SOS-Don't go! I never post reviews, so you can imagine how upsetting this situation was for me. I had a very disappointing experience with Amanda. My appointment had already been rescheduled from 10:00 to 11:15, and then she was still late coming in. I had driven an hour for this eyebrow appointment after 6 months of completing five sessions of laser removal and $500 later. While mapping my eyebrows, she stopped to talk to a technician next to me about a biblical/scripture story for at least eight minutes. I felt that discussing religion in a professional setting--especially when the client is essentially stuck in the chair--was inappropriate, and quite frankly, I just didn't want to hear it. I politely told her it was making me uncomfortable and anxious, and that I wanted to focus on finishing my brows. Instead of acknowledging my request, she told me she could not continue because SHE felt anxious, and then refused to do my brows, saying she would refund my money. This was especially frustrating because I had already been told she was moving and only available once a month, which made getting this appointment completed all the more important. I feel her actions were unprofessional and inconsiderate toward a client who had invested significant time, money, effort, and travel. A simple "I'm sorry, no problem" would have gone a long way in resolving the situation. For context, as soon as my friend heard Amanda was moving, she scheduled with someone else--and in hindsight, I wish I had done the same. She refused to reschedule my appointment and left me with NO BROWS. Very unethical. I should have read the reviews first-I am not the only one with issues with Beneath The Surface. read more

I had my eyebrows done by Brandi Hill at BSS Studio and she did a fantastic job! I was a little apprehensive but Brandi and Amanda really put me at ease because they took time to really listen to what I wanted and work with me for the best outcome. I would recommend this place to anyone considering microblading or other services from them. The salon is very clean and open with a lovely view. Don't hesitate to check this place out! read more

Staff is super friendly. Lilia did an amazing job on my eyebrows. She really took her time with me and made sure I was comfortable during the entire process. She does amazing work. I couldn't be happier with the result. She took the time to explain every step that I was going to be going through so that I wouldn't mess up my end result. She was very detailed. Worst experience with a salon ever. The appointment was really late to start, the salon workers talked throughout and gossiped about the owners mother and the numbing material wasn't left on enough to make it less painful. The result wasn't good and when I reported the problem it was like a battle. With accusations being slung at me that I was the reason the work was poor. The owner is combative and will probably write some response to this instead of reflecting and realizing she doesn't have to attack everyone who doesn't think the work that was performed was perfect. ...... hahaha as expected a combative rebuttal from the owner who believes they are prefect and doesn't listen to feedback on their work. 1. You were late by over 20 mins because you told me and your co workers you were working out. 2. You talked about how rude your mother was at a dinner. Then laughed and said it was ok because the person next to you was your sister in law and she was used to her. Either way not professional! 3. You took photos with my eyes shut and never with my eyes open. They were clearly not symmetrical and you acknowledged this when I sent you the open eyed photos and then started to blame other reasons. I had to have them redone by another professional who did measure them and get them right and I had zero pain!! 4. You blamed Botox which I have never had.... The covid vaccine which I had done months prior and other things. Why would I come to see someone who is so aggressive! And yes you did give me anxiety which you couldn't care less about. 5. It's amazing how if it was muscle related that when it was corrected it's stayed beautifully symmetrical. The salon laughed at the excuses you provided and did a perfect job. Never had Botox, never had filler etc which is quite frankly clear given all my wrinkles! 6. And yes you are combative when you send messages before 7am because I posted a review about the terrible service I received. Blocking!!!! Just learn from this. When it doesn't go well act like you want to fix it and don't attack the customer . Please go ahead and send some other crazy aggressive rebuttal instead of just acknowledging it didn't work out. .....and still MORE from the owner! Passive aggressive combativeness!! ..... now I couldn't be satisfied! Yes you could have satisfied me by performing even eyebrows without pain (which I found out when I had corrected was not part of the process!) not being aggressive when it went wrong, acknowledging the mistake, inviting me to come back without accusing me of all kinds of things to cause the problem, acknowledge the anxiety that was created and maybe I would have gelt comfortable to come back to you or refunded me. The photos with my eyes open from day one show how uneven they were......not caused by Botox, the covid vaccine and all the other pathetic excuses you made, but caused by the person who performed the work. read more

RoseAnne immediately puts you at ease and explains everything she does in her hydrafacials. She is warm and welcoming and I truly feel like I'm doing something important for my skin when I see her. She is well-versed in skin and skincare and she led me to my all-time favorite moisturizer. I schedule my facials far in advance now and look forward to these appointments. Such a treat! Amanda is a true artist. I'm extremely picky, and also a licensed esthetician, and I chose her because her work looked extremely natural and beautifully proportioned on line. I was not disappointed!!! She truly listened to what I was looking for in my brow shape and we had a really wonderful conversation throughout the procedure. The process itself is lengthy and a bit painful but the results are absolutely 100 percent worth it. I was very pleased that she listened and changed the wax pencil outline of my brows at my request, and was happy to oblige when I wanted them a bit thinner in the middle and the arch set apart a bit further. Her technique is exquisite, her summer pricing was impossible to beat, and I'm so glad I got the "shading" done as well, because now my brows look amazing and truly 3-D. I have never ever ever felt ZERO regret spending a few hundred dollars. You always have a little buyer's remorse, right? Not with this! I cannot adequately express how glad I am I did. I almost never wear makeup anymore because the definition of my brows makes me feel more confident and makes all my natural features stand out. I thought about getting my brows microbladed for YEARS. On 5/18/20 I scheduled with Beneath The Surface Skin Studio. I was searching places online and found that you could schedule yourself on their website for an appointment! I scheduled myself for that following week. I knew that a lot of places were shut down due to COVID-19, but not knowing all of the services they provided and that they let me schedule online with one of their openings I figured I got lucky and they were open for business. I knew that a 25% non refundable deposit was needed and that if "I" needed to reschedule then I could still use that deposit towards another date/service. I could not go another date and I scheduled for that following week where my schedule allowed me to so I figured I had nothing to worry about. I also got that money taken straight out of my bank account and a confirmation that my appt was accepted by Beneath the Surface. Then an hour later I got a text from an associate at the Studio that "SHE" had to cancel due to COVID-19. I wasn't shocked, but I figured I could look somewhere else due to the urgent need of my appointment. A week later I was checking my bank account and noticed that I still was not refunded. I knew about their policy, but "I" never rescheduled, they did. I signed the agreement because I did not have to reschedule. I never canceled, they did. Their website said they were open the day I scheduled, I got a confirmation email and they took my money out of my account. HOw can they accept money for a service they had to cancel and knew they could not provide?!?!. When I reached out to Amanda (the owner) she said there is no-exceptions. I argued my point that she rescheduled on me, took my money even though she knew they could not take me that day. How can a business accept money for something they cannot provide? It is not my fault that they did not update their website. This is misleading and stealing. After a couple of weeks of texting with Amanda she said that I could get my refund back if I took down my bad reviews and signed a document. Then a couple of days later she decided to take back her statement after I did what she said. She will not give me my money back even though she is in the wrong. They canceled and rescheduled on me, took my money even though they knew they could not provide the service. I have to share what a great experience I had at Beneath the Surface Skin Studio. I was so nervous to get my eyebrows microbladed but Kayla did an amazing job. The atmosphere in the studio was so fun and clean and upbeat! The process took a little longer than I anticipated but it was because she was helping a newer technician at the same time. Which was totally fine, it was nice to see everyone working together as a team and the fun conversations in the room made it seem not so long. These girls are great, I highly recommend this studio! read more

If I say I was nervous about microblading... that would be an understatement. I was so worried about the shape, the color, everything. My consultation was great and Amanda worked on shape with me then. She reassured me and prepared me well. A few days later, we made sure they were absolutely perfect before she began. I couldn't be happier with the process. She even manual shaded the brows in spots that need more of a fill in. I'm just a few days post microblading and everything is going as planned. Right now they look super dark and bold but expected to decrease by 50%. Can't wait for the finished product and I'll be back in 5 weeks for my included touch up. read more

I could not have had a better experience for my first time getting microbladed, and I am ecstatic that I get to provide the first Yelp review for this hidden gem! Not only do I love the results, but Amanda is a GEM. I originally scheduled for 2:45 yesterday, which I was able to do very last minute (called the morning of and she was eager to get me in ASAP!), but unfortunately Amanda had some family issues arise and we had to move my appointment back to 6pm. She kept me informed every step of the way and despite a hectic day of running a child to the ER she was still willing to dedicate 4 hours of meticulously placing stroke after stroke until we were both 100% satisfied with the results. She is an artist that genuinely believes her work is her signature. She took her time explaining the entire consent agreement to me which included care instructions, expectations, and contraindications. All of her equipment is sterile & she is certified through PhiBrows, which allows her to use a digital app that ensures perfect symmetry while drawing the outline. Her space is in a conveniently-located, adorable little studio right by the intersection of East Carson and 10th St. She ensured that I was comfortable throughout the entire process--providing me with a neck pillow, cushions, and blankets. To top it all off--her prices are significantly lower than other studios in Pittsburgh, and for far better quality & care. I had a great experience with Amanda. Not only is her work great, she is extremely hospitable. She made me a cup of fresh herb infused tea to start & got me a little gift for Valentine's day! She then took time to map out my brows & made sure I was pleased with how they looked. She also used an app to ensure all measurements were equal. Once starting the brows she took plenty of time and made sure they were evenly pigmented. Minimal pain the first pass then the next two passes were pain free as she used a numbing agent. I cannot say enough about the customer service and compassion I have been experiencing while setting up a micro-blading appointment here. Truly unbelievable. Ever since I was little I have had a condition where I pull out my eyebrows and eyelashes which sounds silly, I know. But it's something I can't help and have been trying for years to stop. Even though I deem it a silly condition, Amanda has been so sympathetic towards it. It's something I truly have to work towards everyday to stop. She has been working towards getting funding for women who have all sorts of hair loss conditions so that they can get discounted services. She genuinely just wants to make people feel beautiful and confident. Although I haven't gotten my eyebrows done yet, I had to share my experiences so far.
