I can't say enough good things about Belcore! Indeed, during my long vacation in Italy we stopped by here three times to dine! Why? Good food, good seating, grand hospitality that comes together as an alluring reasons to keep coming back. I'll explain. First, the proprietor is just down-right friendly. Everyone he meets he welcomes as friend. But it goes beyond that, he is generous with a pour, encourages adventure ("Try something out of your comfort zone he says), and mindful of his guests when transitions need to take place. Second, the food is delightful. My sin is that I overate here, being drawn in by the Prosecco given after one sits down, or the flavorful portions of each dish and dare I forget, the outstanding deserts, I had it all: Pasta, steak, fish, all of it was good! We must have spent at least two hours each setting (I had a party of three) and while there are many good places to eat in Florence, this one commands attention. Most of the time, Belcore was quiet...a little too quiet for such an outstanding restaurant. I know this: I will return not just to Italy but to this establishment. The ink risotto is perfectly cooked with balanced seafood flavor and is also perfectly salted. I think this was some of the most accommodating staff here! They were incredibly sweet and very helpful towards our selection. While on the fancier side, they did not turn their noses up to our group even though we had just traveled via train and we're not in the best shape visually :) the food was amazing you cannot go wrong here and the ambiance was delightful! As I frequently write, every restaurant experience is personal. I know there are many fans of this restaurant, but it just wasn't as memorable for us. For the good, service is very friendly, engaging and hospitable. I found everyone charming. The food just did not excite me. I believe everything was adequately prepared and the portions were fine. I did find my fish to be a little on the greasy side though. Also, I only had gelato for dessert, but something seemed just a little off about it. It just didn't taste as fresh and rich as the gelato I had bought randomly on the street. Finally, once again, not a major criticism, but the wine list was limited (at least for us), but on balance there were many inexpensive choices. The dining room and restrooms were certainly clean, but the interior was definitely a little stale and had some odd things pushed off to the side such as a hookah. All of these things may sound petty, but I suppose in comparison to all of the other great meals we had at a similar price point, the meal just felt short. Nothing horrible, but nothing that would make me want to recommend to others. Once again, I suggest you consider all of the other reviews though, maybe the restaurant or me, or both were having an off night. read more

Wow! We spent three weeks in Florence, and Belcore became our favorite place to eat. First when we arrived, we were greeted with Prosecco. The staff was very welcoming. The food was excellent. In three meals, we tried most of the food items. The green lasagna and cod dish were some of my favorites. It is a great place located on a quiet street a little out of the main hustle of the city. I was a little put off by the fact that the place was empty but it soon filled up with a few parties for dinner. I ordered the chef's menu of the day and was more than satisfied with the pasta and meat. I was given an appetizer on the house and had a digestif included with my meal. It came after the main course. I liked my meal so much I came back with my dad. We had a good meal the next time too. I ordered the risotto and it was very tasty. Similar to Tia R., I too had a lovely dinner experience in this restaurant. The service here is friendly and personal and the food, delicious. I ordered the Florentine Steak, prepared rare as per recommended by the amiable waitress, and found it to be juicy, tender and succulent. Along with the steak, I ordered a plate of asparagus that were nearly presented and cooked nicely. For dessert, I ordered the parfait which was delicious as well. I was pleasantly surprised when I was offered not just the welcome drink (which was a cup of sparkling wine), but also a bowl of carrot soup before my meal and a plate of assorted biscuits and dessert wine along with my parfait! Overall, whilst this place may be a little pricey compared to the other eateries around the area, I highly recommend it as I found it to be a very satisfying dining experience - one of very good value. read more

I found this by chance, and hit a home run! The menu looked a little different, so I took a chance. Wow, so good! I started with the foie gras, and it melted in my mouth, with a grin of happiness on my face. For the first dish, I tried the pasta that was made fresh. Not every place does that, even in Italy. Such a difference! The tomato and garlic sauce had just the right amount of garlic. For the meat dish, I had the Florentine steak, mostly because I heard It was a specialty of the area. Wow. What a surprise. We stumbled upon this little hole in the wall place and the food was absolutely amazing. I had the Pici or fresh pasta with the beef ragu sauce and it was some of the best pasta I have ever eaten in my life. The pasta was cooked to perfection, al dente just the way I like it. My wife had the rabbit ragu with the papardelle noodles l. She loved it. What a great find. Now let's talk about the wait staff. Another major wow. Prompt and responsive is an understatement. We found this place one evening around the corner from the train station. The menu looked different from all the other restaurants we've tried so far and we were famished. They asked us if we had a reservation when we walked in, even though the place was practically empty. They sat us in another room, which later became evident to us was the tourist area (they later sat a French couple and a group of Americans nearby). Nevertheless, we receive excellent service. We were given complimentary sparkling wine upon sitting down. We ordered our very first Florentine steak. I warned my husband that they typically prepare it rare, which he does not like. We were given a complimentary broth which was a nice touch. We also ordered greek salad which came with bread. We had for our first course, grouper ravioli. I didn't know what to expect, but it was both delicious and savory at the same time. The steak came out--it was rare--chopped into large pieces. Even for two people sharing, it was still a lot. We devoured as much as we could. It was delicious and we were trying to eat as much of it as we could. I had some sort of red wine with my dinner. I was hoping to try dessert, but I couldn't fit anymore in. They still gave us complimentary dessert wine. Very good food, exceptional service. They're on Michelin's radar, so I'm going to hold them to a slightly higher standard. I think the crispy foie gras was a little too oily, the steak was over-peppered, and the peach dessert had two large strips of zest in it instead of grated zest. Yes, I'm nitpicking, but those are the details that lose a star, lol. The service, however, was stellar. They start you off with a glass of prosecco, they give you biscotti and moscato towards the end, and a glass of limoncello to finish. The waitstaff is attentive but not overbearing, and they'll help you pick a wine to go with your food, and they were absolutely right in my case. If they'd tweak a few small things on the food, they'd be a shoo-in for 5 stars. read more
