    Studio sign at second floor

I like everything about BeHot Yoga Toronto (formerly Bikram Yoga Centre) from the overall friendly, sense of community atmosphere, to the way teachers instruct, and the location itself. Easily accessible, tucked away downtown on Colborne Street in a great neighbourhood (St. Lawrence). The studio in general feels warm and is very clean. It is popular with women and men of all ages, shapes/sizes, and skill levels; there are many regular practitioners (who may want to keep it a secret). New students are always welcomed into the environment. The practice room is a sizeable room that is more long and narrow. It's clean and doesn't smell. Floor is a smooth, laminate type surface. Fits about 4 rows of mats. In a busy class it's normal to have 40-50 people. Markers on the floor should be followed for mat placement, as the class WILL fill up. When you practice regularly, you learn to get over a lot of things including the tight fit of people. It can make for good energy, so there is an upside. I have never felt too impeded (other than for full locust/"airplane") or that my practice did not flow. Everyone spreads out in a less populated class. The heat and humidity are consistent and the more bodies in the room, the hotter it gets. The fan is turned on at regular intervals. I always go well hydrated and never underestimate the need to be and to bring enough water. Again, it does not smell bad in the room unless you end up near someone with bad BO or other issues. People are generally pretty good with hygiene and not wearing strong scents. As for instruction, there is not so much constant "drill sergeant" delivery that Bikram Yoga is known for. To me it's the right amount of firmness with positive encouragement and usually some levity thrown in. All are encouraged to do their best and take breaks when necessary. Teachers are proficient and follow the standard "dialogue" but often will provide additional guidance and sometimes even brief philosophy (and occasionally at the end of some of his classes, Paul will sing--it's nice). The additional information is beneficial and can be insightful. When you are really listening and focusing you can truly be in a meditative state; just being in the postures, improving them and your overall well-being. Hands-on adjustments don't normally happen but occasionally they do here. Teachers are consistently helpful to everyone. You are still more likely to be verbally guided to make the adjustments yourself and that is why listening is strongly emphasized (we all hear but listening is a skill). All in all this is a great studio with a positive vibe from the people to the location. Whether you are new or have an established practice, if you have access, go! Other: You can rent a mat and towels for a couple of dollars each and purchase water & coconut water. Sign-in is by scanning a card that you are given when you join. Shoe racks & a coat closet inside the entrance. Down the hallway are the change rooms for men (first) and women (far end). No full size lockers but there are small phone/wallet lockers (no fee) in the hallway. For the women's change room you have to go through the yoga mat cleaning and drying racks area. It doesn't smell bad as it gets cleaned and aired out. The floor gets wet between classes because of the mats, which is a challenge for any studio in my experience. The women's change room is bright and clean. Given the space limitations (historical building) it's not a bad size. It can feel cramped but there is enough room to change and people are mostly courteous. There are: many cubbies & hooks, some benches; 3 sinks (one for the water filter); 2 toilet stalls; & 3 separate showers with good water pressure & liquid soap. There can be a long line up for the showers but most people respect the shower quickly decorum. See website http://behotyogatoronto.com/ & http://instagram.com/behotyogatoronto, FB. Additional info., intended to be helpful: If you're new to this type of yoga, read the FAQ, etiquette & elsewhere on the Web. Etiquette: be on time in the practice room, class starts promptly. Silence in the practice room & quiet when placing your mat etc. Postures: accessible to everyone; it's not about being flexible. Follow the cues, do your best. Heat: it will take time to adapt. Do what you can do on any given day. Hydration: advice is 2 L during the day. Bring at least a 1 L into the room. Eating: allow 3 hrs between a meal & class. Guaranteed discomfort with a full stomach. Clothing: don't wear cotton as it acts like a weight; long pants not recommended. Here women wear bra top or tank top with shorts or crops; men generally go shirtless & wear longer shorts (nothing on display, please). Try at least 4-5 classes taken not too far apart and try different instructors (they are all great at BYT) before deciding if it's for you or not. Eventually you will start experiencing the MANY benefits, which can be different for everyone but are all great!!

Lovely studio. Very welcoming. Flow was not incredibly challenging but I still got a lot out of it.

The class itself was ok, I prefer a different style of teaching but it is only personal preference. Good props, little scented eye pillows and round mats. Being that it is the Ritz, the check in staff and spa staff were incredible. After class the girls and I used the pool and hottub for an hour or so without interruption. Nice treat! (extra star for this for sure) If I lived at the Ritz (dreams !!) or was visiting, or worked here even I would definitely be a regular. The one teacher Alex, I have heard is really good.

This is the first studio I've been to that supplies round yoga mats for student use. I really liked…read morethese because they ensure adequate personal space for poses and they also make it easier to adjust your stance without going off the mat. I took the Hatha class with Reena on Friday afternoon; it was very relaxed and I loved that the maximum number of students for this studio is only around 6 people! The natural light and spa location make this tranquil setting ideal for unwinding at the end of a long day. Even though I was not a guest of the hotel, the staff here personally escorted me to the location to ensure I wouldn't get lost (the spa location is a bit tricky to find). Overall I found the class to be pretty straightforward and Reena provided several adjustments throughout the class. This studio also has props for student use. If you're in the area I'd definitely recommend this class if you can make it several times a week; anything less gets very pricey though. The change rooms and washrooms are very luxurious - there are private lockers and plenty of space. I'm not sure if Passport to Prana members can use the gym facilities, but take advantage of that if you can. The entire gym and spa area is gorgeous! My only regret here is that I didn't take photos. There were only 2 other people participating in the class so it was hard to sneak a few ;-)

The classes are hard imo because the instructors were demonstrating some challenging poses that I've never seen before in other yoga classes I've tried. There were definitely people struggling in class. The prices are pretty steep coming close to $40 if you're just buying one class.. I would love to be a regular because these classes are definitely a workout and it is located conveniently near me but I wish I didn't have to break the bank lol

The Manifest studio is massive, and didn't have a mirror - which I prefer! It also has a beautiful view of the ROM. The high domed ceiling is a gentler experience to the more common exposed concrete and wires you see in many spaces nowadays. The reduced heat class had the right amount of heat - hot enough I was sweating, but not so much I was slipping off the mat, or felt overheated. That will of course depend if you are doing a power vinyasa flow or more static class. I did Queenie's class, which I enjoyed, but I have done her class many times before at other studios. Cymetree seems to be choosing from the Yogatree teachers (which the owners also operate) whom are always professional. You might just need to find a teacher and class that matches your vibe. The locker room has new digital locks. It also has a nice natural lotion, which is necessary for me after a hot yoga class. The front desk staff were lovely. My only suggestion would be to put a bench where the shoes are, since I can sometimes barely stand after a hot yoga class. Will be back soon!

Here for a revisit using my Passport to Prana 2010…read more Yes the restorative class is still as good as I remembered!! This is really the only classes I ever took in any of the studios that use essential oils and give us a armotherapeutic experience! I know some people are sensitive to smell! However, for the rest, this is the best restorative yoga that one can get! Wish I can do this every night!

Feeling very urban and brave for having slept at my boyfriend's condo in Toronto's West End, I…read morechose this morning to venture further out of my comfort level and actually tried a different yoga studio. Now, there is a marked difference between the people living in midtown Toronto (myself not included since I am a Winnipeg girl at heart) and those living in the West End; that is, the denizens of midtown make lots of money, prance around in designer clothing and flashy sports-cars and probably live outside their means, whereas West-enders have recently begun to earn money, walk around looking like paupers, and probably live beneath their means. Now what does this have to do with yoga? Well being from the midtown, I was afraid the West End Yogis would smell the stink of St. Clair on me and resent my presence. But Yoga Space is a relaxing environment, with friendly staff and a very yogi clientele. Everyone is welcoming, or at least leaves you alone. For the most part, the instructors are good, but the classes are often taught by students since it is a yoga school as well. The best part about Yoga Space though are the calming efforts the teachers make to relax you into your final pose -- Savasana -. Each end to the class is different, anything from bean-bags on your eyes to a foot rub to a eucalyptus scented blanket is used to let you close your practise in complete comfort. Yogi or not, one thing is certain, no Good Life gym under the Sun would offer you that kind of treatment at the end of a workout.
