I have been to bei capelli a handful of times. My first experience was completely amazing and i fell in love with the salon and how they handled my hair, I was hooked even despite the high pricing. My hair looked and felt amazing. However, the last time I went was truly disappointing. I was booked with a stylist who had two clients at the same time. It was super uncomfortable feeling like she didn't have time to do my hair, and I felt guilty knowing every minute spent with me was time the other girl missed out on too. She ended up only giving me a partial color when I asked for a full, and when I mentioned it to her she half heartedly put just few foils underneath and still charged me for a full color. It was very awkward and frustrating. Not to mention expensive for not even getting the full color i wanted. Overall, they are good but expensive. If you're going to spend the money definitely ask the front desk girls ahead of time if you will be their only client for that time frame. read more

Was in a funk with my stylist in Portland and decided to give the Burbs a try. AHHHHmazing is the only word for this salon. Mega AMAZING for my (new) stylist Sarah. What a find! I color (blonde) and have long hair. Both can be challenging areas for many stylists. NOT Sarah....color is gorgeous and the cut looked as fab this morning as it did in the salon yesterday. I have been here 5 times and each time has been great. The shampoo room, with the head massage, is so incredible. They play calming music, dim the lights and let you really relax. All 5 times I have been I have had different stylists. Some stylists have left, some moved up in the business and some just didn't have room for me on the day of my spontaneous appointments. Regardless, each stylist did a great job with my hair. I would recommend to everyone and I will continue coming back! read more

I would absolutely recommend this salon for your wedding day and group - they made it easy and it was worth it to go into the salon vs. pay for onsite services at our venue. My only complaint is with the communication leading up, a little bit of a chore to confirm details/ask questions. The service day of for a wedding was EXCELLENT. The girls got all 11 of us in the chair pretty much at the same time. All but one stylist was mindful of time and got us out the door effectively. It was really perfect - Lisa (the salon's wedding contact) had set our expectations effectively. Angela was awesome, did bridal hair and makeup, took my ideas and interpreted them really well. I loved the outcome. Feedback: - responsiveness was lacking - the wedding contact Lisa is part time, so if I needed a quick question answered, anyone on the main phone line refused to answer, and that would have been okay if Lisa's response was more prompt. It went at least a few days at times, and weeks at another. Jamie did a great job! She was professional yet very sweet and friendly. The salon is very unique, not the typical Maine atmosphere.

I have been going to Bei Capelli for about five years. After a few stylists, all good, I settled with Angela who is wonderful. The inside is very spacious, cheerful and clean and they offer clients tea, coffee or bottled water while waiting. They do not push hair products on you to purchase after. My only complaint is that sometimes the odor from the manicures is strong. read more

After relocating back to Maine from the Bay Area, I came to Bei Capelli to get a Brazilian Blowout with Elizabeth. I was hesitant to have someone else do my hair after years with the same person, but I had a wonderful experience with Elizabeth and at Bei Capelli. The salon is beautiful with a separate shampoo room that is relaxing. They offer great products (Oribe, Brazilian Blowout, etc.) but aren't pushy about buying them (as some salons are). I will definitely be back and am so relieved that I found a place and stylist I trust in Maine! read more

This is my FAVORITE hair salon EVER!! I haven't been there recently because I've been trying to grow my hair back ever since I went to go get it all chopped off to my shoulder . I've only been there once but the staff was so nice and treated me so well. They have drinks for you when you first arrive! Everything is so calming and relaxing. They don't do walk-in however, it was very easy to make an appointment a week before. Definitely going there every time to get my hair done! read more

Hired them to come on site for my Buxton, Maine wedding & they were fantastic. Everyone's hair & makeup looked great, the women were fun to work with, the admins were great coordinating ahead of time and all went smoothly. Only problem is that (even thought they and all the bridesmaids, etc. were on time) ended up running over an hour late which really messed up our photo schedule. Other than that, no complaints! I went to this salon knowing that it was high end. I had a level 4 stylist which meant that I was going to pay a a lot for the service; I didn't mind expecting to be completely satisfied. I had her do a Balayage. I liked it upon completion but quickly realized that my hair had been badly damaged in the process:( Now I have gone back to my original stylist at a different place and she is trying to slowly repair the damage done. I am so disappointed and upset that my hair was so damaged! Not only that but I bought products and ended up paying close to 350$ for all of this! Way too much to not be happy. My experience with Bei Capelli was exceptional, from making the wedding day arrangements for my daughter and her nine bridesmaids with Marketing & Events Director, Lisa LaCroix, to our bride's trial hair and makeup appointment, to the final results for all on the day of the wedding. The salon made it possible for the bridesmaids to bring lunch in for all of us while we were there, and we were in and out right on time. THE BEST! I haven't gotten my hair cut in 6+ years- minor trims by friends like, once every 2 years. My hair was down to my back. Don't get me wrong, I loved it, I know I'll miss it. But, with this cut, I'm not sure I actually will miss it (at least not as long as it looks this good!!!). One of the reasons I didn't get my hair cut is because of terrible situations with hairdressers- 3 consecutive ones where I ended up crying. Albeit, I was a teenager, but still, these were haircuts and dye jobs teenagers make fun of. But this new cut is Jacqueline Onassis-Kennedy-esque, a little longer. My stylist was Matthew, and he IS the best! I said I wanted a long bob, but he suggested I go a bit longer so it's not such a shock, and so it fits in with my life style (I have to put my hair up a lot, so there needs to be some hair to put in a pony/bun) and make it so I don't have to style it every single day, but it's still manageable and brushable (my long hair took a half hour to brush, on a good day. Usually one hour.) IT IS THE PERFECT, CUTEST CUT. I'm not sure I could actually like my hair cut anymore than I already do- it's slightly longer than I envisioned, but wayyyyy cuter than I envisioned! It took him 5 minutes to determine what I wanted, no pictures, nothing, and it's perfect! It was really busy since I went on new years eve, but they luckily fit me in, I got an awesome scalp massage and the shampoo was amazing! He gave me some great, quick-styling techniques, and for the price it is well, well worth it! So from a girl who was afraid of hairdressers who were not her friends, who had long hair for the past four years (down to my back) and got a short, short trim- highly, highly recommended! It's a bit more expensive than your average place, but you get what you pay for. And again, totally worth the money! (As long as you don't go to the salon once a week, it probably won't put you in the hole). Not sure how the other stylists are, but they all seem professional and sociable. Matthew (level 4) was absolutely amazing! I also think it shows a lot about the stylists that work there, because they train/teach apprentices and make sure they have a year of practice before they actually get on the floor- I trust that. If they can teach what they're doing, I'm totally confident in their work. read more

I went in to Bei Capelli last week after a very expensive dye job at another salon that resulted in orange hair and a hat on my head. Thank goodness Jessica was there to repair the damage. The prices are fair, the environment is tidy and relaxing, the staff is lovely. I've never had a bad haircut or color here. Why did I ever venture elsewhere? Lesson learned. read more

First. I want to say that all of the ladies are extremely talented and can do people's hair. However, I was not impressed with their ability to do makeup. I had a large wedding party come in, 8 people, and one of my friends ended up fixing all of our makeup when we left. She did a better job and i should've paid her to do our makeup. It was unfortunate since we paid about $40 to have it done and about 5 of my girls fixed their makeup after we left. Myself as the bride, I don't think the stylist fully understood what I was looking for. Unfortunately my photographer had to wait to do our pictures for my friend to fix my makeup. I scrubbed it all off. I had some pretty severe acne and the acne wasn't covered at all by the makeup they used. I will say my hair was beautiful as was all of our girls. I would just be careful with makeup. Overall the experience was great and the girls at the salon were fun, I just think they need more options for makeup to cover up. The mineral powder didn't cover me at all. Although photographers can photoshop, people with iphones and regular pictures taking pictures of my usually don't. The makeup they are choosing and their ability to do eye makeup is not quite up there. read more

I got one of the worst haircuts I've had in my life here. I feel bad giving such a poor review because all the staff were super friendly, but I am still dealing with my butchered bangs a year later. I don't remember the young man's name who cut them (Joey?), but every stylist I have been to since has remarked about how strangely they had been cut. Basically they were cut way too wide, leaving me with intense sideburn pieces and also way too short. I was in a wedding this weekend and Dee came to the hotel to do hair for a couple of us bridesmaids and the bride, as well as makeup for the bride and maid of honor. When she first arrived, everything was pretty calm. I went first and she gave me a gorgeous updo. As other girls came in, things started getting messy, and Dee was a calm island in an ocean of chaos. She was unflappable as, while she was doing hair and makeup, the bride asked if she could use some of her makeup time to have Dee help me blend out the makeup I'd used to cover my tattoos and cover the one on my back, I'd walk by her and she'd stop me and shore up my hair with a couple more bobby pins (I like to think my hair had trouble staying because it's so silky and luxurious), and people crowded around her workspace because that's where the food was. Peak Dee came when a bridesmaid arrived in tears after having her hair done by someone else and hated the style. Dee was able to quickly (and so calmly!) give her a side pony that LOOKED quick and simple, but actually required a lot of effort to look so perfect. Even AS SHE WAS LEAVING and I walked up to her and said my hair felt a little loose and could she check it, she smiled and put in more bobby pins and you know what? That style lasted all night, through dancing. I don't write a lot of reviews, but I was so incredibly impressed with Dee's composure, I can not recommend her enough for weddings. read more

After searching around and trying a few different salons in Portland itself, I am so glad I ventured just a few minutes away and went to Bei Capelli and Samantha! Samantha is a level 1 stylist but gave me a fantastic haircut - for only $32! I'm used to paying $60 prices for an equivalent cut in Portland so this was a wonderful surprise. Samantha was so upbeat and sweet and extremely easy to get along with. The salon itself is clean, stylish, and designed with fun modern accents. The absolute best part? The quiet shampoo room...I could feel all the tension from the week melting away. I'm thrilled to have found my new stylist and this wonderful salon! read more

Renee styled my hair for my wedding. She was fantastic to work with, can't recommend her enough. She was incredibly flexible, listened to all of my input and didn't stop working until it was perfect. My hair was just what I wanted and the curls really stayed all day, which was so impressive. She also cut my now-husband's hair just before the big day and it looked amazing. They are great! They're so friendly, and do a great job with the haircut, at an excellent price. I had Jaelynn, and she was so friendly, and cut my hair exactly as I wanted it. She offered suggestions for changes that might look good in the future, but stuck to the simple trim that I requested for the time being. The hair washing room is awesome. My warm colored hair was made ash... total lack of highlights. Layered cut poorly done, no shaping, straight across. Some of my closest friends were shocked to hear I color my hair. Any of the staff are great though. They do not push products on you, but have good suggestions about styling products or tips. I am a 39yr old professional woman. I have had straight long hair for the last 19 years. Sure I had it cut shoulder length, or had layers put in etc... for little pick me ups but nothing that ever made me feel "polished" or "stylish". I was referred to Bei Capelli about a year ago. Each time I went I felt spoiled! From the head massage in the Lather Room to the conversations that everyone that worked there seemed to be open to. Melissa has gotten to know me during that time, she knows my family life, my work, my inner self etc.... from my visits. About a month ago I was on my way to my appointment with Melissa when I thought, you know what? I'm just going to let her do whatever she wants. I told this to Melissa. She wanted to be absolutely sure and asked me many questions. I assured her that I was ready! She printed off a picture of what she thought would look good on me, and I nodded for her to go for it! She cut off probably close to 12inches. I've never had my hair that short since the Dorothy Hamel cut was in style! She put this product in my hair that made my naturally fine straight hair do things I NEVER thought it could do! She took before and after pics for me to see the difference. I felt like a new woman!! I'm telling you a NEW WOMAN!! I've had great haircuts in the past but she cut my hair in such a fashion that I hardly have to do anything at all, the hair styles itself!! The product It's Oribe dry shampoo. (think that is what it's called) I have never used "product" other than hairspray. Product has always weighed my hair down and made it look greasy. I also am a woman that has always had to wash her hair everyday or I'd look like an oil slick on day 2. This product makes my hair look even better the next day! I am in love with this product (can you tell?) I carry some in my car, I've given some as gifts, if you have fine straight healthy hair, try this product it will change you! Really hate to have to give this place a bad review but felt it may save someone from spending a lot of money their and wishing they hadn't like me. I will say it is a nice looking salon, with a good concept, and decor...they could really use a new room to do eyebrows in though. Not private at all and it feels very thrown together. Like the room they usually do it in is occupied so they just made a makeshift spot for it. I went here last week for a cut and color. I wanted something that should have been very simple. My hair was medium brown going in. I wanted a darker chocolate brown all over, with some highlights throughout just to break up the dark a bit and give the color dimension. For my cut I wanted long layers to get some sort of body. What I got was just an all over medium dark brown and no sign of the highlights. I really feel as though I could have gone and gotten what I had done here out of a box, done it myself at home, and saved $200!! No dimension in my hair at all and you can barely even tell I had anything done to it. The cut is even worse. It is a blunt straight across cut that makes my hair look so thick and awful. Even though when I was there I told her I did not want it like that at the ends...on top of this all I felt as though she was rushing my appointment and I felt as though she had somewhere to be and I was a bother. Not what I want to feel when I finally after a year get a babysitter and get some me time. Not really what I had in mind for a nice relaxing day at all. I thought when I was there after it was all done that maybe I just didn't like the way she styled it and decided to leave and give my new cut and color a chance and maybe with some different styling I would feel better about it....I have tried for this whole week, and I hate it!!! The only thing I have been doing with it is getting so frustrated and mad that it is nothing like I wanted an throwing a hat on just to get out the door. I'm sorry not sure about you but I didn't spend $220 (including tip) to have to throw a hat on to hide it. I would go back but honestly I don't want them touching my hair again. So now onto another $200 hair appointment to go try and get it right. Very very upset and frustrated. Save your time and money and take it to another salon. read more

I'm from out of town and tried this place based on reviews. I am so happy I tried, I literally don't have one complaint. I called about 1 week in advance to get a Saturday morning appointment for a color and cut. I was scheduled with Jamie, who upon confirming this was my first visit, gave me a tour of the salon (which was very beautiful, clean, and well organized). Jamie did a consultation with me on what I was looking for, and gave me some advice based upon what I had told her. She then started he coloring, and when that had set I was brought to the shampoo room where it was dimly lit and very relaxing, I loved that they did a full shampoo and condition, and also a lovely massage. It was fantastic. They then cut my hair, blew it out, and styled it. Jamie noticed that some of the color didn't take as deeply as she had liked, and right away put in more foils until the color was perfect. She was amazing! Everyone here was extremely welcoming, very friendly, and constantly checking in to make sure I was comfortable. Will travel the extra way for this awesome customer service. Try them!!!!!! read more

I was introduced to Bei Capelli when a friend asked me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding. We went for a dry run of hair / makeup, where the complete professionalism of the staff immediately put me at ease; I became excited to be made into a more put-together version of myself. Everyone was so friendly and accepting of my style, my preferences, and were fun and supportive while they did an amazing job painting my nails and putting on my makeup. If I lived locally, I think I'd be making excuses to go in and spend time with the super-competent staff and drink the cucumber water. Special kudos to Carole who did my nails, and Renee who did my makeup! Since my hair is extremely short, I didn't need it styled, but both the maid of honor and the bride's hair styles were absolutely stunning. Cannot recommend them enough. read more

I just got my haircut yesterday at Bei Capelli, by Deirdre. I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS HAIRCUT. I had super long hair, and was looking to cut it off and donate it to Locks of Love. We ended up cutting off two ponytails of 17 inches! As soon as we cut the ponytails off, she led me into the shampoo room. LOVELY. There is relaxing music playing, the lights are dimmed, and you get a head massage! Afterwards. she got to cutting right away. I have honestly never gotten such an amazing haircut, ever! The cut I got was even better then what I pictured! Plus, I am pretty shy, but I had no problem talking with her! She was funny, nice, and just an upbeat person. I will definitely go to this salon and request to have her the next time I need a haircut! I would recommend it to anyone! The prices are good, and you get beyond what you pay for! read more

I used Bei Capelli last year to get my hair done for my wedding. I had a good experience working with Lisa, the coordinator. I communicated with her mostly by email, and she was very responsive. Lisa was also helpful in figuring out the time I should come to the salon (I didn't want someone coming to the venue). My stylist was Samantha, and she was easy to work with. I had a trial a few months before the wedding, made some tweaks, and was very happy with the wedding day results. It cost me around $130 (hair only, no makeup), which I paid the day of the trial.
