This place is brilliant! So low key and a great place to hang out. Their beers, cider and coffee are perfect. I would definitely recommend this brewery to anyone. They also have games to choose from so you can hang with friends, enjoy a great beer and have a good time. I hear they do tours as well, but I haven't gone on one yet. Place is always a great spot for fun and a few brews. As a former bartender (and just a good person) in Chicago I am annoyed by Guadalupe's review, as it appears as though a worker was nice and allowed her to bring her dog in once and just didn't after, so she feels entitled and wants to ruin Begyle's Yelp rating. Maybe leave you dog home or stick to the patio? Just a thought. I guess some people need to bring their dogs places to make up for their lack of people skills. Beat it nerd! This brewery is definitely hidden but wasn't hard to find parking. I actually really liked this place. It wasn't that big and it was nice inside. There wasn't a lot of tables so luckily we got there early enough to get one before it started to get busy. My boyfriend and I tried all the beers and liked most of them! We were able to play card games and enjoy some beers with some friendly competition of speed! They also have skee ball in another room for $1. You can bring your own food in if you want. Swung by here prior to the Windy City Ribfest and I'd say it's a quaint, low-key, and enjoyable location right off the brown line. The majority of the brews present were American and Pale Ales, however they had distinct characteristics and notes to each. Served on a tray, the flights go for around $7 for 3 tastes which is not bad at all. They also serve coffee and have a little ski-ball area for kids and adults alike. The apparel and etched glassware and growlers for visible and present for sale, a nice touch that some smaller breweries don't always offer. Lastly, they offer certain amenities on certain days such as yoga, food trucks, and board games. I would definitely recommend swinging by if you're in the area. What can I say other than wow! Everyone at Begyle bent over backwards this weekend to make my surprise party for my girlfriend happen. I threw a lot at them and they were absolutely thrilled to help out. We had to sneak in food and balloons and my girlfriends father and they were game for it all. The layout of the place is fantastic with a nice sized bar room on the ground floor, then a rather enormous upstairs with ski ball, TV's and an additional tap. That's all without even mentioning their incredible selection of brews. My personal fave was Ghost Man on Third a delightful and smooth IPA but honestly they are all tasty as can be. I moved to Chicago recently and am on a mission to try ALL THE LOCAL BEER. So when my friends from Nashville were in town this past week and every other tap room in Chicago was closed on a Monday, off to Begyle we went! I'd tried their blonde before from a can and really enjoyed it, but I'd suggest hitting up the taproom if you also typically pick up your beer at Jewel. It's in a lovely area in North Center and has a nice out-of-the-way feel. No wait at all and it was nice and quiet, but again, it was a Monday and probably around 1:30pm, so not a lot of drinkers out and about. Service was very friendly. My friends and I ordered flights. Each of us got the blonde on my recommendation, plus the Boat Shoes, the Coffee Tough Guy, and the Maybe Next Summer. Boat Shoes was a tasty, fairly unremarkable kolsch. Maybe Next Summer was way too hoppy for me (friend's order), but I hate all hoppy beers and would never willingly order one, so I'm a terrible judge for that. The Coffee Tough Guy reminded me of one of my hometown favorites - Moose Drool - with a strong coffee influence. Pretty delicious. The Begyle Blonde continues to be one of my favorite Chicago beers. I'll definitely take my beer-loving friends here again! read more

An alumni group from my alma mater (Hoo Hoo Hoo Hoosiers) hosted an event here! The event itself was amazing. Easy check in process, drinking a beer while we waited for everyone to arrive. The tour itself was amazing. Being new to the city I always love learning new facts about the city. It was so cool to learn about the history of Begyle, as well as finally learning how to pronounce it correctly! :) I loved the way the tour itself was set up, the question/answer format was amazing, this way everyone in the group got the answers they wanted! Would definitely recommend coming here for a tour or just to hang out with friends. They have board games that you can play. Brewery with the feel of a local coffee shop, only a little louder and more fun. Coffee shop = You stand in line, order at the counter, and it's always busy. I was glad to see they have a Nitro Line. The beers were delicious filling and fresh. On trend flavors with some perfect rainy day stouts. Keep in mind this place gets moderately crowded... Please leave your stroller at home. First and foremost, I really enjoy Begyle's beer. Having said that, our last visit really bummed me out and slightly turned me off. I was hoping it was just a result of someone having a bad day until I read the comments a few posts below. We brought our dog, which upon entering greeted the other dogs that were there. There were a few barks exchanged (hello excitement) and then we went to order. We intended to start a tab but before even getting our card handed back, a brunette woman with tattoos seemingly came out of nowhere and said, "We have a no barking policy, please consider this your warning. If it becomes a problem, we will have to ask you to leave." I would have understood if we had been there for awhile and it was a disturbance to other patrons, but we were there for no more than a few minutes and didn't feel welcome. I definitely love Begyle. They have a great brewery. Small, but they have more room upstairs, they open the brewery itself for seating when needed, and they also have the front roll up door open in good weather. Very good beers, with an emphasis on barrel-aged beers with flavorings, and those are excellent! Not the widest variety of beers in the world, but that's okay by me. Do what you love, what you know, and what you do well. No food, but you can bring your own or they have food trucks or other vendors around. Staff is friendly enough. Not the most outgoing, but generally not bad either. Multiple games to sit and play if you like as well. Despite what another reviewer has said, I saw multiple dogs here and the staff had no problem with them. But that could be a particular staff member that was not working when I was there. I love their events for Illinois Craft Beer Week, and came 3 or 4 times this year in that week alone. Anyway, great spot, easy to get to on the Brown Line, and great beer. read more

If you told me a few years ago one of my favorite spots would be Begyle, I would have laughed and said "yeah sure, sir" and that'd be the end of that. However, once we finally made our way to the taproom, I was smitten. It took us awhile to go back, purely because of location, but we remembered how much we enjoyed it, so the trip after that didn't have as big of a gap. Nowadays...well, Begyle has started their own trivia, and I guess you could say things are starting to get serious. This is a LONG review and I don't actually get to the beer until closer to the end, but I'm not doing a dumb "tl;dr". Either you skim it on your own or you don't. I gave you that spoiler, that's plenty. On the real, the employees are pretty friendly. Some more than others, but you can stop any of them to ask a question and if they don't know the answer, they'll find out or find someone who does. They lack diversity, but most breweries do. This place is dog, and family, friendly. More so dog, though, if I'm gonna be real. As someone who is somewhat terrified of dogs (and cats and birds and frogs and snakes and rabbits and animals, in general), I love coming here because I almost always see a golden retriever, a puppy or the ultimate, A GOLDEN RETRIEVER PUPPY! Also often seen, in no particular order, are huskies, golden doodles, labradors, corgis and medium sized mixed dogs. I've seen kids here, too, but this is one of the most poppin' breweries for doggos. In fact, I met the star/face behind "(insert dog's name here) Day Out"...whose owner is a teacher and wrote a children's book about her dog's day out! Side note, if anyone knows who I'm talking about and knows the dog's name, please let me know! I wrote it down and lost it and I really want to buy the book. Speaking of which, even though you may see a lot of Cubs shirts (Cubs fan here, not hating), plaid and/or flannel and bean boots (depending on the season), their clientele have to be some of the friendliest of any brewery! We always end up talking to someone at some point while here, and more than just a "cute dog" or "oh man, so crowded". There is a real sense of community and I love it. We *almost* moved to North Center a few years back and while I absolutely love where we live, I would move to this neighborhood in a heartbeat solely for the community feel and to be able to support neighborhood businesses like Begyle. I know I haven't even gotten to the beer yet. I try not to rate breweries based on beer since it's so subjective, and to be honest, I wasn't a fan of their beer until we actually came to the brewery. They have taproom only offerings here, as well as their mainstays, but mostly, they have a good range of beers as well as a guest cider and usually another guest beer. You'd be hard pressed not to find at least one thing you like and for flight lovers, they do those. I'm not that person, but you do you and sip away on those responsible people pours! As I mentioned above, they've also done a few trivia nights (music, movies and tv, so far) and they get busy! They're making up their own trivia and while some seemed way too easy (ahem, music and tv trivia had some super obvious ones), their movie trivia was hard. Or maybe we're just really bad at movie trivia (but in my humble opinion, I am not!), but either way, we've enjoyed ourselves. In fact, we give up our regular trivia spot to come here, just because we have a good time. Speaking of which, Begyle staff, if you're reading this, maybe some sports trivia? 80's (or better yet, 80's music!) trivia? I'd come for some 90's trivia. I mean, hello to my childhood. If you just want to dedicate some trivia to "The Office", that'd be cool, too. What about craft breweries in the last 20 years trivia?? Ok, I'm just having fun with this, my point is, they can do anything and we'd most likely make our way here for it. Trivia aside, we'll show up on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, because it's just a nice spot. Begyle isn't big, so there may or may not be a place to sit (and don't be afraid to ask people at a bench if they're saving a seat or not), but you can almost always find a spot to at least rest your beer. They have skeeball in a smaller room by the bathroom, I think it's $1 to play. They even have a skeeball league! I want to laugh at some of this, but I can't, because again, I really like the dorkiness of it all. And honestly, if I was even remotely good at skeeball, I'd sign up! I'm not, but it's fun to have a go at it when we're there, at least once. BYOF, so either bring it, order it or if you're lucky enough, walk outside to a food truck. I don't know if they have one consistently on weekends, but we usually bring tacos with, because Mexicannnnns, but you've got a plethora of options for delivery, at least. Begyle is my favorite local brewery. They conduct an amazing tour on Saturdays which includes three glasses of beer and you also get to keep the glass. The brewmasters tell interesting stories about Begyle's history and about how they make their beer. I always try to bring guests here when they are visiting. My favorite is their blond ale which is also available at your local grocery and liquor stores. However, with a subscription or without one you can fill up a growler with all their beers at the brewery. They have a really casual, fun tap room as well. My wife and I come here often for events, or just to hang in the taproom. The staff is super nice and because the venue is dog friendly we bring our pup with us from time to time on nicer days where she gets nice pets and sniffs from other guests (both human and canine) and have never had an issue with anyone (of any species.) They frequently have a food truck outside which is nice because the only thing the area is lacking is good grab and go food. All this and I haven't even mentioned the beer, which is arguably the best in the city. If not the best, certainly the most underrated. Love everything about Begyle. read more

Went here on a Sunday. Second time coming to this brewery. I live nearby so it was kind of on a whim we decided to go. We're greeted warmly and informed that there's bingo going on upstairs. I hadn't known this was happening, nor had I played bingo since about 5th grade. Either way, we went and checked it out. The upstairs space is so nice I was ashamed I hadn't gone the first time. It's just a good place to hangout. Also, won a sweet sign during bingo. The prizes were great all around. Ultimately it's a great neighborhood hangout. Also, beer. They have it in wide varieties. I love everything about this brewery. So awesome. First off, the beer tastes great. I had the Begyle Blonde and I absolutely loved how smooth it goes down. Second, the vibe here is awesome. Probably one of the best and comfiest places in the city to just bring some friends over and just chill and drink the day away. Third, the hospitality. They got so many board and card games to play here! And, side note, you are welcome to bring in your dog to the brewery while you have a brew, so that's a huge plus for dog lovers. Plus, there's the merch. Lots of great clothing and decorative pieces from the brewing company to purchase, such as t-shirts, hoodies, glasses, tins and much more. On Saturdays, I believe, there are food trucks that come by to help fill that hunger, so that's always good. Best of all, cheap prices for 16oz glasses to beer. I love that they also offer the 5oz glasses for an even cheaper amount just to get a feel for a new type of brew you're curious to try. Brewery tour was great. I've been keeping my eye on the progress of Begyle's taproom for some time now....mainly because it's located just three blocks away from my apartment. So when I finally saw the tweet I'd been waiting for - the taproom is open - I headed down to taste some beers and pick up a growler for a Super Bowl party. First let me say, if you're looking for a place to chill and drink, this isn't Half Acre Taproom. You can only sample and purchase beer to go. But what you will find here is a group of friendly, knowledgeable beer aficionados happy to let you sample the brews they have available, which are always changing. Being the hop head that I am, I went straight for the Hophazardly and the Quagmire - both of which were right up my alley - especially the Hophazardly. Conveniently I was heading to a BYOB dinner after my stop so I filled one of their 32oz. bottles with Quag', and saved the Hophazardly for the Super Bowl growler. Note: they also have a freaking huge 64oz. growler that I have my eye on, even if my intended purpose for it is apartment decor. Whatever. Definitely pay these guys a visit when you're in North Center, or heading north on the brown line (conveniently located on Ravenswood right off Irving Park stop) Cheers read more

The beer at Begyle is awesome. The Garden Saison, Tough Guy (coffee beer), and the most tart cider (that looked like lemonade!) totally impressed me. There were several varieties on tap on a Saturday night, but there is also a cooler of bottled beer by the register if you'd rather take it to go and be all anti-social like that. Begyle is one of many breweries located in a not-so-obvious spot. At the dead-end of Cuyler, in a residential area, you pass several homes and then there's a brick, multi-use building. Begyle has more of a warm, welcoming feel compared to other industrial-looking breweries. Maybe it's the board games, skee-ball, or lively taproom. Inside the taproom there is lots of open seating. Saturday nights are busier, but we grabbed a table just as another couple left. You'll want a table if you go the BYOF (bring your own food!) option. If you didn't plan ahead, a food truck may swing by. Chicago Pizza Boss was present during our visit. I really like Begyle, and I'd recommend it over several craft beer breweries in the area. read more

So over the last year, I have migrated from being a wine drinker to being a fine beer drinker and especially so with the increase in micro Brewers. I have been to the begyle several time, but I'll start off with the first visit. My brother was in town and we wanted to stop by half acre and just tagged the begyle on since it was nearby. After being disappointed that there was no beer garden at half acre.....it was summer after all, we went to the begyle. While this place does not have a beer garden, it is really new and nice to see it grow. They have a Saturday tour for $15 at noon that comes with a glass and two hours of samples. I have never partaken in it but have been there when they do and it looks fun. I primarily come here to get my monthly growler filled as I'm a member of their csb. I have gotten to know the crew and they are all very nice. This is a real up and coming brewery. They have a great display at the new whole foods in streeterville and even have a brew only available there. I think this place will be outgrowing their current digs at some point. They are in the process of building out a tap room which will be nice to enjoy. They cannot currently sell draft beer but offer samples, growler fills, 22 oz bottles and six packs. read more

The guys at Begyle have a ton of delicious offerings on tap, ready for growler fills and sample pours in their new tasting room. They've set up shop in a neighborhood that's quickly becoming a midwest brewing destination. They're within walking distance of several other fine establishments, like Half Acre, Metropolitan, Bad Apple, Fountainhead, and Bottles & Cans. Begyle is already a pioneer in the industry, introducing a beer-CSA growler subscription program and the "tasting room" concept, which is different from a traditional tap room. It's exciting to see a local business with novel means of selling an amazing product. I tried samples of the Neighborly dry stout, the Oh Hey porter, and the Euchred midwest IPA. All three were excellent. There were about 7-8 different varieties on tap and available to sample. The tasting room has a sleek, modern feel and there's plenty of memorabilia available for purchase. I picked up a Begyle-labeled snifter glass, which I look forward to using with a growler of their beer during the Super Bowl. read more

"It's not really a tour... it's more storytelling..." This is how Mike and Brenden, two of the owners of Begyle Brewing Company, introduced us to the tour. Both Mike and Brenden did a great job of engaging the group during the tour (or "their storytelling") of their Brewery. Our group of four arrived at 11:40am for the Saturday tour at noon to buy our $10 tickets. Arriving early turned out to be a good idea since the secret seems to be getting out about this place and there were several people arriving early to ensure they would get to join the tour. Along with the admission of $10.00 for their brewery tour, you receive a tulip shaped beer glass and three different samples of their beer. And, let it be known that by "sample" they actually mean three full 12 oz. beers to enjoy during your tour. This is a fantastic value if you ask me! I tried the three they had on tap at the time which were the blonde, a stout, and an IPA which is their best seller. All of their beer was of high quality but my personal favorite was their IPA. If you're picky about the beer you'll drink, you didn't have to try each kind and you could just stick with one or two kinds for your tasting. (But, come on, what's the fun in that?!) It may also be useful to know that the beers they had on tap for tasting during our tour were ranging in alcohol content between 5 and 7 percent alcohol (in other words, take the brown line, Uber it, or walk because you may be above the legal driving limit when leaving). After the tour, we we able to sample a few more of the beers that weren't offered during the tour and ended up buying a 32 oz. growler and a six pack to bring home (we seriously loved everything we tasted). The growler was $4.00 for the bottle which you can bring back to get refilled and the beer itself ranged from $8.00-$10.00 depending on what you choose. We will definitely be back to refill our growler when we're craving some delicious and fresh on tap craft beer! read more
