The class with ghazal tahari was ok. It felt like humid yoga as opposed to hot. The studio wasn't hot enough. I've done hot yoga before and I'm usually sweating at the end of the class. And at this studio, I didn't break a sweat. The instructor was giving too many instructions. It was hard to keep up with her. She didn't hold the poses for long either. She did give breaks to sip water which was nice. Be careful that not all lockers in the restroom lock properly. The herbal tea is a nice touch. In the class pass instructions and the email yoga tree sends, it isn't mentioned that borrowing a mat is $2. So be aware of that too prior going to class here. I'll skip this spot. read more

I come here regularly for various yoga classes, such as vinyasa flow, hot yoga, etc. I recommend bringing your own yoga mat otherwise they charge you $3 for rental. The staff are always friendly and they provide complimentary water and tea and a comfortable seating area if you want to lounge before or after your classes. The change room is also clean. I believe they have two rooms at this location. One for hot yoga and one for regular. The instructors are also very good. I've had no issues with booking online through the website as well as adjusting my membership status and taking advantage of their promotions. If you have any questions or get confused, I highly recommend that you call the studio or ask it in person. read more

I have been using ClassPass credits at this studio for awhile now. I used to attend several times a week, sometimes 2-3 classes a day. I went to the studio just a few minutes before the start of class to explain I had to miss the actual class (due to extenuating circumstances). I stayed at the studio for the duration of the class to show my attendance but the front staff refused to sign me in as they said it was against their policy because I was not physically participating in the class. I even offered to do the class in the hallway! After a couple of email exchanges with their manager, the ClassPass policy was used to enforce their practices. I was charged a penalty for being a no-show. The manager offered me a free pass. No thank you. I was appalled by how my unique situation was handled. Truly poor client relations. I have never called in a late cancel. I have never been a no show. I was actually quite offended to be penalized for something that was equated to these common restrictions. I did not call in late. I was not a no show. I was physically present in the studio but they still denied my efforts of showing up in person but not be able to participate in the class. What kind of community is this? Zero leniency? Zero empathy? Keep in mind I have nothing but good things to say about the instructors. Unfortunately, the front desk staff and management are inflexible and show no compassion for their students. Awful treatment in general. Your overall commitment to this studio is not valued. I've been to this location several times now and had a great experience each times. The studio is located on the second floor at the corner of Richmond and Spadina. It's is bright, nice and clean. The change room has lockers with build-in locks and showers. There are two practice rooms (one heated and one not). They are both spacious with large windows. Staff are friendly and the teachers are great. They offer a variety of classes (Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin, Ashtanga, Power Flow, L1, L2...) which is great if you want to switch up your classes a bit or work on progressing your practice. I do hope they will introduce some pilates classes in the future as I haven't seen it on the schedule yet. Love the place! read more

I don't write bad reviews often but this one really deserves it sadly. As someone who's been attending classes at yoga tree for 5+ years, I'm really appalled by customer service at this location. Just as I am walking into the yoga room, someone chases me down, saying I did not have anymore classes on my pass... when I had at least 5 left. Turned out they expired two days prior. With no email notification saying they expire. They demanded I pay before walking into class, making me late into class. Usually the studio allows payment after class. Regardless, I've paid. The manager then told me I had to pay to get my 5 classes back. It's really upsetting that someone who's been continuously attending classes with yoga tree, there is zero leeway to use up your remainder passes which had expired couple days prior. Unfortunately, due to the lack of customer service, I will no longer be supporting this studio or attending their classes. For anyone buying class passes, word of caution, make sure you check frequently when they expire because the manager will not care about you and take your money and not let you use them after expiration date. These zero empathy or care. As someone who also has taught yoga at studios and has attended plenty other studios, I have never had such an issue as with this studio. Having past this yoga studio several times on spadina, I have decided to buy the monthly pass and give this place a shot. I have been an yoga fanatic for years and there hasn't been one studio that has the calming vibes like yoga tree. The atmosphere is friendly and very relaxing. The change rooms and studio is very clean which is my main concern. No one wants to go into a yoga studio smelling like sweat and feet. The instructors are very friendly and energetic. I really like how they don't call on you when your pose is not exactly how everyone else is. I like the privacy and respect that they give to all levels of yoga enthusiasts. The lockers are really great! The other yoga studios I've been to in toronto requires you to bring your own lock. Which is not an issue at yoga tree. I find that yoga tree is very modern and the atmosphere is very hip and that's exactly people in downtown needs. I have been to several classes here and never had a bad experience. If you're looking for a yoga studio that's more interactive, then you might want to go to another place. I find most classes here are pretty packed with people. Everyone comes for the yoga sessions and just leave. There's not too much socialization here. Overall 10/10 for my experience at yoga tree on Spadina. read more

I tried at least 4 different instructors at YogaTree didn't find there was much "instruction" at all, instead, I'd say the classes are "facilitated" by instructors calling out different poses. For example, I attended a beginner level class where the instructor had the class do a complicated one foot, twisting, balancing pose (not level 1!). It would have been fine if she broke the pose down into steps so I could at least attempt a modified version of the pose, but I literally stood there, clueless, and the instructor didn't even make a gesture of instruction in my direction. Did I mention that there were only 4 other people in the class, and one person was in child's pose at the time. It was awkward. Other reviewers have commented on the nice space, great change rooms, friendly staff...but if you are looking to develop a yoga practice through learning how to correctly do the postures, you might need to look elsewhere. read more

I am completely shocked - I was five minutes late because of unexpected traffic due to a marathon (takes me 30 minutes to get there), and arrived at the studio for 8:35 and they would not let me in the class. Very nice, clean and bright reception area, with lots of chairs and space for shoes. receptionist was nice but not too friendly, could have helped me more in details but looked like she wants me to understand it all by myself. Went for my first class here - Hot Yoga L1-2 on Tuesday. The heat was not that bad and also the room was not that crowded at noon (they say evenings are usually really busy so I never tried it but I experienced lunch time classes beeing crowded). Teacher (Diane) was also very nice but could have paid attention to everyone little more (if the posture is not right). I am not a beginner but this class was little too fast and challanging. I am a huge fan of Reduced Hear (Level 1) class with Melissa, or Hot Yoga (Lever 1) with Kim H. Reduced Heat class (+ 28 C) is supposed to be less heated than regular Hot Yoga class but I found it to be almost the same. The changing rooms are pretty nice and clean, there are lockers with a code that can be used for no extra charge. Washrooms (inside the changing rooms) look little weird but not bad. They also have yummy hot tea to enjoy before or after class. The price is $160/month but there is special for $40/month (first time clients). Towel rent $2 and mat rent - $2, so bring your own! read more

Came to toronto to visit family and was in dire need for a yoga class. Took a class at 1030am and it was a level 1 class. 1) Studio is nice and clean. Loved the windows and open space. Lockers are cool where you put your own combination. I'd give that a plus! But the bathroom space is tiny. If the class was crowded I believe it would be a nightmare, thank god I came during a low census time. 2) Price is pretty standard for most yoga studios, but instead of saying its 17 dollars or so on their website, they should just make it a flat 20 dollar for a drop in class since it pretty much came out to 20 dollars for a drop in with taxes. Simple and not surprising to guest. 3) Teacher was decent. i took a level one class since that's all I had time for and it was a good enough class for a beginner. Overall it wasn't a bad studio. I'd have to take a few more classes to give it a full comprehensive rating, but I'd definitely come back to give it a try. read more

Finally got the chance to attend the Ashtanga L2 class with my friend. It was taught by Jonny. The class was 75 mins so it's not the full primary sequence but we enjoyed it anyways as we were sweating so much from the physical practice. Best way to build strength & flexibility imho. Jonny was excellent with his cues and helped everyone around the room. I had no idea I had been gripping the half bound or lotus poses incorrectly w/ my hand (Ardha Badha Padmottanasana, Badha Padmasana, etc.) and he came by to tell me. Strong grip he said. Love the space here. It gives me ideas for my future craft room. All white, mod and pretty! After being at all the Yoga Tree locations, I think RS has the best inventory for yoga mats...or because there were so many in my favourite colours :D There is also a tea station, as well as fresh water, water w/ cucumber. Very clean facility. Advisors at the front are very friendly also (Pam & Kara). Will definitely be back for classes. They offer $10 economy classes every Friday Hot Yoga & Vinyasa Flow. read more

I came back to review and rave about Jason's Reduced Heat L1-2 yoga class, turns out my previous review already did that. I strongly believe that Jason's method of instruction is an example all instructors should follow. He spends the entire class walking around and making adjustments. Nothing passes his eye. I mean, isn't it one of the main reasons you're paying someone to instruct so that they could potentially correct you? What I also love is that he gives you a lot of things to think about during the poses. Makes it interesting and keeps the same old poses from being dull. The class itself was great. The usual poses were varied by different ways of getting into it, and I was introduced to some non-yoga poses/stretches that really helped release the upper body. I like that he combines yoga and other methods to stretch. As usual, the YogaTree studio is clean and nice. I love the lockers and showers and it feels very comfortable. Easy check-in and out via swipe, and you can sign up for classes online. The only thing is parking is difficult and expensive ($2.50 on the streets if you can find it). But aside from a few instructors, it's hit or miss when it comes to class quality, at least from my experience. And the good ones are evident by the full classes. I do recommend this studio and classes for those wanting something a little different than regular moksha etc. read more

Beautiful, spacious, clean, shiny. I was really impressed when I arrived and was having a hard time keeping my jaw from dropping too much. I took a "Hot Yoga Level 2" class with a substitute teacher. The studio wasn't really hot - let's say, warm - and nobody really cleaned it before the class started. I considered it EEEEW. I had the worst class, in the sense of "most boring", I've ever seen in my life. Class was not really intense or difficult, was just repetitive. BORING. I am willing to try Yogatree again, but something completely different, because the studio is so beautiful, but I won't ever try Warm Yoga Level Boring again. read more

I got banned from YogaTree studio for not wearing a mask in completely empty studio w/o any notice. I was a YT member since 2016. Now as they re-opened in-studio classes I start practicing again, it was my second visit, I was on my way out, it was only me and receptionist at front desk behind glass wall, she asked me to put the mask on, it would take it longer to put it on, so I just left. Few days later I got this email from studio manager Pamela: "Unfortunately, since you are unable to abide by Ontario's mask mandate we have refunded you your package and you will not be able to practice at any Yoga Tree location. A refund of $345.50 has been processed, please allow 2-4 business days for processing. The classes attended on Sept. 3rd and 5th have been reconciled as individual drop-ins." Notice how they charged me for individual drop-ins classes. Terminating loyal paying client and ripping him off at the same time, that's the next level of customer service. read more

The best thing about YogaTree is the change rooms - I give them 5 stars on that. They have lockers that you can pre-program - a feature I've only seen in fancy spas. It makes it really convenient to store your valuables without worrying about them. They also have 4 showers, which can still get crowded, but it does make it possible to take a shower after hot yoga without waiting a long time. They also have a nice waiting area with couches and complimentary tea. As for the class itself, I've only taken one so far and it was OK. Not the best but not the worse either, but I didn't see much to differentiate it from others I've been to. The studio was spacious and clean. Overall, a decent yoga spot downtown, but I didn't find the classes particularly motivating. read more

I was going to the Yoga Tree studio in Richmond Hill for a month and was impressed with their excellent instuctors and the facilities there and was excited to hear that they opened their newest 3rd location in Downtown TO. I was even stoked that Groupon had a special offer which I quickly took advantage of. The downtown studio is very nice, situated at the corner of Spadina and Richmond, very central and close to everything. The place is new, clean and modern. The reception area has a nice sitting area with a great view of the vibrant intersection and offered hot herbal tea. A great place to hang out before or after your class. Even the hallway leading to the two yoga studios had benches to sit down and a nice revolving gallery of local artists. The change/shower room is nicely designed, great lockers where you set your own combo which makes it effortless and easy. Being a beginner to yoga, having going for a couple months, I really appreciated the level 1 hot yoga. The instructor was easy to follow and was cautious and aware of everyone's ability. You could make it as leisurely or hard as your please. The only thing I could wish was more evening classes. Yoga Tree offers a new member's unlimited month special which I highly suggest to try out. Downside is that these guys are really good at hiring rude staff with bad attitude problems. Yogatree downtown is such a fabulous studio!! It's located in a great spot, just south of Queen on Spadina. They have tons of classes at convenient times, which is great. I've only ever done their hot classes, but I've never been disappointing. The studio itself is lovely. It's the only studio I've ever been to that has lockers. It's WONDERFUL! you can set the combo for the lock the day of, so no need to remember to bring a lock. It's great if you're coming from work or school and have a laptop or other valuables.. They also always have a pot of tea and lemon water, which I think is a really lovely touch. One thing I love is the homey sitting area... It makes the studio feel a lot warmer and it's a nice touch as you can sit and have a cup of tea with a friend after class! The yoga studio has a full wall of mirrors, which I love and another wall of windows, which sometimes makes it a bit noisy as it faces a busy street. All in all this studio is a gem in the heart of downtown! I love love love it... also check out their midtown location! equally wonderful! read more

I visited this studio for the first time tonight and was shocked by how rude the reception staff were. Not welcoming or accommodating at all. I was pretty much ignored at first and then I had to wait for quite a while to finally be addressed. At every other yoga studio I have visited in Toronto I have been greeted with a warm welcome and a smile and first time visits are either free or a reduced price. This first time fee was $20 + tax and the girl that was dealing with me gave me such a snobby and rude attitude and made me wait for so long that I just ended up leaving and going to my regular studio. Too bad because I heard there are a bunch of awesome instructors here that I wanted to check out. I just have such a bad taste in my mouth after that experience. this studio to me is a business that doesn't care about its clientele. my experience with them went from being unimpressed but whatever to holy shit i will never bring my business here again. i bought a 30 day introductory package for $40 to try out the studio. within a couple of months, before i'd had a chance to activate it, i received an email from their Director of Operations saying they were making changes to their intro package and if i didn't activate in the next month, it would be downgraded to a 2-week unlimited pass. which already is ridiculous to me, if a person paid for a month, you can change your policies moving forward but you honour those packages that were already paid for on the understanding that it was for a month - that transaction is complete. But it wasn't worth my time kicking up a stink so i activated in time to use the full 30 days. I went to a class at their spadina and richmond location. it is a beautiful facility, however the mat I paid $2 to borrow was so garbage that i couldn't even do a downdog without my hands sliding all the way down the mat. the instructor was just naming off what moves to flow through verbally without demonstrating or spotting anyone for good form. when the class was over i asked the desk staff if all their mats were like this and they said they were a bit slippy and this was a known issue but that i should bring a towel to lay down on it. (because i didn't want to carry my mat here but i'm happy to stuff a towel in my briefcase and still pay $2 to borrow equipment). Last straw was that today i went in to take a class that i preregistered for online. there was traffic and i arrived 2 minutes after the class start time and the desk staff notified me that i would not be able to attend. i said i was preregistered and that i was only 2 min late and already changed and ready and they said "that class is closed now". in reviewing the welcome package i received from them electronically when i made the purchase, they do not cite any policies stating that you can't attend a class if you are two minutes late. all it said is "Do arrive early. getting to class about 10 minutes early can help you settle in and align your attitude with the purpose of the class" it strikes me as nothing shy of ironic that yoga is about self care and compassion for yourself and others and this business is set up to be stressful, unwelcoming and unforgiving. Yoga tree is so easy to get to, and the teachers are very easy to learn from. Their voices project easily and they are super friendly!!

I do love Yoga Tree but there are a few things that I feel they can really improve on. For one, the mat cleaner bottles in the room are ALWAYS empty. I know it shouldn't bother me, but it does. Petty, but hey! I'm a paying customer who deserves the serves it offers, right? I wish they would include some mediation or speak to the class with some humanity, something we can relate to instead of just getting right into poses and such. There are a few instructors that do this, but most of them don't. One final thing that bugs me is that the front reception staff are not the nicest. They don't really say hello or goodbye, with the exception of a couple people. I don't feel very welcomed there. Sometimes in the morning, one of the instructors is hurrying time to take a shower, I guess because she has a class or something in the morning? I don't like that though. Get someone else who can spare a half hour after the class to close up. BUUUT otherwise, I'm pretty happy with Yoga Tree. I went to this yoga studio for the convenient location quite a few times trying to convince myself that the cleanliness was certainly JUST a mishap. It's not. They do not even sweep, let alone mop, between classes and for anyone who does heated yoga or hot yoga classes you can take in how gross that is. One of the times I was there I did a regular yoga class (no heat) and ensured I looked up the times before that the class before me was also not a hot yoga class. Unfortunately, due to the fact that they do NOT sweep in between classes I laid my mat down and during one of the stretches placed my hand in a ball of hair... someone else's hair that was in a small clump on the floor next to my mat. During a heated practice, to even place my mat down I had to navigate what was basically a mine field of other people's sweat from the previous classes. Bought the $40 for one month trial and so far I have been unimpressed. I agree with some of the reviews already posted here - it feels more like it's trying very hard to be a hip studio (think yorkville hair salon) rather than actually being a quality studio. Too much focus on image right from the get go was the impression I got from the atmosphere and from my interaction with the reception desk. The first class I went to was just okay, I did not get the sense that the instructor had that much experience, but it wasn't too bad. The second class I went to was a restorative class on a Wednesday night and was absolutely the WORST yoga class I have EVER been to. We basically did a variation of the same pose for the entire 75 mins. Aweful!!! And not to mention it was absolutely packed! There was barely any space for my mat by the time I got there. I felt like i was in a yoga factory. The entire class was straight up in the dark - no candles or low-level lighting - I'm talking lights off in the dark. It just felt really off. I booked a class online and was really confused about the cancellation policy when I needed to reschedule. The only commentary I could find on the website was that cancellation must be done 5 days in advance. Other studios allow cancellation up to 1-2 hours before the class, so I was sort of surprised about the 5-day thing. If that's really the case then it's not a very flexible setup. Change rooms are very small and it was very crowded. It's nice that they have showers for sure so I'll give them that. I think it's sort of gross that the bathroom stalls are right in the middle of the changeroom. Not a lot of privacy and it just sort of creeped me out. I don't do hot yoga so I can't comment on their hot classes, but I doubt I will go back at all even though I have the unlimited pass for another few weeks. I don't think I want to risk another bomb of a class like the last one - a real waste of time. Mat rental is $2 and they also make you use a towel on top of your mat, which if you don't bring your own is another $2. Overall, I think this studio has a lot of potential, but the atmosphere and attitude are not at all what I am looking for out of my yoga practice. The studio spaces are a pretty good size and the space and amenities are very new which is also really nice. I think the quality of the instruction needs to be improved and they can really tone down the commercial feeling to make it more of a down-to-earth atmosphere. I would not pay $20 per class to practice here on a regular basis. My vote is to move on and try someplace else. read more

Did the into package here, and truly enjoyed my time there enough to get another one month unlimited membership. Yogatree is great since your membership is able to be used at other studios which is great! Most of the staff are friendly and welcoming and the facility is always clean. Plus I love the teas they provide. My only complaint is that they have a high amount of heated classes in contrast to everything else, but it makes sense since it seems to be the ones in most demand. Also I feel most classes are geared towards beginners, but I love that most instructors give the option to increase difficulty level. read more

The combination of attention to both mind and body by several of the teachers makes the yoga practice more fulfilling -- I particularly recommend Ali for this, she always brings something interesting to the Hatha and Yin sessions with her words and experiences. She also is good about dealing with multiple skill levels in the same class by offering more challenging alternatives in many poses, and does adjustments when necessary or when someone is struggling with a pose. Joanna's Hatha sessions are also good, and I like the light aromatherapy that she provides during the final shavasana. I recommend Stephanie's beginner's yoga and restorative yoga on the weekends. Although I'm (a bit) above a beginner level, these are great stretch sessions suitable for any level, and I always feel invigorated by her positive and caring attitude. I have tried out classes with a few other teachers whose style doesn't work for me, and I just don't go to their classes any more, there are plenty of options. The facilities are very nice and clean, lockers with settable combinations, showers (which I haven't used, since I live nearby), a bright sitting area with tea available, and two studio spaces. There is a strong focus on heated yoga, which I am not currently doing, but there are plenty of non-heated classes available as well. I have a monthly pass which gives me a great opportunity to try out classes and find the classes and teachers that fit my needs. The online booking site and the app are great, I use them to book all of my classes, although there is a minor glitch with not being able to book for a few days before my monthly renewal occurs. Update: have to drop one star because their online experience has gone downhill. The iPhone app, which I used to use for booking and viewing my upcoming classes, no longer works properly on iOS7: you can't login so can't book or view your calendar. They don't respond to Facebook messages and don't have an email address on their website. Yes, I could phone, but I really liked the online experience and this failure to fix the app in spite of several requests is disappointing. read more

I got 1 month unlimited for $45... and went 3 times. $45 is a good deal, but it;s for new customers only. I wasn't able to work out for a few weeks so couldn't make the most of the month. I also had a deal site voucher, but it was only valid for 3 months and I couldn't get to the place before it expired. I asked if I could somehow still use it (I was only 2 weeks past expiry) and they said no. Ok, fine... but c'mon.. 3 months to use it? Usually it's 6-12 months. The Staff at Yoga Tree completely ruin the very reason one practices Yoga. They are obnoxious and do not make guests feel welcome. They have an arrogant attitude and are not welcoming. They sit there and appear annoyed when guests interact with them. Their negative energy has no place in my opinion in a Yoga studios where one wants to be happy and experience good energy. The crowd that attends is also odd, it's hard to explain but same type of deal where there is no sense of community. As a beginner to yoga I have found Yoga Tree downtown to be a great place to start and maintain my practice. I love the convience of being able to book my classes on online or on their iphone app. The staff is friendly and helpful, Diana the manager always remembers my name. The instructors are warm and bring something different to each class. I have a major yoga crush on Ali, she's a brilliant communicator, magnetic and wise and after each class I feel like I have learned something more in the most therapeutic way. Leigh, Stephanie and David are all great instructors too and I recommend each of them if you're new to yoga. read more

I love the spacious changing rooms and the tea area. I love the classes and that they have large windows with lots of light. The studio is very clean, there's more often than not fresh brewed tea. I've been going there for almost two years on and off. I learned to pick and choose the instructors of which there is a substantial variety. Most of them offer unique practices. Some focus on core, some on stretching, some on breathing etc If you know your way around it is a great way to suit your yoga practice to your mental and physical state. Also There are level 1, 1-2 and 2 classes. I mainly go to hot yoga and yin yoga and there is nothing I can really complain about. Except the occasional large class sizes which prevents the yogis of giving you personal attention, although some of them still find the time to correct and align your poses. The teachers are well informed and friendly. If you are a regular they make an effort to get to know you and your name so you begin to feel like part if the family. I can't recommend enough a few teachers: Jason, Diana, Rita, Aryeh, Ali and Ruby. But yoga studios are very personal so you'd have to see for your self. read more

I bought a 10 class pass a while ago and was not informed that they expire. 10 class passes expire within a year, and mine expired without any warning from yogatree staff, with 2 classes left on the pass. I think this is unfair, and feel ripped off. read more

One of the best yoga studios in Toronto. I was a member when they first opened, took a break for more than six months, tried other studios, and here i am, back at Yogatree! I love that they have made it very easy to book classes with an iPhone app (wish you could cancel classes via the app too) and you don't have to sign a yearly membership for unlimited classes (only 4 months!). Studio is new and clean; great open-space. Very nice washrooms, you don't even have to bring a lock for the lockers. Lovely lounge. Staff is friendly. Great location. read more
