A couple of months after my visit to the West Bend office, I received a letter in the mail from Bend Dermatology saying that I was delinquent on my balance and that they made multiple attempts to collect but failed. This is completely untrue since I never received a phone call or voicemail message or letter in the mail. The ONLY communication from them regarding this was the letter saying I've been referred to their collection agency. Bend Dermatology charged me a $3.70 collection fee and I had to pay the collection agency $2.50 to pay the balance (which was $23.18) via credit card (checks are free) so I paid $6.20 more than the balance due to these shenanigans. Save yourself the inconvenience and incompetence of this business and look elsewhere. I should have looked at Yelp before making an appointment with Bend Dermatology as the low ratings (that are well earned) would have caused me to go somewhere else. BTW, my PCP referred me to Bend Dermatology so the next time I see her, I'll let her know that this is a disservice to her patients. read more

It's taken me nearly five months to sit down and write this review because I wanted to come from a place of clarity--not raw anger. I needed to focus on my daughter first, but I also feel a responsibility to share our experience for others who may be seeking care. I am a Bend native, and Bend Dermatology has always been the go-to in town. When my child was diagnosed with alopecia areata, we were referred there by another doctor. Unfortunately, our experience with the physician who specializes in alopecia areata was one of the most disappointing and upsetting medical experiences I've ever had. From the very first appointment, this doctor showed no bedside manner, no sensitivity, and no grace. My daughter and I left multiple visits in tears--feeling unheard, unseen, pushed, and disrespected. At one point, very private information about my daughter's diagnosis was spoken loudly from across the hall, leaving her embarrassed and humiliated. The language used was blunt, cold, and unnecessarily harsh for a vulnerable preteen. The doctor suggested procedures like scalp biopsies requiring stitches, explained in such a clinical and frightening way that my daughter felt terrified. When we asked about other options, she called in her superior--who confirmed that those procedures weren't even necessary and that alternatives existed. This contradiction only added more stress and confusion. What concerned me most was their push for my daughter to start a medication that wasn't FDA-approved for her age. She was 11 at the time, and the drug is only approved for 12+. The suggestion to start her on it early felt careless and dismissive of the very risks they themselves had emphasized regarding insurance approval, bloodwork, and safety protocols. Neither of us felt comfortable moving forward, and I was disturbed by the pressure to do so. To make sure it wasn't just me, my sister--who has decades of professional experience attending doctor's appointments with clients--came with us to one of the visits. She told me it was one of the worst appointments she'd ever witnessed. That, to me, speaks volumes. I will not name the doctor, but Bend Dermatology will know who I am referring to. What I will say is this: if you or your loved one is dealing with something as personal and vulnerable as alopecia areata, I strongly urge you to look elsewhere. Thankfully, we found a new dermatology office above the Old Mill that has been a complete breath of fresh air. They welcomed my daughter with compassion, validation, and professionalism, creating an environment where she felt safe and supported. The difference was night and day. Good riddance to Bend Dermatology. I would not recommend them for alopecia areata--or any condition that requires sensitivity, empathy, and respect. read more

The first thing out of their mouth is what insurance do you have? , oh you have pacific source... well you can be scheduled in September (6 months hs out) so if your on state health insurance good luck. Insurance company contacted them and still waiting for refund 6 weeks larter with a song and dance about all the departments and bank to get a refund and still can't give a date. I have previous dermatology experience with another practitioner.This office is difficult to reach as others have stated and although I waited several months for an appointment I never received login emails to Input my health history. Calls went unanswered and voicemails did not elicit a response. I went to the appointment early and completed the health history in office. I had a full body skin check done and some procedures performed but I had to point out some areas of concern that were overlooked. The process was rushed and in a few months will necessitate a follow up visit. Overall just so-so although the procedures performed were done competently. read more

Do not go to this business unless money is no object. My insurance was charged $250 lab fee for a simple biopsy. A month later, I received another bill for some special "stain" they used to read the biopsy. They charged my insurance $215 JUST FOR THE STAIN they used - a drop or two of stain was $215? And how is that not part of the 'lab' fee?? All of these charges were over and above the charge for the office visit. How can we stop this excessive billing by these medical institutions? There seems to be no boundaries to what they can charge- and we have no say in it. We just receive a bill in the mail for whatever they decide they want to charge us for. read more

Terrible billing practices, I went there a year ago, I have fabulous insurance. They hadn't finished receiving payments from my insurance. I paid what the insurance hadn't paid but was waiting for the last payment. It was't even a month. They turned me to collections. I wasn't happy and requested a printout of all my charges and payments from me and my insurance. I sent what information I had to the collection agency with the payment they requested. They have to give a percentage of what was paid to collection agency to the collection agency. I never heard from them again. Last week I needed to look something up about care on the patient portal and found I had $89 plus dollar credit. They drummed up more charges. Going to the OBME you should too! read more

Dr. May is terrific but making an appointment or even talking to anyone is frustrating to the point I have considered going elsewhere. Over a 3 month wait when booking on line?! It's even worse when you try to call in and are put on hold for 20 minutes and then go to voicemail. I never have received a call back. NO ever picks up their phone. if I could give them no stars I would. Went for treatment and was in the office for a total of 10 minutes and my bill was over $1200. My insurance paid and I was making monthly paymentsand I was sent to collections even though I was current with my payments. They said if I didn't have a payment plan set up that I would still be sent to collections. Why would I think I need a payment plan sent up when they were sending me statements and I was paying them electronically. Terrible business practices. I can only say this from my experience with Dr. William Delgado. I went in for a MOHS procedure. The first thing out of the gate, when he comes in is, he ask: "Where are we looking at?" ! WTH! I point to the area and he then marks it with a sharpie. Okay. Then he disappears to go work on someone else. Now understand we were there 10 minutes early, waited 30 minutes after appointment time, sat in room for 10 minutes, saw the Doctor for 2 minutes and he's gone! Medical Assistant comes in and sets up to numb me. Great! numbs me up and gets the doctor. He comes back and instead of actually shaving layers like I was told they would! He roughs and gouges, and of course not all of where they numbed! OUCH! Then he's gone again! Med Assistant said they got it all. Not even from the Doctor! Then he's back to close, sutures and gone again! Didn't even know he was done except he said have a good day from the door! I was done 90 minutes after my appointment time! So, let us tally the time, 50 minutes till he did the procedure, then 15-20 minutes for the results. Then 10-15 minutes to close. He definitely rushed the procedure! Saw my incision today when I took of the pressure bandage! Shocked! This guy is a butcher! DO NOT USE THIS PLACE!!!! I am including some pics! Please note the area of concern was at the top of the incision first two stitches! Nowhere near the mid to tip of nose! A routine sunspot removal procedure (liquid nitrogen) turned into disfigurement. I let Dr. May know about this 18 months ago when the scars turned atrophic, heavily textured, hyperpigmented and crepey skin. His overspraying of liquid nitrogen left me with deep pits, thick scabs that would fall off my legs because they were so heavy. I did not think that was normal at the time but what could I do? He gave me creams which helped a little with the pigmentation, but did not address any of the other issues. He told me this summer that I could get laser treatments now that Dr. Johnson was back. I was skeptical because lasers can cause more pigmentation. My consultation with Dr. Johnson was not good. She seemed disinterested in helping her place of employment and collegue in improving my skin without me paying for the corrective procedures. When I left she said, "Hey, I gave you this consultation for free!". I immediately let Dr. May and the manager Melissa know that the consultation did not go well and that I need to know how they are going to proceed with helping me fix the situation that is going on two years now. I gave them two weeks to respond to my request to reach out for next steps. Neither Dr. May nor Melissa bothered to reach out to me. It's really galling that despite my disfigurement, Dr. May's negligence and substandard care and Bend Dermatology's neglect and lack of care, they do not feel as if they need to make this right. I will never go back to this clinic and do not recommend this clinic. They do not care about you. read more

Alright, I rarely give really poor reviews. But, really awful experience with Matthew Trautman and Bend Dermatology. So I gotta. Won't let this go. Let's just say I'm done with Bend Derm and won't be returning. At first, Matthew Trautman "seemed" very professional, helpful and understanding the first few visits, and when I got put on Accutane, it only went downhill from there. First few months on it was fine, but once he changed dosages I started to feel the negative side effects of the drug, I called and called and called to try and get a hold of ANYBODY on his team, and they would never return my calls and if they DID, I would be at work and I can't answer then, which is why I told them to leave voicemails. Oh, don't get me started about trying to call them. You'll be on hold with 18+ people in front of you and usually you have to wait a hour, just for the front desk to say "We'll reach out to his team and they'll get back to you as soon as possible." Spoiler alert: they never get back to you. He didn't even leave a voicemail for FOR MY LAB RESULTS. That's kind of important right? Just a pathetic joke of a business, shitty practice all around. One more story, It got to the point, where my mother had to call front desk and the lady on the phone actually got snippy and rude with my mother, telling her they need a 24 hour window to call back. That time it was past the 24 hour window and still no word, so that's why she called. She claims they're "understaffed". But how is that my problem if I need to talk with Matthew about something urgent about my mental health, from the side effects with the drug? He doesn't have 30 seconds to leave a voicemail? In conclusion: I'd give this place a 0 star if I could, but sadly I can't. I wouldn't go to Matthew or Bend Dermatology in general. read more

On 11/27/23 my father-in-law was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma, which is a terminal brain tumor. On 12/1/23 he had a 6.5 hour surgery to remove as much of it as they could, then he came to live with me and my husband. We work full time and had family come in to take care of him and support him. We got a bill in the mail for $50 for a no-show for an appointment. When I called the office manager to ask to have the fee removed, she told me that she was unable to make that decision. He is now on Hospice, living out the end of his life, and we are paying off his medical bills, his burial fee, $7800/month for his skilled-living facility, and Bend Dermatology turned him in for collections. I got a bill for $59.50 from the agency. I'm disgusted by this. I would never recommend this shady business practice or company regardless of the doctors. read more

IPL treatment at Bend Dermatology Spa caused face blisters that swoll up badly and peeled. Sent photos of the reaction to the Spa manager in emails and she never replied. I'd had the treatment done before without the blistering or swelling. I followed up with a phone call, left a message and still no one returned the call. I had my annual skin check up appointment but wrote the wrong date down and missed the appt. This is a one time occurrence and I contacted the office to explain what happened and to reschedule. I rarely miss any of my doctor appts so this was quite unusual. I am disappointed that the clinic has sent me a $50 bill when my appts are always covered by my insurance. I have never been billed for a missed appt before, ever, but then I rarely miss any. I have left a message for the office manager. I am willing to pay $25 but not $50.00. I have been a client since I moved to Central Oregon over 2 years ago. Just want to give any future patients a heads up to what will happen. read more

First of all, I am reviewing the office staff - NOT any of the physicians (who definitely deserve better than they and their patients are getting form the office staff. I have been to this clinic only 3 times, but have had difficulty actually completing the appointments all 3 times. Here's what happens in a nutshell; your PCP refers you, but you can't get in until after the insurance approval expires. If you are lucky, you find out a couple of days before about this the day, and your wonderful PCP's assistant drops everything to reapply for an approval. If you are lucky (and the good money is on this), you find the afternoon before your appointment. If you can't get approval by your appointment, you get to go through this whole process again! The manage their co-pays and payments the a very unfriendly internet interface, and one that, in my experience hasn't communicated with the office. This resulted in the office staff telling me that my payments were "past due" - IN FRONT OF THE ENTIRE WAITING ROOM. As it turned out, they were wrong due to lack of communication between the payment group and the office, but hardly made the situation less embarrassing and less private. When I stopped by to discuss this (erroneous) public call-out with an office staff person, I was told that "there is a sign in the waiting room stating that conversations can't be guaranteed to be private"; this was their "apology" despite the fact that I didn't initiate this conversation and I wasn't offered any choice but to address their erroneous accusation publicly. Again, the physicians and medical staff are outstanding and very professional. But, unfortunately, I will not be returning see them. read more

Have you ever thought you had melanoma? It's an unsettling experience, scary to know you have a spot on your skin that is trying to kill you! Now imagine having melanoma & not being able to get in touch with your dermatologist for followup questions and further details about your scheduled surgery and cancer status. When you finally get to your surgery appointment after weeks of trying to contact your dermatologist with no reply, you discover you don't have melanoma after all, and do not need a surgery. AND you find out your bill for this emotional rollercoaster is more than three times what you were expecting to pay based on the ranges quoted on their website! This is what happened to me at Bend Dermatology. The dermatologist I saw was through & professional, but that was the only part of my interaction with Bend Dermatology that went well. Everything else has been a nightmare, from a miscommunication about having cancer, to a larger than expected bill, to being charged for a medically unnecessary office visit in which I discovered I did not need a surgery that day (I had to pay for the dermatologist to apologize to me), to months of unreturned phone calls and unresolved billing issues. I hope this office can take a long hard look at their disfunction and communication issues so other patients don't have to go through the terrible experience I am going through. It sure is hard to forgive a business who led you to believe you had cancer for weeks and still won't return your calls. My time has not been valued, my requests for communication have been ignored and mishandled repeatedly, and on top of it all I still have to pay this business my hard earned money. I'll never trust this place with my health again, and wish I had never stepped foot inside this clinic. read more

Like Dr. Neuhaus, but the office is a disaster. They are booked out over 6 months, you stay on hold when calling forever, and worst of all, major billing issues. My husband had a follow up appointment to remove more skin ca, and didn't realize his referral had expired. They didn't let us know, so got billed the whole amount. When trying to fix this, we did also have issues with the primary care office, so not totally BDC's fault, but they should have checked the referral date. Our insurance company finally paid off this clinic about a month ago, still have not received a refund from their billing department. read more

I called today to make an appointment and held for 30 minutes when i was caller #1 my call was redirected to the overflow voice mail. Seriously, I was caller #1 and you transferred me to voice mail. I'm afraid I couldn't recommend this practice in good conscience. Perhaps it was just the perfect storm but I was very disappointed in the care. My care began with a biopsy that was + basal cell carcinoma, which would have been missed had I not pointed it our AFTER my annual skin exam. Then I had the excision and my incision line became infected requiring 3 antibiotics over 2 months. To this day, the doctor that performed the surgery has not so much as called to check on my progress. His Assistant was rude and dismissive when I called in so I finally scheduled a visit with another physician at the practice for a re-check. I am a strong self-advocate but another patient that perhaps was not as assertive and insisted on being seen may not have had a the same outcome. I find this unacceptable and will not be returning. It's back to Portland for me. I would like to thank Dr. Neuhaus and Johnson for stepping in and seeing me in the clinic. read more

Wow - The front desk at check-in was extremely rude on 5/16/22. I have 10 years of experience in clinical front desk (Stanford, St. Charles) and could not believe how poorly I was treated. The portal rarely works, and nobody knows how to address problems with technology. The hold times are long and when you get through it sometimes disconnects. Although I like my doctor, the organization is poorly trained and the technology is sub-par. It's too painful to be a patient so am looking elsewhere. Really disappointing experience. I wasn't confident the aesthetician knew what she was doing. She didn't wash her hands. There was no explanation during the process. The VI peel took maybe 10 minutes. I waited longer in the waiting room than it took for my actual appointment. When you spend that much on a treatment you at least expect to be offered water. My first visit to Bend Dermatology, I would say I was a mess. My skin had something on it, very painful and ugly. I felt as though it was spreading and I couldn't get control of it. When Ali and Kim walked in the room and saw my skin Ali knew immediately what it was and started me on medication. Along with that I found that they cared about my well being. I would not waste your time with this clinic. They do not value your time. I have always waited 15- 30 minutes after my appointment is supposed to start before I ever get called back. Pretty much done with this dog and pony show. The flamboyant office manager is over the top with drama. They're ability to coordinate and be flexible around my work schedule has been one of the reasons i keep returning. The second reason is Dr May. He has provided me with excellent care and feedback. His honesty, his being present for my questions and his knowledge are the pivotal reasons i keep coming back. I would highly recommend Dr. May and staff at Bend Dermatology for your skin care needs. A WARNING: I have had basal skin cancer removed several times by different doctors including Bend Dermatology. At no time did the bill exceed $500. I recently had this skin cancer removed from my cheek. The procedure lasted about an hour, most of the time was spent waiting on lab results. The bill was nearly $5000, about $1000 of which was not covered by my insurance. My fault for not clarifying the costs beforehand, but I had no idea a single hours work would result in such a ridiculous charge. I complained to a representative from the clinic about the charge and the lack of notification of such a bill--to no avail. The usual institutional pass-the-buck, "I'll inform the manager." Of course, the manager never responded. LESSON LEARNED: Get the charges clarified up front and shop around! read more

Great experience today! My daughters (5 and 7.5) recently started asking when they could get their ears pierced. At the suggestion of a friend, we scheduled appointments at DermaSpa for them. When scheduling, I told them that my youngest seems to be bravest and so we took an AM appt for her and then a PM appt for my oldest. 1st appointment was pretty flawless and we left with smiles! In the afternoon, we dealt with a lot more tears and anxiousness. Kristi was SO patient, kind, and reassuring and we eventually got both ears done and she is just as happy. Thank you Kristi for hanging in there with a smile on your face and for going above and beyond to show "A" that it wouldn't be so bad!! I will happily send other friends your way! read more

I won't be going back to this clinic for any skin issues. The female doctor was short she told me I had" wart" like things on my body and would likely be getting more but didn't offer any solutions. I asked about another area of concern she said it was likely gene's and again didn't offer any solutions. I felt like I was taking up her time and that she just wanted to get through the day. Biggest mistake of my Life. I went to Bend Dermatology in January of 2017 and am still feeling the effects. I went for screening and was told i had several things that need further attention. I wound up going 2 or 3 more times for procedures that took about 15 minutes. They told me that my insurance was covered there and that they were in network. Well, 2 thousand dollars later and numerous calls from a bill collector later they are demanding another 2 thousand dollars because apparently they were not in network or sent my blood work out of network. It has been a nightmare for me the last 2 years having to deal with this. Now they want to bring me to small claims court. Horrible Horrible Horrible. I will never go to Bend Dermatology ever again. On top of everything, I really don't trust them and don't think they needed to perform most of what they did. I go to a different dermatology clinic now and they have not called me back for any issues. I really do not trust them and I think they lied to me. There are plenty of other skin care doctors in town, go to them instead. So in addition to my review above the icing on the cake is I had to call them for my bills so I could have them ready for small claims court. I spoke to their billing department and the said they would have them for me at the front desk. Well, here I am at the front desk and it comes as no surprise that my request for my copies were not here. Again, biggest mistake of my life coming here.
