Two shampoos, a head massage, great conversation, beautiful salon atmosphere. I genuinely felt taken care of. As someone with alopecia who doesn't go to salons often, trusting someone with my hair felt significant, and Ashley made me feel comfortable the entire time. I drove from Washington, DC and would absolutely do it again. I even bought products afterward because for the first time in a long time, my hair felt manageable and healthy in a way I could actually maintain myself. That is not what I received. I arrived with long, full, healthy hair that I had spent years growing and caring for. There was no thorough consultation. Yasmine hardly spoke to me throughout my appointment. She asked a few questions at the outset. There was no education component aside from attempting to sell me products at the conclusion of the service. Despite my very clear request to maintain my length, a significant amount of length was removed, far beyond what was discussed or was necessary to improve the shape of my hair. That loss is permanent. It will take years for my hair to fully recover, and there is nothing that can be done in a follow-up appointment to restore what was taken. Beyond the length loss, the cut itself lacked cohesion. It did not account for the different shrinkage rates across my curl patterns, which range from approximately 3C to 4B, and as a result the shape dried unevenly in an angular helmet shape with blunt awkward bangs, rather than nicely framing my face. The styling portion of the service further obscured the cut. Extremely heavy product was used, weighing my hair down and masking the actual shape. I was not given meaningful education or instruction on how to achieve my desired style at home, despite this being a central component of what differentiates a Curl Discovery Cut from a standard haircut. I left without clarity on how to properly style my own hair and with a result that looked nothing like what I had requested. In addition, the handling of my hair during the service was uncomfortably rough. In the days following my appointment, I experienced ongoing breakage that I had not been dealing with prior. After the appointment, I attempted to resolve the situation in good faith. The only option offered was an in-person assessment and potential adjustment under the salon's service guarantee. No refund, partial or otherwise, was considered. Given the extent of the length already removed, the lack of trust created by the initial experience, and the fact that additional cutting could not undo the damage, returning to the same chair did not feel like a meaningful or safe remedy. If they were genuinely sorry for what happened and the aspects of the service that were not delivered, they would offer a meaningful remedy, not a requirement to put my hair back into the same hands that already damaged it. After my experience, I read additional reviews and noticed a consistent pattern. Multiple clients describe receiving little to no actual consultation or education as part of the Curl Discovery Cut, despite that being a core part of how the service is marketed. Others note difficulty working with looser or mixed curl patterns, overly heavy styling that obscures the cut, failure to account for shrinkage, rough handling during detangling, and breakage following their visit. When concerns are raised, responses from ownership frequently rely on the service guarantee policy rather than acknowledging gaps in execution or offering a proportionate resolution. Because of those reviews, I am always extremely cautious--I normally bring my own products and explicitly request that nothing else be used on my hair. This time, I made the mistake of forgetting my products and had to rely on theirs. Immediately after the so-called "deep conditioner" was applied, my scalp began burning. I asked what was used and was told it was only deep conditioner and that no chemicals were involved. That explanation makes absolutely no sense. I have not had a perm in nearly 15 years, yet the burning sensation was identical to a perm burn. I washed my hair today, and if there was any doubt before, it is now gone. Whatever was used altered my hair's natural texture. My hair is naturally curly--after washing it, my curls are gone and my hair is now noticeably straight. In Photo #2, the left side is from today's wash. The right side is from my last at-home wash. The difference is undeniable. There are no curls on the left. Photo #3 is my usual hair texture. I can't help but question whether this was done to make my hair more "manageable," especially since my longtime stylist, Veronica--who was meticulous and respectful of natural hair--suddenly left the salon. The current level of care and consideration is clearly not the same. I've seen previous responses from Julia disputing similar claims. I am not interested in a response. Nothing anyone says will reverse the damage that has been done to my hair. I am beyond frustrated and deeply disappointed. I will never return, and I plan to report this to the BBB and pursue any other recourse available. While nothing will restore my hair to its natural state, I hope this review prevents someone else from making the same mistake I did and continuing to support this business.

Based on that title, I felt confident she would know exactly what she was doing. I explained clearly that I wanted my greys blended with cool-toned grey highlights. I emphasized multiple times that I did not want blonde or yellow tones and was hoping for a more silver/white result. Uzma reassured me that this was her specialty and that she was very creative, which made me feel comfortable moving forward. During the consultation, she mentioned a $75 charge for a haircut, which I initially declined due to the high price. As the service went on, I checked in several times to confirm the highlights would not turn out yellow. I was repeatedly reassured they would be close to what I wanted. Unfortunately, the results were very disappointing. After the first toning, my hair was noticeably yellow. A second toning improved it slightly, but it still was not the cool grey tone I requested. I also noticed a harsh, visible line where the highlights began along my part, which looked unnatural and poorly blended. When I brought this up, along with my concern about the yellow tones, I felt my feedback was dismissed. I was told, "everyone else thinks it's white," which was frustrating as my opinion as the paying client should have been the priority. After spending about five hours in the salon, I decided to go ahead with the haircut. However, I was then told there wasn't enough time because my stylist needed to leave soon.
