MOVERS BEWARE! If you're doing a day move, their team is great. But if you need to put your belongings in storage for any period of time, DON'T DO IT! EVERY piece of furniture was damaged or ruined. 21. yes 21 Boxes in their secure facility storage for 6 months were "missing". They couldn't care less! Take the max in insurance. Your will need it. Take photos and inventory of EVERYTHING. Especially what is in the boxes. Number them. When you have to do your claim, and you will, you will be ready. Also on your insurance claim, include all their fee's for reimbursement, assuming they do as much damage to you as they did to us. I was insured for 25K. Settled on 16K which was fair being I could not prove what was in the 21 missing boxes. Then sued for their fees. "Double dipping" as the lawyer said., being that we already settled with Vanliner, the insurance company. Bekins is horrible! They moved our things into storage for 6 months until our house was ready. When they moved our things into our home, it was a disaster. Furniture was damaged, almost every box was damaged. I think they played soccer with our boxes. We had things wrapped in bubble wrap in boxes marked: FRAGILE, GLASS ! and they were still broken. We had many things missing, or stolen I think. We were stupid not taking out extra insurance. They pay for damage @ 60 cents per pound, so for our claim for over$5000, we received $267. Another 1-star review for this incompetent mess of a company. They deserve negative stars for all the damage, heartache, and stress they caused for our move from PA to Colorado...while showing ZERO concern and being completely indifferent. 1. We booked with them and signed the contract 5-6 weeks in advance of our move date. Then at 6:30 pmthe NIGHT BEFORE our move, they called and said "oops, we forgot to enter your move into our system - we can't move you for another 3-4 week, MAYBE, IF we can find a driver. WTF??? We were leaving in the morning for a cross-country move with a dog and two cats. All of this was despite my multiple emails & voicemails in the intervening weeks asking to confirm the move date. 2. Their "solution" was to send a local crew with a local box truck to pick up all our stuff, and then store it in their warehouse for 3-4 weeks until a cross-country truck could be scheduled. So, we arrived in Denver with only our clothes and some camping chairs & tables to live with for a month in our new house. Their crew were like guys they'd picked up that morning off the street - zero knowledge of how to move big items, zero care for our things (bumping & banging them). The driver/boss man didn't even know their names - I heard him ask them more than once what their names were. 3. When our things arrived, multiple pieces of vintage wooden furniture and multiple boxes of expensive clothes were ruined and mildewed by extensive water damage. The cross-country driver (who worked for corporate Bekins) admitted to us he saw them offloading our stuff out of that local box truck when he showed up. Our stuff had been stored in a non-climate controlled box truck in July/August in SE PA for 18 DAYS! He said their box truck was leaky and there were puddles of water inside of it. We had to file an insurance claim for Bekins to repair and refinish ALL of our wood furniture, a bill of over $20K! Thank god we had gotten the insurance or we would've been screwed. 4. They destroyed over $8000 of vintage clothes, which Bekins corporate refused to reimburse. Instead they said they'd pay the tariff rate of $0.60/pound, or about $800, or 1/10th of the value. I had to Google research to get the email of a Bekins VP, send him an email out of the blue, and escalate before they'd agree to pay half, or $4000. That process took about 6 months! A total waste of time and a ripoff. TL;DR Bekins Transfer & Storage is a HORRIBLE company. They bungled our move in every conceivable way (and some inconceivable ways!). Don't use this company!! If I could rate this company a complete ZERO I would as they are horrible!!! No communication whatsoever and are very rude to talk to. Our move with them did not go smoothly at all throughout the any part of process. We had an out of state move scheduled to go from PA to SC and set the date on the pickup. They changed the date without telling us, and then argued about it when we advised them we were leaving the state the evening after our pickup was to be completed and they needed to pickup. The crew who did our pickup was not professional at all, and upon further review they lied on the paperwork that our items had damage or stains on them when all of our furniture was literally BRAND NEW and purchased for our new home! It took them 10 days to deliver to our new home, with no communication at all, and once the truck arrived we were horrified by what we found....ALL of our furniture was damaged and our SEALED (zip-tied & taped closed) storage totes/bins were broken into and ransacked while in Bekins possession. None of our furniture was wrapped when it showed up for delivery. There were cut zip-ties all over the truck and over our bins clearly indicating someone went through them looking for things to steal....and they did. When the Pottstown office was made aware of the situation, they didn't care at all or even apologize. Nicole was extremely ignorant on the phone, pushed the blame on us, and now won't return our calls when we want answers as to what happened. They are basically washing their hands of the situation and think that it is ok to charge people for a move, and then cause thousands of dollars in damage and go through peoples personal belongings. We are still in the process of trying to sort through they mess they left us and have taken pictures of everything. But so far multiple electronics, documents with personal info, birth certificates, pictures, video games, tax records, etc. are all missing. Our signed contract was with Bekins, yet they outsourced the move to a 3rd party (Mover Dudes) without telling us and it was all jammed into a smaller truck then how it was picked up, and now they won't take responsibility for damages or even apologize. They falsified paperwork after we signed it so they could claim our stuff was damaged, dented, stained, torn, etc to cover themselves and gaslight us. They are frauds and don't care about people or their belongings! We are now seeking legal council to sue this company for damages since they won't return any phone calls. Thanks for nothing Bekins! My quote from Jeff said uncrating was covered in the delivery fee. It's written right on the quote. As I have said from the very beginning, I did not have a contract with your crating company. I did not negotiate rates. I did not select them. You did. Your quote specifically called out a single dollar value for the crate. I randomly received the email from them to pay them at the beginning and then I talked to you and told you I had no contract with the crate company. I had a contract with you. You were responsible to crate and uncrate my item as per the quote. You had over two weeks notice to reach out to the crate company to schedule them to uncrate my item and you did not do that. They called me, which again, I had no contract with them, I had a contract with you. I uncrated it myself. Your team damaged my walls, my stairs and my railing. Your team was unable to lift a king size mattress. Your team was unable to deliver my mattress and they destroyed it. While moving the first box springs in, the team couldn't negotiate the turn, so I held the top down and it got in with minor scrape on the stair wall that could be painted to fix. I told them I didn't mind the scrape...so I guess they took that to mean I would be ok with gouges because when they moved the second one in, they gouged the walls so deeply they have to be patched. My loveseat was not wrapped and it was put in the truck on it's arm. On the arm. All of the weight on the arm. Many boxes were damaged and as you can see from the inventory, they didn't leave my house damaged. My mattress was not packaged when it arrived. My coffee table wasn't wrapped. My sewing machine wasn't wrapped. My bedside table wasn't wrapped. All furniture was supposed to be wrapped...it was when it left my house. No one reviewed paperwork with me until the end of the day. I did not sign any of the inventory as I have no idea what is damaged yet. You team showed up with no tools. They borrowed my contractors tools (hammer to remove a door) Chris worked very hard all day. Tony barely did anything at all. Tony would move one item and then sit in the truck for 20 to 30 minutes at a time. Tony specifically told me he has an ulcer and he was afraid he was going to vomit in my house. He was not fit for work. Gabby, bless her heart, didn't get here until really late. Oddly enough, once Gabby showed up, Tony actually worked consistently. The note below specifically states that I ask you not to invoice Oct as my move date was Oct 2 and I was paid through Oct 24. You invoiced it anyway. And it is absolutely true I lost my temper when your employee argued with me again about the crating company you hired. Please extend my apologies to her for my language. I will be happy to send the pictures again, but I sent them all day yesterday to the email I had on my phone. If I could give less than a 1 I would. On the day of move, 3 movers arrived with 2 trucks. One driver decided to leave 3 minutes later with one of the trucks. As it turns out he didn't feel like moving furniture from a 3 story townhouse on a 90 degree day. That left 2 men and 1 truck - not what was committed to. The move started at 8am. Another driver and truck did not arrive until 7pm. needless to say it began to rain and my furniture was left outside wet. I would never recommend this company if you need to store your belongings. We moved out of our 4 bedroom home on September 27, 2018 and our things were all stored for 7 1/2 weeks. When we moved into our new home, we had many broken items...pole lamp, dining room chair (leg snapped in half and chair tucked away in the corner of the attic so we didn't see it), brand new All Clad slo cooker, too much stemmed glassware to mention. Boxes were smashed, wardrobes were MISSING (and never recovered). It was evident that no care was taken with storing the boxes...much heavier boxes stored on top of lighter ones to cause them to collapse. So a 14-mile move cost us nearly $5000 and much heartache. I went with Bekins in Pottstown, PA, as they were a middle estimate. They moved me out, kept my things in storage for 6 weeks, and moved me in. The move was within state and less than 100 miles. I urge you to STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! Once they had my deposit, that's all they cared about. They sent a bunch of movers that were clearly contracted and several had no moving experience. I did my best to keep an eye on things myself, but it was near impossible to watch them move everything. When items arrive, you MUST be very vigilant about what they are bringing in and the numbers on each item. Do not cross off a number unless you see them carrying it in, and don't let them leave until you have looked at everything. I made a mistake and only went with the 60 cents per pound to reimburse for damaged items, basically due to a misunderstanding with my insurance company, but they will only reimburse you for what is not marked off the check sheet and what you document is damaged BEFORE THEY LEAVE. I was appalled at the damage to my things--solid large wood dresser shredded; Barbie dream house smashed beyond recognition; filing cabinet crushed; plastic bins smashed; boxes ripped open and crushed; along with many, many missing/stolen items--pennyboard; snorkel gear; propane tanks; set of expensive kitchen knives; Dyson vacuum; at least a dozen huge plastic bins with clothes/toys. They also cracked all 3 of my solid wood bed frames putting them together. It was awful and I spent over six months fighting with Bekins to get reimbursed. They WILL NOT speak to you; will respond only through mail--not even email or voicemail. It was the worst experience I ever had, and implore you to stay away from this company. After all was said and done, I received a whopping $374 for this disaster for thousands of dollars in missing and damaged items. The worst moving company!!!! Never us them. First off the day the truck was supposed to come they called one hour before and said my driver could not make it he was still in NY finishing a house. So they sent Olympia one of there companies they but the items on truck. That was not the truck that was going to deliver my items! So they took my stuff to there dock took everything out for the next truck to come and pick it up to deliver to Florida . So on the way the truck broke down , the driver had to get new truck. Horrible horrible horrible. I have never had to put things in storage for any length of time before so I had no idea what to expect in terms of inventory and accountability. They gave us about 10 sheets of paper to sign AFTER they packed up the truck saying "here's everything, sign here." When they delivered our things 3 months later, things were out of boxes, loose clothing, damaged furniture And worst of all 1 entire box was missing - the box containing all of my sterling silver. Of course since their method of itemization was so crappy I didn't even realize that box wasn't here for a week. Filed a claim and it was DENIED since we signed saying we received everything. Complete Failure! My family and I recently used Bekins in Pottstown for a local move , approximately 10 miles. We used them because we had used Bekins for a move from NJ to Malvern, PA about 3 years prior and had a good experience. We had a representative come to home for an estimate and walked him around the entire house. We showed him multiple pictures, paintings, mirrors and furniture to be moved. We were given an estimate and proceeded.b we had a two day move. Day one was the basement, mostly odds and ends. They informed us that the estimator did not tell them about glass pieces we showed him for our desk and entertainment center and could not move them? That was just the beginning of the worst moving experience we have ever had. We have moved about five times before and never had such a terrible, unprofessional experience. Of course the supervisor never showed up either day as well, and never returned any of our phone calls. Not only was our favorite piece of a furniture, a glass china cabinet broken. I can not explain how many items were scratched, gouged, broken. The movers said they were not prepared for the items to be moved and did not have the proper packing. None of our picture frames were wrapped individually and almost all had some kind of damage. Our metal desk was scratched and gouged so bad, like it was dragged on the pavement. A sculpture that was wrapped and boxed was shattered. Almost every piece of furniture, not just a couple pieces was damaged, scratched, dirtied like it was garbage to be thrown away. We emailed the owner and never apologized, just said fill out the form for damaged goods, which of course does not cover scratched or scuffs at their discretion. We really have minimal recourse. I normally don't take the time to provide negative feedback but we had such a terrible experience I hope this will help anyone else ever considering using Bekins in Pottstown for any type of moving services in the future. Three guys arrived 2 hours late, one of the guys kept playing on his phone, using my bathroom and sitting on my furniture. He was so bad that I the two guys said that they were going to bring him back to his car. This took another 2 hours while they brought him back and they stopped for food. A simple move turned into the worst experience of my life. The truck was too small and they had to do the move in 2 trips, the first day ended at 3:30 in the morning! Insane!! I finally decided to post this review, because I continue to get angry every time I see one of our many pieces of furniture marred or damaged by these movers. We moved in April, and our move was not good. We wished we had paid attention to these reviews instead of going for the lower price. The person who packed the items to be boxed was very good. He was very diligent in protecting our possessions. However, the moving crew was different matter entirely. Their only concern was to move our items as quickly as possible so that they could be done with our job. They had no concern about the interior of our house or the items they had to move. No time or effort was made to protect walls, floors or items. Drawers were not removed from furniture in order to lighten them, so walls and floors were damaged in moving the heavier-than-necessary items. We had the first mark on a wall within 5 minutes of the start of the job. Just about all of our furniture shows scuff marks and scratches, a few pieces were broken, and the couch had a grease smear. We did not attempt to make a damage claim with Bekins, since (given the results of move) we were concerned this would delay getting our house on the market. You get what you pay for. read more

Used them for a move in May and it was simply the worst moving experience I've had moving. They didn't send a big enough truck so they had to come back the next day (the day of settlement to pick up the remainder) and I had to call to make this happen as the moving team just said "Oh well". They dropped of the items and lost the hardware to my kids bunk beds (the movers wrapped them in packing tape! Probably thrown away on the truck), broke several pieces of furniture, did not use plastic runners so our carpers were filthy (they found the runner plastic at the back of the truck towards the end of the unloading), dropped and damaged many boxes and the list goes on. I would NEVER use them again. If you are considering I would highly recommend against them. I've called them three times to speak to a GM or manager and always had to leave a message and it has never been returned. Bekins Transfer and Storage failed to arrive to our home as scheduled for our move - calling one hour prior to the scheduled time cancelling even though that move had been scheduled for over one month. During the re-scheduled move several items and pieces of furniture were damaged / destroyed. Our new hardwood floor was damaged as well. Several large items were either left in wrong place or left disassembled without required hardware. Finally and despite all of these issues (which I notified them of via phone and email) - Bekins billed me additional money for their services - charging my credit card without my permission with no attempt at service recovery for all of the items I have outlined above. Moved household contents on August 14, 2013 (pick-up) fro 19382 to West Chester, PA 19382 with unloading August 16, 2013. Took out full insurance, no deductible on contents. Boxes were packed by us, but all other items were to be protected by the movers.The loading crew was headed by one oerson, the unloading crew headed by another. Upon opening up the van, the contents were found poorly placed, in most cases unprotected. There was significant damage to contents. Photos were taken at each stage of the process, along with itemization for documentation. Bekins professional acknowledged that there was poor placement in the van and also acknowledged damage by each item. A witness was there, a former trucking company owner, who reviewed the damages and confirmed with Bekins rep. Bekins professional tried calling many times to Bekins for the owner to come and observe the situation - but he never appeared. Bekins Claim Dept, was notified. A Transit Presentation of Loss was filed September 3rd, with Bekins, with itemization of damage and amount claiming per item. Full sets of photos were also emailed to Bekins. The estimate for repair/replacement provided for 26 items was in excess of $15,000. Only only 2 small items were damaged that were boxed, all significant damage occurred by Bekins lack of protection and placement. Bekins sent a representative of a Restoration company who took photos of damaged items. I received an email from Claims Dept offering settlement of approx 10 cents on the dollar, which I stated was unacceptable, since the insurance policy was for full replacement or acceptible repair. Claims Department said that offer was firm. I requested a list of the repair/replacement costs for what they offered for settlement, but never received. I sent a letter to the Better Business Bureau. My next step is to follow a complaint with the PA Public Utility Commission, if not resolved. This was the move from hell. Everything which I moved was damaged. As an example, I was told that my mattresses would be put in mattress bags. Nope. Half covered and left in a dirty warehouse. They are filthy. And, bent in half beyond repair. To top it off, Wheaton Van Lines is taking months to settle with me on the thousands of dollars of damage. I fully agree with the other reviews: stay away from these guys. read more

I am furious. This company is a sham...had to quickly move out a bedroom set, due to hospital equipment being needed. Jeff came to the house, gave us paperwork to sign, then after things were moved, we had a balance of $104 to pay. But that's not the worst of it....we were told that we paid for storage until Feb 10, so now we are trying to pick up and they way we owe $50 for Feb! I said no, Jeff said it was prorated, and we had until Feb 10 to pick up without incurring additional storage fees. Lady said they don't prorate the months for storage! And, we were told there would be a $35 fee to pick up as their guys needed to get everything out of the warehouse. Now they are saying there is a $40 an hour, per person for their guys to get things out of the warehouse, and stand there until all of the things are loaded (by us) into the truck to move out. I am beside myself! I give a NO STAR rating to this company of con artists!!!!! read more

The whole moving experience was horrible from start to finish. When they moved us out of our previous home, they did not similar to other reviews sent insufficient packaging, man power and trucks. How can you send out a person to estimate and be off by so much? Not like things just pop out of nowhere when it was already in the house. So the move took way longer than it should, and at the end of the day things were rushed and just placed on the truck without consideration or care. We stored our stuff for 2 months and then when we moved into our new home, it was such a disastrous move into the new home. First, they sent people it seems were selected at the last minute which I confirmed with the supposed supervisor on site. The move again took very long and the movers that were there were not strong enough to carry things in. So at the end of the day, a few lamps were broken, a bunch of furniture broken and scratched, new hardwood floors just put in dented and scratched. We paid a lot of money for this service and all they do is cut us a check for under $200 for all the things that were broken. The whole time was fighting tooth and nail to get a settlement and they took forever to even produce that $200 check. All I can do is give up and chalk this up to a bad experience and I would recommend never to use Bekins ever. I would steer away and would not even put my enemies through this type of experience. read more

It has been almost a year now , since I first called Bekins Moving Company and asked them for help in moving my family from the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Baltimore, Maryland. I made this call with confidence, since I had used them before in transporting some items from the Midwest, with excellent results. In response to my phone call, a meeting was set up between myself and their Relocation Specialist. My confidence received a boost from this meeting: the gentleman was articulate, well-manned, and knowledgeable; indeed, I signed a contract by the end of our meeting. That was the best part of my experience--from that day, things went downhill swiftly. The day of the move was a near-record ninety-six degrees, and the crew of four men was less than necessary to do the job well. The heat and lack of manpower made the move a sad experience--a number of items were broken upon delivery, and many items were placed in the wrong rooms. The move was also inconvenient in that the items were not delivered until the next morning and the cost of their services was very expensive. As I write this review, the trauma of this move has begun to fade. I would urge would-be consumers of Bekins services( at least, from Pennsylvania ) to consider A) not moving, B)selling all your possessions before moving and buying furniture at your new location, or C) last but most practical, find another moving company. read more

Giving 1 star is even painful. Wow, we had such an incredibly bad experience with Bekins! People need to beware similar to the last reviewer. We had the same experience as he did with mis-quoting...showed up without the right boxes to pack TV & mirrors & then of course charged us more for those. Truck they sent wasn't nearly big enough so had to send another the next day which backed up to our settlement on the house, how very inconvenient. Even though it was evident the first minute the truck pulled up that it wasn't going to fit our stuff. And did I mention the customer service woman was severely rude every time we spoke?! Just like in previous reviewer's case our items were then handled SO poorly. Just about every piece of wood furniture was at minimum scratched, some broken. Boxes were crushed, dishes, glasses broken. To top it all off our stuff was in their storage for 6 weeks and items were STOLEN. Very high value items. All in all though the owner, Craig Schloer, has handled the claim incredibly badly. They said they gave us all this "insurance" and come to find out (after we went through the trouble of filing the claim) the so called insurance doesn't include theft of items while in storage. How convenient. He even wouldn't as a sign of good faith refund any portion of the over $5,000 that we paid him. And never apologized for a thing...go figure. RUN to any other moving & storage vendor. read more
