Beneath The Gown - The outside of the shop. - Bridal Near Me - Branford, Connecticut

I was so happy, when I moved to connecticut, to find a great place for bra fittings. The place is out of the way for me, but perfect. Hey have a great selection and a knowledgeable staff. You have to make a reservation but your appointment is fast. They even pull items in different colors I have purchased before. It is pricey- but the quality is great. For me, worth the drive to get great fitting and looking lingerie. No pictures. Haha read more

Josie is absolutely wonderful at Beneath the Gown! So kind and gracious and helpful! Can't recommend enough!

Wonderful experience. So helpful and patient until we found the right pieces for my mob dress. Just perfect!

I am so grateful for Josie and her help! I went in for a fitting for everyday bras - no special occasion just needing help figuring out what would work for a large bust, post pregnancy and nursing. She got me set up with multiple bras, including a sports bra, in no time. Don't waste your time with online orders or endless options at a department store! Expertise and knowledge makes all the difference. Josie was incredibly kind, efficient, friendly, and put me at ease. I can't recommend her enough :) read more

Excellent, excellent customer service and now I am done with Christmas shopping.... I can say that I am not good at this type of shopping, but with some help, I closed out my Christmas list... And on the inevitable return trip, I was able to use a yelp coupon to diminish the pain of all the extras that went on top of the original items changes. read more

Beneath The Gown - Not just fancy stuff, yes, they do have every day wear!!! - Bridal Near Me - Branford, Connecticut

See all

I saw Josie at Beneath the Gown for bridal alterations as well as a bra to go with my dress with a slightly low back. She helped me find the perfect bra, and also sewed special tabs into my dress that tucked into my bra to keep the dress from slipping down. They made such a difference! I bought my dress secondhand, so some tears in the fabric needed to be fixed, there was a bit of discoloration in the underarm area, and it needed to be taken in a bit. Honestly, I didn't even notice some of these issues, but Josie saw them right away. Despite the layers of lace and beading (Josie told me she would have to remove and then replace some of the beading and boning if I lost any more weight), she managed to make all the repairs while leaving it looking like a brand new dress. Josie is not only very talented at her craft but also absolutely lovely to work with. I'm so glad I went to Beneath the Gown! read more

I initially visited Beneath the Gown to find the perfect undergarments for my dress. I struggled to find undergarments in regular department stores that not only did not show through my low back dress but also addressed all my problem areas. Josie came to my rescue and was able to create custom undergarments for me that addressed all my issues! During my appointment, she made me feel comfortable and was so sweet that I ultimately decided to also get my dress alterations completed there. My dress had a very intricate lace pattern and you couldn't even tell where the dress had been altered. Josie is clearly a perfectionist and takes pride in her work. I'm so glad I found BTG and Josie! read more

After finding my perfect gown, I had to find the perfect undergarments to complement it. Beneath the Gown was the perfect boutique to help me do so. I was a little uncomfortable at first but Josie made me feel at ease with her gentle, polite approach to helping me. We were able to pick out all of the right pieces and have them custom-altered to fit my body and gown. I never thought about these details in my planning and after a night of tug-free dancing, I was so delighted that I went to Beneath the Gown to select the perfect undergarment pieces. read more

If I've learned one thing in the process of all of my wedding planning, it is that once you've spent thousands of dollars on a wedding gown, you want to make sure it looks as good as possible on you. After buying my gown at The White Dress by the Shore, they had referred me to Beneath The Gown for as the name implies, lingerie to wear under your wedding dress. I guess I had never given much thought to anything aside from the gown, and after reading up on the importance of picking the "perfect foundation" and meeting with the seamstress who basically told me my life would be changed if I made an appointment, I decided I needed to see what all of the fuss was about! Walking into the shop, I was immediately greeted by Josie&Heidi, who are the sweetest women in the world-they immediately offered my mother & me coffee and had us seated comfortably in back to enjoy our coffee while Josie pulled some options. I had brought my wedding dress with me so that I could try it on with the different undergarments(my dress has a very low cut back/strapless with a sweet heart neckline and didn't even know it was possible to have something aside from built-in-cups)-- if you don't have your dress, you can just bring pictures and they can find you something based on that. They have a beautiful collection of fine european lingerie-- from lace to silk-- that Josie will completely customize to your wedding dress(she also adds her own touch- a blue bow if you'd like for your something blue). As I'm using a seamstress that is close to Josie, they communicate to each other so that the lingerie works perfectly under your dress and stays in place(becoming more a part of your dress as opposed to just something you just wear underneath). Josie pulled the perfect piece for me-- it actually transformed the way the dress looked and added support to show off my figure as the dress is completely silk/lace and doesn't have ribbing to help enhance--and it made me feel so pretty and feminine!! Ughh, seriously I cannot say enough amazing things-- if you're a bride, come here!!! You also don't just have to come here for wedding needs, but for customized bra fittings/post-mastectomy needs and beautiful bathing suits!!!!! I will definitely be coming back before my honeymoon to choose my bathing suit. read more

If you are a bride go directly here! And if you aren't a bride still go directly here. Josie and her daughter, Heidi, the owners of this lovely boutique, make a great team. Josie spent a lot of time working with me to find the perfect "foundation" for my wedding dress. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to have the right undergarments for your wedding dress-they will enhance and perfect the fit and silhouette of your dress. The best part of working with Josie is that she's also a seamstress. She is able to customize bras, corsets, etc. to fit you correctly. Before going here I didn't even know it was possible to tailor lingerie! This is the WOW! factor of BTG. You can definitely appreciate this if you are someone who's an in between size. Josie was able to alter my wedding dress corset along with bras I purchased here for everyday wear. Her seamstress skills are impeccable and she pays close attention to every little detail. The only mistake I made is that I didn't go here FIRST! It would have saved me a lot of time and aggravation from dealing with other stores that didn't take the time and didn't have the knowledge to fit properly. I highly recommend BTG to anyone either looking for their wedding dress foundation or the key essentials that belong in every woman's lingerie wardrobe. Josie and Heidi are skilled at fitting every body type and they will take the time to find the right pieces for you. They also carry bathing suits and sports bras. I actually need to get down there soon for some new stuff! read more

Josie is amazing! I was so stressed about my wedding dress staying up and the dress store where I bought my dress/was getting it fitted did not have much of a selection in terms of lingerie. I found Beneath the Gown and decided to try it out. BEST decision. Josie is warm, friendly, super-knowledgeable and helpful. She helped me find the most perfect corset with boning to have sewed into my dress. She also suggested shape wear to wear under my dress since I was wearing a fit and flare in mid July. I am so happy I went here. I highly suggest it to anyone who is stressing about the fit of their gown, undergarments, etc. read more

The fitting service here is exemplary. The bras are expensive but try buying one here and see how you feel. The owner not only chooses great products, but she also can tailor straps and other special needs like broken wires. I've been getting compliments all summer on the bathing suit she chose for me (and showed me how to properly wear.) read more

I went to Josie after she came highly recommended by The White Dress By The Shore and also by a friend of mine. I brought in my wedding dress and she took so much time and care to select the perfect undergarments for my "foundation" so I will be supported and comfortable in my dress on the big day. She also fitted me (and my mom) for the best bras we've ever worn! If you haven't gone to Beneath The Gown, you're missing out! read more

Josie was truly my life-saver! I lost about 20 lbs between buying my wedding gown and getting to the fitting phase. The result: it was much too large. I actually wasn't even sure if I LIKED my dress anymore. My tailor told me to make sure I got proper undergarments before coming to him, and recommended Josie. Not only did she not bat an eye at my latex allergy (in other words, NO ELASTIC), she found the perfect longline bra for me, sewed in cups, altered it, AND suggested I make a change to the neckline of my dress that made me fall in love with it again! She is sweet, kind, responsive, and quite funny. I highly recommend you visit her for bridal (or any) undergarments. read more

Beneath the Gown was absolutely wonderful! My sister and I went today with my wedding dress to find the right underpinnings. Josie and Heidi were very hospitable and a pleasure to work with on this very important "project". Bridal underwear is so critical to the perfect look, and they had so much experience to share. Josie made wonderful suggestions and offered solutions I hadn't even considered. She is now tailoring the bra I purchased to work perfectly with my dress, and I'm going back in 3 weeks for another fitting. While I was there, I tried on several other pieces of lingerie that were also incredible, and priced fairly. I was so impressed with this store and I can't wait to go back!!!! read more

Josie definitely knows her stuff! She customized my corset to fit with my sheer backed wedding gown just by looking at the picture. She's so sweet and thinks of everything to make it work. I highly recommend!! read more

Josie is amazing! This is the only place I will ever buy my lingerie from. I went in for a professional bra fitting and met Josie. I am very self-conscious of my large breasts and want to get a reduction so I hate bra shopping, but Josie made me feel really good about myself. I purchased three bras' that day. A few months later I had Josie help fit me for my wedding corset. I was really nervous about getting ready on my wedding day so I rented Josie! She will come to your house and get you in your corset and make sure your gown and underthings are perfect. I never felt more beautiful and she was such big part of that! Worth every penny! PS- My husband LOVED everything I bought there. Thanks Josie! read more

Having purchased my wedding gown at The White Dress by the Shore, they recommended to visit Beneath the Gown for all of the under garment pieces!! As another review states - you're usually spending a good amount on your gown - the last thing you want is to look like you're falling out of it or it doesn't fit you right. Immediately upon entering we were greeted by the store owner! She is so sweet and so welcoming. I felt comfortable right away. I had not been fitted for under garments in years as I find it kind of awkward. This is the place to go if you're anything like me. She spent a little over an hour helping me find the right piece - and even found me every day pieces as well!! My mother got fitted for her pieces by the owners daughter for her gown and also felt we had a fantastic professional and welcoming experience!! Having been a dedicated shopper at Victoria's Secret previously, I definitely will never go anywhere else for any of my under garments again.. Love it! read more

Very helpful. Money well spent. I've referred 3 people since my visit last month and they all love it. The owners are kind, personable and respectful. read more

Excellent!!!!! I have never felt better about the way I look than I do now after getting fitting for the correct size bra. Josie was excellent, very knowledgeable, and made me feel comfortable. Totally something that I never pictured me doing but after seeing a photo of me taken over the summer I was mortified to see how dumpy I looked. I bought 3 bras from Josie and it is the best money I ever spent. I look thinner and I feel so much better. I am a petite girl wearing a 32 DDD. Just imagine! My new bras make me look smaller - yes they do!!! Now I am no longer ashamed of my largeness! Thank you Josie!!! I will tell everyone female I know about you and your store. read more

First time here and definitely recommend. Was easy to make an appointment and they were very flexible with their schedule. I met Josie and she was such a pleasure. I was there for about an hour but it felt like 15 minutes! She knew exactly what I was looking for and she was a delight to work with. Find your custom undergarments for your wedding here! You won't regret it! read more

Went here with my mom to get special bras for my wedding and bridal shower. Such a wonderful experience! We are both larger chested so wanted something we would feel supported and comfortable in. Both of the women who work there were so incredibly helpful. They knew just what get us and everything they purchased turned out perfectly. They will even tailor the bra to your body if it needs any alternations so it literally fits perfectly. I was so happy with the experience that I even bought a bathing suit there. I always feel unsupported in bathing suits from a regular store so having something like this was great! read more
