We did exhaustive research before deciding on SR. Both times! It is truly one of a kind. It is absolutely beautiful! Feels like a luxury resort! The grounds, units, clubhouse, restaurants are beautiful! The dining experience is like no other facility! A five star restaurant! Residents are treated with great respect. All the time. By ALL the employees. SR goes the distance to take care of their residents. Valet services of all kinds made our parents feel cared for, at the same time, maintaining their independence. Easy maintenance, weekly cleaning, emergency call buttons in every room of their condo makes life so much easier for them! AND, the real estate transactions were so easy and straight-forward! Angela took care of us for our three transactions (two times purchasing, one time selling). She is extremely knowledgeable about SR. She was great at reading our parents and their needs. You see and feel the relationship[s build between us. The attention paid to preferences and recognition and care of physical conditions. The building isn't the most modern around the edges - But that doesn't really matter, ones former home sometimes was too. However the garden is really lovely - a green and peaceful place where the birds come and drink at the fountain where we can sit with our friends and family and watch entertainment provided by the management. And the FOOD (no small matter) is good! Definitely several cuts above what one expects of an institution of this sort. All in all, by most standards. It was only through the gracious help from another resident that enabled her to start getting around the place. But still minimal response from staff & management. * When she went on Hospice, they up'ed her monthly rent by about $800. When she repeatedly asked what she was getting for the $800... no response. Finally she was informed it was for her daily phone calls to check on her. I'm sure there had to be other benefits, but really... none. I cannot recommend this place.

The residents are contented and friendly. Their Assisted Living neighborhood has continued to have deficiency-free surveys for many years. Their skilled nursing (Health Center) has been named by U.S. News & World Report as a "Best Nursing Home" for several years and they remain a five star rated (the highest) skilled nursing by Medicare and the California Department of Public Health. If I were to need help or assistance, I would choose The Tamalpais.

While there is room for improvement with the med techs, and the move-in process could benefit from clearer communication and better explanations upfront, the compassion and care we received outweighed those challenges. ED Pari was understanding, professional, and supportive during difficult moments. She was taken to Marin General Hospital ( my niece was never informed, which she should have been). She was diagnosed with severe dehydration and the beginnings of sepsis. Don't you think that since she wore diapers that someone should have noticed that she had no urine output? She was in such bad shape that she had to be temporarily intubated and the doctors were afraid that her kidneys were going to fail, which fortunately they didn't. There are other details which I can't divulge but which may implicate this facility in a legal matter. If you value your loved one's life DO NOT SEND THEM to this facility.
