JoEllen H. Butlerr - Waiting area

This review is way overdue for me to write. Almost two years ago I was summarily dismissed from my…read moreprior provider of over 10 years when my Cobra insurance ran out and I needed to self-pay for services that, by the sheer nature of needing to see a neurology specialist for them, were formidable enough that this event caused me unnecessary anxiety bordering on panic. Taking my health into my own hands, I began a search for providers that would accept self-pay while using all the resources available on the internet to find reviews, publicly-available professional histories and my gut feeling. JoEllen Butler's practice astonishingly quieted all of those extra doubts and anxieties surrounding being completely blocked from access to treatments that I had been tested for and had medicines prescribed to treat for over a decade. She knew all too well that larger practices often will deny a self-pay option. Unfortunately for me, my doctors at the other practice never mentioned it. Ms. Butler is a gentile, exuberant and extremely knowledgeable professional. The office is lovely with large high-ceilinged offices and a calming waiting room. I tend to get more anxious in small cluttered offices because of a mild-ish case of claustrophobia. She and her office manager-extraordinaire Lisa are so genuine and kind. Lisa never rushes through the intake portion of every appointment and she is always on-point when it comes to submitting refills, returning calls or texts for appointments as well as reminder calls for appointments. I never have to worry that any request I have will slip through the cracks. I can't say enough about Ms. Butler. On my first visit, she thoroughly reviewed the records I brought her from my prior practice and made two small changes to my treatment that improved my quality of life almost immediately. My regimen had not been changed in six years at my prior practice. I can say at this time that I am GLAD they refused to treat me on self-pay. If not for that, I would never have moved on. The day JoEllen Butler's practice either relocates or closes down for her retirement, THAT will be a different story.

TL;DR I went out of my way to find a Black woman healthcare provider so that I would be truly heard…read moreand ended up getting yelled at and gaslit by someone who misrepresents their credentials. While getting an actual appointment was a nightmare, I initially really liked Dr Jennifer Muhammad upon meeting her. During her introduction, she told me that even though she has 700 patients she gives each of them time and care and listens to them. While that is a lot of people she reassured me that most of them she only sees once a year. Odd flex, but whatever. Near the end of my appointment she told me that she would have to try and see if she could get the pharmacy that I use that has saved me hundreds of dollars to work with her system even though the one I use is "mail order' (yes read that with extreme derision). She seemed annoyed when I told her that WalMart's pharmacy isn't an option for me out of principle, I don't like how they treat their employee. As we left things, she would get the form from me, which I sent over, check out Cost Plus, my magical cheap pharmacy, and I had a follow up appointment in 2 weeks. Imagine my surprise when I then got multiple texts the next day about my doctor sending me coupons for prescriptions through GoodRX. This included a prescription for a pain medication that not only did I not need, but I had a bad reaction to in the past. If she had taken time to talk to me about that rather than judging what I am currently using for pain management (LDN, not an opioid) she would have known that I don't tolerate medication well and got very sick trying it years ago. When I called to find out why she did this, she had the nerve, gall, and audacity to tell me that I heard what I wanted to hear and she never said she would try to use my preferred pharmacy. She went on to say that she prescribed me pain medication basically because she didn't like what I was using, even though I told her I felt better than I've felt in years. She then, with all of the professionalism of a Real Housewife of pick your city, told me that she did that because she is a real doctor, not some online doctor like I'm used to. Wait... What? Well let's roll back the tape because I recorded the whole appointment on my phone. But she didn't know that. So of course when I go back and listen to the visit, yeah, just like I thought, she said she would try to see if she could get it to work. And because she couldn't fire up enough brain activity to make her system work, all of my previous health care providers are somehow shady or less quailed than her? It was like she couldn't fathom that the problem was with her and her system. But she's the real doctor... With all due respect to her doctoral program, because I sure haven't completed one, no, my dear, as you sit there in a medical office with a white coat on, you are not a medical doctor. Online or otherwise, and it is disingenuous, and in some states fraudulent, to insinuate that you are a medical doctor. I have seen several real, in person, true medial doctors, along with doctorate level nurse practitioners over the years. Which is why I feel very comfortable saying if you want a nurse with a doctorate that will look down her nose at you, flat out lie, and give you meds that will make you sick, Jennifer is your gal! If you want someone to actually listen to your healthcare needs run quickly in the other direction.

I can't say that I have had very many testimonials when it comes to doctors. In all actuality I was…read morenot a fan of doctors. They have not had a good report with me in my lifetime. I've been told things that were untrue and just lead astray . By non-caring Doctors that were Processing people like numbers as though they weren't human beings. No time to explain no time to help you understand what's going on. Most of the times I left these other doctors scratching my head by the time I got home I didn't even know what I went to the doctor for because none of me issues would ever be addressed correctly. BUT NOW THAT I FOUND Dr. Jennifer Muhammad, she's a dual certified psychiatric and family nurse practitioner who offers evaluations, lab testing, medications, and psychotherapy for ages 10 and older. She Was referred to me by very good family members and friends who knew I needed a special type of doctor to deal with my issues. So even feeling the way that I felt about doctors in the past not being helpful or caring. I took a chance with Dr. Jennifer Muhammad, and it was and is the best move I made for myself ever. With an in-depth knowledge of two specialties, she uses a warm, holistic approach that aims to help you overcome life's mental and emotional stressors. She the first Doctor that I feel has ever Diagnosed me correctly and has placed me on a plan Bringing my health back in Check! I have seen and been through situations whereas being under this Doctors Care has Saved my life. I'm healthier today than I've been in 15 years! I'm lighter, I feel better every day, and my blood pressure is now normal. If your one of those guys who thinks he can't talk to doctors or open his feelings to anyone or like I did and just won't trust anyone. You would be wrong, and I must tell you to give Dr. Muhammad a try! I would not steer you wrong! Dr. Muhammad wants to partner with you on your quest for quest for mental health and well-being.
