I am writing this review amidst my own selfish desires to gatekeep my new favorite groomer in town but it's just too good not to share. Below is a photo of my child, Dexter. He is a gentle soul who is tied to me at the hip. Like many of our babies, he is afraid of things like visits to the vet and hectic grooming salons. Well, recently I discovered Branden Herrera at Bend Pet Resort, and I am absolutely blown away by the level of care, compassion, and kindness at this establishment. Branden kept me updated with photos to let me know how Dex was doing, and I am certain he was treated like royalty from start to finish. Dexter came in for a summer cut. He has a thick undercoat and gets very hot during Oregon summers. Branden was very thorough in the de-shed process, and even shaved his belly to help keep him cool. He coat feels the softest it's ever felt, and he hasn't shed a single fur ball since coming home. The folks at BPR are hands down the best humans I have encountered for grooming services. They are gentle, patient, thorough, honest, and passionate about what they do. They also offer day care and boarding services. Personally, I think they could be charging more than double for this level of service- but it truly seems their hearts are in the right place, and they are here for the animals (and their owners). My dog stayed there for a week while I our family vacationed in Sun River. I had some difficulties getting a reservation booked at first. I never got to see the area that she was staying in and no web cams available to check in on her. I scheduled an exit bath and was clean and happy when I picked her up. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!!! This place is absolute garbage and full of clearly racist staff. We're from out of town and wanted to board our dogs for one night. We called several times to let them know we wanted to save a spot but each time they said they would have availability so we could just walk in. Fast forward to day of the boarding, they tell us they're "full". Meanwhile I watched them accept a dog right before us to be picked up 4 days later. Are you kidding me?!? Not only that but they would only let one of us into the building and told my husband to wait outside even though there was no one in the check in office. I would rate this place 0 stars if I could. We had our dogs boarded at Bend Pet Resort for a long weekend while we were out of town. This was the first time we ever left our dogs anywhere. This place is AWESOME. Our pups loved it there, I think they were actually sad to leave when we picked them up. The owners and staff are so friendly and accommodating. They obviously love what they do and are so good with their care. The facility is amazing, the attention and love our furry family members received was top notch. These people currently have my dog and will not give him back to me. I'm working with the Bend Police to retrieve him but as of now, I'm very scared and concerned! The owners are calling me and threatening me and my dog if I don't do as they say and wait until next week to pick him up. Branden is absolutely the best groomer I've found in Bend! My small dog gets pretty nervous for groomers- I drop him off every time shaking. He's also generally afraid of men, so I wasn't sure how a he would do with a male groomer. Well Today was Topher's 3rd visit with Branden and no shaking anymore, and when we left he was giving Branden enthusiastic goodbye kisses. For him to act that way, I can tell that they have built up a rapport and that Branden must be so sweet and gentle with him. Plus, he has never looked cuter after a grooming!!! We've been boarding our dog Parko here for over 5 years. Ken and his staff are under appreciated! We've never had any issues with drop off. Even though our dog can be super anxious when he's dropped off, he's always in good care. I appreciate their flexibility with our last minute bookings/planned boarding. Great people!! New owners Eric (Hayley) are extremely unprofessional and service has declined. Bend Pet Resort and Eric have helped my firbabies over the years with extremely difficult nail trimming for 3 of my girls. He does a FANTASTIC job with even my very unsocial Chihuahua/pug. He takes the time to answer any questions and is professional. His work is impeccable. I would not recommend this place. I took my dog here for 5 days while we were out of town. When I picked him up he was acting weird and I couldn't figure out why. When I got home I discovered he had a bloody paw and was completely missing a nail. I was never told about what happened and they had no explanation of what happened. I have never encountered a place with worse customer service or staff. The older woman that worked there was horribly rude and disrespectful to us. There are other reviews on this woman where Ken has said he would fix the problems with this out of line woman. Alas, this is apparently his wife, so I don't think this problem is getting solved anytime soon. We were told that we would get $30 off if we paid in cash, which we were willing to do, but it was not on the paperwork. When questioned upon this, the woman became defensive which eventually led to her kicking our dog out of the kennel and telling us that she did not want our dog there. As we were backing out, the woman stormed out and yelled "f*** you" while the whole family was in the car listening to her. She continued and walked up to the passenger seat, upon which we asked her incredulously if she had said those words to us. She lied and said "I was just saying goodbye!" To cement the fact that she has indeed yelled obscenities at our family, she slapped the car while we pulled out. Attached are the messages that were sent after the ordeal. Been using Bend Pet Resort for years and years. Going on our third "generation" staying there. I'm pretty sure they aren't the original owners from when we first started going there, but the current owners have been running it the past few years and have done some upgrades. We mostly use Bend Pet Resort for boarding....be it overnight or a week. However, they do offer daily service for people who just want their pets looked after while they are at work. They have always taken excellent care of our dogs. Very kind and compassionate....especially as they get older. The proof is in the pudding and when our dogs LOVE to go there and get so excited they can barely contain themselves, what else can you say? The first time we dropped off our current dog, she put the brakes on. Almost like going to the vet. Looked back and gave us this mournful look that just about broke our hearts. Now? She doesn't even look back. She trots off with complete enthusiasm. Why boarding? Because I trust them. Plain and simple, lots of people have volunteered to watch our dog but I don't want to be upset with them IF something were to go wrong. Hard to be mad at friends and family but I can be mad at a business. NOT that I have had occasion to be upset with Bend Pet Resort...they have always been very professional, fair and completely upstanding in all our dealings. The only reason I am not giving them a five star rating is because I am a firm believer in being able to compare them with another business. Since they are the only boarding company I have used, I cannot in good faith give them a five. Use Bend Pet Resort and you'll feel confident that your loved ones are being kept safe, loved on and well cared for while you are out of town. Last visit to Bend Pet Resort was a little odd. Come into the office to drop off our dog, sign the requisite paperwork. At the bottom of the form it asks for a budget if emergency services are needed for your pet. Fine, but too be honest, I always fill this in and am never quite sure what to put? I always hope that they will just call and we can figure it out. But, I get it, they need to know, that's fine. I put $500 which is what I always put. The gal says "$500 doesn't get you much for emergency services". Okay, that's what I always put. The owner then says "so, if it's over $500 we should have her put down?" It was simple at the start. We had a short time to get cash to avoid their extra fees before we had to catch a flight. It could have been left at that. When we didn't come back after leaving (we were on a flight), they called us repeatedly, not only that day, but also, the next morning at 7:30. The owner said I was strange when I didn't call him back to explain why we didn't come back. He said that as I work in health care, he supposed I charge people all the time for services they don't come in for. All of this was unexpected. We had to catch a flight and it's pretty normal if someone leaves a business without paying and dropping their pet off for the service... and doesn't return after you are closed, to accept that the service isn't going to work for them... not to hound them and attack their character for not coming in. The owner had said we had a limited time to go out and get cash if we wanted to avoid their additional credit card fees. He was closing at 1 p.m. I didn't expect him to call back repeatedly and then to be so rude over the phone. By the way, you can pay an extra $40 a day to have your dog watch t.v. My family thought this was funny, but it didn't quite erase the hostility or how quick the owner was to hound us when their services simply didn't work out for us. Lots of hidden fees... I was going to board my dog 4 nights, but they said this was actually 5 days so we would have to pay an additional night, as well as be required to pay for their add-ons. They add-on for a walk ($8 a day) or play time with other dogs ($6 a day) and it is required to use 1 add-on per day. This was going to cost an additional $46-$56 (1 extra night plus 1 add-on for the 5 days.) They also charge $14 extra if you use a credit card instead of cash. read more

Things have changed quite a bit since the owners put the place up for sale and moved out of state for health reasons. I stopped taking my cat there about a year ago, after the owners moved; and when I learned that Bend Kitty lodge had new owners and were doing an incredible job. My first visit. I've heard good things about this place. Arriving I left my pup in the car and went to the check in office. Immediately I found it to be dark, dusty, uninviting and foul smelling. Behind the desk were sliding doors which you could view dogs in a play room which appeared well kept. When asked to see where my dog would be staying the employee was more than happy to show me, across the parking lot we went to another building and through a door. IMMEDIATELY I was struck with overwhelming smell of urine and feces. To my left was what appeared to be a grooming room which looked archaic, in disarray and unclean. To my right, I believe, was an office area. I was too shocked by the smell and the grooming area at this point. Through another door I was walked into a vast room of nothing but chain link fence run after run after run, the noise and smell unbearable. This 'room' was as bad as some of the worst shelters I've been in. I turned, walked out, thanked the employee and said I would go elsewhere. No way, ever, would I leave an animal here. read more

We've used Bend Pet Resort as our dog's resort when we need to head out of town without them for about 5 years. We've also taken the dogs to the resort when we've had guests that are allergic to our furry friends. Most of our trips are planned so I make their reservation as soon as I have the dates of the trip. Like all of the other pet hotels and pet sitting services in this territory, thet get busy during holidays so I book ASAP . My dogs enjoy the location and staff enough that they start barking and wagging their tails with excitement when we pull into the driveway. Nice outside appearance but inside cramped, smelly dog runs (I've seen better dog shelters) poor ventilation and no AC, very warm inside. Indoor play area was without any toys or staff. A large open area with dogs staring at us through glass doors. Our dog was well vaccinated and updated for Bordatella required every 6 months. She came home with kennel cough requiring vet costs and medication. One night stay. I would not leave our dog here again. Very disappointed- not as advertised! read more

Bend Pet Resort is AWESOME! I'd reserved a luxury suite for my pup over the 4th of July weekend, and he seems to have had a great experience there. This was his first time staying at Bend Pet Resort, but it was the EASIEST transition I've ever had when I brought him home from being boarded... he was already happy and relaxed. And the owner's (Ken's) attention to detail totally won me over... the place was very clean (and air conditioned), he was wary of the heat and keeping dogs hydrated/safe, and I'd even heard him reminding staff members about the particulars of each dog they were getting ready to walk. Went to drop off my dog for the holiday and they had failed to tell me on her last visit that they required a bordetella vaccine every 6 months and since it had been 7 months they wouldn't keep her and left me in a bind. I had no time to go find her a vaccine and Ken would not give me my $143 deposit back. I had had her in there over the summer 3 other times and it was never mentioned. The kennel I had used for seven years had closed and the Bordetella was required yearly. Ken was rude and could have cared less about my holiday plans. Forgot to mention how dirty the kennel was and how bad it smelled. Truly a bad experience and would never recommend this kennel. Anyone giving them a higher rating is obviously related! read more

My dogs have boarded there 4 times and they only have a record of one time, this apparently was a reason for not making an accommodation for our dog.
