Next up was a chorizo and prawn app in a tomato sauce. For my main course I had the sea bass with fennel and spinach. This restaurant is huge. Much bigger than you would expect from the outside. Total seating is 100+. When you arrive you have to descend a flight of stairs. So, it's essentially underground. A bit cooler on a hot day like today. The inside has several arched columns with a stone/tile looking floor. The bar is a bit on the smallish side, seats maybe 5 people. Next time I'm in Rochdale, I'll be here for dinner!

I decided to have the venison but changed the wild berry and port sauce for the diane - the staff accepted this without a blink and both the meat and sauce were cooked to perfection and the plate was well and truly cleared! We also enjoyed some king prawns, garlic pizza bread (get the tomato it's scrumptious!), and the flat mushrooms with tomato and feta - NOM NOM NOM! A great night had as always - we'll be back!

They agreed but then only brought the adult's starters. The children then had to wait another 55 minutes for their food, by which time they were understandably close to tears. When the food eventually arrived it was very poor - we had asked if the pizzas that we all ordered could be 'well done' but when they were eventually brought out they were they most under-cooked, sloppy & soggy pizzas any of us had ever tasted. The pasta dishes were no better. The drinks were extremely over-priced as was the unacceptably substandard food & they ruined what should have been a special birthday meal & left 3 young children very upset. We will never visit La Capannina restaurant ever again & would definitely not recommend it to anybody. Terrible service, terrible food, terrible restaurant. Avoid at all costs!

My family have been coming to this restaurant since before I was born, my parents literally just followed the aroma of garlic during their first visit to Bury and ended up here (which probably explains why I'm such a garlic fiend!). The restaurant was much smaller back then but has expanded over the years without losing the welcoming family vibe, or the mesmerising array of empty wine bottles hanging from the ceiling. The food is always delicious and very reasonably priced - through the week they have special deals on e.g. 2 courses & a coffee for £12.95 which is excellent value. Or, the early bird special, any pizza, pasta or risotto for £6.90! Not only is the food great, but the welcoming atmosphere will keep you coming back for many a year to come.

Most of us went for either meatballs or marinated ribs for starters. The portions are generous so be mindful if you've already had the aforementioned garlic breads! For mains, pasta and pizza features strongly (as you'd expect), but there are quite a few alternatives such as steaks and fish dishes. My ravioli, when sprinkled with parmesan and black pepper, was hearty and delicious. For dessert I ordered what ended up being one of the largest servings of tiramisu I'd ever seen; though it was so light and creamy it wasn't difficult to polish off! Despite it being very busy the service was efficient and friendly - we were well taken care of. They're an old local favourite that I'd recommend to others.
