I've been experimenting with acupuncture and it's ability to relax, relieve stress, and help with sleep seeing that I'm in a new stressful job setting... When you walk in its noted as a "quiet space," that all phones should be off. Denise met me in the seating area, and brought me back to her consultation room. She had the calmest demeanor as I explained to her the symptoms that I had been feeling and the goals that I would like to achieve with acupuncture. She told me what I might expect, answered my questions, and was realistic which I loved. She took a basic set of vitals, looked at my tongue and told me I could sit anywhere. This is a community/communal acupuncture experience. Everyone was quiet, sleeping, and or meditating. The acupuncturist came over to me, and sterilized my sites. She then inserted the tiniest needles. I could not even feel them. (The needles came from a sterile package). I proceeded to meditate, and fall asleep. The atmosphere is sooo relaxing, it calms you instantly. I've always wondered about acupuncture and how it affects you, so granted I was a little nervous first off. Though I use Yelp consistently, this is my first review. I feel absolutely compelled to write a review of this service because of the amazing health benefits I have received in just a short span of treatment. If you suffer from any type of malady, whether you think it's significant or not, I can't think of a single reason not to try treatment from Denise. As other reviewers have mentioned, Denise is caring, thoughtful, and has a great sense of humor. She listens intently and it's very clear that the patient's well being is her number one priority. If you are at all apprehensive about acupuncture, Denise's practices should help immensely. Beyond the mere wonderful nature of Denise's care, the actual acupuncture itself has improved my sleep quality, energy level, and even though I didn't specifically ask for treatment for anxiety, as many people seeking acupuncture seem to, I feel at peace now in many situations that previously caused me stress. I have no other acupuncture experience to compare this to. I have only been twice. Do I feel qualified to write a review? Yes! I am a believer in People's Acupuncture Tx. I was having intense elbow pain. After a visit to an orthopedic and some x-rays, I was diagnosed with lateral epicodylitis (tennis elbow). The initial treatment was 2 weeks of prescription anti inflammatories, some stretches and exercises. By the end of 2 weeks, I was worse than before. So I started looking at the acupuncture option. I found the great reviews here on Yelp, and I got a rec from a neighbor. So I went to http://www.peoplesacupuncturetx.com/ and loved their website. It was extremely informative! Not to mention you can set your appointment online. And for first timers, you can download the paperwork, so you can fill everything out in advance. I was REALLY nervous the day of the appointment. I woke up from a dream of a rainbow colored alien carjacking me, taking me somewhere and running medical tests. The office is located in a strip center off Richmond. There is plenty of parking. When you walk in, there are signs for Quiet. Denise will come out, greet you and take you back to her office for a consult. As you walk back you'll see the acupuncture area which is open with about 8 chairs, There is light music playing creating a very relaxing atmosphere. Once you tell Denise what ails you, you go out to the open area and pick a chair. Denise will then start with the needles. I was so surprised - you barely feel anything! For the first visit, she recommends at least 45 minutes which goes by quickly. The next day, my elbow did not feel much better, and I was bummed. But over the course of 3 days, I was moving my arm in ways I had not been able to for weeks! I went back for a second treatment. Denise used a few more needles this time. I got so zoned, I had the needles in for almost and hour and a half! The effects are amazing. The other cool thing about this place is you decide what you can afford to pay. Denise gives you the range, and you let her know what you are comfortable with. Incredible. I started hunting for an acupuncturist a few weeks ago to help deal with the carpal pain I've had for a long time. I've always had issues with my right arm and stress levels have been at a high for a few months. I booked an appointment with Denise, based on reviews on this site, and am very thankful I have found her. She's incredibly informative and seems to love her job, offering advice on what I could do to feel better and is completely nonjudgmental. If I tell other people what I'm suffering through, it sounds like I'm kind of whining from all my issues. But all my health issues are real so it's nice to have someone take me seriously. The first time, I was a bit scared and did have a hard time relaxing. But the way she applies the needles is amazing. There is almost no pain and if there, it's a minor stinging that she can fix by moving the needle. I felt a warm sensation after she applied it on my right arm, the arm with the most pain, and after the session, felt better. As time progressed, my arm actually felt a lot better and I was thrilled at the results. She did recommend that you get acupuncture done for a month the first time you, mostly to keep relaxing your nerves or muscles and to help heal any injuries you might have. After that, maintenance is every two weeks or more if you don't feel any pain. I've just ended by second session with her and feel like a pro. I've also learned to relax and she did ask me if any new issues have arisen. Based on this, she applied more needles in different points than the firs time. I was so relaxed, I fell asleep! I'm definitely following up with her for my next two sessions. Only downfall is that her hours are only on certain days and she's only there til 3pm. Tried out People's Acupuncture because of the cost and good online reviews. WOW! I never would have imagined how well this works! Inexpensive, painless, and works fast! I ruptured my ACL about 2 years ago and experience daily pain despite physical therapy, icing, heating, special lotions, etc. Every morning I have to force my leg straight just to be able to walk. THE NEXT DAY AFTER MY FIRST SESSION I woke up and stretched, no pain. None! It automatically straightened out completely and I felt nothing. After the second session I was able to bend my knee completely (Something I've only been able to accomplish about 4 times before with intense and painful stretching). There was a miscommunication on their part with a gift certificate I purchased for my mom's first visit. When my mom went to pay no one communicated among their office that a gift certificate was on file for my mom. When my mom told them that I had paid for her visit, instead of looking to see if there was a gift certificate on file for her, they told her that "Your daughter had only held your appointment with her credit card--she hadn't actually paid for it." So my mom paid out of pocket. I contacted the office and the gift certificate I purchased was refunded that same night. They are a small business without a receptionist so it may be wise to double check to make sure your gift certificates are confirmed and visible to everyone before you send your family or friend to their service. I thought calling ahead and confirming my gift certificate was unnecessary seeing as how streamlined and easy their website is, but here I was wrong. I appreciate that the conflict was resolved quickly. I know this is a small business and they don't have a receptionist to keep the costs low--but all the more reason to be on your game. I gave this place a shot after reading reviews on yelp. I went in with severe pain (nerve overreaction from bulging disks in my neck) and started going every week. I noticed a significant decrease in my pain level immediately and the pain was nonexistent after 4 weeks. The treatment also relieved numbness in my index finger that was present for 6 months. I should note I have been in physical therapy and paid weekly visits to a chiropractor before. I don't want to downplay the importance of prior treatments: however, in the past one year, I have not felt better. I received treatments from Denise and Rachel stepped in for two sessions. I have been going in for a weekly session to improve stimulation for an upcoming IVF procedure in 6 weeks. I have been going for about 5 sessions now and noticed other improvements. My blood pressure has normalized, usually high. My heart rate which my doctor was concerned about has also gone down. According to my Fitbit my old resting heart rate was high 90s and now it has been in the low 80s. I haven't been doing anything different. Denise is great. She is calm and knowledgeable. I will keep coming as I am experiencing great benefits so far. The price is cheaper than most places. You do lack privacy since there is more than 1 patient at a time in a large room but I do not mind it at all since you stay fully dressed anyway. The chairs are comfortable. The music is relaxing. I was recently diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis and have been suffering for over a year trying to find the diagnosis. Once diagnosed, I wanted to opt out of steroids and pain pills and try to attack the actual issue naturally. Although AS is a progressive disease and there's no cure, I was hoping to at least get some sort of relief. Not only is Maria is super easy to talk to (bless her heart, she was basically a therapist my first visit), but she is gentle, sincere, and I can tell she really wants to help me feel better. I have dramatically reduced my Prednisone intake...going from 15-20mg every day to maybe 5-10mg once or twice a week. I haven't had much experience with acupuncture - aside from playing pincushion for a friend while she was studying and practicing - but I had always heard how effective it can be in treating a variey of ailments. I wanted to try it, but it was hard to find practitioners that I could afford. I am thankful that People's Acupuncture opened right when I really needed them. When my husband and I were having difficulty conceiving our second child, I was diagnosed with a high FSH level (most practitioners of Western medicine will write you off if you have a high FSH level). I had read quite a bit about acupuncture helping women with high FSH - in many cases lowering their levels and helping them to conceive. I wanted to try acupuncture first, to take a more holistic approach, before resorting to Western fertility treatments (potentially invasive, definitely expensive and not always effective). The morning after my first treatment, I couldn't believe how good I felt - more rested, calm, balanced than I ever remember feeling. I had a few more weekly treatments and was taking my recommended herbs until I found that I was pregnant! It turns out that we conceived our second child after the VERY FIRST treatment (and that same month, my FSH level was 13). I am now 23 weeks into a very healthy pregnancy.
