A few months ago, however, I had to cancel an appointment because my toddler was sick. After that, something seemed to change. I can't say for certain why, but my experience was very different from that point forward. My coworkers were kind enough to purchase a gift certificate for me to see Kim, and they even included a generous tip. When I reached out to schedule my appointment, communication became frustrating. After several attempts, I was only offered two appointment times--one approximately a month away and the other about two months away. Both were during hours that I had already explained I could not make because of my work schedule. What made the experience even more disappointing was learning that after I was told those were the available times, a coworker was offered several much sooner and more convenient appointment options. That left me feeling as though I was not being given the same scheduling opportunities, despite trying to be flexible and clearly communicating my availability. I can't say for certain why my experience was different, but the timing made me wonder if my previous cancellation due to my sick toddler played a role. Whether it did or not, that is how the experience felt from my perspective. Kim did offer to let someone else use my gift certificate, but the gift certificate had been thoughtfully purchased specifically for me by my coworkers, and I simply wanted the opportunity to use it myself within a reasonable timeframe. It's unfortunate because Kim truly does great massage work. Unfortunately, I was never able to redeem the gift certificate my coworkers so thoughtfully purchased for me. While I have no complaints about the quality of her massages, the communication and scheduling experience left me feeling unwelcome and undervalued as a customer.
