Gorgeous was the creamy carbonara with Parmagiano and Amatriciana, which were wallops of a finish to the nights eats. The staff were lovely, the male wait person in particular was very accommodating and his sincerity was felt. We really wanted to do dessert..but alas again too full! The world is a cruel and wicked place, but I have to let bygones be bygones and accepted that I am, indeed, a douche for not finding this place sooner. Nestled in Mount Florida near Hampden Park, you wouldn't necessarily find this little place. From the outside it looks nothing more that your typical Italian joint. Almost neglected you may say. There's nothing particularly appealing about the shop front. Furthermore as they have no website I had no real idea what to expect food wise. So, I went in completely blind, not knowing anything. First impressions were excellent, very cosy, only 8 or 9 tables, nice Italian music in the background, the chatter of Italian in the kitchen and amongst the waiters. It all boded very well. We ordered some drinks and after a quick rummage through the menu (which all looked great, and very well priced) we were recited the specials of the day. In true Italian style we took the plunge and went for a mega feast of four courses. Nothing particularly challenging for a Wednesday night I must say. To begin, we had a duo of bruschettas - one, a classic tomato and the other with friarielli (or Italian wild broccoli). Afterwords we had a wonderful seafood caserecce pasta dish (primo) with fresh clams and squid. It tasted just like the real stuff I would get in Italy. After, yes there was more (or a secondo), a huge fitto misto (which we shared) which is basically battered and fried seafood. The batter was so light and crisp, and served with lemon its a simple and easy dish that is difficult to top. Finally for desert was a home-made amarena cherry and amaretto cheesecake. It was oh so rich and creamy. Exquisite!!! All this was washed down with some rather darn fine Soave white wine, and the best part was the final bill, incredibly good value for money considering the quantity and the amazing quality of the food we had. I could not recommend this place enough. A real proper Italian restaurant, which is going straight into my top Italian eateries list. I simply cannot wait to go back.

Personally, I've always been a Zizzi's fan. Sure, they're a chain but I've had a few good meals at the Cresswell Lane one (and I love that they had Glasgow School of Art students decorate it) so chose here for an early dinner on a Friday night over the other Italian options. The restaurants in this section of Silverburn have an "al fresco" area as well as seating inside the restaurant. I say al fresco but of course you're still inside the shopping centre out of the rain which is always a good thing. We sat in a booth which was mostly quite good although you are pretty close to people walking to/from the bus stop which means it's not the most intimate of dinners. Zizzi offers pretty standard Italian options but maybe a little more modern than other places and I like that the daily specials are stuck to the menu with a post-it note (stationery geek). We ordered the arancini starter to share, and I got the wild boar ragu pappardelle for main. The arancini arrived quickly and it was a good sized portion of three balls and dip. The menu doesn't say so I'm not sure if it was right or not, but the balls were lukewarm and the sauce was cold which was a weird combination. I'd say this was a pretty disappointing starter and I'd rate it as one of the worst things I can remember having at Zizzi's so I wouldn't recommend this at all. By this stage I was wondering whether we'd made the right choice eating here but thankfully my main improved things. The pasta was delicious, soft and delicate and the perfect amount of bite and the sauce was lovely and rich. A good sized portion and really tasty, I'd definitely get this again if I went back to eat. We skipped dessert and grabbed the bill which was a hefty £35 for a late lunch/early dinner for two with a couple of soft drinks. Pretty pricey when you compare it to city centre dining at a nice independent restaurant. Service was fine - nothing to complain about but nothing to rave about either. Personally I wish there was a bit more variety at Silverburn in the dining options - 4 Italians and 4 burger places don't really get me all that excited - all ready for Cineworld opening in the coming months. I think I'd still probably pick Zizzi's over the other options though.

We've been several times and the service has always been fantastic. On one occasion, my little fusspot had chosen cheesy pasta from the Kids menu. After one bite he decided he didn't like it. The waitress noticed he wasn't eating, and I explained it had nothing to do with the food and that he was a fussy eater. Within minutes the plate of pasta had been replaced with a cheesy pizza, free of charge! How's that for service! We often make use of our Taste card in Zizzi meaning that we get 2 for 1 on mains. We've sampled the pastas and risotto but my absolute favourite is the Rustica pizzas. They have such a varied selection of toppings and the crust is to die for, dipped in some of the chilli oil served on the table. Another favourite of ours is the Chicken and Proscuitto salad. This is a total meal in itself with a gorgeous dressing. The ice cream they serve is so so creamy and delicious; and I'm not a huge ice cream fan. The decor could definitely do with updating as it is very casual. I looked at the menu and decided to have the pre-theatre (available all night on a Thursday) which is £13.95 for 2 course. There is a good choice of dishes (about 5 options of mains and starters). I opted for chicken liver pâté followed by mushroom and asparagus risotto. Graeme had a pizza, so we decided to get a cheesy garlic bread to share with our starters so he didn't steal all my pâté. The a la carte menu has pasta, pizza as well as meat and fish dishes. In all honesty I would have preferred one of the meat/fish mains but the prices were just too expensive for me, most coming in at over £15 for a main. Comparing these prices with decent city centre restaurants, I wouldn't expect to pay more on the south side and that's why this place loses a star. The pâté was a good dollop, served with crackers and bread as well as some salad and red onion chutney. Delicious, and a great size for a starter. The garlic bread was heavenly and had a huge amount of cheese on it which was just perfect. I really enjoyed the risotto as well - I've had a lot of bad risottos while dining out, and this wasn't one of them. Perfectly cooked, generously topped with Parmesan and lots of tasty mushrooms. I would have liked more asparagus but the pieces I did get were delicious and it was perfectly cooked, with the right amount of bite. We didn't have dessert and decided to walk home. The bill came in close to £50 due to the expensive drinks, which was a little disappointing. A small glass of rose was £4.95 and Graeme had a beer, so that pushed things up a little. I'm glad to say that we'd definitely go back and recommend it - the pre-theatre is a very good deal and I was really impressed by the cooking. It's great to find a great little restaurant right on your doorstep ... even if it's been there all along! (Added note, there's carparking behind the row of shops if you're driving, it can often be hard to get a spot on Ayr Road in the evening).

Located just off the Finnieston strip next to Ox & Finch, we actually tried going here last year but for some reason they were closed on a Saturday night so we went to Mother India instead. A group of 5 of us visited for dinner last night. The restaurant is pretty small actually but not pokey - no one was seated right beside us and the music gives it a good atmosphere so you don't feel like people are listening to your conversation. The menu is really impressive - I pretty much wanted to eat every single dish. As Rocco G says, it's not your usual Italian dishes on the menu and you can be a little more adventurous here (although there is a section of traditional Italian dishes which are more common in the UK like bolognese, carbonara, lasagne). There's lots of eggplant/aubergine (drool) and loads of delicious-sounding seafood, as well as nod to Scottish folk with a chicken breast stuffed with haggis. There's even a good range of vegetarian dishes. I went for the scallops to start (£9.95) which were beautifully plump (is there any other way to describe a good scallop), served in a lovely tangy Aurum liqueur sauce. For the price I thought 3 scallops was very reasonable, and really enjoyed how perfectly they were cooked. For main I couldn't go past the gnocchi with king prawns in a white wine sauce (£11.95). It was a huge portion (too large, if I'm honest) but overall a really wonderful dish packed with flavour but not smothered in sauce, and really letting the puffs of gnocchi shine. There was one main large prawn (in the shell) and then smaller prawns scattered around the dish - again, for the price I thought this was really good value. I even went for dessert (something I rarely do) as I quite fancied the tiramisu (I think around £5). Again, great sized portion, lovely presentation and had a nice boozy/coffee kick to it. I couldn't eat it all so they happily popped it in a container for me to take home (guess what I'm having for lunch today?!). Service was great - we were looked after by two staff members who were both friendly and helpful. There was a mix up with the mains as one of our party didn't receive his, and they only realised as they were bringing out our dishes. I thought the way it was handled was really nice - they offered him some bread while he waited, and then took his dessert off the bill to say sorry. Life lesson: If Rocco G says it's good, it's going to be good.

It is our local Italian restaurant and I recommend it if you are in the Newton Mearns area. It is worth noting that the parking is round the back (shared with the other shops and it can be tight for a larger vehicle, such as a Panamera or XJ).

The food arrived within 20 minutes - impressive seeing as it's a 5 minute drive from our house and they'd told us 30 minutes at least. The food was piping hot and delicious. My pasta came with rocket which tasted awful, you know how sometimes it is really bitter? It was really easy to pick off though so no harm done. The sauce and ravioli were delicious, creamy and a really generous serve so I was able to save the leftovers for lunch the next day. I think the last time we ordered takeaway for delivery was some time in 2011, so we're not pros at this kind of thing. I'd rather go our for a meal. But this place had a great take away service so I suspect we'll be using them again in the future.
