I've only had standard haircuts at Bei Capelli and I've had very positive experiences each time. Brittany (Level 5) has consistently given me excellent layering that I can effortlessly style. Also, I once had a haircut done by Kaitlyn and I can easily say she gave me the best hair washing experience I've ever had to the point I'm considering just booking her on random occasions when I need a deep clean wash. The space is beautifully decorated and I like the lounge area (there's one downstairs and upstairs). You can enjoy coffee, tea, sparkling water and a granola bar while you wait for your appointment. Have never had an issues with the front desk, they've always been polite and kind to me! read more

I've never written a review before and I'm only reviewing the extension service. I've had extensions for three years but this was my first installation here. The stylist isn't formally trained, so the beads have too much hair and has caused major breakage, which I've never had before. The placement is also not standard so I cannot pull my hair into a ponytail any longer, unless it's at the nape of my neck. She also thinned my own hair so much, that It's going to take years to grow my hair back to what I walked in with. Needless to say, I don't recommend getting extensions at this salon until they fully train their stylists. read more

Great haircuts, but the overall experience is ruined by the customer service. The staff are consistently rude, unwelcoming, and act as if they're doing you a favor by letting you be there. It's a shame because the stylists clearly know what they're doing, but the lack of professionalism, courtesy, and basic respect makes it hard to justify going back. All I have to say is this salon knows what they are doing!!! First off I sent a message to them via FB messenger with questions and concerns. Christine the asst mgr responded fairly quickly. I have scalp psoriasis and if you remember an earlier yelp review I did not have a very good experience at another salon. So I wanted to know if there were stylists who were familiar with scalp psoriasis. In her message back she said that the owner was familiar. Advised me of her price but if that was too steep they completely understood and they would/void do a free consult with Nancy the owner to have her determine another stylist that was less expensive and would be a good fit. I completely appreciated the upfront honesty! I chose to book the appt with Nancy. She was freaking amazing. She was already somewhat familiar with my concerns. What she did though was listen. She asked again what my biggest concerns were and what I was looking for. She asked what I was currently using on my hair and what I was currently using for treatment. She did not want to interfere with my treatment but had a product in mind but would only use if I wanted her to. No pressure at all. I was game. Anything to help right? What was amazing about the next steps in my visit is how she genuinely cared while doing my hair. She would check in with me. "Is this ok? Please let me know if it starts to hurt or burn in anyway or if something doesn't feel right. I will get you right to the sink we will wash it off immediately. It was amazing. This scalp treatment felt and smelled amazing. She brought me to their shampoo room rinsed it out, washed and conditioned my hair and we went on with the cut. She was amazed at how much my scalp looked better then it had when I walked in. She even wished she had taken before and after photos. My cut is adorable. I don't usually do a lot for myself I do for everyone else and I put myself last. I was happy to put me first today. I even bought the product, which I don't ever do. They also have their Covid-19 game down. They send you an email with questions the night before. When you get to the parking lot someone will come out and greet you. Verify the questions asked and give you the ok to enter. When you walk in there is a sink to the right, they ask that you wash your hands and take a seat in there very well spaced and clearly marked chairs in waiting area. All stylists and guests are wearing masks. All stylist stations and socially distanced perfectly. I felt very comfortable being in their salon! read more

I had a totally fabulous experience at Bei Capelli yesterday. I feel like I need to Yelp this because of the epic proportion of happiness this business brought me. Let me preface this review with: I am not a beauty girl. I have cut and dyed my own hair for most of my life, and I get my trims done once or twice a year at Supercuts (I love Supercuts, no hate here!). It was recently my birthday, my black box-dye color had mostly grown out, and I decided to treat myself. (Insert Donna Meagle and Tom Haverford here.) After searching relentlessly for a place open on Sundays that would take walk-ins, I tried the final resort: Bei Capelli. I had heard great things about it, and it was the only place open, so I went for it! The receptionist was super friendly and offered me an appointment that day. When you enter this salon, it's like being transported into a magical land of beauty and self-love. Normally I feel instantly judged and underdressed/under fancified in salons, but I felt totally welcome and at ease here. My stylist, Lucy, introduced herself and gave me a tour of the salon. There's the main room, then a room off to the side with tea and coffee; a room for the heating/setting of your hair, and a shampoo room. After a consultation with Lucy, she recommended we do balayage on my hair. What I loved most about this consultation was that she was straight up about prices before even touching my hair. She told me exactly what a cut and balayge would cost me, rather than keeping it from me and having me be alarmed at the end. I recommend this to every salon. This was a great tactic that made me feel confident and prepared in the amount of money I was about to spend. Lucy did a great job explaining her processes to me, while being super friendly and consistenly offering magazines, water, and tea. They really care about the customer here - it's evident that service is key. I really value that, especially when I'm dropping some money. The shampoo/rinse room is amazing. It's dimly lit, they have soft music playing, and while rinsing out your dye, they give you a scalp massage. I've never been one for this kind of thing, but holy moly, was it great. I loved being pampered - I have never experienced this! It was great. After some toning and additional cutting, we dried my hair and I got to take a look - it was totally amazing. I really don't care about my hair (at ALL), but Lucy somehow made me pleased with it! I was a little nervous about going from black to blonde, but she was careful to not have any of my hair break off. TL;DR - this establishment is clean, beautiful, and welcoming. The stylists are top-notch and truly care about your feelings and if you're happy. I flipping love my hair after coming here. It IS a bit of a treat yo'self price - balayage and haircut was over $150 before tip. But, if you're like me and want to go for it for once, it's worth it. Bei Capelli is a very sophisticated looking salon with an open concept and lots of stylists. I moved back to the Portland area and needed a haircut so I booked with whoever had availability. I had an okay experience the first time but I wanted to try a different stylist so I booked again for another cut. This time the stylist was coloring someone's hair and intermittently cutting mine at the same time. I asked for a very short bob and the stylist didn't seem confident executing the cut. She essentially asked me how to do it in terms of which sections needed to be cut. I was taken aback and did my best to explain how I thought other stylists had cut it. The cut ended up being uneven and needless to say I didn't book another appointment and I actually haven't had my haircut since. I'm sure this is a great place if you have a dedicated stylist but I don't and I don't know how to determine who is worth seeing. read more

This place exceeded my expectations by miles. I just got a perm in Massachusetts a week ago but was not impressed by the end result, so I thought I'd drop by a local salon to see if getting a haircut might make a difference. And boy did it! I saw the plethora of positive reviews for this place so I thought I'd give it a try. First off, the interior decor is absolutely gorgeous. And the staff are all very kind and welcoming. Let's move onto the shampooing room- it's a separate room that has sort of this dim-lit, zen-like ambiance with soothing music. As you get your hair shampooed, they throw in a scalp and neck massage which was definitely impressive. I received my haircut by Kathryn, who is a trainee. They have different "levels" of hair stylists by experience and expertise, with level 6 being the highest, which is also highest in price. Because I just spent a good amount of money on my perm recently, I didn't mind going with a lower level stylist because well, to me, a haircut is a haircut. Kathryn really took the time to understand my dilemma and the look I wanted to go for. Being that she has natural curly hair herself, she seemed to grasp the image quite fast! I wanted a lot of layers to my curls to give it better shape and dimension. The finished look was EXACTLY what I was looking for, and I couldn't be happier!!! She finished off by styling my hair and giving me pointers as to how I should optimally style it at home and what products to use. It was a Sunday morning, and I was looking to get my son's hair cut. I went to Yelp to find a salon that was open on Sunday and open late, nonetheless. I found Bei Capelli, and I felt relieved because of their reputation. (We have our regular hairdresser elsewhere, but our schedules just didn't align this month). When I called to schedule an appointment, the receptionist told me that there was a level 2 hairdresser available for the time we needed and it would cost $40. Is that OK? I said, yes. I felt a little caught off guard that she stated the price at that time and attached it to this level 2 nonsense, which means nothing to me. But, I booked the appointment. Upon arriving at Bei Capelli, you see that this place has a lot of commotion. We checked in and waited a few minutes. Then the hairdresser came over and introduced himself. As we walked over to find an empty chair, the hairdresser walked around (more than us) and eventually said, "We will just sit here"; it felt as if they just use any chair that is open. When we settled in, he asked what type of haircut my son wanted. My son responded with, "I like the cut I have, but I just need it cleaned up." Let the cutting commence. It was easily 5 times during the cut that he excused himself to go retrieve things that he needed to complete the cut. As the cut was happening, the hairdresser had no interest in talking to my son, which made it a bit uncomfortable. I mentioned how I couldn't believe it was so busy this late on Sunday evening. He replied with an attitude and "it's always this busy here." The final product was uneven and nothing to write home about. As we walked back to the front to pay, my son was given a free packet of shampoo and conditioner since it was his first visit. The hairdresser handed me a comment card and asked that we fill it out. I gave it to my son to fill out. He's a teenager, and without us discussing anything, he simply graded his experience all around "fair" (which is why they are getting 2 stars). Renee was ah-mazing. I have dirty blonde hair naturally and I wanted to go lighter. I was terrified to color my hair, so I decided on a balayage because I figured it would grow out better and the upkeep wouldn't be as bad as traditional highlights. Renee did an awesome job, it's blended so well that I can hardly tell where my natural hair color begins and ends. She spent hours on it making sure it looked perfect. I know it could probably be done faster, but I'm not willing to trust my hair to someone that wants to do a rush job on it. I've also gotten my hair cut with her numerous times and it's always turned out great, though I'll be the first to admit I'm not too picky when it comes to haircuts since I've never requested anything particularly unusual or complicated. As for the salon overall, it's gorgeous on the inside. It's a huge room and there's always music, blow dryers, and talking in the background so sometimes I have trouble hearing my stylist. We go into hair appointments with exactly what we want but it's not the ideal cut for our texture or head shape. Or we just have an idea in our head we have no accurate picture of to reference. We say things like just a trim when we want a full reshaping. Want side swept bangs when our hair lines too angular. And don't get me started on people wanting a color way too off for their skin and eye undertones then blaming the colorist. Sorry I'm rambling... The cut was great. I read around a bit and found Bei Capelli, and thank heavens was placed with Sam. Not only would she do an on site an hour away, SHE WAS THE BEST HAIR AND MAKE UP ARTIST I HAVE EVER SEEN. The hair gods have spoken!! I moved to Maine from New York/New Jersey a few months ago. I had a disastrous experience with the first salon I tried in the Old Port (which was highly rated on Yelp). I was resigned to traveling back to NY for my hair needs when a colleague suggested I try Bei Capelli. I called and explained my situation as well as the fact that I want "normal" highlights and a haircut. The receptionist thought Ana would be a good fit. Was she ever right! I walked into the salon which was similar to what I'm used to in NYC. The receptionists were so professional. They gave me a tour of the salon and hung my coat up. All the stylists had beautiful, healthy hair styled in a trendy but professional manner. I knew I was in the right place! Within a few minutes Ana and her assistant, Kathryn brought me to the chair. My hair was horrid-I was embarrassed. I showed Ana pictures of hairstyles that I liked and pictures of me with a good haircut and color. After listening to me and offering suggestions, we agreed on an approach. It was a little conservative but after my last disaster, I wanted to keep it safe. What a great job! I am thrilled!!! The quiet room where my hair was washed and final color was applied was heaven. The sink (not just the water) was WARM. Lights were dimmed, spa-like, and I almost fell asleep. Most importantly, my hair is beautiful! Ana was spot-on with both the color and style. Eureka! I got exactly what I asked for from a hair perspective, with much, much more from an experience perspective. I even bought product which I rarely do. The price was what I'm used to paying in NYC, so it isn't cheap. Ana is a top stylist and deserves her pay scale. You get what you pay for.
