We had used the U-wash services in the past with pretty good results, but this last time, with our new puppy, it was a disaster: no aprons, no ear wipes, "no extra towels or I'll charge you extra." But the worst was the terrible collar attached to the tub. Not sure why they switched to collars that you need to hold onto the dog with. Absolutely changed for the worse. Like the store though. Adore the staff and products here. The hit it out of the park each time. We were nervous and uncertain about what to do when our pup developed bladder crystals. One of the staff had been through it herself on moving to Bend from PDX. All of her pets developed bladder crystals due to the high level of minerals here in the water. She told me what I would need to do (switch to distilled water) and what supplements to use. My pup is allergic to corn and the vet told me he would have to be on a special corn diet for bladder crystals for the next two months. She found me a food over Chewy that was not corn-based and recommended another food brand that has been a game changer for both of my pups to supplement with until the Chewy order arrived. Fast forward to the 4th of July. I spoke to another knowledgeable staff member about my other dog's anxiety with firewords and she made recommendations that were so effective, we decided to curb his anxiety naturally from now on with the 2 products she gave us samples of. My pup was like a puppy again, playful, cuddling, tender, soft. We appreciate their return policy, too, that allows us to make returns if needed. They have never judged us as we have been honest about pet concerns, which can be emotional. read more

I am born and raised in bend, I support the locals when I can but this one made me call it for good. Didn't catch her name but has a flashy, spiked nose ring and lets you know all she knows. My Family has owned Dobermans my whole life and we have always wrestled skin issues with them. Whether that be because of diet, dry climate, sibling scratches while they play with each other, etc. they have always had sensitive skin. No worries, good shampoo and a skin spray has always helped if not solved it. Well, today I was told all about it... lol So, I walk in with my wife, who has never seen the place and had heard me say a few times how nice it is, to look at some shampoos. I remember a woman who treated me very well 6 years ago or so when my 12 year old boy needed joint help so I had no reason not to show my lady and also find some new skin help for my 2 year old female. I said "I have an itchy Doberman, looking for the shampoo and skin section." She then proceeds to quiz me and question what I am doing food wise for my dog. After I reluctantly answer multiple garbage questions, she tells me all about how my dogs age is the factor. She will grow out of it, it's a chicken thing, just let her itch, if you change foods give it 6 weeks, if salmon doesn't work just try lamb and wait another 6 weeks.... At that point I was irritated and my lady knew it. I ended it there. Here's my deal, I asked where an item or items were so I could support your establishment, I did not walk into a vet with my dog and ask for help answering something I already have learned. I get it, you want to "help" but I didn't ask for your expertise. Pet store not a vet! My baby girl is eating salmon and so is my 5 year old, 100lb boy. I read ingredients regularly if and when I change foods. My 12 year old boy was diabetic so food is definitely something I pay attention to and watch for reactions. Feel bad giving a one star since I noticed there was another girl sweeping and I'll say I wish she asked me if she could help instead. So I'll stick to 2 stars. Keep it up other girl!!!!!! Went into petco right after, asked where the shampoo for skin irritation is and she pointed to the isle. Got what I needed after reading all the bottles and was out of there. I am not sure that the dog wash is managed by Bend Pet Express. This review is about the dog wash. Last time I went in they were at lunch from 12-1 but that was not listed on the website. No big deal. This time I arrived at 11:37 for a quick self wash no dry. It was empty. The employee informed me that she needed to go to lunch at 12:00. I told her that I would be sure to be done by then. She said OK. As she finished wiping down the tub she again asked if I was sure that I could be done by noon. I told her that I would go across the street so that she would not worry. I would encourage them to post dog wash hours that are closed from 11:30 until 1 pm for lunch. read more

When I adopted my new kitty from Bright Side, this was one of the places that offered a coupon to take in after adoption to pick up some free food. I wouldn't have known this place existed otherwise!! The coupon included a bag of dry food, a bag of frozen food, and some canned food. That was way more than I was expecting!! Of course I also bought a few things myself, but that was greatly appreciated. The guy who was working with me was extremely helpful. I knew nothing about frozen cat food, or what the best wet cat foods were to try either. He had his own recommendations for everything. It was really nice, and my kitty still loves the dry food that we got from here. I live closer to Redmond so I don't know how often I will be coming back but I am glad I got a chance to check this place out. If I lived closer I wouldn't hesitate to make this my regular place. When I first called this place about a year ago, I explained that my dog needed her second coat brushed out and to have a good bath. I let them know she had some mats and the girl who groomed her( I believe her name is Elizabeth )did a lovely job. She mentioned that my dog talks through the whole process and tries to eat the brush... All her normal stuff the next time I called the manager, Sarah was so abrupt and rude on the phone. I didn't want to make another appointment. Thinking it was. just a bad day for her I called at another point, and brought my dog in for a bath and all went well. Another time I brought her in despite the despicable rudeness on the phone, and they forgot to cut her nails and clean her ears and the same manager that is so rude most of the time was very nice and actually thanked me for being so understanding however, it seems that the backlash for her having been nice about that was to be incredibly rude after the fact. I decided to have her groomed again and since they usually only take about an hour to an hour and a half I scheduled as normal. Then the manager told me I should choose a different time and date so they would have more time. This sounded great since she has arthritis and going slow would be a good idea. At her arrival with a friend of mine, the manager came right out to insist that I find a new groomer "someone who does this kind of thing, and not just a bath" which is incredibly odd, because they advertise groomers, and when I first brought her in, and every time since they insisted that they were groomers and bathers. When I called to pay, the manager was abrupt, rude, and wouldn't stop speaking telling me that they aren't equipped for grooming, and that she couldn't cut all her mats from "head to toe" which she didn't have They advertise as groomers, and I never want a haircut for her just her coat brushed and bathed again, as they advertised. So. Sarah you need to work on your manners ;sometimes you're nice on the phone and other times it's like you're letting out your frustration on the world on whoever calls and that's unacceptable. It is bad business to tell someone not to bring their dog for exactly what you advertise that you do. read more

First the store is clean and the employees are every well informed and extremely helpful. We took our two dogs in here two things. One was a new harness which we found. They sized our dogs and fitted them and explained how to resize them. This was awesome and very helpful. The only drawback to the store is lack of selection. It seems they offer a little bit of everything which means you don't get much to pick from in any one thing. Case in point ruffwear. They have a very small display with two of their harness. One type they only had 2 different sizes and one color, the other style had 3 different sizes and two colors to pick from. The second thing was we came back to get our dogs a mud bath. They don't have anywhere to keep dogs when they're not actively washing them which means no dropping them off a little early. You need to be there at your exact appointment time and 15 mins before they're done bathing them they'll call you to come get them. If you are late picking them up it's a $1 a minute late charge. We were told it would take 90 minutes for both out dogs to get the de-shed mud bath. 45 minutes after we dropped them off we got the 15 minute courtesy call. It took them just 60 minutes and they looked great! They also smelled really good and had super soft coat. Pricing for this is on the high side @ $80 per Labrador but honestly it's worth it. I went to Bend Pet Express yesterday to get my dog's nails trimmed and to get him some treats. Once my dog was finished getting his nails trimmed we grabbed some treats and my boyfriend paid the lady in the back for our treats and nail trimming. As my boyfriend was walking out an employee accused him of not paying. I went back in the store to explain that my boyfriend did pay in the back and the same employee told me that I stole too. He told me I put stuff in my purse. I asked the employee if he wanted to check my purse and he said I had already put the stolen items in my car. I'm not sure why this employee didn't call the police if he suspected I was stealing. I would not steal anything from anyone, EVER. See attached photos below to see my proof of purchase. Good Lord. Why haven't I done a review for Bend Pet Express before today is beyond me. Sometimes I am a little dense. I have gone to the west side BPE for easily 15 years. Always, always getting such great friendly service. Today, for the first time ever I placed an online order for delivery. When asked when I would like delivery I marked for two days out, not wanting to be rude and high maintenance. A bit later in the morning I was telling my husband we needed to make sure and keep our big electric gate open for when they drop off our pet food. Needless to say, moments after saying that our ring doorbell went off. I looked and my food had been dropped off. They recognized the man gate which NOBODY ever does and brought the order right to our front door. What an impeccable customer service they provided for us today. Top-notch. This is for the "U-Wash" pet grooming located in the back of the store. I'm pretty sure it's a separate entity from Bend Pet Express, but here nor there, it's where I go to wash the pooch. They've raised their prices some over the years and charge extra for using the blow dryer, but hey...if I can wash my doge who HATES being bathed in a tub that doesn't kill my back for under $20, I'm happy. And that's really the deal here. It's primarily a "you wash" place but I know they offer grooming services, for a fee. So I can't comment on their drop your pet off, pick 'em up later service although it appears many people do utilize that option. Seems as if every time we go in, there is a dog being groomed or waiting to be picked up after grooming. At any rate, we've only been "disappointed" one time and that was a very busy day where the hot water ran low. The attendant was very apologetic and gave us a coupon for a free wash at a later date. Hey, I'm good with that. Our dog was certainly good with that! For those not familiar with a "you wash" pet grooming place, it's pretty basic. They provide the elevated tub with warm water, soaps, brushes, towels and...for an additional fee....use of the blow dryer. Pay your bill and leave a little more wet than when you walked in but definitely happier about the shed hair left here (and not in your own tub) and no aching back. We are fans of this place. It's nearby for us (convenient). It's reasonably priced. Like I said, if it's under $20, I'm happy. And they do have a rewards punch card....10th wash free type of thing. The staff are cordial but not overly friendly, even though I go to great pains to clean up afterward. Washing the sides of the tub down, etc. I'm always smiling but they aren't. I just chalk it up to some animal lovers who...well...love animals more than people. When all is said and done, as long as I can come and do the deed with relative ease and get thru a chore much dreaded by both man and beast, this place meets my needs. Yeah, I'm a fan. read more

I am all for supporting local businesses, but not at the expense of lightening my wallet by more than double. And while you certainly *could* spend a mint on your pampered pooch or kitty here, you don't *have* to. They carry most of the widely available commercial brands of pet food, litter, and supplies... with the addition of organic and other "earth friendly" brands. Prices are fairly comparable to chain stores. I also found that they carry a wider container sizes than many competitors. The staff is friendly and helpful. They were able to direct me to some awesome chew treats for our lab that lasted more than a day, and didn't smell nearly as bad as some of the other treats we had tried. Pig's ear, anyone? read more

I started taking my two dogs to BPE "U Wash" a few months ago. Each Experience has been great. This weekend my dogs had a face to face encounter with the neighborhood skunk. They smelled awful. I just took my chihuahua in to have a bath and trim her nails. My regular girl at Wilco was ill so I took my dog to Pet Express. It was $25.00 for the 10 minute shampoo ( I didn't have her "blown dry", and $10.00 for the nail trim. My mistake. Wilco charges $20.00 and I always tip. We have been long time customers of Bend Pet Express. Both east and west side, however I much prefer the east location as the staff is incredibly helpful! Let me start by saying we have a cat who was a rescue kitten, and when she was found she was in a box on the parkway with a bloated belly in the heat, and an empty can of food in the box! After some time recovering and many vet visits we got her back to health, but for seven years we could not stop her from eating so fast that she barfed all her food up. We spent nearly $2,000 in vet visits and they could not find out what was wrong. We saw two different vets thinking maybe the first missed he issue. All this to say that our kitty was on a very strict wet food only diet for her whole life and we had to feed her on a schedule because she could not free feed and self regulate. She still would have barfing episodes about once a week, but she is a tender loving kitty and the vet had no answers! We refused to give up and after 6 years of intensive feeding schedules we ran into a two week stretch where she would hardly touch her food at all. When she would she would vomit almost right away. My wife and I became very concerned since the food she was on was supposedly the most mild easiest on the tummy food out there. So this is where east side bend pet express comes in. After never tapping the knowledge that I've now come to find is there I wondered in the store with a flat of food my cat would not eat and in a world of cat food I didn't understand. McKayla came up and asked me if she could help, which I'm sure the look on my face said it all!! I explained what was going on and the whole story (even more detail than here), and she replied with, "well that food does have some additives in it that can be pretty harsh still. Have you tried first mate?" I told her no, and that I was worried how picky my cat was as an eater. She listened and told me to grab a flat and mix and match some cans of first mate and they would credit the unopened food I brought back. She also told me if any of these didn't work that she would credit that back towards other food also. We took it home, and now after three weeks for the first time EVER my cat is gaining weight, extremely happy, and isn't throwing up anymore! McKayla told me that cats can build an allergy to food when they eat the same thing over and over so it's good to have a variety for our cat to eat. I wish I would have tapped into this knowledge of what is in cat food much earlier as it could have saved us a lot of time and money. I can't say enough good things about how pleased I am, and I know my cat's health and elevated happiness is due to Mckayla taking the time she didn't have too to explain all this too me. I highly recommend talking with the staff at east side Bend Pet Express if you have food questions. They are highly trained and will care about your pet's well being as if it was their own. I love this store!!! I went in the other night in search of a good food for our cat who is struggling with a poor appetite and dwindling hydration. I stared at the all the products feeling overwhelmed at where to begin but one of the employees named, Makayla, promptly walked up and asked if I needed assistance. She began by me asking me numerous questions about my cat such as health/illnesses and likes/dislikes and then directed me to 3 different products that might be helpful. I can confidently say that he is eating more of his food now than he was before. What a lifesaver this place is! We were traveling with our small dog and wanted to let him burn off energy at a nearby dog park for a bit. Due to the melting snow/slush, he was a total mess after his fun at the park. We knew we couldn't go to our host's home with him dirty, so we found this place and brought him by for a do-it-yourself bath! I had never done a do-it-yourself bath for him (outside of our home) before, but the employee showed me how to use everything, and gave me all the towels, brushes, and necessary tools, along with a great conditioner. There is also an option for them to bathe the dog for you, if you don't want to do it yourself for some reason. There were a variety of shampoos to choose from. When we were finished, he was even given a handsome bandana! We picked up some food and treats for him on the way out. Super convenient, and he left squeaky clean and smelling great! I've been going to Bend Pet Express for random little things ever since I adopted my dog 6 months ago. In May he started getting very sick -- he couldn't walk 1/8 of a mile without laying down in pain and he was dropping weight like crazy. After spending close to $2,000 at urgent care and my regular vet on tests he was kind-of-sort-of diagnosed with IBD. In a process of a couple months the vets switched my dogs food 4 times and he was never taken off antibiotics, despite his blood work being normal. I went into Bend Pet Express after our last urgent care visit and met Debi. Literally I was out the door in 4 minutes with a new diet of limited ingredient kibble and raw goats milk. I added the raw goats milk to my dogs current (at the time) vet prescribed wet food and I swear in less than 24 hours he was back to 100%. Three months later, my dog is completely on this kibble and raw goats milk diet and he has never been healthier! He gained back all of the weight he lost and has a ton of pep in his step. There's nothing worse than having your baby be sick, and I am so grateful Debi is so knowledgeable on pet nutrition that she was able to stabilize and fix my dogs IBD, unlike a multitude of vets. read more
