Date of service 9/15/23. Today's date 5/30/23. Balancing billing, me which is illegal in Texas, for $72,954.32. Max for a hospital stay is $250 with my insurance. Fortunately or unfortunately, in the Spring of 2023, I hit all of my out of pocket costs with insurance. I didn't owe anything to any provider for the rest of 2023. Update: BCBD says Bellaire ER never received this bill from them. It is a fake bill. They originally billed insurance in September. They are past the date for billing insurance as well. The Billing Manager is conveniently not there. Front desk said, "hopefully she can get back to me and insurance." Buyer Beware. Don't go here! When did doctors stop healing and start scamming?!

WORTH THE READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IF I COULD GIVE THEM LESS THAN 1 star I would! DO NOT GO HERE ESPECIALLY IF YOU DONT HAVE INSURANCE! -The nurse MONIQUE NEEDS TO BE FIRED!! -THEY LIE AND STEAL MONEY (read other comments) - There system for people without insurance is NONEXISTENT - Putting FEAR IN THE SICK is their strategy -IF YOU ARE IN PAIN LIKE I WAS AND UNABLE TO REALLY COMMUNICATE DO NOT GO ALONE DONT LET THEM BRING TO THE BACK ALONE HAVE SOMEONE WITH YOU TO AVOID ALL THE BS I WENT THROUGH THE ENCOUNTER: I check in on the 7/24! Whole time I was there they gave me a CT and Ultrasound I had issue where my stomach was swollen. I was there for hours and the doctor NEVER CAME TO GIVE ME ANY RESULTS (Dr. Rosell). With the little to no information they gave me as I sat in the back in pain I ask if they would allow my guest (no one there but us) to come to the back the nurse repeatedly told me they'd have to ask the DOC bc they were no sure due to COVID no one came back to give me an answer. After asking them what's going on they gave me empty answers. Then they finally told me I need to be transferred to St. Luke in bc they believe I needed surgery on my gallbladder (BIG SPECULATION for absolutely nothing to be wrong with my GB at all) I'm a 22yr mom my first thought was the cost of the ride. So I instantly told them I would like to refuse the ride WHICH IS MY RIGHT I had plenty of guest there (no one even told me) I could get there in 15 mins! THE NURSE SAID VERBATIM "The doctor says you must ride in the ambulance because you are at risk of DYING" So now a million thing is running through my head bc if you can say that the why have I just been sitting in this run and there are no other patients! So I walk out of my room to speak with the doctor who is sitting behind the computer who can barely look me in the eyes and ask him do I have to ride in the ambulance because I just paid 3,550$ UPFRONT and Ik the ride with be another GRAND or so! He tells me it will be a couple HUNDRED and that if I would refuse the ride that I wouldn't have a room at the hospital I was being transferred too (but I'm dying?????). I had no strength to rebuttal. I asked how much longer he called out to the nurse and ask "Hey have we called the ambulance yet?" 30-45mins go by the ambulance arrive I'm transferred. ONCE IM AT ST LUKE NO ONE HAS ANY RESULTS FROM BELLAIRE so my friend go to get a receipt and the lady types one up in front of him. It's 6/27 I'm released from St Luke but my stomach is still swollen a lot better than what it was but it's noticeable bc I'm tiny. So I call Bellaire Er bc I want to know if they saw any swelling in the test the lovely guy at the front transfers me to the nurse MONIQUE who is they'll me I'm mot in the system I have the wrong location atp I'm frustrated bc she keeps cutting me off not letting me explain who I am and how I paid. So atp we are yelling on the phone bc I'm in pain she a damn nurse I just spent all this money the least you can do is shutup and try to give me the information and make this a smooth process! This lady HANGS UP IN MY FACE NOT ONCE BUT 3 times!!!!! The last call we had she told me there was no Doctor THERE (at a 24 ER like come on anyone who be ballistic at this point) she also tells me we found your results and everything was no responsive... My sister calls to explain to the guy at the front desk who obviously kept transferring me when she kept hanging up and he explained he didn't know that what was going on and to have me call back! So at this point I started recording all calls and the change in little Miss Monique was OUTSTANDING! Luckily I have recordings. PLEASE IF YOU CAN GO SOMEWHERE ELSE PLEASE DO ITS NOT FAIR FOR THESE FACILITIES TO TAKE PPL MONEY AND TREAT PEOPLE LIKE SHIT AFTERWARDS AND ITS DAMN SURE NOT RIGHT TO HAVE A NURSE SPEAK TO ANY ONE THEY WAY THE NURSE DID TO ME. BELLAIRE ER WILL REGERT THIS AND PRAY THE SWEET NICE NURSE WHO ACTUALLY WANT TO HELP INDIVIDUALS OVERCOME AND WATER OUT THE ONE WHO DOESN'T DESERVE THE TITLE!

The time taken to explain the illness, treatment protocol, medication dosing, need for return if symptoms worsen in both verbal and written method assured we had complete understanding how to care for ourselves on discharge. The quick response placing my daughter in a room from the lobby, exam, and lab tests was impressive. This group of professionals from registration, to MD, NP, RN, and lab could give a seminar on how to provide excellence in care to Free Standing and hospital based ER's. Its the standard others should strive for none less. After they got testing back with her permission they told us we were at risk, due to the type infection and our exposure to her sickness. We were tested and prescribed prophylaxis as recommended by CDC which checked the box for standards of care as well. Healthcare treatment is a choice and as an Registered Nurse myself working over 40 plus years in critical care and ED sometimes your experience is far less than desired or standards of care. Today as a family we were lucky to choose Rice Emergency Room. We are from out of town just blindly walked in but if I lived in Houston Rice ED would be my first choice for care. My decision would not only be from a patient's perspective but as a Healthcare professional. I did not disclose I was a nurse there was no need to. Thank each of you Rice ED staff .

However, about a week later, I received a report via email from my healthcare provider written by River Oaks. The report showed there was no issue and basically "clear". Several days later, I visited my medical provider again and we discussed the Radiologist's report, initially saying it was good news. My doctor pulled up the report from the system containing the imaging as well (probably the hospitals portal) and it was a vastly different report based on the same MRI. This one identified a suspicious lesion, potentially cancer related. He contacted the hospital and found the second one was the correct one. Unknown how this could be possible - receiving two separate reports with two opposite impressions. I called River Oaks Hospital and was disconnected while speaking with the call-taker the first 4 times I called. Finally, on the fifth call I was transferred to the first line supervisor who took my information promised to send my requests to the manager of Radiology for the reasoning behind the two reports and how it could happen. This is greatly troubling and should not occur. Then to be "disconnected" 4 times within 20 minutes, each trying to explain to a different call taker the problem before being finally connected to someone. I would think twice about ever using this facility for any health related issues. I know I will not do so ever again. I'm still awaiting word from the hospital. I am not happy with the response and will be seeking reimbursement for the MRI as now I feel I cannot trust either of the reports I received and will be getting another one from a different imaging / radiology company. I will update this review with their response to my requests for reimbursement as I'm uninsured and paid out of pocket for this procedure.

Of course you don't get rest in a hospital but they made sure to try to make it comfortable. That room in my opinion was prehistoric. Nothing about that room gave labor and delivery. It was very small and cramped. Tv remote had to be switched out because that wasn't working the first hour. The sleep sofa was in an odd space. But once I delivered I was moved to a recovery room in the jones building. The room was much nicer, but small. The limit is four guest but to be honest that's too much. I also love the celebration menu for the new parents. Steak, lobster Mac and cheese, spinach and key lime cheese cake. A very good reward after not being on a clear liquid diet for two days.

After undergoing a planned 12-hour reconstructive surgery, the level of post-operative care I…read moreexperienced raised serious concerns for me about patient safety. Recovering from a procedure of that magnitude requires attentive monitoring and compassionate care. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. I was shuffled around for a room and then placed in a very small room and often felt largely left on my own during my stay. The staff was poorly equipped to handle my recovery. The lack of knowledge was infuriating. They would crush time released medications and I was told if I didn't take it then I would have to stay in pain. (My mouth was wired shut and it was like battery acid with the syringe. They didn't care.) There were long periods where I struggled to get assistance, and the level of attentiveness from staff did not reflect the seriousness of my condition. I would consider the care here unethical and inhumane. I also observed that my room was not cleaned consistently during my stay, which is alarming for a surgical patient where infection prevention should be a priority. What troubled me most was the lack of compassion and responsiveness from most members of the staff. After undergoing such a major operation, patients should feel supported and cared for. Instead, I frequently felt like an inconvenience rather than someone recovering from extensive surgery. Hospitals should be places where patients feel safe and supported during their stay. I hope the administration takes feedback like this seriously and works to improve the quality of care provided to not only surgical patients but all patients. You can tell who's there for just a paycheck.

Yelp shows me a prompt, "what could improve?" Here's my answer: BELIEVE WOMEN. Treat women as if…read moreyou actually believe them. Ask questions in such a way that you signal you are willing to believe. In the early 1970s I was placed in a facility at this physical location. It has changed hands many times. The location and the physical buildings are just as I recall. The people, the management team, the corporate face and name have all changed. I seem to recall it was a general medical facility at that time, but it did have a locked psych ward. Other contemporary reviews suggest the attitude has not changed. I was punished by my mother for being in a deep clinical depression. I was "diagnosed" as schizophrenic (a catch-all back then for "we're clueless.") My mother added language that I was a slut and a liar, etc. I was kept under observation for 2+ weeks, and threatened with electroshock therapy. I slapped a smile on my face and acted like I was perfectly happy to be there, to avoid "treatment." I'm sure it would have been profitable for me to have stayed there much longer. There was another patient in the same locked psych ward, in his 40s or 50s. He had been admitted for treatment to a locked psych ward, where several teenage girls including me were housed. His alternative was jail time, because he was a convicted child molester. Somebody in management must have agreed this was a good idea, and took no precautions to avoid the inevitable. He molested me. I was not stupid. A schizophrenic lying slut would not have been believed. Institutional prestige would have been damaged, revenues compromised. My mother was hell-bent on punishing me for responding as I did to her poor parenting skills. I prioritized my own sanity over justice. I did what I had to, acted adorable, sweet and innocent, and never looked back. Sort of a secular version of "Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey." I needed to get out, and could not risk what I saw as clear signals that I would be disbelieved, and silenced for my efforts. I brute-forced my life back on track, made a number of self-sabotaging decisions that could have killed me, and managed to appear externally successful, although I could have done more in my career. There is no possible apology or remedy for the harm I have suffered. Maybe management is no longer that stupid. Maybe there are good people and good patient experiences to be had. Yelp reviews tend to skew to strongly-held feelings, either good or bad. But the sorts of things I'm seeing in the reviews here make me think there's carryover--whether at this specific place, or in the field of mental health care generally. I am writing this review partly as an amends to my 16-year-old self. This review has taken me literally over 50 years to compose. I also want to flag a possible continued attitude I find horrifying: not believing women. I want to warn people that I have read enough research about the mental health field and how they treat children. I have additional firsthand experience about the failings of the mental health field from my time as a caregiver to my life-partner. (After all the drugs, labels, and shaming for "not doing the work," turns out she was actually early onset Alzheimer's.) I know that my experience was not entirely unusual. You want to improve? Believe women. I was not able to articulate what I was experiencing at that time. But I did know quite clearly what was going on. Believe women.

I expected compassion and basic medical care, but instead I left feeling humiliated, ignored, and unsafe. Although the doctor briefly spoke with me, no physical exam of any kind was performed. When I asked for assistance to the restroom because I was struggling to walk, one of the nurses simply pointed down the hall and didn't accompany me. I nearly collapsed while trying to get back out of the bathroom and was screaming in pain, yet that same nurse rolled her eyes and walked over slowly before finally helping me into a wheelchair. It was clear she did not care and found me to be an inconvenience. Another nurse, Sonny, was also incredibly rude and lacked compassion entirely. She seemed annoyed by my questions and at one point even said, "Well what do you want me to do about it?" I understand it was a holiday and the staff may not have wanted to be there -- but I certainly didn't want to be there either. I was in a medical crisis and deserved to be treated with basic empathy, not dismissal. The only person who provided quality care was a nurse named Mohammad, who was kind, attentive, and treated me like a human being. I am genuinely grateful for him. Unfortunately, the actions of the rest of the staff overshadowed everything else. I felt vulnerable, helpless, and disbelieved throughout the experience. This clinic made me feel like my pain didn't matter and like I was a burden for needing help. I would not recommend this clinic to anyone, and I believe this location is a disgrace to the Houston Methodist brand. No patient should ever be treated the way I was treated.
