Summer is the best. My hair was a mess from someone else and Summer and I made a plan to fix this mess. It looks so much better.

I had my hair done last night by Ann. She is a lovely person. BUT... I'm just not happy. I have wavy/curly hair, with some very fine highlights that are about 8 months old. Other than the old, minimal highlights, my hair was in its natural state - light brown with some gray. HOWEVER, I have tons of experience having my hair colored professionally, with good results. I've done full foils, highlights and lowlights, double process platinum, balayage, had it colored dark brown, red... so I know what a stylist should be capable of with my hair. I asked Ann for face framing balayage type highlights, and showed her quite a few photos from Pinterest. I said I preferred a cooler tone. For my cut, I asked for a basic layered cut, "round layers, with the shortest hitting the top of my ear, some longer bangs and face framing." I said that I like the option to wear my hair both curly and blown out, but more often naturally curly (hence the layers). I asked for it to be cut down the center so that I could wear it that way and also flipped to either side, depending on my mood. After all of this, Ann initially suggested pulling my hair through a cap. What? No. I nipped that idea in the bud really quickly, saying I liked a natural, "not stripey" look. I said that I preferred foils. I emphasized again that I liked a natural look, not chunky. She seemed to understand what I was talking about, said the photos I showed her made it clear what I was looking for in terms of color, and we proceeded. She didn't seem very methodical in her foil placement when it came to blending. A few times she removed the foils in the front to dab more bleach in places, and then reapply the foils. Sigh. When she removed the foils at the bowl, the first thing she did was aggressively wash my hair with a purple shampoo, really concentrating with scrubbing at the front of my hairline, and that was when I realized I was potentially in trouble. Still, I didn't say anything, hoping she knew what she was doing. Then she toned, which is not something I'm unaccustomed to - but she mentioned having a hard time "matching the rest of my hair." When she sat me back at her station, I wasn't quite able to see the color up close. I thought maybe I needed some time to get used to it... but I didn't instantly love it. Self doubt and being raised as a polite Midwesterner stopped me from speaking up. I should have. I was pretty sure I had realistic expectations, I knew my color and texture were my own - that it wouldn't look exactly like the pictures but I expected it to be much, much closer. I felt like I needed to get home and get my hands in it, and to really see it up close, without her standing there watching me. You can see the photo example I provided (one of many), and then my results. I've got hot roots, some brass, some cool... the overall result is so uneven in places, and that color placement is just bad. In the photo I showed her, the face framing was soft and gradual. I have 2008 chunks. I literally hate it. I called the salon and asked to speak with the manager, to be told by the "front desk manager" (very nice girl) that it was a booth rental operation and that if I saw someone else to correct, I'd be charged again. She offered to speak with Ann, and while I appreciate that, but I'm not sure what the point is. I am not the type to complain... but this was not the experience I was hoping for and I am left really hating what I see in the mirror. ETA: Ann did call me personally, apologized profusely and offered to try to fix it. I genuinely appreciated that. HOWEVER, she also said "I should have tried to talk you out of that heavy bang." Umm, what? Obviously she wasn't listening to what I was saying, or understanding at all what I was looking for. A face framing highlight is not asking for only your bangs to be highlighted. I never ever said "please make only my bangs a combination of white and gold." I showed her several photos of gradual, soft highlights, and asked to softly blend them towards the back so that I didn't have blonde in the front and just brown in the back. She seemed clear, and said she understood perfectly what I meant. And, it's not just the fact that the highlights are much thicker than what I asked for, and not blended... they are uneven. I have hot roots, and uneven color. There is a portion of highlighting in my crown that wasn't there when i walked in. For her to attempt to put this on me like I didn't ask for the right service is unacceptable. At any rate, she did attempt to make the situation right by attempting to fix the color, and when I didn't agree to that she offered to refund my money. I appreciate that, and since I will now be spending at least another two hours in a salon and paying for another professional to fix this, I will take that refund. To be clear, this wasn't the experience I was hoping for when I walked in there last night, and calling to complain was not fun... but I deserved to like my results. read more

Although there have been several requests, the owner of this salon continues to operate without (a) asking patrons to wear a mask while in the salon and (b) without requiring stylists to mask properly. It is unclear why she chooses to offend those patrons who are willingly guarding the health of others by masking and instead defends patrons willing to risk the health of her stylist and other customers. I got my daughter a gift card to get her hair foil-highlighted, cut & styled. The receptionist said it would cost atleast $100, which I figured it might run around $120 so I got the card for $130 so she could use it for a tip too. Her appointment was at 5:pm with Courtney. She finally sent me a picture 3 hours later & it looked cute. The color was good. My only issue was that she charged her $150. My daughters hair is above her shoulders so that wouldn't be a reason to cost more. The actual total was $170! My hair goes to the middle of my back & my stylist charges $120 for a foil weave, cut & style & it takes no longer than 1 hour & 45 minutes- 2 hours max. Today my daughter didn't want to wear it down because she "doesn't like how it looks" so she's wearing it with the sides up. She doesn't want to go back & have the stylist re-do it the way she wants it because she's too embarrassed ... (teenager ) I'm giving the salon 3 stars because I think it looks cute, however, it didn't look $170 cute. Also the 3 hour chair time is a bit much. I'll be going with her for her next hair appointment but I highly doubt it will be with the same stylist. (My stylist is out of town, btw, is the reason we didn't go to her salon.) read more

This place is great! I mean, I get my hair done here every time, and they always do such a fabulous job! Bella Salon has great people, and they've just moved down to Chantilly Lane which is past Blount Memorial Hospital right near where the new Walgreen's is constructing. If you saw the new place, you would probably think it was a five-star restaurant or a ski resort since I hear a lot of people say that. The lobby looks amazing, and their receptionist is so nice and helpful when it comes to information, or wanting to know when your next appointment is. The ladies who do your hair make it worth every penny. They even have a lovely boutique that's inside the salon! They have Bare Minerals which is what their boss uses and many others do, too! A very beautiful environment to get your hair done in! read more

I had some difficulty booking an appointment as the receptionist wasn't available one day and came in late the next. On the two occasions I scheduled a hair cut the receptionist didn't communicate correctly with the stylist about the service I wanted. At the time of my first appointment the stylist was told I wanted color, not just the cut I had asked for. When I went in for the second appointment with the same stylist she was surprised I wanted to be shampooed and my hair blown dry following my cut and was irritable with me in the waiting room. The cut she did was average. I called and asked to speak with the owner but haven't heard anything back. I've never had such a poor experience in a salon. I won't return. read more

Courtney cut and color my hair last weekend. After trying to color my hair a color she wanted and it did not take. She not only blamed me for doing something I have not done in five years but made a scene about having to fix her mistake. She after trying to telling me that it is in the now to have my hair one color up to the roots another is in but then having told her that i like layers she did not give me any but barely even cut my hair at all. Then charged me full price. Happy I was able to show at least 10 people who also agree they will never use them before getting my hair done at a real place. Never use them they are a joke. I went in for just a trim and style. I wanted my hair styled because I was going for a fitting for my wedding dress. The person who cut my hair was named Amanda, and she seemed like she had just woken up and was pretty disinterested in being there. We tried to make small talk a few times, but it was really awkward. I figured it didn't matter as long as my hair looks good. She did a very good job trimming my hair. However, she asked if I wanted it to be straightened and I said yes. She didn't spend nearly as much time straightening it as other stylists have. I didn't get much of a glimpse before leaving the salon so I paid $40 and left a 20% tip making it a total of $48. Once I got to my car and looked in the mirror I realized the ends of my hair were barely straightened at all and it was super frizzy. I didn't feel like dealing with it since we already had 45 minutes of awkward small talk and silence. While the trim was done very well, I definitely did not get my money's worth with the styling part. I could have just paid for a cut and done my hair at home and it would have looked significantly better. I definitely won't be returning to the salon. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. read more

Was pretty unhappy with my hair cut. It felt rushed and my stylist said a few times how long her day was and how she just wanted to go home. I look young for my age so I felt she didn't care about my salon experience. I had to come back because she cut my hair unevenly and I felt as if they should have given my money back or a discount due to me having to come back but nothing of that nature was mentioned. All in all not a good experience and will not be coming back. read more

My stylist is Mandi and she is great. She works quickly, but the quality isn't sloppy. With a color and cut, I'm usually out in an hour and a half. Mandi has been doing my hair for a little while, and I have never been disappointed. I've also been getting my hair colored, and she does a great job. It's a natural look that gives a statement, and Mandi is great at creating that. Back in June, she dyed my hair purple and I loved it so much. She recently cut my bangs, and they look awesome. She tells me the products she's using and gives me recommendations on what I should do with my hair. I used a box color once that would not come out of my hair, but Mandi worked very hard to get my hair to look and feel better. After that, my hair did nothing but get better. Also, I've been to other salons whose prices are through the roof. Mandi charges a good amount for her work. I 100% recommend going to Mandi. read more
