I scheduled my first visit with Tulu Salon &Spa at the recommendation of a friend. I was looking for a colorist that could bring me back to the pale blonde I was (prior to COVID). My appointment was with Jamie. She listened to my concerns and was able to deliver. The color came out perfect! I am so happy with the results! Serenity did my wash and styling and she did a wonderful job. The salon is bright and airy, the staff was friendly and engaging. I am happy to have found Tulu and my new home salon. I read a few reviews on Yelp that commented on the cost. I will say that these opinions are certainly subjective. I found the cost to be very reasonable - especially with a Master Colorist. First time here and I'm hooked! I had the eyebrow wax and tint service and a cut and style. The ladies were wonderful answering all my questions, ensuring my comfort, and of course provided excellent service. I had never had eyebrow waxing and tint done before and I really like the results. The salon itself is beautiful, calm and clean. They gave me a yummy can of wine and a goodie bag of samples. I booked Tulu for my wedding's rehearsal dinner. I got a blowout, manicure, and pedicure. It was a little hard to find in the mill, but that's not their fault at all-we just got turned around. Once you make it though the entire aesthetic is amaaaazing with windows everywhere and incredible original wood floors. Anna did my mani-pedi, and the whole process was flawless. I could tell they use great products and she did my first gel manicure. It lasted so long!! She also did some great nail art, and fixed my little nit-pick with a smile. My blowout was also good, though it was my first so I don't have a broad frame of reference. She used more product than I expected but I got lots of compliments so clearly it was worth it! This place, from what I've heard, has many stylists previously of Akari in Portland. I highly recommend them and will take future business to them. Yes, they're pricey but I get one haircut a year so I don't mind a splurge! read more

While in Maine for a wedding I decided to have my hair done. I made the reservation a few weeks before I traveled to Maine to ensure I was able to get an appointment on a Saturday which is generally impossible. I had the best experience at Tulu. Jamie was my stylist and did a fantastic job on my hair. I can't say enough nice things about this lovely girl. She really took her time and made sure I was happy with the results, which I was. In our conversation we discovered that she would have normally been doing my nephews bride, Kelsey, but due to a scheduling issue and then a cancellation by someone else I got lucky and ended up with Jamie. The salon itself is stunning, it's in an old brick building and whoever did the construction and design did a beautiful job. When I come back for another occasion I will be sure to come back. Jamie Wakefield from Tulu Salon and Spa description for the product as good is INVALID as I was promised for a guaranteed results for a smooth and soft hair. I have received the service but had not approved the good service as Tulu Salon mentioned because I was told at Tulu Salon and Spa on the service date that the hair keratin treatment would require me to wait three days before washing my hair to notice the results. I followed their instructions thoroughly carefully hoping to see the proper results. I didn't wash my hair until after three days later. Therefore, I wouldn't approve my satisfactory on their service results the time I made the payment because it'll require me (according to Tulu Salon and Spa) days until I see the expected results. After I washed my hair I was shocked. My hair was puffy burned. That is not what Jamie Wakefield had guaranteed and promised me. The results were awful. Jamie Wakefield ruined my hair instead of fixing it. Tulu Salon and Spa claims that I received an expensive hair keratin treatment which turned out to be that I received a service not as it was described to me and the quality of the product is so cheap. Tulu Salon and Spa haven't made it clear to me that the service was one that wasn't eligible for refund. In fact, I wasn't told at Tulu Salon and Spa that the service wasn't eligible for refund. Instead, Jamie Wakefield is the one who stated will redo my hair or return money if the results were unsuccessful. I did not inquire about a refund policy nor I hinted about the refunding policy as they claimed to defend themselves. I did not call the salon after two days later. Tulu Salon and Spa is lying again when they claim that I call only two days later the service date. I didn't call them until Monday the 1st of April.I ended up leaving them a voicemail. On Tuesday the 2nd of April Tulu Salon and Spa has returned my call. It would not even make sense to call them only two days later, because I was still waiting three days to see the results. Tulu salon are only fabricating talk to get the money from me and that Tulu Salon only want to prove that I am bad person who has a pattern of behavior of what they claimed at me but that is all fabricated claims on me, after all they claimed that I have a pattern of behavior of what they called high-end which is totally not nice neither professional or true to talk about me or other customers this way, I do not have a pattern of behavior to frequently ask for refund for merchants services/ goods. When I talked to Tulu salon Representative over the phone on April 2nd, I told them that I followed their instructions by not washing my hair until three days later and that I still did not see the expected results. They asked me to send them a picture of my hair, Obviously that did not make sense to send them a picture through a merchandise phone; therefore I figured it is not a cell phone or a smart phone to receive photo messages so I refused but I agreed with Tulu Salon and Spa phone representative to go in person to their salon in Biddeford Maine to show them how I didn't get the proper keratin treatment results. They didn't offer me to redo the work when I went back to their store and they carelessly told me -that's how result should be-. Therefore, I don't find it fair to pay them $225. And now because I reported this matter to Bank Claim Department, now Tulu and spa salon want to have Jamie Wakefield work on redoing my hair. I did not want to get such a cheap service product and have Jamie Wakefield do more damage to my hair than the damage Jamie Wakefield did before. Tulu salon and the manager or who claim to be the manager Terra Johnson-not sure if lied to me that she was the manager told the salon to refix my hair and not refund me the money, they left me with no chance, I worked hard for my money and did not want to waste it- I contacted them again, they provided me their email, I reach them, sent pics of my hair through out the email, they again refused to solve the issue, they are so mean and not fair, they are worse salon EVER read more

Wanted to like this place :( however my hair colorist Presley turned my blonde hair...greyish blonde. Explained in detail that I wanted my roots to match my blonde hair...not that difficult right??? Ummm no! Contacted colorist a few days after (had hoped it would get blonder when I washed it) who said she wasn't able to do anything for two weeks?? Terrible customer service and over priced...really??? I have short hair and I was charged $260.00 for color that turned my hair grey, and a cut. So Including tip spent $300.00 for services that were subpar. BEWARE!! they do not stand by there work! when they are unhappy. Also, hair colorist worked on 2 other people while I was there. Sunday the 19th was my wedding day. As you can imagine it's a day you want to be perfect.. my wishes came true because I had the loveliest hairdresser/stylist named Chhouen. She traveled from her home town to mine very early(7am) so she could do my 2 stepdaughters and my hair (on her day off)...and then to fulfill the vision of each one of us (one curly and two up-do's)was pretty amazing.. she did a superb job. She represents herself very well and her employer, Paul Johnson, with whom I'm sure, is proud to have her on his team.. let me take this opportunity to thank Paul Johnson for helping me after my initial stylist bailed on me a week prior. I went to this salon, they are so miserable, they missed up my hair; basically damaged my hair, they pretended to act nice, professional, and caring, it is all fake, they only care about getting your money, they did not work with me to solve their cheapest products that were used on my hair, refused to return money and refused to re do my hair, they are the worse salon I ever went to, I am very disappointed from them and will never go back to this salon. I first went here because I had a flyer advertising a service for new clientele, for a wash and style and color consult. The person who was doing my hair seemed quite inexperienced. I wanted curls in my hair at the back of my head and down to my shoulders. She kept telling me she could not do that because the weight of my hair would pull the curls out. I showed her many pictures of styles exactly like I wanted (Which ranged from Catherine Hepburn to Betty Davis and other Hollywood stars) yet she said this was not possible for my hair because it would not hold the curl. My hair is slightly beyond shoulder length, and medium thickness. No other hair dresser has ever told me this, and the styles that the did for my hair all turned out to be beautiful. I have no reason to believe that it couldn't be done like the multiple pictures that I had shown to her. In the end, it just turned out to be a wash and pathetic style. While some of the study lists were probably very good, the particular one I HAPPENED to get (she had dishwater blond hair, and I forgot her name) the consult was very abbreviated if anything at all. I will NOT be going back here. I thinking she would use hot rollers at least, to set the hair, but only used a curling iron. All women know that for curls to stay is your hair, you need much more power than a curling iron to have a chance for the curls to stay more that a half hour. Love that I can get luxury service right here where I live. The colorist are very knowledgable and helpful. If you are receiving a hair cut and color you will be seen by two different stylist. If you aren't familiar with parking by the mills I would park on main st. The mill building that this salon is in is very beautiful and will leaving you wanting to come back again and again. I would love to recommend this salon for blow out and make up but in doing an honest review I can't. This makes be feel bad because the women who work there are very nice . The blow outs did not last even with so much product , by the time of the wedding our hair was frizzing and curls falling out. This can't be blamed on weather because the three of us had the same done in ny for a rainy day wedding five weeks previously and everything stayed beautifully.The make up in daylight appeared caked on and eyeliner line was very crooked . I told her I had sensitive eyes and would be happy to buy a new mascara but she assured me they use a new wand but that new wand keeps going into a mascara that is used on others, as a result I ended up with an eye infection at wedding reception and have been applying medicated eye drops the last five days.i would suggest going to Portland to a salon where someone specializes in make up or up do's or blowouts instead of colorists and hair cutters who are not trained in one craft. It's difficult to be good at everything and be a jack of all trades . We would have been happier had we done our own hair and makeup and not spent 400 at the salon and an eye doctor visit . Btw the prices were higher than prices in nyc which would have been ok if the results matched the price. I would not recommend salon but have given two stars for friendliness To say I was taken aback from the response by the owner to my review is putting it mildly.I booked three appointments for hair and make up with only high expectations, I did research , it was not a spin the wheel and see what salon it stops choice . If my expectations were to go to your salon and not need medical attention for visiting your salon..then yes perhaps my expectations were too high. I went to Tulu for the first time today to get a trim. My same-day appointment was easy to schedule and I wasn't kept waiting. The salon was clean and there wasn't any annoying music. Julie gave me a great cut for a reasonable price. I could tell she really knew what she was doing. She asked me the right questions before starting and then explained her approach given my hair history. Furthermore she was really easy to talk to. I appreciated that she didn't try to sell me any products. I usually dread going to get haircuts because they're awkward but for once I'm looking forward to coming back. Thanks, Julie! read more

I've been meaning to try out the salon for a while. When it comes to getting my hair done, I'm very impulsive. Instant gratification is a good way to describe it. I don't plan weeks ahead, I get the idea in my mind and I have to do it ASAP. I called up toTulu one morning and they were able to get me in pretty quickly. I looked at the list of services on their website, creating a mental budget. I get there and am greeted by a couple of women, one of which looks very angry. My colorist was incredibly knowledgeable, listening to what I typically do, and what my goal was that day. She made a couple of suggestions, and ended up completely changing the services I was receiving. I didn't realize there was a 50-plus percent increase in the cost of the process she used. Shame on me for not understanding the language used in her industry? I only discovered these significant price change I got to the register. The woman cutting my hair was not happy, was not friendly, and was fairly rude. Ultimately, I was happy with the end result, but the uncommunicated change in price and customer service ensures that I will not return, and will not recommend this place to anybody else. UPDATE: The owner has since reached out to me and made good effort to resolve my concerns. While I still will not be returning because I have zero interest in subjecting myself to the staff again, the effort is greatly appreciated and certainly did not go unnoticed. Heard about this salon from a co-worker and had been looking for a new place to get my haircut...had been driving up to Portland and was not happy with the cuts I was getting. So, looked up this salon and made an appt w/Julie...she had many years of experience and thought this might be a good fit. Went in last week and was so happy to meet her, she listened to what I was hoping for with this cut and actually understood me, it was great and she's so nice to boot! She was very clear that if there was something I wasn't happy with once I got home and worked on it myself to call and come in and she would take care of it...I was having trouble with one side, which is usually my problem area...went back in today and she did as promised, it looks great!
