New place in NoLibs for Indian street food. It is all vegan or vegetarian but the kiosk menu is very hard to know which is vegan. We got 2 items that were very good. Bigger portions than a normal street food since the prices are higher than what would think for a chaat. It was all very good tho!

Absolutely delicious chaat! Full of flavor, nutritious, and such a nice change from the useful neighborhood offerings. Loved the bhel puri and chow chow bath the most, and the ghee podi idly were also great. Service was very friendly, and the place is comfortable for dine in or takeout.

FANTASTIC experience -- just go!…read more The Lamb Fahsah was hearty and flavorful, served in a hot metal bowl with just the right proportions of shredded meat, veggies, and broth. Plus it came with FRESH pita bread HOT out of the oven -- slightly crisp outside, hot gooey inside. (Honestly, I think their pita texture and flavor surpassed a certain high-end Lebanese restaurant in Fishtown...) Decor is a tasteful modern pastiche of traditional middle eastern motifs. Overall vibe is relaxed, clean, and spacious. The only downside was having to pick just one thing from the menu, though staff were happy to help. One note: I think they're still getting off the ground, and I stood next to the "wait to be seated" sign for 5 minutes before getting frustrated and walking up to the bar guy. He was SUPER apologetic, as was my waiter, and they made it up to me with a free cup of chai tea -- plus a free refill at the end! On the chai tea: rich and fragrant spices, definitely spoiled me for the standard coffee shop version.

My recent first visit to Malooga was excellent. The service was admittedly unremarkable, but some…read moregrace should probably be extended there - it was a Sunday, the day after Valentine's Day, and it was packed. During my wife's and my time there, they never had an empty table that wasn't being quickly cleared for a waiting party, and we heard people assigned considerable waits when they tried to walk in. I give the benefit of the doubt that the hectic, holiday-adjacent nature of the day we went in contributed to us not receiving mugs for the tea pot we ordered or some of the longer waits between waitstaff visits. But the food and atmosphere? Through the roof. We were fortunate enough to have scored the coveted front window seating section, a luxuriously spacious and cushioned special seating option that only one party at a time can enjoy (all other seats are traditional chair-and-table arrangements), so we were especially high on the subject of atmosphere, but even had we not secured the ideal seating, I would have enjoyed the chill, evocative music coming from the restaurant's speakers. The food was the main event, of course, and it delivered. We started simple, with a hummus app. The humus was great and the flatbread really stood out - ideal density, great, light crispness to the outside, soft but at no risk of being too chewy or doughy on the inside. I ordered the salmon dish, which arrived in a big, black sizzling iron bowl. The salmon and tender little potato chunks were in a shakshuka-like red sauce and paired excellently with the plate of rice, fresh raisins, garlic slivers, and carrot bits that accompanied it. I honestly don't love raisins, but this was clearly a "have faith in the recipe" situation and I really enjoyed when they would assert themselves a bit against the sauce. My wife ordered a falafel salad platter, which she was kind enough to let me try; best falafel I've eaten in a good number of years, and she agreed (which means even more than my endorsement, since she falafel much more frequently than I do). I've eagerly recommended Malooga to friends and associates since and can't wait to get back and order some lamb!

It felt like the perfect chance to try some dishes we don't usually order while getting a good deal. Overall, the Restaurant Week menu was a solid value (up to $18 worth of extra food). While the dishes we ordered didn't quite beat our usual favorites, everything was still tasty. The restaurant itself is clean and well ventilated. It's also baby-friendly--they have high chairs, and although it can get a bit loud when busy, our little one didn't seem to mind at all. Big bonus points for convenient onsite parking with validation. It was freezing out, so being able to park and walk right in was a huge plus. The staff were very professional. One dish came out undercooked, and our server fixed it immediately. The Restaurant Week drink specials were just okay--I'd probably skip those next time. Since Thanal is already a regular in our takeout rotation, we'll definitely be ordering again soon. I'd also happily dine in again during the next Restaurant Week.

Overall Ratings Atmosphere - 5/5 Service - 5/5 Food - 4/5 Parking - Street Parking Atmosphere - The restaurant is on the smaller side, but they did a great job maximizing the space they have. The ambiance and decorations are a very nice touch, and everything feels clean and well kept. Service - Even though we came on a Friday without a reservation, they were able to seat us within 20 minutes, which we really appreciated. Overall, the service was excellent. What We Ordered - Plain Paratha - which was not as good as the paratha I have had at other restaurants Saag Paneer - which was very good Lamb Karahi - which was also very good Final Thoughts - I would definitely come back if we are in the area again to try more items from the menu.

After craving for Tandoori chicken, I came here with a group of friends for an early dinner today…read more I must say that the dish was nothing short of amazing since the piping hot chicken pieces served on the sizzling plate was exactly what I wanted. The other dishes our table also ordered include Gobi Manchurian, Chapati Murg Tikk, Murg Adraki, garlic naan, onion naan, butter naan, butter chicken, Malai kofta, and Lachha Paratha. While I loved everything, butter chicken was my favorite. Butter naan was also melt-in-your-mouth good, and I simply couldn't get enough of it. What also tops the experience overall was the Mango Lassi drink. For some reason, I never got to try this drink until today. At the first sip, I couldn't believe how good it was. I soooo loved this slightly sweet, tangy, and aromatically wonderful mango drink so much that I must have more of it at the next chance I get. Service here is no frills yet adequate and professional. Our server was helpful in catering to our needy requests (we had to return butter chicken back initially since it was too spicy), and he definitely ran the show solo as he's the only one who manned the dining area while we were there with another table today. Since the place is a bit small and cozy, I liked that it provided an intimate setting for a get-together with friends or family. I wouldn't mind returning to Saffron to try out more of their other dishes soon.
