Super solid sandwich! It's in a great spot when traveling as it's right off the 101 - about a minute getting on and off, couldn't ask for better! We both did the roast beef sandwich and enjoyed it. We did one hot and the other cold. Both were packed with lots of goodies from veggies to meat. It was a good sandwich but nothing crazy above average but it was good. Nice staff and clean bathrooms too if you're a fellow road tripper. The sandwiches were $13.99 each. read more

Old sandwich shop that looks like a converted gas station or small paint shop. Odd actually, and the strangest parking lot ever -- yikes. But, I like. Sandwiches are reasonable priced, $11-13, for a loaded 6". Really good (ATC, turkey & avo). But what is outstanding is their Krispy Krunchy Chicken -- oh yeah! Fried chicken pieces including HUGE $3 each tenders. Love. I'll be back. read more

Extremely unsatisfied with the result of my sandwich. Looked online for an easy lunch and saw this sandwich and thought yum! Not what I was expecting. The "turkey" looks smells and tastes like canned chicken from Costco read more

I've been on a sandwich hunt all year for the best Turkey Sandwich and decided to give this spot a try. Parking was easy with a little lot in front, ambiance is dated and very casual, and the customer service was quite good with a friendly guy behind the register. I opted for the "build your own sandwich" option and had Turkey & provolone on wheat. All the veggies were fresh, the turkey was pretty good, and the wheat bread was standard like something you'd get at a grocery. This Sando was a little basic and forgettable, but a great value at $12.99. Due to the great customer service and pricing I'm giving this spot a 4, though it's really between a 3 - 4 for me. read more

Lived in this area of my entire life. Get in my car worked on next-door decided to come check it out. For several years they've been known for their sandwiches, but they changed it up a year and a half ago for their fried chicken. I must tell you probably the best chicken I've ever had. Not greasy and very tasty. So much flavor in every bite in the chicken was not dry at all. Very moist. The establishment is very clean. Most of all Daniela the server was very patient and kind and explained to me all the details and a little history about their chicken. Their biscuits with honey are to die for. They weren't quite ready yet and she brought it out to me as I waited patiently. If it wasn't for people like Daniela, it's customers like me that will not come back, but she is so kind and patient. She will always have me as a loyal customer, especially for the first time here. I wish more people would hire people like her. Thank you for making my first visit amazing. read more

This is less a sandwich place than a chicken place now. Their chicken takes center stage - and honestly - it didn't look that good. Think 7-Eleven style chicken under warming lights. But I did get a veggie sub which was excellent - although the mayo and mustard made the bread soggy it was still delicious. I also got a small container of pasta salad which tasted and appeared freshly made with a lot of veggies in it. The service was quick and kind - the girl in the kitchen saw the long line of people ordering and walked my sandwich out to me - that was nice! The place is no-frills inside, but they have a large painting on one wall with a cartoonish purple dragon on it - could be cool for a pic or two with your kids. read more

I've been going to Ben Franklin's for over 30 years, but ever since it sold, it's just not the same. The classic numbered sandwiches--like my longtime favorite, the #11--are gone. The new focus seems to be on fried chicken, which feels totally out of place for what was once a beloved sandwich shop. The bread has changed (not for the better), and the Turkey Ortega now comes with chopped canned chilies instead of the long, flavorful Ortega strips they used to use. They toast it now, when it used to be warmed--yes, there's a difference, and it matters. On top of that, they've removed the iconic purple dragon artwork that helped give the place its charm. Ordering online on their own website? That'll cost you extra, which makes zero sense when phoning in the same order is free--so much for convenience. They call the extra charge a 'convenience charge' for placing your order online when it is only saving Ben Franklin's time. I've given it about five chances since the ownership change, and each time has been a letdown. My last sandwich was a sad attempt at recreating the old #11 and was drowned in watery mayo and mustard. It's a real shame--this used to be one of my favorite spots, and the location is still super convenient. But the heart of Ben Franklin's is gone. read more

Staff were very friendly and the food was great. The sandwich's are bigger than you'd expect. Thanks again!

Great sandos. Love the fact it is privately owned and not a chain. Their breads are great, especially the sourdough rolls. The meats and cheeses are fresh, as are the sides. Highly recommended read more

Decided to try a new deli place just to venture out and support another local deli shop. I was greatly disappointed overall, I was hopeful since most reviews were positive. It may have been an off day. Service was OK, there was a younger gentleman this Saturday evening newish I think? Seemed flustered and overwhelmed with 3 orders. We were fine and patient with him. Well, either we ordered wrong or the order was inputted wrong. We ordered 2 specialty sandwiches, and he kept asking about the bread and sauces, etc. ? From my experience from other deli places specialty sandwiches have the items chosen out already unless your "Building your own." No need to pick unless you're going to omit. Anyhow, I ordered their special (pastrami, strip with a sauce on marble, toasted), hubby their specialty Rueben toasted, and son his tuna melt. All 3 was $60 w/chips. Dry,dry, dry. Mine had the wrong bread, which could be overseen If it tasted good. Sauce only on 1 side the other dry. The Rueben did not come toasted and dry. Tuna melt was OK. We ended up throwing the majority away, leaving hungry. Worse experience, I would not come back. I will stick to my usual deli place. read more

I used to come here extremely often and the staff were always amazing and polite and the food was amazing. I came in on a Saturday and I waited for a sandwich order for 40 minutes!!! I walked up to ask about the status of the order and the girl at the counter had left it sitting there the entire time and didn't call my order. Mind you, there were only a few people in the restaurant. It was not slammed with people. She was polite about it and apologized though....the bigger concern was that the whole place has a lot of baby flies flying around and landing on food. It's not a good sign from a sanitation perspective :( read more

Love this place. Sandwiches are amazing! I pick Ben Franklin's over High Street! I highly recommend you won't be disappointed!

Oh goodness! I just had the best experience... from customer service to food. I had a Too GooD To Go order to pick up. It was my first time At Ben Franklin's and I've been wanting to try it. I walked in and it's a cute little shack of a restaurant with tables inside and out- and smells divine. The man that was inside was super nice! For my Too Good To Go he made me a cold Italian sandwich. I shared it with my friend in a parking space on Marsh sweet. We both took a bite and just looked at each other and sighed. This was the best sandwich we had ever eaten. The roll was warm and fresh- i think it was French bread- I'm not good with bread names- the veggies were super fresh and the meat combination was tasty. It's a huge sandwich. They had potato salad, macaroni salad- and I saw they serve fried chicken. I will definitely be back. I have no photos cause I ate everything... sorry. read more

First time here. Sandwich shops galore in SLO so I've got to try them all!! Not a very cheerful young woman taking orders although the owner handed me my sandwich with a great smile and the service was quick. Chip variety is off the chart. The sandwiches offered all look good or you can build your own. I ordered the Ben's ATC. I found it difficult to eat. The avocado was thick and made the other sandwich toppings slide around. It was messy after the first two bites. Very annoying so I just started eating the insides by hand. An older gentleman commented while I was waiting for my order that he ate his with a fork and knife. Now I know what he meant!! Wish I would have had his utensils.... I'll not order that sandwich next time. read more

Always so yummy. The new chicken is soooo good. Dutch crunch bread is my fav. Tritip special is a must try.

My wife and I had sandwiches from Ben Franklin's on Saturday around noon. Where do I start? The bread was stale and testless. The tomato was flavorless. The lettuce was wilted. The bacon was not fully cooked. The turkey was not as good as packaged store bought. And the mayonnaise... all four tablespoons per sandwich. Pretty gross. We will never eat there again! You should not either!!! read more

Got the BBQ chicken 14 inches with all the fixings. This sandwich was big and very delicious. Trying to eat this in public is something you don't want to do. You need to go home where you can really get down and gobble this beautiful monstrosity up. I needed a fork to catch what I was dropping. It was so flavorful and moist. The BBQ chicken was delicious and not dry at all. I will definitely order this again but will have to take it home. read more

The other day I got the Ben's ATC sandwich which has turkey, the works, scoop of veggie mix and cream cheese on marbled rye bread. It was so darn good. I liked this place so much I came back the following day to try their Tuna sandwich with the works & mix veggies. The tuna itself was pretty good & complimented well with the oil & vinegar. Way better then the tuna sandwich I order at subway. Subway got nothing on these sandwiches lol. I also got myself their AMS sandwich before I left town which has all of their meats & mozzarella cheese. The meats were all so tasty & fresh. Definitely recommend this one as it's clearly a winner! I also ordered their side of chicken noodle soup. It was decent however you can save those calories for the sandwiches. This place is hands down the best sandwich spot I have ever tried & will be returning when I'm in town again. read more
