I've been to plenty of tattoo shops in my lifetime, and have had mostly unsatisfactory experiences. But, The Bodyworks is definitely a breath of fresh air. They offer comprehensive tattoo removal/editing services, and have a great variety of unique artists to suit you own personal tastes. The shop is very clean and professional, and there is plenty of awesome artwork around to look at while you are waiting. When you walk in the door, you are greated by Pittsburgh punk legend Dave Trenga. Dave is always so gracious, welcoming, and friendly. Every time I go there I am offered some kind food and refreshment. This really cool to me, because sometimes going to get a tattoo can be an unnerving nervous experience for me. I always feel appreciated and welcomed by the entire staff. I go to the Bodyworks to see Steve Morris, who specializes in photorealistic tattoos. His work is truly amazing, and he is such a nice guy. I also utilize the laser tattoo removal services of Wes South. I didn't think it was possible to have a tattoo removed, and have It be so affordable. All the artists work in conjunction with Wes to help you be rid of that tattoo you don't want any longer. My overall impression of the Bodyworks, is overwhelmingly positive. The staff are all super people, truly epic at what they do. I would definitely recommend this place as the very best tattoo studio in Pittsburgh. If you're looking for the best tattoo studio in the Pittsburgh area, Bodyworks is it. Don McDonald is a true artist and a really nice guy. He specializes in biomech pieces, but he did a really incredible orchid tattoo for me that was just as good as his biomech stuff. You don't have to take my word for it - the fact that I can't wear a short sleeve shirt without a few strangers a day commenting on what a great tattoo I have is pretty good evidence. I can't even tell you how many suburban moms have come up to me in the grocery store and said, "I don't usually like tattoos, but that's beautiful." Don's waiting list is about 6 months long at this point, but this is something that you're going to have on your body for the rest of your life. You can take your chances with someone else who might be able to see you next week, but if you really want something amazing, get on the list. It's worth the wait. read more

Don McDonald & the crew at Bodyworks Tattoo are completely amazing. I've done several years of research and got personally recommended by Guy Aitchison to see Don for a full bio sleeve/hand. I contacted Don May of 2010 and we discussed what I was looking for per phone conversations and he had told me his wait at that time was about a year so I put my name on his list of future clients. Throughout the year I'd contact him or he would contact me just to make sure I'm still interested in getting work done which is a nice touch. Towards December we got set on a date for March of 2011 which was sooner than I had thought so I was very excited. The start of my new job this year led to me having to reschedule the appointment to May which was still not bad at all considering I have to go in for 2 days back-to-back for such a large piece and that I'm 7 hours away from him. So just last month we start hashing out all the details back and forth through email, phone, and text. I was nervous due to sending him about a dozen pictures and picking out what I like from each one and dislike. A few weeks later I get a rough sketch from him texted to me which was awesome! Another week later I get a final sketch which was amazing! I couldn't believe how well he took my ideas in my head and translated them to paper, unreal. My flights, car rental, and hotel were booked months in advance for this trip so I'm really glad everything went so smoothly! I get to his shop on our first day of the 2 day session and from the outside it looks very "bland", but once you step in it's like night and day! It's so clean and bright inside, extremely deceiving from the outside, which I found out is how Don likes it though. He lays out the stencil on me perfect the first time! Steve Morris (another amazing artist there who my girlfriend is getting a full sleeve from) tells me that he's never seen Don have to lay a stencil twice, ever! So we get going and everything is just so smooth, we hammer out about 5 hours the first day and another 5 or so the second day. I have to say Don is extremely organized and thinks everything out very well! I wasn't sure how I would be able to sit for nearly 6 hours but he said "You'll be fine", but in a nice way. He has it worked out so well so he knows where to start and how to progress so that neither of us get burnt out too quickly. I'm going back for 3 more 10-12 hour sessions, probably a 4th one to just re-saturate everything once more and go over any small/fine details. They are also EXTREMELY clean too. I can't say enough good things about Don & his shop. His wait time is 1 1/2 years right now so get on the list before he has to start turning people away! My ONLY complaint (if you can even call it that), is that he needs to get all of his new work out on his website! His new stuff is INSANE, so get on that Don! =) read more

I recently got a tattoo from Allie Oxenblood. She did a fantastic job. Allie has a great personality and is the least bit heavy handed. Her rates are what is to be expected for a quality tattoo. The shop was clean. The parking spaces directly in front of their location are kind of jacked but there is a big lot across the street. For my 300th review, I'm going to go out on a limb and rate a studio for which I haven't even gotten a piece in yet (though I'm sure updated reviews will follow). I've been searching far and wide for an artist to do my second piece, a half sleeve, for a while. Justin at Black Cat in Lawrenceville recommended Steve Morris at Bodyworks to me, so I decided to consult with him about the piece. I knew very quickly that I wanted my piece done by Steve soon after we met. He's a really nice guy with a lot of talent, and what I most enjoyed about him is his ability to take a concept and run with it. I didn't have an exact blow by blow of what the piece would be, and he worked with me to use his interpretation to construct an idea of what he thought would look best. In fact, he said he prefers working with a client this way. We've since had a couple of meetings as well as an official consultation, and we've made appointments to get everything started. I'm very excited to see how everything turns out. I'll also speak highly of the entire group working at Bodyworks (Allie did my first piece), as well as the studio itself.
