    Caviar fries
    Deforio B.

Had a taste for some fancy French fries, so I hit up Bel-Fries. It's an open store front with outdoor seating. The weather was nice out, so I opted to sit and eat my fries. The fries were made to order, so they were nice and hot. The Caviar Fries had a nice crunch and good seasoning. The caviar was not too salty or fishy. I could have done without the sour cream, but it gave it a more polished look. $10 is a good price. 4/5 Til we eat again ...

Got the pop chicken and fires which was super fresh! The chicken was also really tender and crispy. Will deff be back to try other fry sauces.

A nice hole In the wall spot for some quick grab and go fries. I came to try out their caviar fries promotion and it was an interesting combination, but worked out. Besides the caviar, their fries are one of the best I've had, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Will definitely swing by to to out more of their combinations. Ordering is simple and the food comes out in a timely manner. One downside is not much seating though there a couple set up tables/chairs outside.

Medium pommes frites with frites sauce, curry mango, and smokey chipotle sauce

Came here Sunday evening when no one was here, and I must say I was already turned off by the service when first getting there. The staff working seemed to be bothered as he was on his phone before AND while I was ordering, barely acknowledging and providing any sort of service. I got the medium pommes frites with frites sauce, curry mango and smokey chipotle sauce. The fries came out pipping hot, with a delicious crunchy outside and soft inside. The sauce portions are really generous, but none of them really stood out to me. The curry mango was the best of the three. If I was having a craving for fries, I'd definitely go to Pommes Frites over in Greenwich Village over this.

Came here for a late night snack and enjoyed it! I love fries so I was super excited to try this place out. Service was good, nothing too memorable. Food came out at a decent pace. The poutine fries were great. Super flavorful albeit slightly salty. I'd come here again and would try something else.

These fries are amazing! Crispy, airy, well seasoned. A great selection of sauces. I chose the black truffle mayo and it was light. Would like to try their other sauces. There aren't any seating inside so it's more of a grab and go kind of place.

Great spot to stop at for a quick bite. They have a lot of fries variations... we ended up getting pumpkin spice which was surprisingly good. Not much space to eat - its a small stop but great!

Definitely one of the moderately high price fries/chicken places but sooo yummy. Perfectly crispy and flavored. The dipping sauce of truffle was star of the show.

Yummy! Fun! And clean. Poutine fries also. Love the lower east side. So much uniqueness and new stuff.

absolute banger of a spot for fries! They're freshly made once ordered & the fries are thick & crispy. I got the black truffle mayo sauce which is one of their more popular sauces but they do have a good variety of dipping sauces to choose from ($1-$2 each) it's a small location so there isn't really any seating but still a GREAT spot for a quick snack/bite

Great snack for a freezing day. My boo and I ordered two of their paper cones: one filled with Bel-Fries and the other filled with popcorn chicken. The popcorn chicken had fresh white meat and was larger in size than most popcorn chicken I've tried. I would moreso call it chicken nuggets. The breading was a bit on the thick side and not so flavorful. They did offer sauces, one star removed for that. It was a $2.50 upcharge per sauce and they don't give enough for one to fully enjoy their eats with. The fries were tasty and imo balanced out the plain tasting chicken nuggets, but they did add too much salt because all of the fries at the bottom were blech with the salt that shifted downward. I think their bottom fries would be tastier and less likely to accumulate excess salt if they added seasoning when frying instead of afterwards. The service was fast and friendly. They explained things we weren't sure about. Happy eats!

Stopped by here while checking out food in the area and seeing there was a fry spot which I love. I got the Cajun fries which came with two sauces one I believe with their truffle sauce and the other was like a barbecue sauce. I was not a fan of the barbecue sauce, but the truffle sauce was good. My sister also got mozzarella sticks and fries and loved it. The menu has a lot of different fry options which is really cool that range from I believe $12-$15. Service was OK nothing to brag over. He took our orders, made it, and gave it to us. The Cajun fries had a good flavor, and the poutine fries were even better though very decadent. There are also some carbonated drinks you can buy. There is small patio seating right outside the restaurant that you can sit at.

    Classic in small

My husband and I love fries so we had to sample this place. Thankfully we already had many great food throughout the day so we didn't need much late in the day. We just got the classic in small - we didn't want to pay for dipping sauce so we just went with the default ketchup. The fries were well seasoned and were crispy on the outside but soft on the inside - the way fries should be. Prices were alright for NYC. As for the service...not sure but the cashier seems to be a bit shady. The couple ahead of us left the screen on the tip page so we had to wait until the screen was ready for our transaction, but the cashier seems to have filled out the tip field himself. I think people need to be more conscious about this if they don't want any troubles. There were some seats outside which had an awning so that was nice.

This place is unfortunately a bit small but there are tables to sit down in front plus a touch screen menu to order if you don't feel like interacting with the staff. The Menu is vast with getting Frites starting from Regular to Double if you really want to share fries with. There's also the option to get sauces which is a must if you crave something to mix those fries in. I think I waited about 10 or so minutes after placing my order and my Belgium Frites were ready. I ordered the Truffle Frites. They are drizzled with Truffle Oil and garnished with freshly grated Italian Parmesan Cheese & Savory Herbs. I also got The Roasted Garlic Aioli which consisted of crispy roasted garlic, simmering onion & spices with a touch of anchovy. A very dangerous combo but I promise you; it's delicious. My first reaction was seeing that the person who put my fries in a paper cone. He filled the entire cone and then filled partly a second paper cone and layered it on top so it did not spill. Amazing! I was in shock of how much fries you get for just the regular size. The Truffle Frites were pretty much what you'd expect. Hot to the touch and the bite, it's crispy on the exterior a slight soft chew when you take a bite. It's really hard to complain when you get fries made to order and it's exactly how you want it to be. Did I even mention that they are also open till late too? This might be a fever dream if this was near me. Unfortunately, I'm a bit too far from NYC to visit this place often. But when I'm in the area; this is a must visit for sure!

The fries were great but some crusty French bread would have been a good addition, to help soak up the flavorful broth. The Merguez sandwich was a miss. Despite the menu stating that it was served on a baguette (and picture on Yelp of other diners receiving the sandwich on a baguette), ours was served on ciabatta. Really, not the same thing. We did not say anything at the time but we would not have ordered it had we known. Total disappointment. Also, the person on our party that ordered this sandwich found the fries way too salty. Luckily, the attentive staff kept the water refills flowing. I doubt we would return to this restaurant in the future the next time we're in the area, despite the friendly and attentive service.

Wow, how have I not reviewed one of my favorite go-to spots in NYC yet!!??…read more I have been going to BXL Cafe since the mid-2000's and make a point of hitting it every single visit to the city. The first time, we stumbled into it during a snowstorm, seeking shelter after visiting Time Square with a group of friends, one of whom was in the city with us for his very last trip on this earth. He was very sadly dying of cancer and dreamed of being able to go to NYC one last time. May he be resting in peace. On my last night in the city, I suggested to clients of mine that we hit BXL Cafe and they were all willing and ready. Like every other visit, the service, drinks and food were all fantastic so I'm surprised by some of the 3-star reviews because this place is fantastic. This was a Thursday night and the place was absolutely mobbed. It was a bit of a squeeze getting to the table I reserved in the back where I joined my clients/friends of many years. Our server was awesome, very attentive, friendly, and put up with us trying to hook up our one single buddy at the table that night. She suggested we start with the croquettes and even though I had been raving about the mussels, some in our party ordered other things. No clue why! The mussels are always amazing. My clients/friends did enjoy what they ordered. The croquettes were very tasty; I believe my favorite was the ham croquettes. I didn't quite care for the shrimp croquettes, I mean, if I had to pick in the future. My go-to has always been the Thailandaise Mussels with coconut milk, lemon grass and curry. This has always been so awesome, I never stray from it. Sooooo good and a massive portion in a big 'ol black pot served with crusty bread and a big portion of fries. I guess my only complaint would be that while the fries are good and crispy, they aren't the traditional double fried in duck fat fries of true Belgian Moules Frites eateries. My favorite in this true Belgian way is the fries served at Wurstkuche in L.A. (of all places). These fries are absolutely heavenly and I'd suggest BXL (and The Back Abbey in Claremont, CA) set up a conference call with Wurstkuche so they can perfect theirs. Still, BXL Cafe is an absolutely wonderful stop and well, the beer on tap and by the bottle is always fantastic and fresh. Long live BXL Cafe! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

The dish came with frites too which I was excited to try. They were crispy yet soft on the inside. I like my fries a little more skinny and crispy but these went well with the beef gravy on the side. There are 2 other Buvettes in Asia and one coming soon in London. Buvette does not do reservations. Buvette is a charming but tiny/cramped space, made more tiny within the last year by NYC's removal of pandemic-era street patios which greatly helped dining capacity. Buvette may sometimes have a few front sidewalk tables, and there's a tiny outdoor patio in the back. The tables and dishware are also tiny. There's a kitchen in the back, but some food is also prepared below the bar in front, where there seem to be some ovens. The food seems reliably consistent here. The menu is short but there are daily specials. I ordered a non-alcoholic ginger soda, crab tartine (a special), lobster a l'Americaine (lobster pot pie) and frites. The soda is always on the menu and is refreshing, with a nice snap of ginger. The crab tartine was fab, a fresh crab salad with avocado atop toast. The lobster pot pie was made in the under-bar oven, a small serving of lobster and veggies with a golden puff pastry topper. Delish. The frites were nicely crisp, served with an aioli. Service was okay, but my hot food took about 45 minutes to come out, apparently because my ticket was lost. Overall a pleasant meal, my first during this visit.
