Attacked by a dog at the vets and literally had to ask for bandaids and told by staff to just wait.

Listen up people...sadly Vets are a service where the staff know we need them and decided to treat patients with very little regard. 2 weeks ago I came in as a walk in because staff said come in before 3pm to be seen. I arrived at 8:30am. What they didnt say was i would have to wait till 4pm be seen. Had an appt today...still had to get put in as a walk in as a walk in. Arrived at 9:20am and dtill waiting with no updates or word as to when. To boot...I was attacked by a dog in the waiting room, the dog actually broke skin....i was bleeding and the staff didnt even offer a bandaid...i had to ASK for it even tho i had blood dripping down my leg. WTF is going on here? This place is horrible. People...I hear the Salado clinic is faster, friendlier, and cheaper.

They kept me informed, explained his treatment and medications, and helped me understand how to care for him at home. I am so grateful for the excellent care they provided and for making this worried dog mom feel at ease.

He had his vitals taken with a stethoscope and weight taken. No other assessment or exam. Dr. Pritchett directed me to call and pay (additional $110) a toxicologist at ASPCA for them to direct her on how to treat the dog (what do they teach in vet school then?) ... was on hold waiting to hear from "toxicologist" for one hour during which my dog was alert and vitals normal. I decided he was probably ok and that I'd go ahead and pay the consult fee then. She sent me a bill with an extra $87 charge for "blood pressure reading". When I asked her where that $87 charge comes from on top of the exam fee and if they pay a subscription for their blood pressure machine or stethoscope or something she had no answer and said she'd take the charge off since she only quoted me the exam fee. What the heck does the exam fee include then if not vitals?! Also... how do you not know how a common med affects a dog when you went to vet school? Yikes!

We had taken him to another Emergency Animal Hospital in Round Rock, but they recommended to use our veterinarian for lower costs. While they were correct on the costs, unfortunately his veterinarian was not able to get him into surgery. It would have saved us probably like $6,000. I will say this emergency animal hospital did an excellent job in caring for our rottie, they kept us informed and provided us all the details we needed to know up front to includes. They also use Cherry for payment plans if you cannot afford the upfront costs. I know my wife worried we were going to have to euthanized him. The thought did cross our mind. But our rottie is very young and since he swallowed a small rubber ball that one of our neighbors through over the fence accidentally and it was in a location that it was retrievable for from his small intestine and stomach area. Post operation he did well in recovery and was ready to come home. This emergency hospital made us and our rottweiler feel like family. They were all very understanding and caring. I would recommend them again. I highly recommend for all pet owners to invest in pet insurance. You never know when you are going to need it for emergencies like we experienced.

I spoke with Martha over the phone, and she was able to set up an appointment with an internal medicine vet for less than a week later. The waiting area is large, and there's a small space for isolating cats (in carriers, of course). This was appreciated. Once in a room, a vet tech asked thorough questions and took notes. Then our cat was whisked away for an exam by Dr. Hoh, a veterinary internal medicine specialist. Our cat was returned to the room and Dr. Hoh came in to speak with us. Her many years of experience, combined with our observations, changed the course of treatment for our cat. For the time being, we will be taking a more conservative approach and reporting back to the internist in a few weeks. As it turned out, the person I initially spoke with over the phone checked us out when we left. Martha was just as friendly and helpful in person as she was over the phone. Places like this are not cheap to visit, but given we were not in an emergency situation and the fact that a specialist was involved it was not at all unreasonable. More importantly, we were greatly relieved and are cautiously optimistic about our cat's prognosis.

My friend had the same terrible experience as I did so this is not just a one off. The doctor will never speak to you or see you after the initial first visit, he will just examine your dog for 5 minutes. The nurse will then report back whatever he says without seeming like she has even the slightest knowledge about your pets history. This was for a $1,200+ visit too. Dr. Dolan always seemed to be out of the office when I would call for my critical dogs condition as well. Also, be aware that the oncology department does not work on Fridays at this office. Even if your dog goes to their ER on a Friday with a serious problem, the Oncologist's nurse won't be able to speak with you until Monday. I had called with serious concerns about my dog on a Thursday and again just spoke to the nurse and not the Doctor. They made it seem like his symptoms weren't an issue but come to find out it was a major sign that my dog's tumor was rupturing. Have I heard from Dr. Dolan since knowing that my dog was taken into their ER that Friday and had to be put down? Nope. Because they do not care about you or your pet. Just the amount of money you give them. We also had an issue where they double charged us over $1,000 too and we had no idea for over a month. I found out at a separate ER visit from the nurse. So always check your statements! My dog had radiation treatment for his tumor at VCA and Dr. Treuil was truly incredible. He took the time to speak with me over the phone and the staff even reached out to me when they saw my dog went to the AVES ER for an eye ulcer. We were going to switch to VCA oncology since we heard great things about them, but unfortunately my dog passed before we could make the change. Please think twice before going to AVES because you will more than likely regret it.
