Tonya has been my stylist for a few years and I'm always satisfied when I leave. This is the first place I've been to where I don't have to restyle my hair as soon as I leave. Tonya is very efficient. I'm ALWAYS out of here in less than 2 hours which is major! She doesn't overbook and leave you in the waiting for hours. She's very knowledgeable about hair and won't let you get certain services until your hair is ready for it. Tonya is also very friendly and personable. Moni, her assistant, is the sweetest. She's very thorough and thoughtful when washing my hair. She pays attention to your hair and scalp and uses the appropriate products for your specific needs. Today is my first visit to this salon. I have been looking for a new hair stylist ever since December 2017. I found this salon and from the reviews it seems Ms. Debbie is popular and I called for her to be my stylist today. She is sweet and very attentive to the needs of her clients. She really took the time to hear what style I was looking to her and knowing that I have been natural for 5 years my desire to get a relaxer with a nice short cut was my wish for today and so far she is amazing. The salon is clean, very well kept and although today is not as busy as she said it normally is, I still feel like she is taking her time to make sure she is doing her best. I'm excited to see how the next visit goes. I'll be back in about 2 more months. The shop is still great after all of this time. It's now 8/2020 and I've been seeing Debbie since I first met her in 2018. It's been nice and the shop is clean, open and the stations are nice. read more

My stylist Julia does an awesome job with my hair. I've been natural for over a year and when she's done with it I look like I have a relaxer. I go on a regular basis and my hair looks very healthy as a result. I didn't give five stars because of price is a little bit more than others, but it's worth it because my hadn't always look good. read more

4/26/14 I have been slacking on writing a review for this place. I have been coming to this salon on and off for about 4 or 5 years now. My really good friend suggested Tonya when I was looking for someone. In 2010 after my sister's wedding I decided to transition from relaxed hair to natural and didn't want to do the big chop. I decided to grow out my hair to get my curls back but during transition your hair is hard to manage as you are dealing with two textures and the hair can be really fragile. Tonya made it all the better and her assistant Brittany is awesome as well. I actually just went this past Saturday to get my hair done for a wedding. I was in at 8 AM and I got a wash, a deep conditioning, a trim and styled and was out the door by 10 AM. The one thing that I love about this salon and Tonya is that they are AMAZING on time management. I hated in the past spending an entire day in the salon for a style or service I could just do at home. Now I have no worries when I am able to make it over Tonya. Her pricing is so reasonable too! All of the staff is friendly, professional, and personable, but also know how to have fun with each other and their customers. The salon is neat, clean, and organized. The have a small fridge that stores water and drinks that customers can purchase as well as candy bars and other snacks on top. They have a TV in the waiting area as well as a speaker system where they play tunes from an iPod on the docking station. Always creating a great R&B vibe in there. The salon is located with other business in a shopping center of sorts. Parking can be tricky in the front as there are other businesses around as well, but there is plenty of parking in the back. Every time I leave there I am getting many compliments on my hair. I have recommended Tonya to my sister and also numerous other friends. If you are looking for a new salon this is the place for you. I have been going to Xscape for a while now Ashlynn is my hair stylist there. I often wear protective hair styles so my natural hair doesn't get the attention it should. However since I have been going to Ashlynn I been trying to go more frequently and get treatments in order to take better care of my hair. Not only has my hair been looking more full and healthy but I also love my hair when Ashlynn styles it. She pays careful attention to detail and always slays my hair. I was in search of a new hair salon for some time now and was at my wits end with finding a place that took care of my hair. A place that treated my hair while respecting my time. I didn't visit the salon often because I didn't have a whole day to give to my hair. Tonya was recommended to my sister through a mutual friend, and each time she went I couldn't help but hate at her hairstyles and the growth she experienced in a short period of time. I'm very indecisive about my hair and what I want, natural vs chemical, but whichever way I have my hair, she does an awesome job of treating it. She is very flexible with appointments and respects your time. Expect to be washed, trimmed, treated and styled and out the door within an hour and a half. Everyone is friendly. The shop is clean and spacious (which really matters to me), and the waiting area isn't just tossed in a corner. I have recommended Tonya to others but all the stylists do great work. This was the first time I've been to this location and I got a shampoo and trim. They put me under the dryer to get a nice deep conditioner. The owner brow dried and cut my hair. She did an amazing job!!! I would go back there again if I didn't move out of Baltimore. I definitely recommend. The only negative I would say is the price is a little high but it's worth it. read more

Overpriced. $25 for a mans haircut??? Also, she did not fully trim my sides although I asked two times. Hairs were still sticking out. When I got home I just used my razor. Also, as she was cutting my hair she was talking to a supplier about shampoos and different things that he was offering for about 7mon. Made me wonder whether my hair has her full attention. This salon is awesome! As a black woman, getting your hair done is mandatory, and finding a good stylists takes lots of trial & even more error. What I have learned in my 20+ years of sitting in hair salons is that I hate sitting in hair salons! Thing I love about this salon, they respect your time! On a Saturday, you can make an appointment at 545am and your stylist will be here, on time! I got here at 6am last week and was out the door at 715a(got a treatment and a trim). I go to Kim, she is the TRUTH! The other stylists in here are equally as good I would assume, since they are here when the shampoo girls are here and before their clients as well! ( After a No Show from a different stylist, from a different salon. ) I didn't want her disappointed about not getting her hair color done. So I took to Yelp to find a Salon near my area with good reviews and found Xscape Hair Studio in Owings Mills...Perfect! Walked in, told the receptionist what we needed and like magic Ms. Brittany saved the day! She took us right away, gave us a consultation, recommended other services that my niece needed and quoted a reasonable price! She works like lightening! Don't do it. Deb the owner serviced me. I'm a natural that wanted a changed and went from long to short. The atmosphere was pleasant, however I went in for color and cut. I wanted color on top ends for a ombré grown out look. She colored the entire hair from root to ends. The cut, uneven and patchy. The next day I went to the hair Cuttery in Owings Mills. She couldn't understand how someone that had longevity in the business and an instructor could do such work. BTW, the last thing she said" it would not have took so long if I were relaxed" I forgot to mention, my hair looked nothing like the picture I showed her. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!!! I've had some really terrible haircuts in the past, but this is the worst by far. The layers that Darian gave me are completely uneven, choppy, and do not blend at all. She also did not say two words to me the whole appointment and barely even asked me what I wanted. She did not even wet my hair, and I still paid out the mouth. Not to mention that I was told a simple haircut would cost $25 but was charged $30. Worst experience ever! read more

I wanted to get my hair permanently colored and since there were good ratings on yelp, I made the appointment for it. The staff was friendly. But unfortunately it didn't help my hair. After two and half hours of moving from seat to seat, I was terrified when I saw my hair on the mirror. It was bright orange on my roots for about an inch length, when I clearly stated that I wanted it to be dark blackish red. I was very disappointed and so wanted to run away. But I wasn't going to pay $100 for bad hair dye, and the hair dresser saw my disappointment on my face and said that she would fix it and that it rarely happens. I was surprised to hear that specially after she telling that she had been doing hair for 36 years. I expected a lot more from someone who claimed to have that much experience. So finally, my hair was turned into a very unattractive blackish pink color. I've had enough. So after three hours wasting my time, I walked away paying $140 for absolutely ruining my hair. After three days, I washed my hair today. And all that blackish pink went away making it even a much worse look. I am seriously considering what I should do next. Unless you're very young and want a surprise on your hair color, please save time and money and find another place. I also learned never to trust what I read online for services. read more
