with streaming your favorite movies on Netflix…read more Everything was great except a hair in the shower and there was quite a mess waking up at 9:30am to get breakfast. Both coffees were empty and no creamer. We had to ask for more coffee and then ask for creamer. The breakfast caused my wife to get sick, which caused us to make an additional stop to get meds. Some greats and some work to be done. Stay here on a budget but hope for the best on quality. How does the coffee run dry at 9:45am? People are still waking up still. I know that breakfast closes at 10:00am, but some set there alarms to eat something and get a coffee.

Back in the area for business…read more Making a reservation was easy and when I got here, it was confirmed that the lady on the phone left detailed notes for anyone after her because of an exemption they give with certain employers on room rates. The issue though was that the elevator was out of use (ended up finding out it was caused by a bad capacitor caused by a lightning strike, a maintenance individual coming in to replace it and not doing it, and then an emergency switch catastrophic failure), but this was disclosed as I was making my reservation on the phone. I was able to get a king suite (picture 39 of 63 on this Yelp entry) just because the rest of the rooms were sold out on the first floor. From my last review, one item I never elaborated on was the cable. Yes, this hotel does have History, Discovery, and Travel channels. In fact, I think they maxed out the tiers on whomever their cable provider is. 10/14/2025 GEEZUS! They are innovative with their breakfast?! I went down to find either country fried steak or a chicken patty along with sausage patties and hash browns in the breakfast area. Whatever it was, it was so good (the meat inside was white, so probably chicken). This is definitely a nice change from just having sausage or bacon like at other hotels I have stayed at. By introducing a meat with breading, it is further enhanced by the sausage gravy that this hotel serves for its biscuits and gravy! One could even make waffles and you get? Chicken and waffles! Suggestion: If the owner of this hotel reads this review, consider putting out cold cut salami or ham slices and a cheese plate. Apparently, all the top tier hotels in Europe do that. 10/15 The breakfast was still the same, with all the same meats, baked goods, etc. I ended up getting a waffle and trying it with the chicken patty and it was great. CHICKEN AND WAFFLES! Good with syrup and ketchup as well. The only issue with dining was just that this hotel does not keep any caffeinated and decaffeinated teas. All in all, it was a good stay. I just wish their elevator was working.

PROS: One of the best things about this hotel is it's set way back from the main road, so it's quiet. We were on a 3 week trip and I had the best sleep of the trip here. They also have a 'Quiet After 10pm' sign in the lobby to remind people to be quiet. The only thing we heard at night was a dog barking somewhere, but it wasn't that bothersome for very long. Typical hotel complimentary breakfast buffet including bananas, cold cereals, oatmeal, hot items, tea, coffee, juices, etc. Spacious breakfast seating area with TVs on the wall as well as a patio area. Complimentary parking in spacious outdoor, uncovered lot. Good shower pressure. Well maintained, clean. We saw someone picking up trash outside. Hairdryer, microwave, fridge, iron/board and safe in the room. Shampoo, soap and conditioner mini toiletries. CONS: VERY noisy fan in the bathroom. It was annoying! The hangers are the kind without hooks. Hate those! Lumpy pillows. Our GPS lead us astray to the hotel, so be mindful of that. Dining note: We ate at Ike's Pizza in downtown Middlesboro. I recommend it. Overall, a decent stay. I would recommend staying here if you're on a budget. Was this review helpful?
