I suffer from chronic nerve impingement since an accident I had a few years ago. Over this past weekend I was in Houston visiting some family and I was in pain the whole trip because of the nerve. I wanted to make sure I got acupuncture to help with the pain before I flew back to la. I stopped here and I'm glad I did. He was quick, took me same day, diagnosed my pain and I left feeling totally relaxed thanks to a needle place in my temple he referred to as "a happy point". I was very skeptical about Acupuncture at first when my girlfriend suggested it as a way to help with my back pain but figured I would give it a chance. So I got online and started looking and came across Han Acupuncture, man am I glad I did. John is a very friendly guy and knows what he is doing. I have been 3 times and my back is feeling better than it has every felt in the last 5 years. I had basically accepted living with the pain, but not anymore. I had my first treatment this week, and I was amazed at the results. I went to see John because for years I have suffered from incredible joint pain, difficulty sleeping, anxiety, and depression. After completing a detailed record of my medical history, John reviewed it with me, asking several in depth questions, and getting a better understanding of my health issues. Next, he explained to me where and why he would place the needles, and throughout the procedure made sure that I was comfortable. At the end of the visit my joint pain had decreased somewhat, and John explained that it would get better with each treatment. That was great and all, but what really ensured that I would be back is how much my mood improved. It was like a switch had been thrown. I felt calm, and for the first time in several months I experienced what can only be described as contentment. These effects have yet to wear off, and better still is that I have been consistently sleeping through the night. I have read several studies that failed to find any evidence that acupuncture is effective in treating mood disorders, but I can attest to the fact that it worked for me. While there is the possibility of the placebo effect, I am skeptical of this because I didn't go in to be treated for my mood disorders. I only expected some relief from my physical pain, but the actual effects were much more encompassing. I am on several antidepressants and other drugs, but at best, they only get me through the day. Acupuncture on the other hand, provided instantaneous and dramatic change for the better. If you are depressed and have tried everything else, I would recommend seeing John. I know that I will be back often to see him for treatment. read more

I sought out acupuncture as a way to help me manage nausea and fatigue related to a chronic illness. Dr. Shay took time to listen to what I was experiencing in my body, and made a plan for 4 initial weekly treatments to help me begin to restore and heal. I appreciate how he explained that acupuncture is not a quick fix, but it is an investment that helps the body reset and mend and build progress over time. After my first visit, I could tell a difference in my energy by how much I was able to accomplish at home. As with many chronic conditions, my energy tends to run extremely low, and I have to be very selective about what I spend it on. Although I was not bouncing off the walls at the end of the day, I noticed I was able to do what I needed to do, and even had more focus and drive to complete tasks that would normally deplete me (doing dishes, laundry, cooking dinner). After my fourth session I began waking up very hungry for breakfast. This was huge for me, my normal is constant nausea, which is usually worse in the morning. I had a 45 day streak of eating breakfast every single morning! Dr. Shay is very kind and shows great care for his patients. The office is clean and each treatment room is comfortable and relaxing. He disinfects each needle insertion location, and he uses a fresh unopened package of needles each time. The acupuncture itself is not at all painful, and if you experience any discomfort with one of the needles placed, he will quickly remove it and try a new placement. I believe this is a very worthwhile investment for anyone who is looking for a holistic way to compliment their current medical treatment and help with symptom management. read more

My first experience with Dr. Shay was wonderful. He listened and we talked about my general health for a good while before he began my treatment. I am currently pregnant and he was very cautious not to do anything that may disturb the fetus. I was SO relaxed during the acupuncture treatment, I really did not want it to end. Very friendly and professional. The offices and treatment rooms were also neat and clean. I had my 1st treatment for my fibromyalgia. I have had acupuncture many times over the years, for varies things, never for my fibro. I left with 50% less pain in several areas and went dropped to 100% less pain by the next day in my most painful areas. This did lead to some intensified pain in other areas, but I expected that and anybody that lives with fibro knows it's not all going to be perfect at the same time. Overall though my pain is soooo much better and I can't wait for my next visit. We're going to try weekly for a month and then evaluate from there. I'm feeling very optimistic! read more
