I used Bei Capelli to get my hair and makeup done for my wedding. I really liked my makeup but the hair could have been better. I stated several times during my trial run that I have thin hair which doesn't hold curls well so I would need a lot of hair spray. My stylist did a great job since the curls held for the rest of the day. However, on the day of my wedding I didn't think I would need to reiterate but I guess I should have since within 2 hours my hair had lost the curls and now barely had waves. I had a party of 7 that also got their hair and makeup done. For the most part everyone turned out great. Renee in particular did an amazing job on my sisters hair and makeup. It was beautifully done and just how my sister wanted it. My other sister had Deirdre and while her hair turned out great, the makeup was horrible. My sisters face literally looked orange. My sister asked for natural makeup but yet it was evident it had been caked on. My sister ended up redoing her makeup. My moms stylist was Lacey and while my mom's makeup turned out alright, her hair was another story. It wasn't at all what my mom wanted. I remember my mom walking up to me once she was done with her hair and makeup and in my mind I was thinking it was the worst hair style ever. It made her look like she was 20 years older. My mom ended up having to redo her hair. So overall mixed feelings about this place. The price for the wedding styling was reasonable but the stylings were nothing to write home about lol. Oh and I used my card to pay for the tip and the guy at the counter ended up overcharging me $20 which I'm not sure how it happened since it I would assume his computer did the math for him. I really appreciated how open they were to feedback and how patient they were with my group. Ok so...nails and wedding styling aside, my romance is done here. While everyone is friendly and the hours so accommodating of my schedule, I cannot seem to get a good haircut. I do not live in Portland, Maine. I have been spending my summers here since I was a kid. I met my husband here and we got married an hour outside of Portland. So I basically had to plan my wedding from a distance (the world looks blue and green...) and although I was familiar with a lot of the local buisnesses that we used, I was nervous about my hair situation. I know a ton of great people in the Philadelphia area, but was very wary about getting my hair done in Portland, I didn't want pretty tendrils..I wanted hippy pinup. And boy was I pleasantly surprised. I got a recommendation from a friend who had been living in Portland for a while. When I went in for my consultation, I was pleasantly greeted and instantly introduced to my stylist (whose name now escapes me). We sat down and went through pictures and I showed her exactly what I wanted. We did a run through and I loved it! They were also able to quickly wax my brows after my appointment. My actual appointment on the day of my wedding was quick and easy! It was windy and rainy outside and they gave us an umbrella! This place runs hot and cold. I've had some of the best cut/color experiences and some of the worst. At least as far as the cut goes. On those occasions when I'm in Maine and need a bit of a trim or want an overall new look, I've booked appointments here and have come away more than once feeling like, OMG, WTF did they do to me? For the most part, the stylists are good and skilled, but I haven't found the one that is able to work magic with my hair every time. Three stars is about right and could go either way(2 or 4) depending on the results. Would I recommend them? Hmmmmmm. Not sure there. A trim? Yes. Anything beyond that - especially for those of us who do not have long, very straight hair, I'd be cautious. read more

I got a dramatic haircut here, going from long to a pixie cut. First off, I hate the tier system- they have multiple levels of stylists, each with a different price point. I wanted someone experienced so I opted to go up a couple levels. And while the place is beautiful, the haircut was awful. It looked nothing like the picture I showed her. When I asked her to cut it shorter, she halfheartedly snipped a few spots and took the robe off, even though I clearly wasn't impressed. It was my first time leaving a salon feeling ugly. The upside was that my cut was free because I donated my hair. So I used the money to see another stylist at a different salon later that day and got the haircut that I wanted in the first place. Three times a charm. I moved here a year ago, and have been searching for a stylist. I went to two other places and was not happy with my cuts. However, Bei Capelli was awesome! Very modern hip environment, but not cold. Offered me a drink and gave me a tour since it was my first time. There is this dimly lite room where you got your hair washed (they had a name for it, but I forgot), so it was real relaxing. My stylist, Nicole did a great job on my cut. Making appointments in person or over the phone are a breeze; you can build a profile that details if you need extra time (for thicker/longer hair) and if you have a stylist preference. It works for all budgets as each professional works on a level, I believe it's 1-4 and up to owner. If you're looking to stay within a limited budget you can choose a lower level stylist, but even the level 3 professionals are shockingly affordable! There are two aspects of being a client here that I've found stand out compared to anywhere else: 1. It is their goal to make you comfortable. They are happy to bring you coffee, tea, magazines, anything you need. Always so friendly and honest and that's so important! 2. They are very professional, knowledgable, and clean! Every time they use a brush on you its a freshly cleaned brush they unwrap from plastic. They tell you exactly why they are using that shape of brush with that specific product, and how to do it at home yourself! They aren't afraid to tell you 'I really think cutting THIS way would work better for your face shape' or 'this color might blend better with your natural color.' They are great listeners, they hear what it is you want/need and delivery beyond expectation! Every artist that works there should be proud of their reputation. I knew I wanted to donate to Locks of Love and I was dying for a haircut. Per some research and recommends, I ended up at bei capelli and BOY am I glad I did. The atmosphere rocks, they offer coffee and water for free and my stylist Jaelynn was AWESOME. she was sweet and listened to my needs. I was nervous about going short and she eased my worries. The best part was the shampoo. They have this very zen little room where they wash, massage and pamper. It totally helped ease my anxiety. Everyone commented on my hair (both the ponytails she hacked off and the final product) and it made me feel so good and pampered. It was my first time in there and I was the last customer of the day but she still took me around and showed me the products she used and answered all my questions. She could have rushed me out the door but she didn't. That alone was enough to keep me coming back. I'm new to the area and have been avoiding the hair salon because, let's face it, new hairdressers are scary!! I was recommended by a friend to try out Bei Capelli and after scouring their Instagram and noticing a special price for their "model stylists" I decided to give Maddie and Bei Capelli a try. First impression: WOW! The place is stunning! The receptionist was lovely and offered me a beverage while I waited, which wasn't even five minutes ! Maddie was wonderful. She was polite, patient, and not too talkative (which is great for me as I'm a bit awkward when it comes to small talk). She checked on me often and made sure I was comfortable at all times, asking if I needed another water or anything to drink. Most importantly I loved the final product! I was looking for a salon to take care of my hair and makeup for my wedding along with my bridal party so I decided to try Bei Capelli for a style and casual make-up application to get a feel for the establishment. I had a great experience with Sam, and decided to call back a few months later (over six months before my wedding) and inquire about their wedding packages. The wedding coordinator Lisa was not very helpful and she was hard to get ahold of. Every time I called I gave people information on my wedding but no one seemed to be passing along the information. I finally was able to connect with Jessica, who was very friendly and helpful and I came away from the conversation excited to work with them. Then, Lisa sent me a quote that was over double the prices posted on their website and what Jessica shared with me during our conversation. When I called to ask for a breakdown of the quote, Lisa refused and said that that was how they made it worthwhile for the stylists to travel out of the salon. My wedding is literally taking place a quick 30 minute drive away...seems a bit ridiculous to double the price after another manager had verbally given different pricing over the phone. Definitely would NOT recommend this salon for wedding services. read more

Had a wonderful first experience at Bei Capelli. My stylist Samantha was great to work with and super helpful. I didn't particularly know what kind of look I was going for, but after checking out my hair, she almost instantly knew what we should do. She was warm paid attention to detail, making a few additional cuts after blowing my hair out to get it to set just right. The salon itself had a great vibe. Nice lighting. Loved the shampooing (and massage!) experience in the zen room. Definitely will be going back there for future cuts. I may actually cut my hair more than once a year now. :) read more

I really do love this salon and am bummed out that they don't have a location in Texas... because I totally miss having my hair done there on the regular. I've worked with several stylists because I usually called up spur of the moment for an appointment. They have all been great and when I was blonde my color was always on point when I left, none of that brassy nonsense. this will be my second review on a salon/establishment ever and I've contemplated it for weeks but feel it needs to be stated. I went into the salon and it was a beautiful atmosphere, the stylist who I was booked for was very friendly. planned for a blonde balayage and a root touch up. Walked out almost in tears considering $300 later I had two nice vibrant blonde streaks in the front with the rest looking bare minimum touch up With no curl or flare to it. I washed it the next day when usually I'll try to make post hair days last as long as I can. the salons atmosphere was cool but not worth price and outcome. Didn't want my hair cut but she insisted and now 3 weeks later I'm left STILL with a blunt/thick end haircut looking like a 5yr old with how one length it is, I wear my hair up everyday hoping it wI'll grow soon. Not to mention my hair started to brass 1.5 weeks in (every blondes worse nightmare, which usually happens weeks after appointment for me) - despite using purple shampoo I bought from the salon. Cool. spoke with 4 others saying they had a similar experience-would not recommend. read more

I miss this place so much! I live in Chicago now but Bei Capelli was, bar none, the best place for a haircut when I lived in Maine for 13 years. It is truly a big city experience tucked in a Scarborough strip mall. I think you're getting what you pay for here given that they use top of the line products from companies like Oribe. I highly recommend Jamie-- she is super easy to talk to and isn't pushy or pretentious (my two pet peeves in a stylist). Also, the head massage is the best thing ever. I have yet to find a place that gets me fully relaxed the way the Bei Capelli shampoo/massage combo does! If you live in southern Maine don't miss coming here! read more

I've been here before for cuts and hair dye job and this is my go to hair salon because they are professional and know what they're doing!! Super friendly and the place is beautiful! However, those times I've been there I didn't feel the need to write a review but I have to do it today. I went in for a cut with bangs (those are scary!) by a different stylist because it was an impulse cut type of day. Deirdre, amazing (!!) cut my bangs exactly the way I wanted. I've gotten my bangs cut twice here but they never really is to my liking, even after I washed my hair at home they're somehow always messed up and not even so I end up regretting them. However, Deirdre did an amazing job!! She also listened attentively because I was conflicted on which haircut to do but we talked and I have to say this is one of my most favorite haircut I totally would go back to Deirdre! read more

The entire appointment was flawless, their front desk is personable and helpful, even when I had a last minute change. The stylists are intelligent and professional. Bei Capelli did the hair and make-up for my wedding last month. Lacey and Renee travelled onsite to our venue and did hair and make-up for 7 people total. They were friendly, easy to work with, and listened to the girls' requests. Everyone loved how their hair and make-up turned out. Also, Lisa LaCroix was very helpful and patient in the lead-up to the wedding on all scheduling matters and questions. She helpfully answered my (numerous!) questions, which I really appreciated. She gave me a tour of the salon and then spent a great deal of time determining what I was looking for. I essentially told her I had no idea and let her give ideas and suggestions. I used to go to Bei Capelli all the time for cuts and colors, but ever since it moved to it's current location, all I've had are bad experiences. I'm only 16 now, and I truly believe these last two times I have been taken advantage of. The first instance was last year. I went in to get the ends of my hair dyed purple. No biggie right? I mean I did the exact same thing when Bei Capelli was at it's old location. WRONG. Not only did my hair come out pink, I got chemical burns on the back of my head from the bleach, and bruises, because the hairdresser was distracted talking. on. the. phone. The latest instance was when I went in to get a normal haircut. I had just started my first job and was proud of the money I was making. I got a simple wash and cut. 60-80 dollars. During the cut, the hairdresser asked me if I wanted this fancy cream put into my hair. I said sure, but explicitly asked her if it would be extra charge, and if so I didn't want it. She said there would be NO EXTRA CHARGE. She said it would only cost me the original 60-80 dollars for the cut. I agreed, and we finished up. I then went to pay, and guess what?? I was charged 200 dollars!!! Of course I couldn't dispute it, as I was only 15 and too scared to say anything! So let this be a warning, poor service and overpriced nothing's is what you'll get at Bei Capelli read more

I'm good with never going back. Is that too harsh? I really don't care since I went in to get my hair cut FOR FREE, mind you, and ended up going to a different salon two days later and getting my hair fixed. It's nice that they give out free hair cuts if you donate your hair but at least give me a decent cut and listen to what I'm saying. My stylist was cutting off my ponytails for donation and she cut my shirt. I wish I was kidding. She apologized and I was stunned into silence. After the shirt cutting, I wasn't feeling awesome about this place at all. The only saving grace is the shampoo room. It's dark and quiet and they play soothing music. I could sleep in the uncomfortable chair while the woman massaged my head all day. On to my hair cut which didn't turn out as great as I wanted. I told her the stylist that I wanted an A-line cut and that I knew it was going to be really short in the back. Looking back, I think she was afraid of going too short because she thought I would freak out. I'm not afraid of chopping my hair, it grows back. Instead of what I wanted, I ended up with a very short bob. It looked fine when she styled it, but the next day when I tried to style it, it just didn't look right. I would tuck it behind my ears and there was just a large mass of hair back there. Each day, I became progressively more and more upset with how it looked and the fact that I couldn't just let it dry and go about my day. I even told the stylist that's what I like. I'm not a high maintenance person, I like to be able to shower, comb it with my fingers and go. I ended up going to a different salon and had my hair re-cut into the style I wanted. read more

This review is for eyebrow threading and tint. I was really impressed with this salon because they offer a lot of services. Usually salons like this would not offer threading. I of course can't remember the name of the girl who did my service, but I think there is only 2 of them who do threading. The experience was very luxurious! She began by giving me a tour of the salon because it was my first time there. Then she took me to a private room to complete my service. She was SO meticulous about it (which is a good thing because these are my eyebrows!). I ended up being there probably twice as long as I expected but it was totally worth it. She actually massaged my face and I was in heaven. She massaged my face for an eyebrow threading! What! My eyebrows had really grown out, so in her first attempt at it, the shape wasn't quite as defined as I like, but she was open to getting it right for me. I left feeling very pleased. And honestly - if I'm going to have an issues with getting my eyebrows done, I'd much rather they take off less than I want, than more than I want. The coloring was done perfectly too. She took so much care in everything she did - it was really refreshing. I think my only complaints were that the room we were in didn't have a door so it was kinda loud and hard to relax when I was waiting on the tint (I wouldn't normally care but since they seem to put a lot of effort into the serenity factor, might be worth mentioning) and it was really cold in there! I prefer being cold than hot but it was pretty cold. And then of course, the price was expensive (came to $50 and then I gave a $10 tip) but I do think this is appropriate pricing given the attention and experience. Do I wish it was 30 or 40 - yes. I just walked into Bei Capelli for an emergency repair for a HORRIBLE haircut (at another salon) and was met with SUCH INCREDIBLE "ATTITUDE!" I realize it is right before a holiday- which is why I was almost in tears and hyperventilating- but I will NOT go back there EVER again because they are so rude! I looked at styles they had done on their facebook page (check it out - much more posted there than on their website), and picked one out that I liked. The hairstyle turned out better than the picture! Throughout the process we talked about what I liked and what I didn't while it was being put up, and the end result was gorgeous. I got schellac done here and overall not impressed. The woman doing my nails was friendly and pleasant. Her work was not so great. I do better myself even my husband mentioned it looked bad. She didn't paint all the way down to my cuticles so it looks like my nails have been growing out for a week. There is a lot of paint on my fingers near my nails and she said it would eventually wash off. Sorry I didn't pay $35 for my nails to look semi good. This is the second bad experience I had here and will never go again. read more
